Rules are meant to be broken. But can love mend the hearts of this sexy actress and the quiet giant paid to protect her?
Demetrius Montgomery governs his world by words. He’s a loner from a large rowdy family who found his voice in writing. Readers praise the realism in his novels while critics probe his technique to depict his characters with such accuracy.
It all remains a trade secret until he’s splattered on every tabloid and gossip blog after he’s hired to guard the very beautiful and publicly scrutinized Kanesha Greene.
Not from the paparazzi. Not from bloggers. But her parents hired him to protect Kanesha from herself. But who’s going to protect her from him?
Kanesha Greene starred in her first sitcom at five years old. Her first television show at eleven. And her first sex tape at seventeen. For ten years she’s accepted this is her life and against the cancel-culture odds she’s poised for a career comeback if she doesn’t screw this up.
Private kisses, discreet touches, and passion-filled nights awaken a rare experience.
Demetrius guards her body and exposes her heart. Kanesha ignites his soul and teaches him to love. But he’s a man with a deadline.
Could life be more than books and acting and family?
For a moment the answer is yes, until convenient lies and opportunist deeds bubble to the surface commanding center stage. And they must decide whether their love will survive the power of his pen?
Ja’Nese Dixon pens tales of romance in various subgenres. But her favorites are the ones that manage to keep readers sitting on the edge of their seats lying to themselves about reading “just one more chapter”.
She is an avid reader and coffee drinker, who also loves to run, cook, and craft. Her ultimate goal as a writer is to give you a little “staycation” with every story.

Demetrius is the Montgomery sibling that seems like a dark horse. He's around, but in the back ground, I feel like we don't know him all that well. So with this book all about him I was intrigued. I find how he writes his books to be interesting, very immersive, but also wonder how a person is able to get near all the things he writes about if he does it the way he's doing this body guard book.
I wasn't sure what to think of Kanesha at first, thought she came off as a bit spoiled, later thought maybe she was being controlled by her parents and manager, turns out it was a bit of both. I liked that Demetrius took the time to get to know her and let Kanesha know that he saw her. He gave her another option to go with her life, something that she desperately needed. I was very glad when things worked out for them.
This is the fifth book in the Southern Gentlemen series and brings us another glorious Montgomery brother. Demetrius is a writer and quieter than the other. He avoids the limelight but is thrust into it when he is hired to protect celebrity Kanesha. The chemistry is strong and immediate. This is an age gap romance. Fast paced and full of steam he finds himself head over heels in love with her. This was a good romance that was fun to read. It was also nice to catch up with some of the other Montgomery's. I read an advance copy via Bad Boy Updates and voluntarily chose to review it.
I must admit that it took a little bit to get into this Montgomery book but once I was there, I was there. I enjoyed getting to know Demetrius and Kenesha and the journey they took together. Some of the side characters pissed me off completely and the redemption for some I gave a major side-eye towards. I think the ending was rushed especially since there was so much meat for 75% of the story.
CW: Undercover Work, Parental Conservatory, Addiction, Acting Out
I have been fully invested in this series ever since I stumbled on "Play to Win." It is so good to catch up with the family. Everyone is flourishing while expanding the next generation. I had been anticipating Demetrius' story for a while. With his quiet demeanor and career of choice, I had a vibe he was a "quiet storm." He proved that by how he protected Kanesha from her "manager" and parents. He learned her in just a few short months. Kanesha had a lot more going on than the blogs or any social media app could report. It was refreshing when Kanesha was able to take her life back. She was able to become an independent woman. I loved when Demetrius pulled a "troy" on Troy. Troy got to experience how it felt to be "blacklisted" in Hollywood. He needed that hard lesson in his life after all of the years of controlling Kanesha. Demetrius and the Montgomerys flexed and changed the trajectory of Kanesha's life by getting rid of Troy.
If you haven't gotten into this series you are missing out. This is truly one large family made by blood and best friends. The grandparents claim all grandkids whether biological or not. One granddaughter better known as "Toots" by Demetrius was the star of this book. She was coined as the "cussing sailor" at just the mere age of two. Her uncles were teaching her more than her ABCs. I am looking forward to reading all about Toots in Uncle Q's book. I get the feeling that Uncle Q and Heaven are about to make some noise. I will be ready for the adventure those two are going to take.
I love the Montgomery family! They stick together no matter the situation and now D's in a spot where hos next book isn't going right because his inspiration is acting up. Kanesha has been in the spotlight since she was a child, but drugs, sextapes, and pervy management has her acting out to get attention. All she wants is freedom. When D gets a job Asher bodyguard he can get what he nerds for his book and move on but he sees the real Kanesha. The woman who wants to call her own shots.
His situation becomes complex when he starts to fall for the misunderstood, intelligent actress, but when she finds out about his story she feels used once again. Is he like everyone else demanding their pound of flesh? These two have some hurdles to get over to get to their HEA.
