Georgia wants a fresh start, and that doesn't include the handsome cowboy from her past. But Sebastian is in town now, and he has no intention of leaving until he gets what he wants...
My high school sweetheart kissed me so naturally, I slapped him.
Listen, I’m forty-three years old. I’m divorced. I’m in a new town. I don’t need ghosts from the past haunting me anymore.
Unless, of course, the ghost happens to be two hundred pounds of hunky Texan cowboy, wearing a coy smirk and a deep golden tan.
And when he shows up at the door of my new business telling me he’s the contractor I hired, I think I might be in more trouble than I anticipated.
Because it started with a kiss…but it’ll end with a heartbreak. I know, because it’s happened once before.
But twenty-five years after the first time, it looks like I need to learn my lesson all over again. I’m going to get Sebastian Finch out of my system once and for all…
Lilian Monroe lives in a luxurious jungle treehouse surrounded by lush greenery, with an army of scantily-clad men with rippling abdominal muscles ready to attend to her every need.
No, wait. That's not true.
Lilian Monroe spends her days dangling her feet into her pool, while a scantily-clad pool boy with rippling abdominal muscles feeds her chocolate-covered strawberries and massages her back.
Okay, okay. You got me. That's not true, either. Let's try again.
Lilian Monroe lives at home with her two children, three dogs, and twelve chickens. Her husband likes to work shirtless in the back yard. His sweaty, gleaming abdominal muscles ripple with every movement and he—
I'm sorry. I have to stop. Fine, I'll admit it. That one isn't true either.
How about this: Lilian Monroe loves thinking about men with rippling abdominal muscles serving her hand and foot, and she wants you to think about them too! She is an avid reader, writer, and lover of all things romance.
She loves everything from bad boys to billionaires. Her books are packed with sizzling-hot heat, action, suspense, and everything from second chances to single dads. She hates cheating and loves a good happily ever after (and rippling abs).
Ugh! Soo conflicted with this one!! 3.5 stars. I liked this, but I didn't.
Alright- this is labeled as a rom-com, but I didn't find it funny. That’s #1. #2..The connection between Sebastian and Georgia is hot, sad, steamy, complicated and relatable. I vacilated between happy and frustrated with them throughout the read. His growly Alpha tendencies is fun, but her need to be an "independent" woman was annoying. I loved the second chance that these two characters have to secure their HEA. #3..Additionally, the guys trying to weasel their way into Georgia's space was only entertaining because of Sebastian. And, I didn't understand why we needed Mia and Trina's chapters other than to set up future books.
I really enjoy most in this series, and reads from this author. Her stories are easy to read and enjoy. I wish I liked this one more than I did. I do recommend this author and her numerous works as they are entertaining and engaging. Even though I personally wanted more from this book, this one was okay, and I look forward to the next book from this author. ❤
I received a free ARC, and voluntarily leave my review.
I’ll start by saying I like this author, and the writing itself is well done…. ::sigh::
I started this series with Nora and Lee’s story in book 7. Loved Lee, Nora was pretty annoying at times, but it was enjoyable overall. I went back to start the series at the beginning, and realized if I had started there I would not have read any more of the series. By the end I wished Fiona had cut things off with Grant as he became an abusive d bag. Don’t leave a toxic relationship and jump into another one! As I’ve read a couple more books in the series, I’ve discovered he pattern that some of the characters are unbelievable jerks at times and for some reason the other characters just let them get away with it. It’s beyond frustrating. At its core this series is about middle-aged adults that have had failed relationships, and wind up with their HEA after starting over. I love the “girl gang”support these women have, holding each other up and fixing each other’s crowns. Unfortunately over and over it seems the women have not really learned a lot with their age. After escaping a toxic first marriage, there should be zero chance of any of these women accepting any man speaking down or being nasty to them. And yet, it keeps happening over and over. But because there is “chemistry “ it excuses everything 🙄🙄 we see it with the main characters in each book, and because the POV changes to that of some side characters, we get to see it play out the same for them as well. Sebastian said some pretty cruel things to Georgia early on, yet as soon as he grabs her and kisses her she lets it all go, because… chemistry. No need to hash it out or grovel, just bang it out. In fact, they never even really communicate. Just fight, kiss, hook up.. wash, rinse, repeat. She never even knew he had a daughter (that he created just about 30 seconds after they broke up at age 18) until said daughter showed up unexpectedly! How is that possible? There just didn’t seem to be a lot of adulting going on. We are to believe that this is a successful business woman who left a tiny town to venture out and create her own empire making her millions, yet she cannot communicate at more than a junior high level with the love of her life? And while Sebastian was a jerk at times, he’s not at all a bad guy. In fact, thanks to his never ending internal monologue where he berates himself for his choices and actions, and drones on about how worthless he is and how much more Georgia deserves, we see that he’s not the pushy jerk he comes across at times. He’s apparently just emotionally stunted at his teenage years. I skimmed a lot starting in the middle because it was just relentless. And by the end, it was Georgia I didn’t like. Good lord, woman. Get it together. You are too old to be jumping to conclusions and throwing temper tantrums! She’s reverted back to her childhood self apparently, and learned nothing. So. Frustrating.
