Cursed was really good. Like, really good.
Okay, now that’s out of the way. This follows two pairings, Cam and Everton, and then the new throuple, Tully, Dev and Sparks. Which does mean there are five POV characters, which can be a lot. But it doesn’t really feel like at the same time. After the events of the first book (which you don’t really need to read, this isn’t exactly a standalone, but there is so much recap, it’s not really necessary) Cam is in the Ancestral Lands learning how to be fae, and Everton is with him, kind of just keeping an eye out, making sure he’s safe, and they’re both pining. Dev and Tully are living together, very happily, it’s very cute. But their coven is in disarray, the former high priest, Byron, is hospitalised and people are dead. Sparks, who was part of the coven wants to get everyone back together, and uses a bit of magic to do it. But it does bring the three together, thanks to a weird house and a god.
Meanwhile Cam is being forced to get Lady Aine, the queen of the Ancestral Lands, pregnant, even though he’s gay. He’s also sucking badly at learning how to be fae. When he’s able to get free, it’s only on the condition that he doesn’t expose the Shadow Realm, and he brings back a vial of baby batter for Lady Aine, or he’ll be exiled, and that means death.
So while he’s trying to have sexy times with Everton so he can fulfil his promise to Lady Aine, Everton has discovered one of his wolves is dead and a new alpha is sniffing around. Because of Byron trying to save his boyfriend Addas, the ley lines aren’t doing well, and Edmonton is vulnerable to demons, which are causing chaos. Which means it’s not just Cam being the bridge between the two groups, they all need to work out how to not die by wraith.
Honestly this is such a fun story, Cam is hilarious and the developing relationship between Dev, Tully and Sparks is wonderful. I think the moment they actually did get together was great, what an epic moment with the horned god. The cliffhanger at the end though? Oh my god, I’m waiting on the edge of my seat to find out what happens with these characters. It was easy to fall in love with them and their various relationships, not just the romantic ones, but the friendships and family bonds were just lovely to read about.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
