I picked this book up to dust off my crocheting skills after a long hiatus. It contains good diagrams of many basic stitches along with patterns and a glossary of frequently used terms. The explanations were concise and clear and the book contains nice color photographs of the projects so you know what they’re supposed to look like. If you’re new to crocheting or if you’re like me and it’s been awhile, this book should be on your shelf.

This is an amazing beginner crochet book. I’ve only been crocheting for about two years and have been trying to teach myself through You-tube with varying degree of success. This book has great explanations, color photos, and is understandable.

It starts with explanations of tools and supplies, going into types and sizes of hooks, yarns, and more. I learned about thicknesses of yarns, fiber content, color lots and how important these things are and what they mean. I never knew this.

She also explains what the abbreviations used in patterns mean and types of stitches and how to do them. Then there are the patterns – easy ones that you can follow to make your own projects. She includes things like granny square coaster, hat, dishcloth, pillow, afghan, and a couple other things.

Recommendation: If you’re new to the craft, or even if you’ve been trying things out for a while like me, this book belongs on your shelf. Actually, it’s good enough to be with your supplies so you can refer to it. I received this as an ebook but it is definitely on my “buy” list for the physical book.

Crochet for Beginners : A Stitch Dictionary with Step-by-Step Illustrations and 10 Easy Projects by Arica Presinal
Starts with colorful project completed, Dedication page and table of contents where important features are listed, and patterns.
Intro discusses how the author started out, very similar to mine but with knitting although I am a published crochet designer.
Book is good for all levels of crocheters. Equipment is discussed and what the features are for each one.
Hooks are displayed and also charts showing metric and US measurements. Variety of yarns are also discussed.
Other useful tools and also there is a chart of stitches and abbreviations used.
Stitches and how to make the various ones are described and shown in sketches.
Sketches are like having large print, you can see all the stitches.
Lots of excellent tips! 7 main stitches and they are shown in a finished swatch and what makes it special and when to use it.
The 7 stitches are all shown with their own attributes.
Special stitches are also explained in detail. Each of these are also shown with a finished swatch, how to work them up with sketches and written words and when to use them.
When I design I only use about 3 of the main stitches, this book opens a new world for me! Granny squares are also described and shown in detail in their own chapter.
How to read the pattern.
Each pattern starts with a title and summary of the item.
Finished measurements, gauge, material needed and instructions row by row and how to finish are included. SO many useful day to day projects, great for gift giving especially for those who cherish something made with your own hands.
Glossary is listed at the back and resources.
Index is included also, acknowledgements and about the author.
I received this review copy from The Callisto Publisher's Club and this is my honest opinion.
A KEEPER, x resource and go to book!

Skimmed this before I started a Learn to Crochet class and I like that it has lots of clear color step-by-step photos and some projects that actually seem like reasonable beginner level. Some other knit and crochet books seem to have a very different idea of “beginner.” It also includes a helpful stitch dictionary. I will probably come back to this book as a reference later.

Easy for beginners

This book as well it out. The instructions and illustrations are clear. I’m left-handed and I still was able to make sense of this. It’s made me comfortable enough to try something new!

These books get a bit easier to understand the more I practice. I am still practicing stitches, and trying to get the hang of counting and the turn, and speed- i'm slow!

Star Stitch

I questioned whether the book had the star stitch pattern and how to do it, before I bought it! Could not find it in the kindle book at all!

Very Helpful

I'm a beginner and this book taught me all of the basic stitches I need. I'm going to master them before learning the more difficult ones.

great instructions

Would have liked more images, but for a reading instruction book, this is a great one. Patterns on the back are wonderful.
