Cam Habersham is having a hell of a time keeping up with his fae studies in the Ancestral Lands because a certain werewolf constantly interrupts his thoughts. Everton Lilch is the wolfen beast who follows Cam around, but he pushes Cam away every time things get steamy.

The queen of the fae has had enough and tasks Cam with an impossible feat, an undertaking only Everton can help him accomplish.

Without his coven, Sparks Gemmell is a lost witch. In desperation, he casts a spell, hoping to reunite his brothers. But he doesn’t count on the wayward route magic often takes. He finds himself wrapped up in a mandate of the horned god and inserted into his Shadow Brothers’ relationship in order to protect his city from the darkest elements of the Shadow Realm.

As the darkness of the Shadow Realm descends, Cam and his werewolf, along with Sparks and his coven brothers, confront wraiths, mutant werewolves, and witch law enforcement. Chaos erupts in an effort to please queens and gods.

After all, it comes down to the ley of the land.

J.P. Jackson is an award winning author of dark urban fantasy, paranormal, and even paranormal romance stories, but regardless of the genre they always feature LGBTQ+ main characters.

J.P. works as an IT analyst in health care during the day, where if cornered he’d confess to casting spells to ensure clinicians actually use the electronic medical charting system he configures and implements.

At night, the writing happens, where demons, witches and shape shifters congregate around the kitchen table and general chaos ensues. His husband of 22 years has very firmly put his foot down on any further wraith summonings and regularly lines the doorway with iron shavings and salt crystals. Imps are most definitely not house-trainable. Ghosts appear at the most inopportune times, and the Fae are known for regular visits where a glass of wine is exchanged for a good ole story or two. Although the husband doesn’t know it, Canela and Jalisco, the two Chihuahuas, are in cahoots with the spell casting.

J.P.’s other hobbies include hybridizing African Violets (thanks to grandma), extensive travelling and believe it or not, knitting.

I've enjoyed both books in the series so far. And not just because they are intensely hot! (no joke!)
I received an ARC copy of this book.

Ok, at first I was lost when I started this book. I had not read the first one and I had no idea who Cam was. But I got past that part and I fell in love.

This was not a book about Cam the new fae and Everton the wolf shifter, even if they are in this story. This was the romance of the throuple Dev, Sparks, and Tully. I know the blurb does not make it clear, but I was delighted as I love poly.

These three create a new male coven (which apparently is all gay orgy awesomeness) and are blessed by their God? Being that they worship? Anyways, they take over the area from whatever happened in the first book and things go back to being more normal.

Cam, meanwhile, is not doing well. At the end of this, Cam is in a tree and Ev watches over the tree at night. I am going to assume that their story continues on.

But I really wish this book had concentrated only on the throuple. I did not like going back and forth between Cam/Ev/Sparks/Dev&Tully. If this was made into two books and edited a bit, it would have been perfect.

While I received this book from GRR, I will be buying the first book so that I can see what happened before.

While a human-turned-fairy stresses out about his new responsibilities as a royal fae (and tries to navigate things with his not-boyfriend werewolf), the witches formerly known as the Guardians of Night Grove are forced to defend the city they call home from horrific creatures from the Shadow Realm. J.P. Jackson’s Cursed, the second book in the Magus Malefica series, picks up right where the first one left off, following the lives of Dev Khandelwal and Cam Habersham after a wish-gone-wrong thrust the both of them into the world of magic, monsters, and darkness. And of course, they are bringing their beaus along for the ride.

Just like the first book, the story flips back and forth between Cam and Dev’s lives, with Cam getting a bit more focus this time around. However, we also get to see the perspectives of the men in their lives. We have Everton, the werewolf who was held captive and escaped with Cam in the previous book, Tully, Dev’s boyfriend, whom he has since moved in with, and Sparks, a close friend of Dev and Tully and fellow, who soon finds himself drawn much, much closer to the two.

I enjoyed reading the way Cam and Everton would go back and forth, completely oblivious of each other’s true feelings - unlike everyone else around them. And while Dev and Tully are already an established relationship, reading about Spark’s burgeoning feelings for the other two men was an interesting turn. There were hints at this attraction in the first book that are fully brought into play here thanks to the meddling of a certain horned god, leading to all three men having to think through and deal with all the complications that a polyamorous relationship comes with.

When the book isn’t focused on the romances of these five men, it centers around a dark and action-filled plot that manages to tie seemingly unrelated storylines together marvelously. Deadly creatures are on the loose in Edmonton, putting citizens of both the Mundane and Shadow Realms at risk. J.P. does a wonderful job in painting a gruesome scene as the mysteries of Night Grove are investigated further, and he does an equally great job at expanding on his established supernatural universe. We get to learn more about the rules of magic and the dark creatures that inhabit our world.

