The war between the Pest Control and Necro-Beast Guilds has begun, and Keith is right in the thick of it.
Having received his quest from Marj, Keith sets off toward Umber City to investigate Cane, a dangerous member of the Necro-Beast Guild. Help is already waiting for him in the form of the Royal Guild, who has pledged to help in the extermination of the Dark Guilds plaguing the continent. Though all seems well at first, Keith soon finds himself bogged down in quests, assassination plots, and back-alley lowlives, not to mention the conspiracy by one of the greatest citizens in all of Humania.
Keith will need to work harder than ever if he wants to survive to complete the Trickster's quest. With Bob at his side and amazing new gear from his battle with the Raid Boss, Sola, he's better equipped than ever, but his enemies aren't just going to roll over and die.
It's a good thing Keith is so experienced at killing...
We Hunt Monsters is a LitRPG series in a fantasy world. This book contains multiple stat sheets, item descriptions, epic quests and loads of monsters.
Its good enough to read and I will be reading the sequel. However, it isnt exceptional. Some effort seems to have been made to make the main character intelligent, but this effort fails due to the complete simplicity of the authors attempts. The events work themselves around as if what the main character did was intelligent, but if you put any thought into it beyond what the story explicitly says, you will find it far less so. Its not so bad that I couldnt read it - as I said, I plan to read the sequel - but it certainly reduced my enjoyment considerably, forcing me to stretch my suspension of disbelief more than some may be willing to do.
Past that it isn't a particularly unique story. Its competent enough when it isn't trying to make the protagonist seem like a tactical genius.
To be clear, though, part of the reason I have no problem with the time I am wasting on it is simply that I spend a lot of time reading. If you don't, and thus must be more selective in your reading choice, I would give this one a pass. Barring that I would put it on the backburner for better reads.
Have had this sitting in my TBR for a while and have been waiting for the right time to get into it. The right time was now, and it was a good story.
A lot of the "annoyances" I've had with this author's series in the past are gone from these books. I can see where the craft has been worked on and bettered.
You’d think Keith could just kill some monsters and level in relative peace until he can kill the first World Boss, but no. It’s one thing after another in an unending stream of crap for him the whole book. He does make some nice advancements due to all the shenanigans he finds himself in, but you can be assured that Murphy’s Law is in full effect.
Pros: the shenanigans do make the story move along, and leave some plot hooks for the following books. His advancements are pretty cool, and will undoubtedly move him towards even more awesome stuff in the future. Also it’s nice to have the MC progressing at a decent speed instead of a logging along for a hundred chapters with little actual progression. Also the way he curves any attempt at romance is hilarious, and a nice change for a lot of the genre.
Cons: Keith isn’t a super nuanced character, so he’s a little flat to read. The penny pinching miser thing gets old fast, all through book 1 I got it. But he’s got plenty of money now and acts like spending anything will physically hurt him half the time. Also the continual crotch shot joke is well past the expiration date. It wasn’t funny the first time, and it’s repeated use serves no purpose outside of an elementary school attempt at humor.
Overall I liked the book well enough that I’ll read book 3 when it comes out. Hopefully anyone who bothers to read my wall of text will find it useful.
Keith’s single mindedness is either going to help him succeed or die
A series of surprise attacks begin guild war with the Necro-Beast guild as they attempt to wipe out the Pest Hunters guild with Keith right in the middle. His skills lead him into and through a lot of hairy situations that should have killed someone’s his level. But don’t thank the Trickster for the skills accumulated over many lifetimes as he was the one who caught Keith up in his quest, using him as entertainment for hundreds of years on multiple worlds. He has no choice but to succeed and kill the 5 world monsters that rule the continents of his new world. Then he gets to go home to his brothers and even have his parents returned. A huge motivator for Keith, just like the don’t die part. Epic monsters and villains are ahead and quests guided by a system that is barely more dungeon master than legendary psychotic manipulator. For Keith, the system’s balances are all that keeps him alive during some challenges and the dungeon could be even worse… hopefully the rewards are worth it as he dodges assassins and bounty hunters after him for foiling the Empress of the Necro-Beast guild which spans multiple continents… he just has to survive and kill 5 world bosses that require dozens to hundreds of participants.
Tad must wade through quests an complete in stages as he helps defeat dark guilds to end a war.