It was refreshing to see the Montgomery family again. New additions, old faces, and steady growing. D and Kanesha were an absolute treat to read and I look forward to seeing them again. If you haven't read Ja'Nese Dixon's Southern Gentlemen series, start now!.
Yes, Demetrius is just as fine as his brothers, and it was worth waiting to read his story. D is an excellent writer with many facets to his personality. Kanesha is an actress who truly needed to take control of her life because Troy was disgusting, and her parents had blinders on where this man was concerned. "D" is elusive and takes his writing very seriously, and Nesh, as an actress, deals with her life on display for the world to see the good and the bad. Once she knew she could trust Demetrius, they knew they had a chance. I love the comics with Uncle D versus Uncle Q and Bailey as the "cussing sailor." Kenesha being around D's family is what her heart needed until they hit a bump in the road name Troy when he got the story from D's computer. But time apart gave them time to work through their problems, make some changes and finally come back to each other fully and wholly committed. So glad Demetrius talked to his mom. I love that D and Nesh are now part of this family's "happy couples" group.
It took me a few times to sit down and commit to reading this book. But, once I did, I loved the slow build up, and slow dance their characters took to get to their HEA.
Reading all of the other books in the series made me curious about Demetrius. He always seemed so distant and mysterious, compared to his other family members.
What a sad, but beautiful way for two souls to find their way together. There was so much pain and emotion involved with Kanesha's life and the tragic circumstances she and family found themselves in being in the entertainment industry.
Thankfully, the Montgomery family comes through and thrives to show the best of humanity.
I would highly recommend this book as a must read. However, I would also recommend reading the entire series, in order to know and understand all of the other characters and family members who appear in this bok.
Awesome another captivating romance that I absolutely enjoyed. It's full of awesome characters and a great dialogue. Definitely a entertaining story that is full of fun and romance, It will make you smile and you may want a fan for parts of the story. Because it's full of emotional drama and along with their sizzling hot passions it will keep you turning pages until the end. I'm a fan of strong and brave women with men who are reluctant at first but once they meet the love of their life they will fight for their families and reach for love And of course steamy connections I enjoyed every moment of their relationship It's one that I couldn't put my reader down until I finished the story. If you are like myself you will enjoy it because it's a awesome romance. Of course you will enjoy diving into this electric and absolutely sizzling passionate story. everybody says yes! Well at least I do and have!!
Wow. These Montgomery men are completely off the charts sexy, handsome, fascinating, exciting and tall drinks of water. Out of all of the brothers I knew Demetrius's story was going to be a rollercoaster of shenanigans and emotions. Now you know that saying about watching out for the quiet ones? Well they are soooo right. The minute Demetrius sets his eyes on Keneisha he knew he found his ONE. But he had a big secret that could jeopardize their newly found relationship. And Keneisha had some drama with her manager. I loved this book on so many levels! Ja'Nese Dixon weaved together another amazing storyline! I'm so glad Keneisha finally got peace. She deserved It. And the ending was such a gorgeous sight. I highly recommend this series. You will not be disappointed. 🌹
This is book 5 in the Southern Gentlemen series and it features Kanesha and Demetrius. Her life as an actress is quite the roller coaster and she needs a calm influence like D. I love the slow but sexy build to their romance and the way he knew just what she needed. My emotions ran the full gamut throughout this book. I was happy, sad, envious, angry and I was rooting for her to the end!
This is my first read from this author and I am hooked! Even though this is the fifth book in this series, I feel like I know each of the Montgomerys already. This author gives you just enough information about each character so you don’t feel lost. I can’t wait to read the previous books in this series!
It's always the quiet ones. Demetrius is quiet and a writer. He keeps out of the spotlight. He has his demons and he keeps them to himself. But he loves his family. Kanesha is a child star who believes everyone wants something from her and no one has proven her wrong yet. Her demons are many. When D needs to write a book about Kanesha he becomes her bodyguard. Can the attraction between them last when both have demons that cause them not to trust. This book will capture your attention. D is older than Kanesha but I don't think he uses that to his advantage. I like that both need to deal with their own demons before they can be a couple. Love the Swearing Sailor. Can just picture her.
Kanesha Green is an actress and has been since she was a child. People are always manipulating her so she doesnt have a life. She sacked her manager and then dressed up with a gun to try and get a part in a new movie and ended up in jail. Jeff her bodyguard is with her he ends up getting the sack. Then Demetrius Montgomery is hired by her parents as her bodyguard he is doing it as a favour for his friend Bull and also he is writing a book about her under his other name. I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read the next one. I received an ARC for an honest review which I have given
Demitrius is hired to protect Kanesha and he has been warned about what she has done in the past. When Kanesha sees him, she's drawn to him until he is told about her past. Demitrious is the only person that isn't trying to manipulate her into doing things. Its not long after they starts spending time together that things begins to change between them. Can Demitrious keep Kanesha under control? Will they both find something more with him working for her?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book for Bad Boy Update.