I won’t give anything away, but the book’s story kept me fully engaged from start to finish. Many of the dangling plot threads from the first book get resolved here, and a whole new set is introduced. A fantastic read and excellent addition to the Magus Malefica series, of which I am already looking forward to the next one.

I really enjoyed this book. Maybe even more than the first. I loved that the spice level never changed, if anything it amplified (hello, Sparks!). I felt so much emotion with this book. Cam and Ev continue to reign as my favorite couple. My heart broke and mended with them. Looking forward to book three!

In which a new Magus Malefica is born, putting Dev, Tully, and Sparks at the helm. Everton and Cam finally come to terms with what they are to each other. Byron definitely gets what’s coming to him.

This story moved fairly fast. I believe it is a better story than the first book. More depth, more questions answered, and much more information about the players. There are a lot interesting things going on. I want badly to explain them here but must maintain the zipped lips to allow other readers to learn the surprises on their own.

The writing was well done. The imagination that the author has is amazing. The angst factor was probably at a medium level and sizzle factor was high.

Loved the second installment of this series. As stated it follows Cam and his plight in his new found world. I’m not going to totally spoil it, but definitely read it. It does answer the Alric and his lover question. I totally can’t wait to see the evolution of Cam and Ev as well as Dev and his boys. The coven is expanding and becoming healthy too.

Wow! I just finished Cursed and was drawn into the story and characters from the get-go. This is a new to me author but I’m a fan now and will be diving into his other stories. How can you go wrong with all things paranormal like witches, fae, and werewolves? The friendship between friends who become lovers demonstrated a bond that I hope will continue to flourish as the comfort of friendship turns to love. There was so much action and resolve. I want to say more but don’t want to spoil your fun, so I won’t! Dev, Tully, and Sparks rock so you really need to read this book and be amazed!

A Joyfully Jay review.

Cursed is the second installment of J.P. Jackson’s Magus Malefica series. The story continues to swap between two main veins of action: the witches Sparks, Dev, and Tully are in one thread, while Eldritch fae Cam and werewolf Ev are in the other. In this installment, I was very pleased with the sense that both threads contained elements that were crucial to the plot. At the same time, each thread also did a lot of heavy lifting in exploring Sparks’ relationship with Dev and Tully, and exploring Cam’s and Everton’s inability to talk about their feelings for each other (their lust, though…). All together, it felt like these two threads were moving in parallel, dipping and weaving, but without much interaction. Yet it was clear that the two threads would converge at some point.

I’ve been looking forward to this, I loved the first book, Summoned, and this is the next instalment. To be fair, it can be read as a standalone, as the author does a stellar job of explaining what happened in the first book, without info-dumping or forced insertions of prose. So if you haven’t read Summoned, it’s okay, but really, it isn’t. I mean, why haven’t you? You’re missing out.

And this book, I’m loathe to say but I will anyway, is actually better. The characters have had a chance to mature and be rounded out. We really get to know this engaging bunch of werewolves, fae and witches, and the plot, although complex, is easy to follow. Basically, there are two groups of friends, Cam and Everton, trying to sort out one magical mess, and Dev, Sparks and Tully trying to solve another. There’s also a werewolf on the loose, and a vengeful witch trying to make trouble for all of them. Mayhem ensues.

I love this book. I saw flashes of the author’s humour and mischief-making in Summoned, but this time, he’s really let loose. There are fabulous scenes, some of which are incredibly steamy, and the terrific themes of friends supporting friends, queer brothers in arms and a lovely polyamory twist I wasn’t expecting.

Be warned though, this author has a twisted heart, so don’t expect things to be resolved in one pretty, neatly wrapped bow. I said this about Summoned, but I’m going to say it about this book. This is his best yet. Brilliantly written, with sparky dialogue and sumptuous world-building, dark humour and a great balance of romance, horror and tension in the magical world which exists alongside our own.

J.P. Jackson ups the ante in "Cursed", the second installment of his "Magus Malefica" series, following last year's "Summoned." We're led on a wild ride with witches, fae and werewolves, wraiths and spectres and Gods. The descriptions are vibrant and colourful, weaving an intricate tapestry of a complex world. The characters of "Summoned" reemerge, tasked with starting a new coven, and lead us on a series of twists and turns that keep us on the edge of our seat. Props to Mr Jackson for turning up the spice even higher in this volume—nude men and steamy group fun abound here, leading to sizzlingly salacious scenes.
If you're up for a dose of otherworldly excitement, then this is your bag. Bravo, Mr Jackson.

