You can only run for so long …

Two years hasn’t erased the sting of betrayal and the shadow of the past, but Nikolai Alexandrov has finally found a way to live. Moscow, Russia, is the last place anyone would look for a rogue ex-CIA officer, and the members of Grace Baptist Church see beyond his past to the man he is now.

Molly Baird never wanted to be a missionary, but due to her father’s wishes, she lands in Moscow to aid her missionary cousin, Gabe Kelly. All is foreign in the massive city, though, rendering her unable to serve. Only the few English speakers in Grace Baptist’s congregation hold a trace of familiarity—including Nikolai, whose kindness she can’t deny.

Yet when a sniper’s bullet strikes far too close, Nikolai and Molly are thrown together in a desperate race against untold threats. When time runs out, will Nikolai and Molly be able to trust God with the past—and with the future?

I loved this book!!!! Eeek! Nikolai, man this boy stole my heart the moment I first met him Unworthy...I love him! And Molly was a dear! But let me try and organize my thoughts here...

Characters:
Nikolai was just...he's awesome! His struggle with his past and the horrors he had faced, it felt so real. I wanted to just hug him and keep him safe, poor guy. But his dedication to protecting Molly was beautiful!
Molly as mentioned was a dear! Her real fear of being in a place where she couldn't understand anyone and just everything she went through was sooooo good! I loved her!
Gregor is fun! I can't help but smile every time he comes on the scene because I know he's gonna add some humor. He's great and his arch...*wipes at eyes* BEAUTIFUL!!!
It was so good to see Gabe, Sophia, Daniil, Evgeny, Sasha, and just everyone again!!! They are all such great characters!

Plot:
This one was interesting because I wasn't really sure what was happening at first, you like what? It was really fun! The action was intense, and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.

Theme:
Trusting God in everything, especially with the future. Wow! That's a hard one but it was delivered so well! The conclusions the characters come to about letting God hold the future, whatever the future may hold, is beautiful! I loved it!

Romance:
The romance is slow and blossoming and beautiful! There is one kiss, the sweetest thing, he asked if he could!!! Eeeeeek!!! I loved that!!! It was so sweet and beautiful!!! And my heart!!!!!!!

Language:
N/A

Overall:
This was such a great suspenseful, amazing edition to the series!!! It was so good! Like I couldn't put it down! Really, it was amazing! I finished in like 2 days and just...wow!!! I love this series! Vanessa delivered another amazing read and I can't wait for her next book!!!! (So, intrigued by the concept....) I highly recommend this book! Like can't recommend this series enough!!! Great suspense, strong Christian values, and amazing characters!!!

5 stars. I honestly didn’t know what to expect of this book… and I was a little disappointed it was about characters I didn’t care about. (I forgot who Nick was). But as soon as I started reading, I was delighted how invested I became!

As usual, the Russian setting was cool, but even more so from the eyes of an American instead of a Russian or someone who had been there for long. I loved learning more about the church, people, and houses through Molly. She was such a nice girl, and I related so much to her in her fear mixed with her desire to work for the Lord… and her unworthiness. Nick was a good hero, although not my fav. And I was sooo excited and happy to see Gregor again!!! He is absolutely epiccc.

The plot was quite interesting, although a lot of it went over my head. I’m not into CIA & FBI and all that stuff, so I thought the KGB was another American association and that did not help my confusion. But it did make for a cool and unique plot—a spy running from both the CIA and the Russians. I did start to think the MCs got away with things a little too easily sometimes, but I enjoyed the storyline and it certainly kept me on my toes. The romance was pretty cute, too. I wasn’t a fan of how much time M & N spent alone together but they handled it well.

The theme was the best part. Choosing to trust God and let go of control… doing things in HIS strength instead of ours… it was woven so well yet differently in N & M’s lives and I loved it so much. It really spoke to me and it was so good. Overall, this was a solid romantic suspense and I look forwards to book 4!

Content: violence; some euphemisms; guy & girl spend a lot of time alone together but keep things pure even if someone hints or teases about them being together/doing stuff together.

