Although I enjoyed this book it was very predictable and I found that I guessed right in the end. Some of the story annoyed me as to how someone could be so stupid and manage to fly back to Greece immediately after coming home. The book ended on a happy note which was great. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

"Awesome Andreas"... This is the tattoo that gets Lydia into a pickle. After all, she cannot, for the life of her, remember why she got the tattoo, let alone who Andreas is and why he is so ‘awesome’. Returning from her weekend break away in Greece, she knows she has some explaining to do to her boyfriend, Jim. Except, he barely even notices the tattoo and, very soon, Lydia realises it is time to move on. And what could be better than returning to Greece and finding this mysterious Andreas?

A fun read, I really thought the writer brought the Greek setting alive. It certainly transported me to sunnier climes and I could vividly imagine the basking sunshine and blue skies. I think this was the most appealing part of the narrative because, for the majority, I thought the plot too predictable. In my opinion, this isn’t a story that I will remember in a few books time because there wasn’t enough to make it stand out from the crowd.

Lydia’s move back to Greece sees her tracking down different Andreas’s. She cannot remember the night of the tattoo so she is hoping that by meeting (and dating) these men, she will meet ‘The One’. As you would expect, things do not go to plan and she turns to her new friend, Alexis, for advice. Over time, Lydia starts to realise she isn’t too disappointed that the elusive Andreas has yet to be discovered and that love could be nearer than she realises.

It was a sweet read and the characters were pleasant. I really liked Alexis and thought he was a kind and supportive friend to Lydia, particularly in the earlier parts of the novel where the language barrier and lack of money brings her down. I think the narrative could have been enriched by swapping to Alexis’s point of view, although this would likely ruin the final surprise at the end of the novel.

Overall, this definitely has “holiday read” written all over it! It is quite charming and entertaining for a holiday romance and the predictable nature of the plot means it is ideal if you cannot sit and read this for long periods of time. However, I thought that the story could have moved a bit faster and the plot be a bit more different to other books of a similar genre.

With thanks to One More Chapter, Harper Collins and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher for my review copy. All opinions are my own.

This was delightful. Although I do not believe it is YA…it gave me a little Love & Gelato feel. Let’s be honest. I adored this vibe.

Greece is always a huge win and this particular title confirmed…Greece is indeed on my bucket list.

If you like sweet romance and coming of age/finding yourself…pick it up.

Can I start by saying I have harped on about this book to several people already, and I only finished it yesterday night!
A real feel good funny romantic comedy where we find our hapless heroine, Lydia on her way back from a holiday with friends to find she has brought back more than just a tan from Kefalonia!
A tattoo with the name of a mysterious, but apparently 'awesome' man, leads her to finish a relationship that was going g nowhere, and head back to the Greek island, where she goes on a huge adventure to find this man.
Lots of hiccups, but she finds friends, a job, and in the end, love!
Really fun!

What would you do if you were in Greece and woke up to find a tattoo that said, "Awesome Andreas" on your back? Well, this is what has happened to Lydia, however it is her last day on holiday with her friends. She returns to Yorkshire, England to her boyfriend/boss trying to hide it and remember what events exactly led her to get said tattoo.

Lydia discovers her boyfriend/boss is manipulative and perhaps is only really using her, so off she jets back to Greece to find her "Awesome Andreas." On her adventure, she meets many Andreas' and becomes really close with some of the locals. She is realizing she really does belong somewhere, and it may not be in England anymore.

Emily Kerr has written a delightful and witty tale. Lydia's journey is not only eventful but also ends up with her discovering what she truly wants and needs. I highly recommend this fun adventure in Greece!

Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for the digital ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

Started as a joke, finished it on the flight, got me in the mood for Greece.

Read a bit like a journal entry with every. single. mundane. occurrence. described in excruciating detail. My main question the entire time was what her visa situation was when she just up and left for Greece for an indefinite amount of time. Was this set before brexit??

But still, it was cute and it was set in Greece, what more could you ask for?

A classic summer romance where it is quite obvious from the start who Lydia's awesome love interest really is, but it takes a good portion of the book for her to find out for herself. In the mean time, the reader gets to discover the wonderful Greek island together with Lydia. Very enjoyable!