Tad just barely begins a new life on a new world an is thrown into a war between 2 guilds one he just happened to join to survive this new world . Quest are thrown at him he must complete or die instantly an lose his chance at ever being with his family ever again on earth . As time goes on he learns to adapt to the new world in order to survive or die . He learns a bounty is put on his head by the other guild at makes living even harder never knowing who to trust . He must end this war at all cost . recommend reading excellent series .
Too many of these lit rpg books fall into the trap of either way too much dialouge or way too little. The monkey character is genuinely great, as he is a wonderful blend of a little helpless kid, a wise mentor and a lovable pet. The main character is unique enough to be interesting, while having enough outlandish traits to give him some extra depth, though I would say he doesnt always act like he is very old. I hope that some of the side characters who have promising starts get more fleshed out though.
OK, I’m loving the book. It’s pretty decent and I will continue reading. My only gripe is that sometimes he forgets certain things and I understand how they could ruin the story. But the loot goblins out there like myself cannot handle it when you describe a certain boss fight chambers, and before the fight starts. Talk about piles of gold and scrolls and just walk out of the room after the fight not grabbing any of it. This kills me.
This was an entertaining read. That said there’s some room for improvement. Outside of the MC and his sidekick, there was very little character development. Also the author played fast and loose with the LitRPG mechanics. A lot of things honestly didn’t make sense. Mainly small things, but it was enough to be annoying.
So far, this series has yet to disappoint. It is truly better than most. I could see myself reading this on to the last delicious monster hunting drop. Out of the 10-15 other litrpg books/series I've read, this one so far is in the top two. The other book/series has a peculiar gluttonous murder bunny character i love.
I enjoyed the 2nd book of the series. There seemed to be almost constant action and a lot of different plot lines which made for a more complex story but in the end they all tied in together. The lack of cussing was less noticeable but I might just be used to it at this point. There were a lot of powerful entities the book and the MC was smart enough to know when he couldn’t handle them alone.
Overall a good continuation of the story with character growth and lots of action and adventure.
Story is going decent, but I got frustrated when the author said curses have to come from someone living, and then later said that undead specialized in curse magic. MC seems to be leveling pretty quickly. He ends the book at level 30.
I picked up the first 3 of this series for free, so I'll get to the 3rd eventually, but it hasn't grabbed me just yet.
Enjoyed this one more than I expected. The scope of the story expanded well while still maintaining cohesion. I liked a lot of the worldbuilding with many hints of future characters or arcs. Keith himself continues to be likeable acting in a practical manner while dealing with everything he comes across. I enjoyed the plot of this one despite it veering off course from the main quest.
Although, as the mc actually states, not much monster hunting. A lot of politics and whatnot. ... And for all that the mc seems to want to hunt monsters I don't know that the plot will let that happen.
I'm not sure I'm entirely on board with the direction, but, again, solid. Plus I had the first 3 books as a set I guess, so I'll read on and reassess at that time.
bigger scope, bigger numbers, and bigger monsters. This is essentially everything I'd expect in a continuation of a litRPG/Progression fantasy series. The System is getting more and more of a personality, and that is a nice progression, but I'd still like to see the cast of actual people filled out a bit more. Overall it is a good continuation of book one, and I'll be reading book 3.
Great continuation of this series. So thankful I picked up part one in KU. Character development is good , story line strong overall highly recommended .Really looking forward to part 3
I loved the first book and this one didn't disappoint! The growth of the mc was well planned out and I liked all the twists and turns in the plot. On to the next! Please hurry author!
The issue with setting up your book to be a game is. . .
It removes all agency from your characters. Everything is just the next quest objective. Nothing matters, even the combat is inconsequential. This whole series is a testament to inevitability.
Pretty well done continuation of the story. I liked it. Likely I'll read more in this seriess, only not right now, need a break, but it's a good series, if you're a LitRPG fan, have at it, it's worth the read.
The whole time reading I was thinking how a book titled “we hunt monsters” there’s not a ton of monster hunting, but i towards the end the MC becomes aware too. Hopefully book 3 has some good monster hunting.

Love the story but there’s many issues with the names of some characters and creatures that don’t stay consistent. Drives me batty. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading!!!
Really repetitive and have on the character sheet and stats. The plot is kill something, forget to loot it, stand in line for the crafter (lines? Really?) And check your character sheet for the billion time.
