A farmgirl in space.

Fulfilling her mom’s dying wish, Maisy goes to live with her dad on the Citadel, a fancy name for an ore processing plant built into the side of an asteroid. There she discovers the terrible truth…

Space is boring.

No alien princesses, no cool cyborgs. Just a greedy corporation that controls everything from the food you eat to the air you breathe.

Welcome to the Citadel.

Just as Maisy starts to settle into station life, the coalition government decides policing the edges of space is just too hard, so they bail. Her dad and the rest of the marines on the Citadel now report directly to the Corporation. The safety inspectors are on the first ship back to Earth.

Those who complain start to disappear.

When their parents go missing and the station goes on lockdown, Maisy and the other “orphans” of the Citadel go on the run. The temperature in the lower levels of the station is rising and communications are blocked. Suddenly...

Life is a little too interesting.

BOOK:THE WINDLESS SKY BY MICHAEL OWENS
BOOK REVIEWER:OKOKO AYEZU TAMARAPREYE

SYNOPSIS:
This fictional story set in Franklin county indiana discusses everything from sports, business to politics with its core being mergers as it affects businesses and coalition government as it affects businesses and nations. It discusses the crime of corporate espionage ;organ harvesting in the corporation; water ways piracy;organised crime;;revolts;workers protest;struggle for superiority by one group over the other;unfair competition;the era of family ships to the era of corporations; the problems that plague coalition government and coalition in businesses and its benefits looking especially at employee protection and losses. There's also a brief touch on network hitches and telecommunication services issues.

LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE BOOK

🖲️Introverts and self sufficiency as seen in Maisy.

🖲️The beauty and comfort of a marine or water travel station just like train stations and airports.

🖲️The likening of the raiders and pirates in the corporation sponsored raid that necessitated its sale to the corps to a hostile take over shows some of the negatives of coalition as it weakens the executive especially in a democracy.

APPLICATION OF LESSONS LEARNT

While coalition promotes nationalism and debases regionalism and sessionist tendencies, i think it serves the personal interest of those in the cabinet or government over national interest.
It also provides the tendency to encourage defection to ruling party and promotes one party system and unfair competition in as much as the government becomes responsible like the philandering man whose parents advice to take a wife to become responsible .It accumulates debt in having to meet all parties interest.Even in a non coalition government there are rumours of national finance being used to fund party affair, this however heightens with coalition government . We see in mergers the need sometimes for downsizing but in coalition government since a downsizing is not clearly possible the economy suffers at the expense of uniting and calming rising tension of a few politicians. Most times this is ocassioned by multiple appointments than necessary in ordinary circumstance.

My stand and opinion here is put forward as an observer of the political space.

I really enjoyed this book! I would love to see where they are going next and to see this "world" and characters fleshed out a little more. I can pretty much "see" it happening in my head, so I like how it is laid out. For some reason, I get a little feeling of Total Recall - if we get tired of you, you'll end up here. I find it a little cautionary in that I bet I'd be expendable! No space exploration for me! Really like Maisy, who is just doing what she feels is right, not being a martyr. I'm sure 115 people or so can figure out how to fix this spaceship and create a new world...let's see!

I really appreciated the novel Windless Sky and the storyline that was provided. Maisey was a strong character who was someone that I found myself believing that I’d follow to fight the good fight. I found myself a little bogged down with some action and narrative, which is the result of the loss of a star, but it’s a minor detail and probably more my fault than that of the author. Overall, this was a fun SF read and one that I’d probably recommend to my SF minded friends and students.

Received as a review copy from Booksirens, this is an honest review. What a story is this book is and its quirky and colorful characters that populate it makes it's a journey you don't want to be over. I really liked Maisy from the start and how her life was realistically altered in the wake of her mom's death. The Citadel is a cool, intriguing and gets down right crazy mysterious as they story goes deeper, leaving the kids aboard the place fighting to make it as the adults vanish and the Citadel becomes a much darker places to call home. A great ride of any adventure, highly recommended.
