How difficult could it be pretending to be in love with a virtual stranger?
I’ll do anything to get my trust fund on my twenty-fifth birthday, even if it means striking a deal with the new barista.
My parents think they can manipulate me into being the robot they deem acceptable to society by withholding my trust fund, but the joke’s on them if they think I’ll give in to their demands. I’m a Remington, which means stubborn is my middle name.
Sage is perfect for the role of fake girlfriend, but at some point, pretending to date her turns into real feelings that make me question every dream I’ve had.
Meet Fake is a fake relationship rom-com with crackling chemistry full of laughs and heart. It's the second book in the Meet Cute Series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Abi Sabina writes sweet closed door romance full of swoon, sass, and humor. She traded in the big city life for small town living when she moved to Spain.
She hasn't wrangled herself a country boy yet, but she writes books based on charming heroes and small town charm. (And maybe throw in the city setting every so often.)
She loves coffee, country music, and the mountains. Her goal is to write stories that make you feel, smile, and cheer on love.
Tristan needs access to his trust fund to start his non-profit organisation by his 25th birthday, but his parents won't give it to him until they see him settling down. Here comes Sage, the perfect fake girlfriend to fool his parents except lines start to blur and things get complicated which leads them questioning everything.
Tristan had a heart of gold, the most selfless man with everything he did. Him and Sage fit perfectly. This had me giggling, blushing and screaming. They were both adorable and I loved Hudson and Lex being so involved in this book too. I loved the epilogue with the two of them and the closure for both Tristan and Hudson.
Title: Meet Fake Author: Abi Sabina Hero/Heroine: Tristan & Sage Tropes: Fake Relationship/Small Town
TW/CW: Mentions of a long term illness, toxic parental relationship,
THE GOOD 😀
I’ve read several sweet, closed door romances recently that I’ve really enjoyed, and I’d like to add Meet Fake to that list. Charming, funny hero and a sweet and sassy heroine made this story so bloody adorable, I couldn’t help but smile as I was reading. Tristan is in a bit of a desperate situation: back from volunteering in Africa for Without Borders, he has plans to start his own non-profit, however he needs his trust fund to do this. Which his parents are currently holding hostage. Tristan needs to prove to them that he’s matured and capable of being in a relationship. Enter Sage. When Tristan asks her for help, she feels like this is something she needs to do as, as she has a mountain of medical bills to pay. These two were so sweet together; even as friends they had great chemistry, swapping banter and making fun of each other. As the story progressed, so did feelings between them, and I adored how caring Tristan was whenever Sage had a flare up. Sage, not used to having people stick around due to her illness, finds herself drawn to Tristan, even though she’s convinced herself nothing can ever happen between them. With family issues, catching up with old friends and finding that one person who changes everything for you, Meet Fake was a sweet and swoon worthy story, with two characters I couldn’t help but love.
THE BAD ☹️
Tristan’s mother. Vile woman. Into the bin she goes.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Sweet story with wonderful characters, very enjoyable STEAM LEVEL: 🔥 (closed door) STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Read if you like: Dual POV, fake relationship, small town, closed door romance, chronic illness representation
Tristan will do anything to get his trust fund on his 25th birthday, even if it means paying the cute new barista to be his fake girlfriend. He wants to start his own non-profit so he has to deal with his manipulative family to get the money.
Sage is perfect for the role of fake girlfriend, but at some point, pretending to date her turns into real feelings that make him question every dream I’ve had. She has lupus. I love the representation for that in this book. It's highlighted really well.
This is the cutest fake dating romance. I loved the characters in this book minus his mom. Ugh. Tristan and Sage are perfect. The progression of feelings as the book went on was very well done. Their banter is so realistic and so funny. Although this is closed door romance there is obvious attraction, kissing, and you definitely get the swoony feeling. Highly recommend you pick this up today! This is my first by Abi and won't be my last.
Thank you so much to Abi Sabina for the gifted ebook. ❤️
This was such a cute read! I love a book with two amazing, caring selfless MC’s and this is exactly that. Meet fake has fake dating, chronic illness rep, dual POV and a lot of laughs. Tristan (the MMC) is just like the best sort of person, kind brother, caring friend and not to mention he has spent his time travelling and volunteering for kids in need! I adored the easy connection between Sage and Tristan and its sweet how protective he was of her (even if that would irk me personally, I could tell Sage appreciated it). I also loved seeing Lex and Hudson (our couple from the first book of the series; Meet Again) and the relationship between the four of them and how everyone welcomed Sage with open arms.