There are good parts, to be sure. And the storyline premise is great. I just wish a story about “midlife drama” felt less like a high school series.
Georgia Neves and Sebastian Finch were high school sweethearts in small town Texas. She left for college and a better life after turning down his marriage proposal, because she had bigger dreams and he seemed stuck in the small town country life of a cowboy. She makes her millions, gets divorced, and ends up settling in Heart's Cove, on the Pacific coast. He knocks up another girl shortly after Georgia leaves town, marries and divorces her, and becomes an artist - a good albeit poor sculptor. They meet again 25 years later at an arts festival in Heart's Cove, where Sebastian was invited to display his wares. He realizes he still loves her, but is somewhat of an overbearing caveman, and feels unworthy of her. They both suffer a few misunderstandings and misapprehensions, but finally get their HEA. This is a good story and I recommend reading it, but I'll admit that I've liked other of Lilian's books better. There was a lot of drama and not many funny parts. The main characters were very relatable and the bevy of girlfriends that Georgia is surrounded with are always great fun. She is one of my favorite authors. I received an ARC and am leaving my unbiased review.
I just have something in common with Georgia. I didn’t know possessive could be so hot until Sebastian! What a fun 2nd chance romance between these two. And, as usual, the Four Cups Crew was an absolute riot! Loved every page.
3.5 Stars Dirty Little Midlife Drama Book #8 Sebastian and Georgia Couple in their 40’s, small town, second chance, high school sweethearts.
Parts of this book I loved, others I struggled with.
Georgia has come to the small coastal town of Hearts Cove after her divorce. She’s sold her share of her very successful business to her partner. Now she’s in a new town, new house, riding around on her new red scooter, happy. For the most part. She’s not the type who can lounge around all day. She needs a project. What she doesn’t need, is her high school boyfriend showing up in her town to display his art at the local festival. Sebastian is also newly divorced. But unlike Georgia, he came up on the short end of his. He’s hoping to use this festival and the write up he’s getting as a jump for his sculptures. The last person he expects to see is Georgia. The last time they were together they were eighteen and he had just asked her to marry him. She turned around and walked away from him. Needless to say neither is happy to see the other. But they can make it work for a short time. Old feelings are still their, buried under a lot of hurt and resentment. When he’s hired by Grant to help renovate her new project space, they spend a lot of time together. And those feelings jump to the front. And they end up spending a lot of time in the bed, but not so much time actually talking. For the most part I loved Sebastian. He was a hot, protective cowboy. Lots of growling his feelings. He’s a decent man, and a good dad to his adult daughter. But he can take his caveman ways to the extreme. Very jealous, and quick to temper. Georgia I struggled with. She was a good sister, and a good friend. But at times she came across as entitled and surprisingly immature. She gets angry at Seb for not sharing but at the same time she never asks him anything about himself. She didn’t even know he had a daughter. I just didn’t care for her. It’s frustrating to keep reading these books about older couples who act like teenagers. Pouting, stomping off, throwing fits, assuming they know instead of asking. It’s like high school drama. Overall it’s not a bad story, just parts drove me crazy. I missed seeing all of the side characters. They were there in small bits but I wanted more. You get multiple points of view. No cheating. And they do have one little temper tantrum to work through before they get their happy ending. I would recommend reading this series in order.
