Teaming to Solve Problems and to Find Love
No one truly understands the dynamics of a family except from the inside out. Haven Weber, a sweet, smart, hardworking beauty with blonde hair and blue eyes didn’t know what a happy, normal, healthy family was like until at 16, she emancipated herself from her addicted, drug dealing parents to live with the family of her best friend Evangeline Davis. And, since Haven has seen and lived both a dysfunctional family and a healthy family, she understands the differences that can only be fully appreciated when seen through the eyes of child who instinctively loved and trusted the adults who were to be the caregivers until the caregivers proved to be untrustworthy.
Now as an independent adult, Haven has finally begun to put her own independent life together as the PA for Kingston Welker. Now, by working hard and saving, she even bought her own house and car. So, it appears that finally, Haven’s life is seemingly on a positive pathway until she discovers that her boyfriend, Carter Mercer, is more like her parents than she could have possibly imagined—like her parents he has used and taken advantage of her, running up huge debts on her credit cards without her permission and throwing her into such deep debt that now, she may have her house and car taken from her.
Kingston Welker is the handsome son of a successful father who is the owner of the Kansas City Football team. Currently, Kingston handles the finances—merchandise, advertisements, corporate licensing—but with the announcement of the VP’s upcoming retirement, it is expected that Kingston will be asked to move into that position. But, without warning, Kingston is told that the family board that controls the team which his father owns is not planning to name him VP—he is unmarried and has no children.
The board’s message is that if Kingston wishes to move into the VP position he needs to be a “family man” like his cousin who is not only married, but is also expecting his second child. And, when he discovers the perfidy of his ex-girlfriend who was attempting to intentionally get pregnant by Kingston to secure her future life, Kingston feels that his whole world is crumbling. He needs a wife and a family to secure the VP position, but not a real wife and family.
So, when Haven, faced by the need to make money to cover the debts she did not accrue, beautiful Haven with her lush body, blonde hair and clear blue eyes agrees to help her boss, Kingston Welker, to navigate his way through his own troubled family and work dynamics. So, the boss and his secretary decide to pair up—but not really. They will help each other out of their difficult situations, and once Kingston becomes VP and Haven finances get sorted, they will be fake husband and devoted wife.
Alexia Chase has crafted a clever romance where challenges provided motivation of two adults to seek a shared solution to their personal needs. And along the pathway to solving personal problems, they find that the best solution is facing life as a team.