Emily Kerr is talented in turning even mundane stories into something remarkable and swoon-worthy. This is not one of her best, but still, a light-hearted and pleasurable read. The entire story revolves around her search for Awesome Andreas, the guy she has decided on as the love of her life. It is easy to guess who that is from the beginning and even the twist towards the end came out as a mild surprise. So if you are attracted to this story because of the mystery element, I would say forget it. But if it is the word 'Greece' that drew you in, then you made the right pick.
Lydia is no party girl and on the off chance she gets drunk, she looks absolutely sober to others. That resulted in her waking up after a drunken night in Kefalonia with a tattoo on her back. It is a name but not that of her boyfriend's. The tattoo triggers her brain into action opening her eyes to what has gone unnoticed previously. Her boyfriend is a control freak; as her boss, he exploits her abilities but he is tight-fisted when it comes to payment. She breaks off her relationship and travels back to Kefalonia in search of her Andreas.
Joining a hotel as a maid, she starts her search for Andreas resulting in many hilarious dates. Each of these locations gives us a peak into this beautiful Greek island which will not fail to awaken your travel-crazed mind. Lydia's search may not have produced the desired result, but each of her failed dates bring her closer to understanding who she is.

What's it about (in a nutshell):
Take A Chance on Greece by Emily Kerr is a delightfully funny tale of a woman who is anything but a party girl, waking up with a tattoo of a man's name and having no memory of getting it or what inspired her to get it. Her quest to discover the origins of the tattoo sends her on a journey of self-discovery that changes her life completely.

Initial Expectations (before beginning the book):
The cover is cute and cartoonish, depicting a fabulous view of the Mediterranean, I presume since the title mentions Greece. From that, I suppose the story will be a humorous holiday-type story. The blurb confirms this by describing a The Hangover type story which should be a lot of fun.

Actual Reading Experience:
Take A Chance on Greece made me smile my whole way through the book. It is a fun, feel-good story with a great setting – my ideal setting.

I enjoyed observing Lydia's growth above all else. This character-driven story follows her journey to break free from a life that trapped her and take a chance on the unknown for which she only has a mysterious tattoo to guide her. I think inside of all of us is that desire to take a chance on something that could be great – to drop everything and follow our heart's dream where it leads. Whether that involves a person, a location, or even a job change – we all have those dreams that responsibilities make seem so far away. So, reading a story about someone who does just that is incredibly relatable and allowed me to do the same vicariously.

The first-person narration and the surprising twists and turns create an incredibly fast-paced story that held my focus from beginning to end. I think the twists were my favorite part, as I didn't expect them based on the genre. They are several laughs too, which I always hope for with a romantic comedy, and the romance aspect is so natural and sweet. I loved that it wasn't instant love, as it could have easily been given the premise.

And I can't forget to mention the setting. I think part of the reason I related and rooted for Lydia is because that setting is my dream. Not specifically that island but any island, though Greek Islands with the white buildings and unreal blue water is such a visual dream and stunning setting.

Characters:
Lydia is the main character and narrator. She is an accountant in a relationship with her boss, who treats her horribly – paying her less than everyone else and dictating everything. But once she realizes what's going on – how controlling and self-serving he is- she changes drastically. I admire her strength of character and her sense of adventure. She is determined, brave, and loves to explore. She is a character who is easy to get behind.

What It Reminds Me Of:
The Hangover in a much smaller, more focused story

To Read or Not to Read:
If you are looking for a book that will take you on a fun adventure to a beautiful location, Take A Chance on Greece is just that book. It will delight and surprise you!

The book opens with Lydia and her two friends having to rush to catch the shuttle bus to the Kefalonia airport at the end of their vacation. Lydia wakes up with a bad hangover, so there is no time to take a shower. On the bus, a scene that I think lasted a very long time with many reflections, one of her two friends discovers the tattoo on her lower back, she does not believe it at first, but when later girlfriend two confirms it and takes a picture of it, she does believe it.

Lydia who is very serious does not understand how this could have happened. On the bus to the airport, she ponders drowsy. When she comes home, her boyfriend, with whom she was going to live with after the holidays, does not even notice that there is a piece of cling film on her back. Very special and with this it is immediately clear what the relationship is like, as a reader you understand it earlier than Lydia herself.

Back in Kefalonia, Lydia does everything she can to find Andreas, she gets help from bookseller Alexis. He also got her a job with his sister in the hotel, this simple cleaning job is just the right thing for Lydia who is getting things sorted for herself.

Nice entanglements, nice characters, nice descriptions of Kefalonia, you would actually immediately want to jump on the plane to see the places that Lydia visits on the various dates in her search for ‘Awesome Andreas’.