POV: You’re GOOD at what you do and have more money than you know what to do with. Your POS husband traded you in for a ‘younger model’ a while before actually splitting. It's time for some major changes, so you up and move to Heart’s Cove! (I wish I could live here.) (Only to discover your high school sweetheart lives there too … )
Written in alternating, first-person POV.
I’ve been loving every minute of this series—Monroe’s books are always a good time. Lots of positive feminine energy, second chances everywhere, no judgement, accepting friendships, etc. Good stuff—this one’s no exception. I hope she keeps writing these!
I enjoy the dynamic between the ‘girls club / circle of friends’ group in this series, here’s the sort-of vibe it is, (though when she says ‘gossip’ she means the real-life details of her smex life, and they aren’t catty—don’t get it twisted). “These women extract gossip like they work for the CIA, Sebastian—it’s no joke!”
💚 Second-chance romance. 🎨 Life after divorce. 💚 Later-in-life / over 40 romance. 🎨 Small town. 💚 Fresh starts. 🎨 She’s the millionaire. 💚 Circle of friends—ever-expanding. 🎨 Art everywhere! 💚 Extortion. 🎨 Misunderstanding based on assumptions. 💚 FMC who puts herself first. 🎨 Sp4nking. 💚 Slight other-man drama. Low-key / one-sided though.
Overall: This series is just classic, always fun to escape into and this edition was no exception—4 stars.
🎧 Audio: Decent audio production, both narrators were good and overall sound quality is flawless. 4 stars.
“If you don’t shove your c*ck inside me in the next 3 seconds, I’m going to slap you.”
After her divorce Georgia has relocated to the small town of Heart’s Cove in California. She wasn’t really expecting it since most women are fake and jealous of her ambition and wealth, but the women of this town have been accepting and encouraging. The last person she wants to see after her terrible divorce is her high school sweetheart whom she left in the small town of Clare Texas. She is trying for a new start, and she doesn’t need old bad memories popping up.
Sebastian is an artist who after his ex-wife raked him of the coals in their divorce is just looking for a place to belong. He can’t help himself when he sees the only woman he has ever loved and plants a hot stopping scorching kiss on her beautiful lips. He is growly and overbearing but he is not taking no for an answer this time when it comes to keeping Georgia forever. He just needs to prove he is worth it.
It isn’t as if I didn’t like this book, it just wasn’t as good as some of the other stories from this series. Georgia kind of irritated me with her attitude. Maybe a little to unnecessarily dramatic.
It always throws me a bit, since I am doing this series as audiobooks, and when a completely different side character has a chapter of their own it throws me off BUT I do like that it sets up the story for another book in the series. I am very excited for Mia & Des’s story since I usually enjoy a single parent storyline.
Alpha MMC Older MMC/Older FMC Second change romance Small town romance Not a romcom! Drama and angst
Georgia and Sebastian are... great. Chemistry off the charts. Lots of fighting and make up sex. Not a lot of communicating.
Georgia settles in Heart's Cove after a nasty divorce to heal. She just begins to find her girl squad. Enter Sebastian, her first love from a small town in Texas.
Sparks fly. Clothes are ribbed and strewn. Drama. It's in the title.
This is not a romcom. It's not funny and it's missing a lot of the girl power that made the first 5 books heartfelt. Sure, we have glimpses of it, and there's new characters like Mia, but there's no a lot of amazing food and only a few spots where the girls are all together. There is a puppy, though.
Seb is a bit of an alpha dick head. He's got this whole, "I'm not good enough" thing going on. And there's one misunderstanding after another and the two of them just don't stop screwing enough to actually communicate. It's frustrating. I get it, but it's frustrating.
Overall, the men in this book seem predatory - not Seb, and not Matt, but Des and Cameron are just totally douchey. Left me with a bad feeling.
3.5 stars.
Future Stacey: go ahead and re-read. It's well written, though not my favorite of the series. Don't expect a lot of laughs.