This is a closed door romance but all the sweetness makes up for the spice, this is also set around a cafe where Sage works as a barista which I LOVE (maybe a little bias because I am also a barista that works at a cafe called ‘The Bean’ LOL) but overall this is a fantastic read and I’m so blessed I got to read it a little early! This is being released in about 2 weeks on September 8th and I would suggest everyone gets themselves a copy to read :D
This second book in the series by Abi Sabina was great! I love the fake dating trope and this rendition of it was great!
Tristan is a caring and selfless person who wants to give back. In order to do so he needs access to his trust fund. He pays Sage a barista at a coffee shop to pretend be his girlfriend but soon things go from fake to very real.
Tristan and sage are great together. The banter and the chemistry is obvious between them.
This is a closed door romance but still has so much sweetness.
I loved being able to read more about the couple from the previous book!
I loved the first book of the series but I loved this book even more! The story was so sweet with lots of tension. But everything was clean and only had a few kisses. Really touching sweet story! I loved Sage and really felt for her for all the struggles she had in life. Yet she was a positive upbeat person. I also loved how Tristan found life/work balance with Sage. Great adventure for the heart! Can’t wait for the next book! Rating: G/PG clean, sweet romance
I received this book as an ARC and I absolutely LOVED it! I couldn't put it down. Tristan and Sage have the best chemistry and you're rooting for them from the start. I cannot think of two more wholesome characters! I loved the Lupus representation and the caring for sick trope is of course in the book too. Tristan is the best cinnamon roll hero and if you've read Meet Again you'll get more towards Lex and Hudson's story as well. I devoured this book within a day and had a book hangover from it. Absolutely recommend. Meet Fake is out today and available through KU. You definitely don't want to miss out on this cute love story.
Such a cute read! Tristan and Sage stole my heart right from the first page. I loved the coffee shop setting, especially when he stayed behind to help clean up 😍😍😍. Tristan has such a huge heart, and I really enjoyed seeing his interactions with his brother and hearing about his dreams. The ending was really sweet, and I would love to go into so much more detail about how nicely it rounded off the book, but this is a spoiler free review and you’ll have to settle for me just telling you to go read this book.
I feel like Tristian and Sage are one of the sweetest couples I have ever read. Abi did a great job writing about Sage’s chronic illness. It’s really easy to take like for granted and to complain about the small things but this helps to put life into perspective. Family can get messy and Abi did not spare the drama there. I loved seeing them defend each other. This was a great read!!
– this is the second book of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Tristan & Sage’s points of view
– Sage deals with lupus
Review:
At first, with how much Tristan and Sage were strangers I wasn’t sure how well their fake relationship would change to become more. But after a couple of chapters I was completely on board with wanting to see them together for real! I loved seeing them become friends and learn more about each other. I loved seeing both Sage and Tristan have the chance to stand up for each other in small/big ways and take it. Some of my favorite scenes include: Tristan caring for a sick Sage, Sage’s friend grilling Tristan like he’s a real boyfriend, the wedding, Lexi and her friends accepting Sage into their circle, and the result of the birthday party & gifts.
Tristan needs his parents to let go over their need to hold things over their kids. In this case, they’re holding Tristan’s trust fund over his head. The same trust fund he needs to get on his 25th birthday in order to fund his ambitious pursuit of creating his own non-profit organization. But they are stubborn and gave him requirements that he must fulfill in order to be granted their blessing to access the trust fund. None of them fit his idea of the future…but one he might be able to use to con his parents into believing…
Sage just started as a barista in her childhood hometown. With her condition, she needed to leave college and take time to learn how to manage her symptoms in order to continue on with her life. Now she has a ton of debt, feels like she is a burden on her parents, the possibility of losing her job hanging over her head. Her past few jobs couldn’t accommodate when she had unexpected lengths of time needed to recover and Sage worries that’ll be the same case for this job. But all her debt problems could go away if she accepts Tristan’s offer.
Tristan believes he can con his parents into believing he’s in a committed relationship, he just needs to find the right woman to agree with his plan. When he meets Sage, he’s intrigued by her and shocks her with the suggestion of fake dating him, especially when he tells her how much money he’d be willing to give her in exchange after he receives his trust fund. After some thought, Sage agrees to his plan.
What neither of them expected was to find real feelings for each other in this arrangement, and what it could mean for the deal as well as the futures they originally wanted. With both of them questioning what they want in life, can their budding relationship become something more or will they choose to go their separate ways despite the feelings plaguing their every move?