This is the 2nd book in the magnus malefica series! Book one had a slow start but this book was amazingly fast paced and so good! We learn more about the shadow realm and pieces of the puzzle start to come together! There are different relationships going on in this series; so far we have a MM and a MMM relationship! Cam and Ev seemed fated just like sparks, dev and Tully! Well developed paranormal romance with action, mystery and steam!! Looking forward to reading more! I received this book from gay romance reviews and these are my honest opinions

Have you been wondering where the Magus Malefica title for the series comes from? Congrats, you will find out in this book! It feels like this book, and book 1 (Summoned) are like the origin story for what is to come.

But here we pick up on how Cam is doing being in the Fae lands, shocker - not great. They don't drink coffee. We also learn why Sparks volunteered to be a bond brother to Dev at the ceremony. You get a check in on how Byron is doing, shocker - not great. And get introduced to the Magistrates, the Shadow Realm's police force.

Like the first book, there seem to be story point or threads that are started, not discussed for a long period of time, then are vaugly mentioned or touched on at the end. For the most part, those instances from book 1 were explored in book 2, so there is hope that these little bits from book 2 will be picked up in book 3. Dedicating so many words and character time to issues then not really resolving or mentioning it gets a little grating to me. Kept this book out of the 4 start range for me, and bumped it down to 3.5 stars.

This was book two in the series and I wouldn't suggest reading it as a standalone - Why??
Because a few chapters into Cursed and you will be hooked -wanting more
Oh and there is the fact that a lot has already happened

Loved the world-building here
Such a fantastical creation - The different species and rules
The author did a fabulous job of bringing it all to life

The story is packed with action, humor, some angst, and a few twists - as well as personal growth for some of the cast
There are two different relationships highlighted, one more than the other
and the obvious series plotline

If you enjoy MM romance, poly relationships, monsters you want to cuddle, a few you definitely don't, and a storyline that has humor, angst, suspense, and great character growth
This is it!

I am going back to the beginning and starting from there

So, the first book in this series was a bit of a disappointment for me, mainly because of the high amount of angst I felt while reading about main character Cameron and the high amount of stupidity I felt for main character Devid.

Luckily, the second book was a lot better! It started out with answering a lot of questions left at the end of the first book. We also get to see a bit more of Cameron, although I felt the book was more about Sparks and I just like Cameron better ;) I would have liked to see even more of him, but hopefully the series will continue and we will! He is such a sarcastic young man, but underneath he is really sweet and just want Ev to keep his promise.

Ev on the other hand doesn’t know what to do with Cam and tries to run away from himself and Cam. I really hope we will see more of him in the next book as well.
This book focused more on the Dev’s relationship and his new job using the gifts he got in the first book.

Meanwhile, strange events are happening all around town and it’s up to the Magus Malefica to fix stuff and make sure they don’t die in the process.

There is still a large amount of (semi-random) hot action going on with (A LOT!) of bearded/hairy men, which is not really my cup of tea, but it fits in the story.

Overall, an enjoyable read and a solid 3 stars from me, because there were still some sore points for me. Hopefully the series will keep on getting better with each book!

Enthralling!

“Feelings are complicated. They’re tricky too. But if you don’t put yourself all out there, how can you ever expect him to do the same?”

J.P. Jackson describes himself as one who ‘weaves words into bizarre tales,’ and he is spot on with Cursed, book 2 in his Magus Malefica - The Coven Series.

We met Dev, Cam, and Tully in book 1, Summoned, and we continue to watch their lives become even more intricately entangled, as internal workings in the magical community are exposed, and certain members are found to be harming others. We now find two more supporting characters that hold a deeper meaning to these men, in Cursed.

This is a story of trust and love, of devotion and desperation, of destruction and growth. These men, be they Fae, Lycan, or magic users, have now become cogs in their hidden world, and are tasked with preserving the safety of their communities, along with the unsuspecting humans, whom they live beside.

In Jackson’s Cursed, there is explosive action, emotional turmoil, mystical happenings, and lusty relationships forming, that all support this epic saga. As a reader, you are swept into the middle of the frenetic energy that each of the main characters, and many supportive ones bring, to form a cohesive tale of friendship and love.

This is a spectacular series, that I am already anxious to have continued!

Cursed was really good. Like, really good.
Okay, now that’s out of the way. This follows two pairings, Cam and Everton, and then the new throuple, Tully, Dev and Sparks. Which does mean there are five POV characters, which can be a lot. But it doesn’t really feel like at the same time. After the events of the first book (which you don’t really need to read, this isn’t exactly a standalone, but there is so much recap, it’s not really necessary) Cam is in the Ancestral Lands learning how to be fae, and Everton is with him, kind of just keeping an eye out, making sure he’s safe, and they’re both pining. Dev and Tully are living together, very happily, it’s very cute. But their coven is in disarray, the former high priest, Byron, is hospitalised and people are dead. Sparks, who was part of the coven wants to get everyone back together, and uses a bit of magic to do it. But it does bring the three together, thanks to a weird house and a god.
Meanwhile Cam is being forced to get Lady Aine, the queen of the Ancestral Lands, pregnant, even though he’s gay. He’s also sucking badly at learning how to be fae. When he’s able to get free, it’s only on the condition that he doesn’t expose the Shadow Realm, and he brings back a vial of baby batter for Lady Aine, or he’ll be exiled, and that means death.