Georgia’s character got on my nerves. She’s supposed to be this smart intelligent woman.. yet she was dumb the entire book. I get they were young the first time, but how did she assume all that? She fails to communicate the entire book. This man oozes love for her. She let her sister be rude to him. She never once asked him about his childhood or if he wants to go home. She assumes the worse when he hit Cameron. On one hand I thought she was incredible sister and friend. On the other hand I thought Sebastian deserved better. Most of things she got mad about was assumptions and lack of just asking. If a man was devoted to a place he be miserable. I love this relationship at times, but Georgia needs to grow up a bit mentally. I know I’m supposed to be on her side, but I found her unlikeable for half the book. I don’t think I could be as forgiving as he was after the proposal. I think I made her sweat a bit and apologized. He was within character though and loved her intensely. I think his love is what made me forgive her lack of honesty and communication.
I get such a kick out of these women and how they embrace each other, I can’t help but love this series. I have seen some people be unhappy with some of the interactions with these two long lost love birds, but I just give it poetic license and do kind of remember bad communications in my own life that caused stupid problems. So I just don’t mind it. I kind of get the difficult balance in trying to write a good, strong character, and not muddle the execution for at least some readers. A strong Man, who is Alpha, but not controlling. A strong woman, who is successful but still a woman. I do wish that these women don’t always seem to have lost so much to a crappy ex, especially if she was successful when she got married…Pre-nup anyone? But I just love a series without 20 year olds, and with redemption, and I also love a story that heals the hurts of characters. I just feel all romance novels have to give some lever of poetic license, and am always willing with Lilian Monroe’s fun stories. Enjoy!!
Both Georgia and Sebastian are starting over when the one who got away re-enters their life. You’d think that because these two are made for one another that things would be easy, but it isn’t. She does her best to avoid him, Sebastian has the wrong idea about her and offends her and when he is set up to repeat the mistakes of the past you wonder if he will ever learn. Luckily, he does and goes to fight for the woman he has always known was his.
Georgia was a sweet and kind character with a hardness to her that she she’s gained from the life she has lived. Sebastian was charming, protective, and possessive. But both these characters were stubborn, and they could certainly give each other a hard time. I really enjoyed seeing them fall back in love, but I’m not sure they were ever out of love, and I couldn’t get enough of their story.
It was also great to see more of the couple from the previous books, and I love the friendship between all the girls. I’m really enjoying this series and look forward to the next one.
Since the very first Midlife novel, I have laughed myself to tears, been left feeling full of joy, and am completely addicted to this series. Each novel gets better, there is not a favorite for me, just thrilled they are continuing on... I loved Georgia and Sebastian's novel. One rather uptight woman who seemingly is waiting for old age, and perhaps "catladyhood", who meets up again with her first love. Large, brash, Texan, and the featured artist in the yearly festival. From the moment Sebastian sees Georgia again, the only love of his life, brash comes into play. Along with brash, kisses, and Georgia's fast retreat. But the "Cups" ladies, led by Simone of course, immediately jump into all that is Georgia's life, and so begins the crazy. The crazy and antics these novels are known for and never disappoint! I loved it! Next please! These are a joy to read, and keep me laughing and smiling!
Georgia moves to Hearts Cove to start over. Her rough divorce has been hard. lol She’s a very focused and driven individual. She made a success of herself, but now she’s wondering what’s next. Then her high school sweetheart walks into town and it brings up all those teenage fears. Sebastian has regretted letting Georgia walk away for more the 25 years. A failed marriage of his own has him feeling like trusting another woman might be a mistake. He wants to walk away but he can’t do it. Georgia is the one who got away. He needs to get his insecurities under control and convince Georgia that he should get another chance. Georgia isn’t so sure the straight shooting, overly possessive, dirty talking, alpha cowboy has changed. And, She’s afraid she’ll lose herself again. Shes fiercely independent and determined to live her life to the fullest. But, can she do that with Sebastian?
The excitement of being back in Hearts Cove! I love this series and each book just drags me further and further in. The banter between the women, their friendship, I so want to be a part of this.