A Favourite Quote: “...Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” ... Not by might. Not by power…. But by the Spirit. God’s Holy Spirit…. No wonder everything she’d tried to do ended in dismal failure.
Then I have to trust You better, Lord… But even my trust is weak. Everything about me is weak[.]
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus ...” The lilting melody wove slow, gentle, stilling the rush in her throat. Look to Jesus. Not herself. She hadn’t been saved by looking to herself; how was she supposed to serve by doing the opposite? … Nothing—not the looking, not the loving, not the serving… not even making the oatmeal—was based on her own power. But in God’s power, His might, by His Spirit within her.

A Favourite Humorous Quote: “I know what he can do.”
“What’s that?” …
“He does what he wants and gets away with it.”
Great guy to be captaining their only escape from Russia.

Disclosure: I received this book free from the publisher/author. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Characters: Such good characters! They each had their own distinct personalites and were so realistic. Poor Nick. Just poor, traumatized Nick. He wasn't a coward ... no matter what he thought. And Molly. I loved how much character growth she experienced. And she was great at chess :) Of course, I can't leave out Gregor, who added some hilarious moments. I was also glad to see all my old friends again ... Gabe, Sofia, Evgeny, Sasha, Daniil, and all the rest.

Language: Clean.

Moral/theme: Untold featured themes of missions, obedience, God's faithfulness, salvation, depending on God's strength, and trusting Him with the future and loved ones. I loved how the author pointed everything back to Jesus.

Plot: Sometimes, suspense novels can skimp a little on character development, but this book had both great character development and great suspense. Needless to say, I kept flipping electronic pages all the way to the end. And I need the fourth book now!

Romance: Clean. Just kissing.

Writing: Vanessa Hall's clear yet descriptive style worked so well for this book. I'm looking forward to reading the upcoming fourth book in this series!

Overall: Untold was an excellent, exciting read that I'd recommend to those who love Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

My poor heart. Vanessa Hall has done it yet again! She's given the world another epic, heartrending, suspenseful, truth-filled masterpiece that will make you both cry and laugh. To say I enjoyed it would be an understatement. Picking up from where Unworthy left off, this brand-new story follows Molly, a pianist from Tennessee, and Nick, an ex-CIA officer in Russia.

CHARACTERS

First off, I physically could not wipe that silly grin off my face when all the familiar beloved characters from the previous books popped up. I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW MUCH I HAD MISSED THEM! They really are like old friends. :) Gabe, Sofia, the adorable couple Evgeny and Sasha, Daniil, etc. They're all so distinct and lovable. A whole family I would read anything about just because I love them.

By the way, Evgeny from Unworthy is still my all-time favorite hero from the Grace Sufficient series. I took notes while reading the story to give me an outlet for ranting AND to help me write the review once I finished so that all my thoughts were fresh. And this was one of my notes: "I ALSO freaked out when MY DARLING EVGENY CAME ONTO THE SCENE!!!! I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

*coughs* See what I mean?

Molly. A pianist, very introverted, adorably awkward, sweet and compassionate, from Tennessee... what wasn't to love? I connected with her and found her fully relatable and beautifully conflicted (from a writer's perspective, mind you ;) ). In the fiction I read, heroines like her are underrepresented. Maybe it's because the quiet, rather reclusive characters aren't as prone to heartstopping, thrilling drama that fiery and outgoing characters produce. But you know what? Untold proved wrong the idea that quiet, slightly awkward characters can't kick butt. Molly's spiritual arc was also impeccable. So moving and impactful. She's just precious. <3

And going along with that, I LOOOOVED how prevalent her passion for piano was in the story, and how she even reacted to things by thinking of classical pieces that fit the mood. I think all musician readers will appreciate that. :D

Now for Nick. Can I give him a hug?!!!! I love him endlessly. He was so heartbreakingly tormented. The PTSD he struggled with felt painfully believable, and I know it was all too realistic how suddenly he was triggered by things that jolted him back to the traumatic memories at any moment of the day. It didn't define him, praise be - it's easy to have a mental disorder define characters, have it be the sole "unique" trait about them. But the amazing Vanessa Hall nailed it; his conflict wasn't forced at all. Nick's such a sweet, caring, average kind of guy in the best way possible. And I don't mean average as in boring. I mean average as in he seemed so real he could be someone from everyday life. (Tell me that makes sense!!!) It was heartaching how he was so desperate to hide his past from Molly, tried to pretend like everything was fine. All that is to say is, the darkness in his life made the subsequent light and healing he finds in God so much more satisfying and powerful.