Tristan is in a sticky situation. He needs his trust money to start his own non profit organization. His parents are holding it until he can prove that he has grown up and is settled. Boo you Tristan parents! Sage needs money to pay her medical bills. So … one plus one equals two. Its simple math right?! Lets fake date.
So I loved the first book, but this one, step back Hudson and Lex; there is a new couple in town! I AM SOCIOPATHICALLY OBSESSED! Is that even a word?! I don’t give a darn.
It was so cute, fun, and just an overall amazing vibe. The easy banter and subtle flirting was top notch. A+. Yes, yes & yes to everything in this book! The characters, storyline, writing style, and the lovely author!
Tristan & Sage relationship was amazingly sculpted. Such a mature supporting partnership. They had the chemistry, sassiness, flirtness, caveman protectiveness, and understanding. That Tristan, a genuine cinnamon roll. And Sage, a strong kind compassionate human being.
It was such a joy to partake in witnessing their relationship journey & how the two inevitably fell for each other. Yes, it did make me feel like a peeping Tom, but bruh I live for this! I loved how they started their relationship as friends and then transitioned obviously to fake dating. The foundation of it was right and solid. And their connection was everything.
I adored those sweet scenes dispersed throughout: the wedding, the karate moves, birthday gift buying, Friends watching, bed cover hover, taking care of the other, and last but not least, the epilogue. The writing style was clear & simple making my reading glide so smoothly. And not to forget to mention, I had butterflies and Aww moments the entire time. I was smiling all along like a crazy person.
I’d have to say bye to the Remington brothers. Ain’t I? I knew this day will come, but still … I’m entitled to be saaaaad! I can still pout about it.
Thanks to Abi for the ARC copy. This book was impeccable. The perfect romcom when you just need a pick me up, feel good escape. Pick it up. Pick it up. Pick it up.
Let me end it here before I overdo it as trust me I can talk about it all day long. Bye.
Where do I begin? I really liked this book! At first, I felt it was a little like insta-love vibe. I'm usually not a big fan of it, but Abi made it in a way I didn't mind.
Their first meeting was something else. Tristan's deal/intentions really with a total stranger had me in doubt haha but once it develops, it's fun to read.
As this couple dives into the fake relationship trope, I loved the teasing and the admiration they had of one another throughout the story. I also really admired Sage. I can't imagine how living with a disease such as lupus is like. It helped me understand a little bit more of this disease. Once you know Tristan, you love him! He was such a sweet and caring man.
I liked the part of them getting to know each other. Sometimes I felt it was happening too quick, and other times it wasn't happening as fast as I wanted haha that slow burn for the first kiss was brutal.
I loved how he took care of Sage when she had a flare up of her Lupus. It was really sweet how he made sure she knew she was being cared for and cherished.
When the main conflict hit, I was in a mix of emotions. I understood it, but at the same time I was like please Sage talk to him!. I was glad Tristan wasn't giving up on her. I also liked how he stood up for himself, Hudson and Sage. He was super precious 💕. The epilogue was also super sweet ☕.
🍁 * I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*
When Tristan is back in his hometown trying to get access to his trust fund, his parents made up some restrictions for Tristan to actually get the money. They find him not mature enough and want him to settle down with a good job or a decent relationship. But he need the money because he want to set up a non profit organization for children in need in third world countries. When he is in the nearby coffeeshop he meets Sage, the barista. They have a little chat and he thinks she's nice. She's a bit sassy, but he likes that. He found out about her money trouble and she learned about his project. After a couple of days Tristan came up with the idea that she can be his fake girlfriend. To get the trust fund en she can pay her medical bills. She has a disease; Lupus. So they started dating and go fool his parents. But they're gonna like each other's company very much en the line between fake and real starts to get blurry.
Tristan and Sage are such a sweet couple! They're adorable! They're talk to each other with so much humor. Sage is such a strong woman, how she handles her disease and have to live with it. She's so caring and wants the best for Tristan. And Tristan finds the joy in his life when he met her. And he's also very caring, he wants to protect Sage and want to take care of her, especially when she has a flare up. And his parents..... Gosh, there terrible! I liked the way Tristan and Sage become close, and the friendship with Tristans brother and friends.
I really love to read this book, Thanks for the arc!
Awwwwwww! Only Abi Sabina can make me love a book so much although there's kissing only!
Tristan wants to build a nonprofit organisation and needs a girlfriend to get the money from his parents. Good thing for him that there's this new waitress Sage. Would she agree to a really crazy proposition?