Enter Georgia and Sebastian. We met them both in Dirty Little Midlife Dilemma. Now it’s there turn, so hold onto your hats, the Texan is in town! Sebastian is a sculpture and we are only just finding out Georgia is a self made woman (she’s minted). These two have a past! 25 years earlier! This is a great second chance romance, 25 years on! Does Ms Monroe make it easy for them….hell no! Where would the fun in that be! Hold onto your hats, their relationship is a wild ride.
Great cameos from previous characters, all my favourites made an appearance. I just love this series. Middle age rocks in Hearts Cove
I didn't really like Georgia. She was surprisingly immature for someone who was supposed to be so accomplished.
Sebastian's negative self talk, while 100% realistic, was just not something I wanted to read.
Their relationship was purely sex (I mean, she didn't even know he had a daughter!), and the chemistry was just not there, in my opinion. We are told they were high school sweethearts and then they jump right into a sexual relationship once meeting up again. There is no substance to their relationship.
I found myself more interested in what Mia and Des were doing, so I guess I will read their book now.
And how did so many middle-aged, hot, single people end up in Heart's Cove, y'all? I can't keep them all straight even though I have read all of the books.
I like this, but I didn’t like it at the same time. I don’t know how else to put it. There are some ginormous jerks in this series for particularly in this book.
I am a fan of the cave-mantic storylines normally, however, Sebastian really grinds my gears.
Well, there wasn’t a lot of comedy in this, one of my favourite things about this series is the Strong female friendships and support circle, the lack of judgement within it, and the honesty that shared between them . It’s one of the things that keeps me coming back even when there’s characters that drive me crazy. Again that’s not a dig but a testament to how strong the writing is to make me feel that.
I do have some unanswered questions that I don’t think I’m gonna get the answers too. Christine said about being 18, so is that the ex-wife, or is it somebody else?
Wow!!! three times wow!!! what a book!! I loved it. I cried more than once and when it happens, it says a lot about a book. When the writer can share the character´s feelings in a way that we, as readers, can feel their pain, love, fears, and tons of emotions. Georgia and Seb were sweethearts and life took them apart. They found others partners. They got married and divorced and fate had plans. After twenty-five years, their lives collide in a small town, full of amazing people and a lot of gossip. Georgia is a successful woman looking for a new beginning. Sebastian is trying to keep pieces of his life together after a divorce that took everything of him. Life threw him a curve ball and he was handling his professional and personal failures The mistakes of their past will gonna haunted them. It´s not about a new beginning, but a second chance. And sometimes you have to fight for that because nothing is easy when you love someone, but you are stuck to your past Heart´s Cove series touched my heart since the first book that I read. The environment, the town, the characters, all of them mixed make me feel so involved in the story that is like I am drinking a coffee and eating a caramel salt cookie at Four Cups Cafe. It´s magical. Lilian Monroe has this power, to write in a way that you are are part of the story. A must read. More than five stars.
This book is phenomenal! The next in the saga of the little town of Heart’s Cove and it’s Georgia’s turn. A man from her past comes from Texas and it’s one wild ride from beginning to end! Sebastian is in town for the Fringe Festival and will see his high school sweetheart, Georgia. A kiss and a slap later and it’s game on! The two have quite the bumpy road ahead of them but I love the way the story develops! There’s lots of old friends throughout the tale and we add a newcomer that will add an interesting dynamic! With great friends, a wonderful love story 25 years in the making and one adorable puppy, this book is a definite must read!
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
This is book eight in the Heart's Cove Hotties series. You can read it as a standalone but it is connected to the other books in the series. Sebastian is an artist, a little rough around the edges cowboy from a small town in Texas. Georgia is a high powered CEO, she's moved to Hearts Cove to start over again. She's completely shocked when Sebastian shows up in Hearts Cove. They haven't seen each other since they broke up twenty five years ago but the feelings they have for each other start to resurface. Steamy with plenty of laugher, its always fun to see the other residents of Hearts Cove. I love the bonds of friendship these women have. I can't wait to read Mia's story! I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
So I've thoroughly enjoyed this whole series but let me tell you the thing that I hated about this one book. Sebastion and Georgia are high school sweethearts so in love that he proposes. She declines because she has dreams bigger than their small town. Fast forward 25 years later and they reconnect. Now here's the part that gets me for a man that was so in love he sure didn't wait long as in no wait to get with someone else because he has a 24 year old daughter. Which means he instantly got with someone else. I hate that in books where the male protagonist is all I love you and you are the love of my life but has zero problem hooking up left and right with others. Meanwhile if the female protagonist even gets with anyone else it's a miracle.