And Gregor... Untold would not have been the same without this lovable, incorrigible guy. An unexpected friend of Nick's, he brings a different side out of Nick that just cracks me up. I'm not gonna give away any spoilers, but his arc was gold. (Maybe it felt a little rushed or sudden, but not when you consider the circumstances and the events leading up to his... *coughs* "aha" moment.) And Gregor's quips provided so much awesome comic relief! And I don't think he's even trying to be funny! (Wow, here I go again, thinking that the characters are real. 😂)

PLOT

I was hopelessly hooked from PAGE ONE. Oh my goodness. It was so showing and not telling, immersing me in the scene, giving little details that were just enough to paint a vivid picture, to make me feel the main characters' pains and desires. The whole plot was gripping (seriously; I was on the edge of my seat many times) and I was able to follow pretty much everything well. And the suspense! I can't even. And yet, even with all the drama and suspense, Vanessa Hall managed to make everything feel so realistic. Like, if the story was happening in real life (which, if it was, God bless the poor people involved), that's how it would happen.

ROMANCE

The sweetest slowburn romance you'll ever read. It positively melted me. I thought it pretty brilliant how we were introduced to Nick and Molly and yet they didn't meet until a little later on. The building suspense from waiting till they finally "meet" (if you read it, you'll know why I put that in air quotes *winks*) made the actual first interaction so rewarding and satisfying. I just love their whole dynamic. I love how real it felt. (Dude, that really is a theme through this whole review - how real everything felt!) No long, flowery, saccharine speeches and showy romantic gestures, just a real, gentle love between two people. Like, some of my favorite moments were (don't worry, no spoilers) when Nick just tried to be friendly, attempting to engage poor Molly in conversation. I don't know why that was so swoon-worthy, BUT IT WAS. Okay, I'll stop the *coughs* fangirl rambling, but just know I loved it and if you read it, I bet you will too! :D

WRITING STYLE

The prose is gorgeous and so subtle, if that makes any sense. I savored every word and couldn't help reading some passages slowly just because the writer in me admires it so much. But it's not overly flowery where the usual reader will be bogged down. Also, I absolutely love how for each POV it's in (Nick's and Molly's), the narrative is so immersed their thoughts, reactions, and memories. It's such beautiful deep POV.

And side note: I like how, since this was written in an American's POV, the Russian accents stood out more. That felt very realistic!

THEMES

As I expected, the themes in this hit hard. The main theme is perfectly summed up in the hymn "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus," which shows up frequently through Untold thanks to Nick and Molly's mutual love of it. God's grace is sufficient. Which is literally what the series is called - "Grace Sufficient" - and that's for a reason! This truth is beautifully and naturally demonstrated in the broken and flawed characters. Two other themes I have to mention was how true healing is found only in God, and the importance of following God's lead, no matter where He sends you or how impossible it seems. He will be with you through it all.

OVERALL

A beautiful, emotionally high-strung, and yet satisfying story, Untold is a novel I know I'll be rereading sometime! And I'm already dying to read Book 4 in the series! :D I'll just leave you here with a few of my favorite quotes from Untold.

FAVORITE QUOTES

The bench, chipped and a bit wobbly, creaked under her weight. But there were the same eighty-eight keys, unchanged by thousands of miles and harsh languages and impossible tasks.
_

A smile tugged at Molly’s lips. Romance novels were cute, but simple, everyday love was so much sweeter.

_

“Where is it?” Molly bit out the words, her arm vibrating under his touch.

Gregor parroted off an address as if it were his own name.

Useless in this huge city. “Where’s that?”

Gregor grinned. “I know.”

_

The familiar land rolled before him, covered in darkness, swathed in midnight, yet morning would uncloak beauty.

Yeah, it was pretty dark right now.

A shaky breath eased out.

But morning would come.

And just when I thought this series couldn't possibly get any better, Vanessa goes and releases Untold

Aaah I just LOOOVED this!!!! It's battling with the first book for my favorite in the series. I can't pick between one or the other. It's unfair to make me choose. XD Review to come tomorrow as in a link to my blog! Be prepared for a lotta fangirl squeals that will most likely not make any sense.