Meet Fake by Abi Sabina is a wonderful love story about a fake relationship of two strangers, who become more than that after spending much time together. This book isn't just a cute and funny love story, it's so much more! Sage has to deal with lupus, which isn't that easy... and Tristan has to deal with his horrible parents. He's the rich hipster guy (but he wants to be independent!)... she's the poor and sick girl... But spending time together makes them realise that there's more in life. A disease doesn't have to control your life and if your parents are stupid, just do what's best for you. Life is too important! I really liked the chemistry between Sage and Tristan! The funny banter made me swoon a lot and I hoped for their HEA! This is my second book of Abi Sabina and I loved to read the story of Hudson's brother (Hudson is the main character of Meet Again #1) and how his story developed. This I was definitely in the right mood for kissing only and it was wonderful! Thank you so much for this story! It meant a lot to me!
I'm so sorry, but I could not get into this book! I think my biggest gripe with the book was the constant rehashing of thoughts/internal arguments from previous chapters coming up again as the same internal thoughts/arguments. I also felt no stakes for either of these characters. Sure, Sage is chronically ill and needs to pay her bills, but her parents were more than happy to help her, but she didn't want their help. (Also - the shaming of her taking money from Tristan to pretend to be his girlfriend was wildddd)
I wanted more action between the two main characters, but when I got it... it was just kind of bland (wise Sage bits happened too much, I'm sorry). The conflict at the end piqued my interest but overall felt contrived.
I was also not a fan of Tristan. His biggest goal in life is to start a nonprofit (which kind of sounded white savior-y) but then wants something completely different when he meets Sage. Sage needs more stability in her life than some guy who finds "purpose" very quickly.
I think I also got annoyed at his... "protectiveness" around her chronic illness. He was trying to police when she could drink and how much she could do. Girl... I think she knows her lupus better than you.
This book was so sweet, swoony, and had all the feels and angst I love in romance novels!! Sage is a strong women who has had life throw her curve balls and she is trying her best to make it work for her. I love that Sage’s character represents what life is like with Lupus. I have never read a book that has had a character with this type of disease and I think it was done so well. As I learned more about Sage it made me respect her character so much. Although her disease changed the way her life has played out it has not stolen her joy or quick wit. She is just so easy to love.
The love interest of the story is Tristan. He is exactly the type of leading man I love. He is a big teddy bear who doesn’t realize what he needs until he meets “the girl.” I love the fake dating, close proximity trope and this one plays out so well. In the beginning Tristan came across a little entitled to me, but by halfway through the book I was team Tristan all the way.
I defiantly suggest this book. It is perfect for a nice cozy read with a hot cup of coffee and a treat. I hope you love it as much as I did!
Meet Fake is sheer joy! Abi brings us back to Hartville, back to small town with Tristan and Sage’s story. What started as a spur of the moment decision grows into the start of something magical.
Life is tough enough, Sage has a uphill battle with her health, but when Tristan swoops in with an offer too good to be true. Without thinking too much about all that could happen, she agrees and the craziness of fighting your feelings begin.
This book is sassy with a bit of ache, Abi gives us all the feels of learning to love, learning to readjust your goals, and learning to love yourself. Sage will become your best book friend instantly, she is kind, selfless and her love of earrings is the best! Tristian is the perfect book boyfriend, try not to fall, he is a giver in the truest sense.
Meet Fake is just happiness. It’s gives us a true journey of two people falling, even in all its unconventionally.
This was my first read by Abi Sabina and I loved it! It was so so cute and it made me want to immediately go back and read the first book in the series. If you’re looking for a spicy read, this is not it. But if you’re looking for an incredibly sweet romcom with two incredibly selfless main characters who are mildly and hilariously in denial when it comes to their own feelings, this is your read. It has all of the fav tropes and even though I could see when the proverbial shoe was gonna drop, it didn’t ruin the story for me at all. I love the fun and easy banter between Tristan and Sage and how protective he is of Sage. It’s been a while since I’ve read a non-spicy book and was a bit weary when it was labeled as “closed door” because my worst nightmare are fades to black but Abi Sabina was able to write an incredibly fun, cute, and captivating read where I didn’t miss the spice at all.
Meet Fake is the sweetest story you'll find. Tristan is a cinnamon hero that will give you a sweet tooth. Sage is such a strong and amazing character. Since her diagnoses she has been putting living on hold, working, trying to make ends meet when it comes to helping her parents pay her medical bills. She hasn't been in a relationship since she became ill and her boyfriend dumped her because it was too much for him.