Enjoyed reading the love story of Sebastian and Georgia which was decades late. They were young teenagers when they first fell in love but wanted separate things from their lives. He wanted to make something of his homestead and she wanted to do more than what their small town offered. They spilt and lived their lives much different than they imagined. One not quite so good, the other real good but neither were happy. They certainly had their ups and downs and misunderstandings. It's a good book. I'm excited and sad to go to the next because it's last book in the series... I have to read it though. Written by Cindy :)
I’d like to purchase a one way ticket to Heart’s Cove, please!
They say everything is bigger in Texas and I’m going to have to agree with that, if Sebastian is anything to go by. BUT when that big, scruffy, cowboy hat wearing bad boy moves to Hearts Cove, he becomes irresistible! I couldn’t get enough of Seb and Georgia. Watching the two of them work their way around their past and the feelings they both had for each other made this the unputdownable, second chance romance that it is!
I’m giving 𝗗𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗬 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗗𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗔 the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
The town of Heart’s Cove, filled with midlife women, is getting pretty big! This book, as well as others in the series, was enjoyable and underscores the value of females supporting females. They are generally low-angst and kind of predictable but the characters and their backstories are interesting. The male and female main characters in this book were likable and I liked the spin of the female being successful and wealthy. An enjoyable lighthearted book.
Holy steamy romance, Batman! This one is H.O.T. Lilian did a good job dissecting the aspects of men's anger versus women's hysterics and all the misogyny that goes along with pushing back against successful women. A little bit of dominance in this story, but in the end, Sebastian acknowledges "You know I love you, right? The things we do in the bedroom ... it's only for us. It's just play." Why did that melt my heart???
Also, repeated consent!!! I Love This Angle - it's so necessary!!! ::swoon::
I was looking forward to reading Georgia and Sebastian's story but was disappointed in the way it was done. When we met Sebastian in earlier books in the series, he was a confident, successful, well-known artist/sculptor, but once again his personality was changed to fit the narrative, and we see him now as a whiny, angry man stuck in the past. I'd had hopes that he and Georgia would get to know and fall in love with one another as the successful people they are today, instead of the tired trope of still being in love with who they were as teenagers.
Dirty Little Midlife Drama Lilian Monroe HeartCove has stolen another section of my heart. Sebastian and Georgia have a 25 year old history that’s left them both hurting. After they broke up each went on to live a life that left them alone and questioning themselves and whether they we worthy of love. Finding each other again reignites what they had, good and bad, and after much introspection they discover they were always meant to be. Now onto Des & Mia. I love Heartcove!!!
Wow.... loved it!!! I received an ARC copy of this book via the author and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. I'm loving the Heart's Cove series, these characters are awesome. Absolutely loved Sebastian and Georgia's story, twenty five years later will Georgia give Sebastian another chance, or will history repeat itself? Brilliant storyline, fantastic characters and absolutely loved the HEA. Looking forward to Mia's story and I so hope you Piper (Georgia's sister) gets her own story too.
What a beautiful love story! It had everything you would want. And more. They were childhood sweethearts. But when they meet again and sparks fly, they realize that the feelings they had never died. Can he get over the facts that she turned him down the first time he proposed and can she soften her heart to let love in again. Amazing characters and just a beautiful book. Great job, author! You rock!!!
I always enjoyed a visit to Heart's Cove, with all its unique characters and zany conversations! Humor and heat make this an entertaining story. Georgia is a rich divorcee that's looking for something but doesn't know it, she especially isn't expecting to come face to face with her high school sweetheart let alone lock lips with him. Sebastian has never forgotten Georgia and seeing her again just fires those sparks! Real fun read.