It’s nice to know I’m not the only author who mercilessly tortures her main hero. 😂 Not that the heroine gets off without some mental trauma too, but the heroes are the ones who always seem to end up the most battered… *is totally not guilty of this, nope, why are you looking at me like that*

I really enjoyed this book! This author writes suspense like no one’s business and is one of the very few suspense authors I have read whose books are ACTUALLY suspenseful to the point where I can’t put it down because everything is so tense and I’m never sure how things are going to go and what’s going to happen next! Though a few of the action scenes I did get a bit confused on what was going on and what was happening, but this could also be because I was reading it so fast, lol.

Molly and Nick are amazing characters with struggles and demons I sympathized and could relate to while also rooting for them to overcome them and grow closer to God and each other in the process. And Gregor! He’s the type of character I get delight from reading or writing about but would strangle in real life, LOL! He’s rude and snarky and extremely uncouth but I was glad to see him again, as he hasn’t been mentioned since book one, Unknown. And speaking of Unknown, Gabe and Sophie were in here quite a bit which I always love as I adore them! They’re my favorites and every scene with them was amazing. 🥰

If you love Christian romantic suspense with strong faith content and characters, I would HIGHLY recommend picking up this series! Can’t wait for the next book!

(A million thanks to Vanessa for letting me read her book!)

Wow! What a story! There were thrills, action, adventure, suspense, smiles, and tears. I was on the edge of my seat for almost the entire book. What a phenomenal read!

I had no idea what to expect from Vanessa Hall, but her use of words immediately brought me into the story. I was as overwhelmed as Molly was upon entering the country. I felt the bustle and crowds right along with her. I saw the drab, dreary landscape with her. I went through every scene, every building, each time she had to run. I was right there with her throughout.

I don't think I've ever used the word "gripping" in a book review before, but I am now. This story is gripping, and I did NOT want to put it down. I had never read any of Vanessa's books before, but now I have to go buy her others. I need the details from the previous two books. And there's a FOURTH one coming! You know I'll need that one, too! So go as fast as you can-you can buy right on Amazon. You do NOT want to miss this!

As soon as I was done with this book, I knew it was going to be a tricky one to rate, because it's such a mix—things I found excellent, and things that could have been done better.

In short, I'd give four stars for the romance plot, two stars for the suspense plot, three stars for the writing, another three for the characters, five for the editing. So you see—not easy—but I'll try.

First off, the "preaching" didn't feel as "preachy" as it often does in Christian novels. I think in this case the author's success came through strong characterization (unless your character is rock-solid real, he or she better not quote even one Bible verse) and not trying too hard to push a Christian agenda, instead letting it come naturally as the story allowed.

While decently written and exceptionally well-edited (if I'm not mistaken, this author edits her own work,) the frequent use of odd, even repellent descriptions for various physical sensations was distracting. Never once has my mouth watered because I was scared. Nor has electricity ever zipped up my legs—except that time I was using a poorly-grounded washing machine. But that's another story.

The development of Nick and Molly's relationship was thoughtfully portrayed. It was beautiful to watch two flawed, but likeable people draw strength from each other and from God as they eased closer. For different reasons, both characters were sensitive and cautious as they explored the possibility of becoming a couple, but the slow pace didn't feel like the torturous seesaw of indecision that some romance writers employ to artificially infuse their stories with tension.

Unfortunately, for a time that aspect of the story got a bit lost in all the mayhem, as Molly and Nick were pursued across Western Russia for reasons that, even after finishing the book, remain vague and unconvincing. (In real life, if Bad Guys are chasing you, nine times out of ten you know exactly why. And if they want something from you, they're going to choose the simplest, most direct way to get it, even if it's not the most dramatic.)

They way Molly often equated her feelings or environment with various musical pieces was fun, and a unique insight into her character. At first, the nightmarish quality of her introduction to Russia seemed a little over-the-top, (I wanted to pat her on the head and tell her, "It's really not that bad,") but it turned out to be a good early snapshot of her character, and set her up well for her growth from timid, inscecure girl to peaceful, confident young woman. However, I never understood why Molly's dad had to lie and say she wanted to be a missionary. Why couldn't he have come up with a less freighted reason for her to visit her cousin?

Nick's shame and self-loathing due to being almost constantly at the mercy of his flashbacks felt very relatable, and the scene where he realizes God has strength even for him is one of the best in the book. However, I was disappointed that no one suggested he see a counselor. Yes, God extends grace to us even in our weakest moments, but that grace sometimes comes through a skillful doctor, or even powerful medication. I felt like I was missing key bits of his story, but this is likely because I haven't read the previous two books in the series.