I felt that these two characters connected from the very beginning. Tristan never thought he'd settled down or be able to with his dream of running his own non-profit. Since meeting Sage, he is humming a different tune. She showed him that there is some much more to life than work and that settling down can be done, if you find the right person. And Tristan helped her see that she can be loved and that she is worth getting to know.
Tristan and Sage’s story is one that will have you swooning and falling in love with easily. Tristan needs his trust fund, but his parents feel he needs to show them he can be/handle a relationship. He recruits Sage to help him by being in a fake relationship with him so he can show his parents what they want to see, and Sage needs the money for her medical bills. This sweet romance is emotional, but the way Tristan is there for Sage and protective of her made me love him. Sage has an illness, so she thinks this fake relationship will be easy to navigate then move on, yet when feelings become involved things turn into more real quick. Can Tristan and Sage handle this fake dating with ease, or will this attraction become too much? This story was cute and fun to read while also pulling on your heartstrings.
First of all, I'm gonna be a little bit biased here 'cause I love everything Abi writes. I was so excited when she announced that this story was going to be Tristan's!
Honestly, this one has everything I love: fake dating, only one bed, real life problems...
Tristan, oh gosh, he's adorably-amazing! He loves to help people, he's a volunteer, he wants to open his own charitable organization, and he cares deeply about the well-being of his loved ones.
And Sage, she's so strong and brave. It's the first time I read a character with her disease, so this gave me the opportunity to learn more about it. She's such a loving person who, just as Tristan, takes care of her loved ones.
I really really loved it and now I can't wait to read Ellie's story next!
The chemistry between Sage and a Tristan was great and their interactions were so sweet. I love how committed Tristan was to Sage even after he found out (and witnessed first hand) what her chronic illness entails. It takes a special person not to cut and run when they know it’s a forever issue.
My only issue is that the storyline around Tristan’s parents and his trust fund didn’t really hook me. Typically for a book to be a 5 star read for me, there has to be a lot of sweet moments between the couple AND the surrounding storyline has to be interesting and keep my attention. I found myself wanting to skip over these parts, but overall a sweet read with a great connection between the couple.
Let me just say this first……Tristan is MY GUY! He has his dreams and aspirations, but he didn’t allow changes in circumstances to let that dream die off. Sage was amazing! Abi Sabina wrote this character who suffers from an invisible illness beautifully. The struggles we go through are not just physical, but they are emotional, mental, and psychological. The fact that she brought out the hardcore truth about one’s leaving because of not understanding or wanting to accept this “new normal” was genius. I’ve lost many friends that way and it does cause us to have that fear of getting close to someone again because that fear of rejection is so strong. Keep up the beautiful work Abi! I can’t wait to read what’s next from you!!
I loved how easy the relationship was between Tristan and Sage, even though it was supposed to be fake. I loved that Tristan was supportive, fun-loving, wanting to help the world, and charming. I loved that Sage was sweet, friendly, and had Tristan's back when it came to his family and career goals. Watching them fall was so cute. I loved that this was a clean story. It would have been a fun one not being so clean, but this worked well. I love the tale that dreams can change and evolve as we as people change and evolve and this book just shows that best laid plans don't always come exactly to fruition.
Meet Fake is the adorable story of what happens when you coerce your barista into playing your fake girlfriend in order to attain a trust fund from your toxic parents.
When feelings get mixed up in deals, the usual fake dating that turns into something more ensues with excessive sweetness (also known as the opposite of Tristan’s black coffee).
Happily ever afters, only one beds, friends to lovers, and naturally fake dating all found within one meet cute little package.
This is Abi’s second novel in the Meet Cute Series. Stand-alones that follow a group of friends in the same small town, Meet Fake is the story of Tristan and Sage.
Tristan is determined to receive the trust fund his manipulating parents set up for him but with a new set of conditions attached to the money, desperate times call for desperate measures.
Not looking to settle down in his home town (a new stipulation) Tristan, who is drawn to the new barista offers her 100k to pretend date him for a few months.
Lines get blurred, and dreams change.
Meet Fake is well written with the relatability of everyday life challenges and personal growth.
Oh this story had all the angst and a super cute story line. I love that they each had their own unique reasons for getting in a fake dating game. I usually wish for more with sweet romance but NOT Abi’s stories. She does an amazing job of giving me everything my heart desires even without all the spicy scenes.
Sage and Tristan are great protagonists. The plot is super weak and does not deliver. It's not comedic either. But it's clean, sweet, and grammatical - worth the KU read. I like the inclusion of the sickness. More books need to deal with the realities of a lingering condition that can't be cured.