I’ve been waiting to read about Demetrius Montgomery and this book did not disappoint. While there were several editing mistakes, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this story. From book 1 Demetrius has seemed so elusive and I couldn’t wait to read about him and see what he had to say. I loved his relationship with his siblings especially with Baby Miah and Q. He gave Kanesha the love and support she had been missing from her parents and showed her what unconditional love looked like. I wasn’t sure about Kanesha’s parents and once you read this book I’m sure you will feel the same. I can’t wait to see what happens next for the Montgomery’s in Q’s book.
I found this hard to get through. I think I recieved an early ARC copy as there was editing to be done still. I understand that is the case but there were so many points where I lost whose POV I was in, it jumped scenes, wrong words were used or random *REMOVE* markers appeared that I couldn't follow the story or tell what was poor editing or poor writing. This was my first book by this author and there was a lot of references to earlier books that clouded the story for me. The basic story of uncovering the real Kanesha sounded great but it just didn't deliver for me.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book in the series that I have read, and it can absolutely be read as a standalone. The heroine is a struggling child actress trying to get into roles she wants as an adult, while having to fight her manager and parents in the process. Demetrius has an ulterior motive for intergrating her entourage. Lies, deceit and betrayal play a huge role in this story. The ain characters are well constructed, endearing and larger than life. Good story, subtle and endearing, I really enjoyed this one.
investigative report/novelist/ bodyguard meets child actress all grown up and doing stunts to be seen and heard her way. It was weird and slow to start but then it got good. the thought was to Make it together to make it real and keeping her safe until it blew up in their face more his that hers. So the real and bantering and the family circling the wagons to make it a real stay real and rumors rumors. Loved it.

This book provided realistic views of what sometimes goes on in the background of celebrities Demetrius and Kanesha love story was not easy but was real for both of them The Montgomery family was in the house and did what they do best support and love each other They embraced Kanesha like she was one of them and she felt the love Letting go of past hurts and moving forward was necessary for Kanesha and Demetrius to reach their HEA Another great story by JaNese Keep them coming and l will keep reading Can’t wait for Quan and Heaven story
This is the first book I have read from this series. I loved the Montgomery family. So I will be looking into more of their stories. D really captured my heart! He is so patient and kind. He really loves his family. And he protected Kanesha very wise and well. A favorite part of the story was "Toots." She was nicknamed, the cussing sailor! Her uncles are teaching her their English! So funny. I also enjoyed the heartfelt prayers. Awesome. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Bad Boy Updates.
I've been keeping up with this series and it has not failed on giving good entertainment. Now I will say to the author please please go back through this book. There are some parts that are unclear of what's happening. Also each chapter needs a title of which character's perspective the chapter is coming from. I wish there was more detail of the counseling session with the Greenes and detail on Troy getting fired (oops, spoiler). However outside of all of that, I enjoyed the book. Ready for the next part.
This one started off a little dark and I wasn't sure if I would like it. I liked it a lot. Demetrius was like his brothers, handled business and was a true protector. When they go to Houston and they immediately know Kanesha was one of them now was so sweet. Demetrius just handled everything and SHOWED her his love because he knew the words wouldn't penetrate. Not understanding the forgiveness of her raggedy parents, and the ending was a bit rushed but I loved getting to know Demetrius and He is one of my faves in this series for sure.
This book is worth 10 STARS and a Commissary sized bag of chips…yeah I know that may seem old school. But this book is worth it.
I just love, love, love this book. And I’m looking forward to reading Q’s story.
Any opinions expressed within this review are solely and uniquely made by me and I am happily leaving this review. I originally voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book via bsprout.
This was a good read kanesha was spiraling and her parents could see it cause they were to busy trusting a slime ball although Demetrius said he was a writer he didn’t give full detail but they both fell in love but each had to face their demons to heal personally….. I wanted more of Troy’s background of bad behavior and ha be more people come out about his dirty deeds and Q will forever be that lovingly annoying brother
What I liked best were the prayers sprinkled through the story about Demetrius Montgomery who makes big money living the double life (like the Greek god Janis) as famous author Monty. But to see prayers answered and the happy ever after ending for him with his dysfunctional younger famous child star! Great book.
Don’t y’all sleep on Demetrius!! That man went hard for Kanesha and she really needed someone in her corner. I felt sorry for her having to deal with a controlling older man and parents with blinders on. I was glad she overcame her addictions to meet a great man and to prosper and grow. Demetrius and Kanesha were so good together and I loved their story!! These Montgomery’s got it going on!
He is a writer who needs to have a body guard. She is hired for his protection detail. He is suppose to be off-limits and untouchable due to him being a client. They try their hardest but their feelings are super strong. It was a great book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow Ja’Nese Dixon another Great Read. I am so glad Demetrius and Kanesha found true love with each other in all of this drama and chaos. Readers this book is for you if you like love and close family ties because that’s what you will receive from the Montegomery Family. I most definitely would recommend this book.