I enjoyed the side characters too, particularly Gregor's amiable cynicism. Both Molly and Nick tended to be very hard on themselves, and definitely on the melancholic end of the character spectrum, so Gregor's more levelheaded take on things helped to lighten the mood of the book considerably. I also appreciated that he got a deathbed conversion...without actually dying.

And there we have it. I think I'll give Untold an overall rating of 3.5

*I received an ecopy of this book from the author. This does not affect my review. This review is voluntary.*

I loved meeting Nikolai in Evgeny's story Unworthy, so when I realized the next one was his story, I might have cheered a bit! I love how each book in this series both serves as a stand alone (but I recommend reading them as a series and in order to get the most enjoyment) and how each happens a short time after the previous one (usually around 2 years later.)

By this one, we've gotten to know several of the members of Grace Baptist Church at this point, and I love getting those glimpses of how the MCs of previous books are now moving on and how their lives have changed since we last saw them, giving a sense of community that is sometimes overlooked in similar stories.

This one is special in a couple of ways, one is that both of the main characters are different from the others we've seen in the other stories. Molly is Gabe Kelly's cousin, yet until recently they have never actually met or spoken, and she is very much a Tennessee native, unlike Gabe who was raised in Russia. Seeing her challenges and the sheer culture shock was refreshing, as it makes her super relatable as someone also from the Tennessee area!

I also loved seeing how she was able to make the most of things, and over time find her own way in some pretty crazy circumstances. As someone who's life takes some sudden and unpredictable shifts, all without any chance to choose or consider her next step on her part, I loved seeing the positive message and hope she offers that sometimes those difficult times are God lining us up something better. Something that had we known the costs and struggles we might have missed altogether, but once it's over, we've never trade or give up for anything.

Nikolai's story is similar, and I loved the parallels and seeing him deal with his own struggles and concerns in this one, all while doing everything in his power to protect and honor Molly's freedom to choose, and her dignity among some pretty...questionable characters. I loved how this one also involved more traveling than the other books, giving a bit of a change of scenery and also introducing some interesting characters in passing. (I kinda loved 'Stalin shop guy!' XD)

Can we just make this a Gregor appreciation post while I'm at it? As crazy (and okay, slightly disturbing...at least when I realize he's my second favorite character, yet defiantly the most upstanding, lol! But then... my favorites usually aren't, they're more fun that way!)
I enjoyed meeting him before, and absolutely loved his part in Nick's story, and his banter with Molly (or when giving Nikolai a hard time...often about Molly, haha) were some of my favorite parts, and I literally laughed out loud a couple of times! (This is also true for 'Stalin's part, ahah)

So much excitement! I got so caught up in it! So so so so so so so good!!!! I loved Molly, but the twists and turns are sometimes annoying. 🤣 but they’re needed to be realistic. I just tend to have a less realistic view of books. 😶‍🌫️ 🫣

I couldn't put this book down. Completely immersive story which I really enjoyed reading. Like her first two books beautifully convicting, reminded me to trust in God alone and not to trust in my own strength which will fail me. Focused on things of eternal importance while still being fun to read. Shared the Gospel several times. Beautifully done, probably her best yet. Real Christian fiction, not merely clean. I would recommend this book to everyone! I was really excited to hear that there is a fourth book in the works!

Lots of things I loved about this book, and I did relate to the characters a bit, just less than the other MCs of the series. I think I liked the first two better, but I'd be more likely to reread this one than the 2nd sooner rather than later, so maybe it's my second favorite.

The suspense was very fast paced and emotion based, which made it a difficult combination to follow at times if you weren't super immersed in it and trying to imagine what was actually happening based on the character's emotional perspective you were getting. I think often it was so fast-paced and intense that the characters had trouble following what was going on and I think that rubbed off on the reader's view, which is either frustrating or means the author did a really good job getting you into the characters' POVs. Sometimes I just felt like it shouldn't take quite so much work to puzzle what the author meant by the assembly of the various sounds, sensations, and emotions a character was taking in and translate it to what was happening. The characters were definitely well-fleshed out, but sometimes the strange distant feeling of trying to interpret the description of a character's POV made the characters themselves feel distant or just consist of inward emotional descriptions rather than the reader getting a feel for them as a character or full person. Pretty much once it got started the ride did not slow down really at all.

