War on the Gods #4

The Threads of Fate

Rate this book
Could the threads of fate be wrong—could there be another way to win this war on the gods?

With Hades’s, Poseidon’s, and Zeus’s strongest magical items in their possession, Andy and Zoey think they’re prepared to defeat the tyrannical Greek gods—that is, until the truth about the immortals living inside their bodies is revealed.

As it turns out, Andy and Zoey aren’t reincarnations of Anteros and Calliope. They’re regular old mortals, and regular old mortals can’t harness the full powers of the gods’ objects, which is the only way to take down the pantheon.

Thankfully, Asteria shows Andy and Zoey a future where they might emerge victorious in their clash with the gods. The issue? If they want a shot at saving the world, they’ll need to reconnect with Anteros and Calliope... and allow the immortals to take control of their bodies forever.

With the help of their friends, a dying Titan, and a vengeful, scheming goddess, Andy and Zoey will have to decide whether they can make the ultimate sacrifice to liberate humanity.

I really enjoyed this book and the series as a whole. There was a bit of repetition that slowed down my reading at first (almost like you'd expect out of an episodic series), but either it quit at some point or I got so enthralled by the book that I no longer noticed. Great for someone who might leave the book partly read for a while because you won't need to reread in order to know what's going on.

Other than the battle against the gods, I really liked that Zoey and Andy were both questioning Fate and what their personal decisions could change. It really shows readers that their decisions do matter, and that it's important to stand up for yourself and what you believe is right. A great lesson for young YA readers wrapped in an exciting post-apocalyptic storyline and a lesson in Greek mythology.

And just look at that cover 😍 I loved the originals on the first two books, but just imagine how beautiful a hardback with the iridescent rainbow and shiny gold would be

The Threads of Fate is the last book in the War on the Gods series. It was great to dive back into the series and world based on Greek mythology.

Unfortunately, it didn't quite reach my expectations from the previous books. There was still action, but there was a lot more slower parts and some repetition. I also didn't feel as connected to the characters, especially to Zoey, as I had in the past. But, I can't pinpoint what changed so it could just be me. Without revealing spoilers, I have the same issue as two of the characters, and the result for them seemed really far-fetched even for a fantasy novel. It is something that I tried to look pass, but I couldn't, and it did affect my overall opinion of the book.

I liked that the ending was solid and didn't leave a lot of unanswered questions, but it still gave room for hope of a spinoff series.

I highly recommend the War on the Gods series especially to mythology fans.

Thank you to A.P. Mobley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