So while he’s trying to have sexy times with Everton so he can fulfil his promise to Lady Aine, Everton has discovered one of his wolves is dead and a new alpha is sniffing around. Because of Byron trying to save his boyfriend Addas, the ley lines aren’t doing well, and Edmonton is vulnerable to demons, which are causing chaos. Which means it’s not just Cam being the bridge between the two groups, they all need to work out how to not die by wraith.
Honestly this is such a fun story, Cam is hilarious and the developing relationship between Dev, Tully and Sparks is wonderful. I think the moment they actually did get together was great, what an epic moment with the horned god. The cliffhanger at the end though? Oh my god, I’m waiting on the edge of my seat to find out what happens with these characters. It was easy to fall in love with them and their various relationships, not just the romantic ones, but the friendships and family bonds were just lovely to read about.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

I absolutely loved this book! I can't write this review without saying something about the first book, because these books definitely belong together and I would suggest reading them in succession. The first book is almost like it's a elaborate introduction of Dev and the magical world he's suddenly part of. The parts I felt were missing in the first book are brought to life in the second.

The second book is magical. Dev, Cam, Ev and Tully are confronted with consequences of events that took place in the first book. They all face their own struggles and journey. The budding romance between the Eldritch fae and the Monster Werewolf is insanely adorable and it's nice to see Cam getting his chance to shine and his character getting developed further.

There's also excellent puns, humor and tons of sas. Mostly Cam-shaped sas. Which makes his character even more lovable in my opinion.

I really don't want to give too much away about the book, because with spoilers - no matter how small - the read would be a lot less magical.

You really need to have read the first book in this series to get the most out of this book. This is a terrific mm paranormal story that has interesting characters and a very different sort of plot. There are all kinds of supernatural creatures but the main story is about a trio of guys who are mandated by a god, have to fulfill the orders of a queen and just you know do ordinary stuff like save the world. My first review of this book was much more detailed but a certain company wouldn’t print it and I have no idea what they objected to plus I don’t like super long reviews so I will just say that I highly recommend this book and this series to you if you like mm supernatural stories with some romance in them.

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review

This book was so good. It was the sequel to Summoned. Cam is a brand new fairy. He was accidentally turned into a fairy in the first book. While he is trying to learn how to be a fae he can't stop thinking about the werewolf alpha Everton who he was locked up with in the first book.
Now the fairy queen has demanded that Can get her pregnant even though he told her he was gay and not interested. She tells him she only needs his juices and he has to get it through a coupling. So he sets out in search of Everton who has gone back to the city.
This book was fantastic. It was full of magic, danger and suspense. It was spicy and I love the characters. It has witches, fairies, werewolves and a horny god. Not too mention other creatures. I absolutely loved every minute of it.

Fae, werewolves, witches, wraiths, a queen, a gods...this book has a wonderful range of paranormal beings. It's fun, action-packed, and steamy, with a moderate level of angst to keep things emotional and engaging. Cam and Dev from the first book are here, along with several new characters. I love MMM or more relationships, so the throuple in this book was icing on the cake of an already enjoyable story. I really enjoy the author's world-building and interesting characters. Looking forward to the next book.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Fae, witches, werewolves, gods, royalty you name it, this world has this type of paranormal being somewhere, and they all are supposed to interact according to certain rules. When these rules are broken, all kinds of chaos ensues. The world building is excellent with just the right amount of explanation so you aren't lost but never feel like you are getting an information dump. Loved the relationship between Cam and Everton.

Faster pace & keeps this reader’s attention. Book two in the series brings maturation to many of the Summoned (Book 1) characters, and an expansion to the overall story arc. Thoroughly enjoyable with more character depth and dimension. JP digs into the subtle nuances of old and new relationships with grit and humor while the main character & crew charge through various obstacles. This book is chock full of fantasy creatures doing their thing! Suspense, humor, spicy romance, dark musings - it has it all.

He is struggling to keep up his studies because of them as he thinks about them all the time. Although as soon as things start to get steamy they run away and the queen has had enough. She gives them both a task which seems impossible. What is that task? How will it all go? Will they find their brothers? See where this tale will take you

I started off a little confused because I didn't read the first book of the series, but once I got past that I enjoyed it.