I liked that it dealt with situations and premises that weren't necessarily expected or stereotypical for the genre but were both intriguing and familiar enough in real life to be relatable.

Overall it was an enjoyable read that was uplifting and kept me hooked but didn't shy away from hard possibilities and situations the characters had to face

This series has really held my attention, and each book builds on the previous one so well. I was very curious to learn more about Nikolai and his past experience with the CIA, and with mysterious gunshots following Molly everywhere, this book was a page-turner, for sure! This author has a gift for writing redemptive Christian fiction, so I was pleased to see that there'll be another book in the series. I recommend Untold for fans of New Adult and Women's Christian Fiction who love adrenaline, suspense, and stories with Scripture beautifully woven throughout.

Untold, book 3 in the Grace Sufficient series by Vanessa Hall, may be my favorite in the series. I loved that the main character Molly was from my beloved Tennessee. I loved the sweet arc of romance between her and Nikolai. And even more, I loved that when there seemed no clear answer, God showed them the way in the end. God’s path is always the best way. Bravo, Vanessa!! Great book!!

Another winner!
Characters….
Nikolai was introduced at the end of the last story. It was not much, but it was enough to where I wanted him to succeed—and find out exactly who this secretive person really was! Molly…she grew so much through the story. Initially—I’m not gonna lie—she was driving me crazy lol I love traveling so I didn’t relate to her there…but I connected with her on the piano points and also the growing in trusting the Lord not self. Everyone loves Gregor (just read the reviews 😂) and I understand why. And of course, I loved seeing many “friends” from previous books, though I missed some of them. ⭐️(Note to author: Daniil really deserves his own book!! Hint hint! You know your readers would love it 😂 Pray about it 😉 And I’m so glad to hear there’s another book coming in the series—definitely wasn’t ready to say goodbye!)

Story…❤️
As in the previous two books, Vanessa Hall covered some tough topics like PTSD, deception, and espionage. The plot was busy in the best kind of way—I had to make myself put it down! Lastly, I loved how the characters grew in their faith in the Lord. It was (as in the previous books) very genuine.

I’ll finish with this quote that I absolutely loved and have found true through some valleys and hard things in my own life:

“Each trial threw him into the Arms of Jesus. Tossed him, to be honest. And that was indeed the safest and strongest place of all. The Place he never would’ve fled to without affliction. The Help that was ever-present even when all hope seemed lost.“ ❤️❤️❤️

With a snappy beginning and interesting dynamics, Vanessa Hall’s Untold plunges its characters into terrible trouble. And it doesn’t let them go until they come forth once more, scarred and newly bruised but also gilded and strengthened in the fiery paint of pain.

I admired how Vanessa handled the rapidly growing cast of characters populating her storyworld. For example, it would have been lovely to see more of Evgeny and Sasha and how their relationship deepened since the conclusion of Unworthy., but it was a wise decision for the author to send them on their honeymoon for most of Untold. Throughout the story, I never felt like there were too many characters creating too many plot threads to juggle; it was a great balance!

Vanessa also introduces the characters well and chronicles their internal journeys effectively overall. With Nick, the conflict within him is immediately intriguing, giving a flicker of an idea of his past without info-dumping. Also, reading Nick’s thoughts was so compelling and heart-twisting. He continually berates himself for his current “weakness” in dealing with depression, trauma, and anxiety, and and he remembers his arrogance in thinking he’d never be one of “those people.” As I’ve been similarly humbled and convicted in being smacked with my own limitations, Nick’s internal struggle was painfully sharp and believable. It’s clear how the author’s heart aches for the suffering, and she strives to portray trauma in a faithful, properly nuanced way. Molly is also quite relatable. Like her, I dislike change and the thought of leaving the comforts of my home. And her desperate, quick prayers for the Lord’s help, even as self-pity batters her, feel organic. (A little quibble I had was that Molly’s default reaction is tearfulness. In Molly’s situation, I definitely think being on the verge of tears is sometimes very realistic. Other times, I think a detached disbelief or numbness could have been more believable!)