Take A Chance on Greece by Emily Kerr is a delightful and humorous story about Lydia, a woman who wakes up with a tattoo of a man's name and has no recollection of how she got it. The story takes her on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to uncover the origins of the tattoo, and it changes her life entirely.

This is an enchanting and heartening read that left me thoroughly entertained. While the story does involve the search for love, the main character Lydia also goes through a significant personal transformation. Her friends provide unwavering support throughout her journey, offering helpful dating advice and constant companionship. The charming local bookshop owner, Alexis, also plays a crucial role in Lydia's quest to find her ideal partner, leading her on a humorous and occasionally frustrating search for the elusive "Awesome Andreas."

Unfortunately, Lydia's attempts to locate her dream man lead her down some unexpected paths, including encounters with an arrogant and married Andreas. However, just when she believes she has found her match, a surprising twist alters the course of her journey, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end.

Overall, the author has written a captivating narrative with friendly characters that will leave a lasting impression. If you're looking for a light-hearted summer read, I highly recommend "Take a Chance on Greece" by Emily Kerr.

I can't help but think another title for this book could have been "Searching for Awesome Andreas", as that is pretty much what Lydia is doing.

Well after she discovers a tattoo on her back saying Awesome Andreas, which appeared during a few missing hours of her last night in Kefalonia, before returning back from the girls trip away yo move in with her boyfriend Jim.

Thankfully we don't have to put up with too much Jim, and Lydia flies back to Kefalonia determined to find out just who this Andreas is and why he is awesome.

She just needs to find a job, accommodation and earn some money, and perhaps come up with a plan on of how on earth to find a man she can't really remember.

To say there are a few Andreas dates would be an understatement, but all so different and all equally memorable for different reasons.

I loved getting to to know Lydia's new friends too, and although I did partially guess something from the finale, I still had the reasoning wrong and was very happy with the outcome regardless.

It was a joy to see bits of Kefalonia through Lydia's eyes, and this is wonderful escapist beach reading.

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Lydia and her friends Kat and Amira flew to Greece. Upon return she was moving in with her boyfriend and her boss, Jim. On night Lydia wandered off by herself, a little drunk, and the next day she realized she had a tattoo “Awesome Andreas” on her back. She wondered how she would tell Jim about the tattoo she did not remember getting. Once back and in their apartment, he did not seem to pay much attention to her. The next day she found out that he was not even paying her what he paid his other employees. She was fed up and walked out on him and her job, taking the first flight back to Greece. She was determined to find out who the awesome Andreas was. Things fell into place when Alexis found her trying to get into the tattoo parlor across from his bookstore. He fed her and managed to get his sister to hire her as a cleaner at her hotel which provided a room to stay as well as a small salary. I loved this book! I felt like I toured Greece along with Lydia. It was fun to see her date each Andreas with their different personalities. Alexis and his family were wonderful characters and Lizzie grew with confidence and grace. Great book!

My Opinion

I read the majority of this book in one sitting, it was a very welcome distraction. A feel good, romantic comedy that is relatively quick to read. A lovely holiday read, that will whisk you away even if you are having a staycation.

This is perfect summer reading: clear skies, crystal waters and romance with a great cast and story. It’s compulsive reading, or perhaps you’d call it escapism and particularly for lovers of the Greek Islands. Set in Kefalonia, the theme is set when one of the three best friends finds that on her last night of her holiday she acquired a tattoo but has no recollection of how this came about. On returning home to the UK, Lydia moved into her boyfriend’s apartment, only to discover what a controlling influence he had had on her life and work. As the story goes, she felt there was only one course of action open to her, which was to return to Kefalonia and find the person whose name she bore tattooed on her back, the Awesome Andreas.

A predictable story, but nevertheless full of fun and the intrigue.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Harper Collins One More Chapter for this advance copy.

Thank you NetGalley, Emily Kerr and HarperCollins UK for the ARC Take a Chance on Greece. This is my personal review.
There are some books that I pick up and plan to read for just a little while and before I realize it, I am reading the last page of the book. This was one of those books.
Lydia and some of her girl friends go on a girl’s trip to Greece. Lydia brings more back with her from their trip than she expected. She comes back with a tattoo and cannot remember when or why she got it.
This tattoo makes her decide to return and figure out her life. This is one book you will want to read and enjoy it as much as I did. No spoilers here from me grab this one and escape with Lydia, you will be glad you did.