In many ways, Molly realistically matures. Stepping onto the page as an extremely timid, shaky, unhealthily-dependent girl, she grows into a young woman who is realistically still these things but is obviously more grounded and inching a bit more towards confidence. It's a lovely testament to how God works in and through His quiet children. <3

As in the previous books in the series, Unknown and Unworthy, I greatly appreciate how the author truly weaves faith into every facet of the book, rendering it a work of true Christian romantic fiction. It’s not one of those books where everything goes wrong for the female lead; the beleaguered heroine retreats to her bathroom where a Bible verse is cross-stitched on a towel; she whispers a single hiccuping prayer; and everything works out perfectly with her hot love interest and the adorable random children who are around there somewhere. No, like in the preceding two books, things don't resolve perfectly, with depression and injuries and self-doubt vanishing in the blink of an eye. The characters continue to grapple with the truths in God’s Word, wrestling with what it looks like to walk in them day by day amidst persecution in Russia. Things don't go perfectly for the characters, but their joy and trust grow firm through their adversities. It’s vital to be reminded of this as we walk with the Lord daily, and the author is clearly committed to weaving this reminder into her stories.

I did feel a little uncomfortable with the pace of the romance. Occasionally, also, I did feel a bit disconnected from the characters’ thoughts. I also felt a bit confused at how, after meeting Molly, Nick keeps calling her “humble,” but Molly is only extremely insecure and self-deprecating. Berating oneself isn't the same as humility, so I just had a harder time seeing the same things that Nick did. There are also some scattered sections in the narrative that didn’t make a ton of sense to me, that felt a bit contradictory, or that felt a little redundant.

However, by describing Molly, Gabe, Evgeny, Daniil, and all who are part of the Grace Baptist family, Vanessa does such a wonderful job showing how every Christian is vital in the body of Christ and in Christ’s mission work. People with mousy demeanors, people who are outgoing and bold, people who are a mix of the two...they're all powerful, valuable kingdom workers. (“[Molly] was the type who helped change the world with a smile, a hug, and a soft word of Jesus and His love.”)

Overall, also, the pacing of Untold is great! For the most part, the characters’ musings don't impede the storyline or grow so introspective that they lose readers. As a whole, Untold moves along at a decent clip, right from Molly’s arrival in Russia to the novel’s close, containing a decent amount of action per chapter to keep the plot moving and hook readers.

If you’re hungry for a character-driven, faith-saturated story, Untold is a worthwhile, engaging work of Christian romantic suspense fiction. Faith content is woven into every facet of the story, and the characters mature realistically. If you’re captivated by the idea of Russian missionaries, arm-wrestling clubs, frenetic chase scenes, desperate prayers, and undeniable grace, the Grace Sufficient novels may be perfect for you. And Untold is a well-paced addition to the series.

content: violence (mainly gun violence and recollections of torture). Lots of tight hugging and noticing. One non-descriptive kiss. Trigger warnings for depression/PTSD (though the author handles all sensitive subjects very tastefully).

*Many thanks to the author for sending me a digital copy of Untold in exchange for my honest review! A positive review was not required, and all thoughts are my own.*

I always enjoy getting to dive into another book by Vanessa Hall, and I was expecting pretty great things from her final installment in the Grace Sufficient series. Overall, I thought this one ended up being a pretty decent conclusion, and I appreciated the fact, as with every one of her titles, that it got me thinking about a lot of things, and especially, illustrated once again just how important it is to stand for Jesus in a world where it's becoming more difficult to do so by the day.

I think Untold ended up being my favorite of the series, as I found myself able to connect and sympathize with both Molly and Nikolia as characters, and they were without a doubt my favorite couple from the trilogy. Nothing comes easy to them, and I appreciated how it showcased what having "true" faith may look like in the middle of a battle. I thought their reactions to everything were authentic and understandable, and I found myself not wanting to put the book down as I was too intrigued to not know what was going to happen next. I was rooting for them throughout each and every one of the challenges they faced, and I loved getting to watch their faith deepen in the process.

I also can't move on from the characters without discussing how much I adore Gregor. He was my favorite from the entire trilogy, and I loved how he got to play a much bigger part of the story throughout this entire title.

Perhaps my favorite part of reading any book by this author is that she actually writes "Christian" fiction. These aren't merely books where faith is hinted at just to be able to categorize it under that heading. Instead, these are books where faith and Jesus are at the front and center of every decision the characters make, and every desire they have as to what they want to do with their lives. It's a refreshing change, and is something I'd love to see more of in the Christian fiction industry.

I will say that I often struggle with reading books by this author as while I do love the story overall, the suspense bits are extreme and dealing with a lot of dark content, and they often leave me struggling and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the many issues tackled within. I would recommend that if you're like me and tend to take to heart most things you read, then maybe plan to give yourself a bit of time to work through this one, so that you can enjoy everything the wonderful story has to offer, without getting overwhelmed in the process.

Overall, this was a pretty good conclusion to the Grace Sufficient trilogy, and one that I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys hard hitting Christian suspense. I would personally not recommend reading it without having read the first two books though, as I feel you'd be missing out on a lot of the background info.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much to Vanessa Hall for allowing me to read and review this one!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this novel from the author (Vanessa Hall). I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.

A great addition to the series, Untold is full of suspense that will have you turning pages.

I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. There's no shortage of action, but it was the moments Molly and Nicholai had to dig deep inside themselves that had me engrossed in the book.

The romance is well-developed, and the spiritual elements will give readers plenty of food for thought.

Though you can read it as a standalone, I recommend reading the other two books first, especially since Nicholai is introduced in Unworthy.

Nikolai is used to the uncertainties and nightmares that have plagued him ever since his attempt to straighten out problems in the CIA went badly pear-shaped - but when his friends end up in danger, possibly because of him, it's a completely different story. When Molly's father shipped her off to Russia to visit her cousin Gabe as a missionary for a few weeks, she never expected to find herself falling for the people and reluctant to leave when danger threatened. But when a sniper's bullet comes far too close, it's time for Nikolai and Molly to escape - if they can... In the end, only God's grace can truly save them - but will they be willing to rely on it?

This was definitely hard to put down! I've enjoyed each book in the series so far, and this was no exception. With plenty of action, as much romance as you can fit amidst trying to stay alive and find out who wants you dead and why, and an inspiring message of hope, it's a great story. The characters each have things to overcome (particularly Nikolai), and watching them turn to God in the hard times is inspiring. Add in a satisfying ending, and it's a book to read and an author to follow. I hear that the trilogy has a fourth book coming, and I'm eager to read it! Recommended.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

Fantastic. Amazing. Unbelievable. The first two books were already good, and this one is incredible.

That was quite good.

Vanessa Hall's series of Russian suspense novels has been a refreshing read. All three books have been quality stories with powerful messages and impeccable writing, but this latest installment takes the whole series by storm. I read it when I ought to have been sleeping. I thought about it when I should have been working. It was intense, sweet, and exactly what I was hoping for.

Characters: Molly is deeply relatable. Her struggle with settling into this new missionary role in a country she doesn't even like resonated with me, and I loved watching her grow past that and be able to embrace what God has in mind for her--even if it takes some intense situations to get her there!
Nick is the absolute sweetest. My heart hurt for him and the trauma he has to deal with, especially for how much he despises himself over it. He felt so real, especially the honesty of his faith journey.
And Gregor is back! He was a favorite from the first book, and he never fails to summon a chuckle whenever he shows up on the page.

Content: There's one kiss, not detailed and so very sweet.
Due to strenuous circumstances, a woman has to share a ship's cabin with two men. They all keep their distance, though, and nobody's terribly thrilled about the situation. A man implies that he wants to sleep with a woman (and gets punched in the face for it).
There's a good deal of shooting and injuries, but nothing's graphic. It can get quite intense, though. A character has PTSD from torture he experienced.

Writing: This book is well-written, keeping me not only interested but completely captivated from beginning to end. The big plot twist is foreshadowed well, such that I kind of saw it coming but was still stunned when it did. The pacing is perfectly executed, and the character development is amazing.

Summary: This is definitely my favorite of the series. It does depart a bit from the feel of the first two books, given that both of the characters are (technically) Americans and that it focuses more on the external conflict than an internal faith struggle. But I was totally invested from page one, in love with the characters and eager to see how their story played out. I highly recommend this to suspense fans aged 14+!

Admittedly, this one took me the longest to get through in the series (not really sure why?) but once it took off, it was action-packed as Nick & Molly remained pursued for most of the story.
Nick’s renegade way of life complimented Molly’s timid outlook very well & their relationship added a lot to the thrill ride. Having Gregor along for this story added so much to it as well.
By the end of this one, I was excited to see a Christmas special waiting for me next. Haha