Lydia wakes up hungover in Greece, rushing to catch a plane back to the UK with her besties. She sobers up to find that she has a tattoo on her back that says "Awesome Andreas." She has absolutely no memory of getting the tattoo or even Andreas. What's worse is that she is on the way home to her boyfriend, whose name is Jim!
Back home, she starts to see that Jim is manipulative and not the one for her. She quits her job and buys a one way ticket back to Greece to find Andreas. She has no plan, money or any idea where to start. This is the first time she's decided to take control of her life. What follows is a series of good fortune and bad dates with random men named Andreas.
This was a good "beach read" with a great twist at the end. Another pleasant read by Emily Kerr.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read this book.
Lydia returns from her holiday in Greece with an unwelcome addition. A tattoo she has no memory of. Being home causes her to finally look at her life then decide to fly back to Greece to discover the truth behind her tattoo.

This was a fun summer read. Ideal for on the beach. Lydie did make me question her sanity at times and yet I admired her daring. The plot is simple but fun. The ending is predictable as expected in these stories but I liked how it came together. The ending scene was so perfectly put together. The writing does a brilliant job at describing the sheer beauty of the location. I liked Lydia and Alexis is amazing, I mean he runs a book shop who needs more. A fun read that I enjoyed.

My best read of the summer!
Such a lovely book which made me laugh and smile and long for a new Greek holiday.
I sided with Lydia from the beginning when her fiancé left her alone on their first night in the flat and never bothered to give her a key. Alarm bells were ringing!
She returns to glorious Kefalonia to track down 'Awesome Andreas' - a man whose name she felt strongly enough to have tattooed on her back under the influence of holiday alcohol. She meets the kind and sweet bookshop owner Alexis and her life changes direction.
She meets with several Andreases - none of them Awesome. But she does begin to fall for the country, the food and the lifestyle and finally learns to follows her heart into the arms of the man who's fallen in love with her. Five star fabulous read!

This is a delightful romance with realistic characters set in a beautiful town in Greece. From beginning to end I was entranced by the descriptions of Sami and the storyline. The author wrote a book that flows smoothly, making me read to the wee hours as I didn’t want to put it down. It was so easy to loose myself in this book and I was rooting for Lydia the whole way. While this is a romance it wasn’t contrived and it didn’t feel like every other romance novel. It was a fun read and left me smiling and feeling happy. Many thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for the invitation to read this ARC. It was a great getaway.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic, humorous story about a young woman's adventures in Greece. While on vacation, Lydia has too much to drink and gets a tattoo with "Amazing Andreas" written on it. She doesn't remember who Andreas is or why she got the tattoo but when her relationship at home falls apart, she returns to Greece to find Andreas. Alexis befriends her and helps her find a job. Their friendship progresses as she searches of all the Andreas which is apparently a common Greek name. Of course, the plot thickens and grows. The characters are perfectly imperfect and the romance will warm your heart. I read this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A lovely, feel good, romance.

Lydia and her two friends are rushing to the airport as it’s time to go home after a trip to Kefalonia. While on the bus, she discovers she has a new tattoo, she can’t remember getting it done or who the guys name is that she has on her back. After arriving back to the UK, her toxic boyfriend Jim is a control freak, she decides it’s time to head back to the Greek island in search of her Awesome Andreas. Will she find him?

This is a perfect beach read, you won’t want to move until you are finished. Highly recommend.

This is a story of self-discovery, and taking chances. Lydia is an appealing and charming main character and her issues with self-esteem will relate to many.

A heartwarming, addictive, escapism read, with a plot that flows well. This author's beautifully descriptive style makes for stunning destinations and transports the reader directly to Kefalonia without leaving their seat.

This is ideal for any summer read, whether, on holiday somewhere tranquil or just chilling at home. This is a tale to lose yourself in!

I undoubtedly adored this, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of a cute, fluffy read!

Perfect holiday read, I’ve actually read it whilst holidaying in kos, and I have had a brief visit to Kefalonia several years back, this did take me back to some beautiful attractions ,
I found the beginning of the storyline a bit tedious and nearly gave up, I think it was a bit slow at the start and back in the uk with jerky Jim, however once she arrived back in Greece I was hooked. I loved the characters, the descriptions of the cave and lake were perfect, along with the roads and hills, I guessed the twist but it didn’t spoil the story I was happy enough for it just to be confirmed. Lovely book
