Off the Hook

Rate this book
Wendy Darling never imagined she would live in any other time than the early 20th century, nor did she ever see herself living in any place besides England. But after a journey with Peter gone askew, she finds herself in 21st century USA.

Years later while at a fencing class, she is shocked to discover that Captain Hook (Evan Roberts) is there as well. He is ready for change and has left his villainy behind in Neverland. The long-held attraction between them surfaces, and only intensifies each time they see each other.

As Wendy sees positive change in Evan, but no change in Peter's narcissistic and selfish behavior, her belief of Evan as a villain and Peter as a hero are upturned. Can she trust the former Captain Hook with her heart, and will Peter ever grow up?

Sooooo unique and such a fun twist!

Wow! This book was so FUN! The cover is amazing. Just saying. So with the cover alone, I was “hooked”. Okay, I didn’t mean to make that pun. 😅 After reading the blurb, I needed to know what happened. A Captain Hook turned good who had a thing for Wendy? Yes, please!! Evan was the best and oh so swoony!

There were a bunch of parts that surprised me but the whole experience was delightful.

These characters found themselves in Provo, UT after leaving Neverland to grow up. I wasn’t expecting them to be college students, but it was a fun aspect that I was not expecting. Wendy was a sweetheart and her relationship with Michael and John was sweet.

Pretty much, I’m glad I read this book and it’s worth the read. My husband even got a rundown of what happened—with my horrible storytelling skills—and he thought it sounded interesting too. 😍😍

This is such a fun story with a twist on Peter Pan. I loved the focus on them as adults and learning how to deal with a new reality, emotions and some bad tendencies. The story continues after Wendy convinces Peter to come back to Reality instead of Neverland and ends up landing them in our time in the United States.

Hook wants nothing but a second chance to be the person he remembers before Neverland, so he sneaks aboard Peter’s ship and joins the Darling siblings, the lost boys and Peter on their journey to Reality

In the new reality, Wendy wants Peter to grow up and realize he wants her. She’s tired of playing Peter’s immature games, and waiting around for him to notice her. She then meets Evan and finds a connection with him. He cares for her and treats her the best way possible.

So what happens with Peter, or to John and Michael? Read for all the fun twists, turns and more!

I like the idea, and having the story told in alternating POVs (Wendy, Peter, Hook) made it more interesting, but despite the characters being in their 20's it somehow all felt a bit too juvenile. Now, that makes sense for Peter especially, but it's more than that, it's the overall tone of the writing that just feels a bit too young and like maybe they should be in high school/15 rather than college/mid-20s. Anyway, a fun idea and lovely cover but not quite my vibe for some reason.

After leaving Neverland, Wendy Darling, her brothers, all the Lost Boys, AND Peter all settle in Utah and try to live normal lives. What they don’t know is that a certain foe may have also stowed away on the getaway ship all those years ago and now he’s here in the real world with them! Can Hook truly have changed his ways and no longer be a villain? Can Peter change and see that as well?

A fun twist on Peter Pan and enjoyable! Loved seeing the Boys again in their grown up forms!

Really liked the premise, but somehow the characters came across much younger than their supposed ages (college aged). For that reason, much of the book made me cringe (and not in a good way).

felt like an infomercial about red flags. I was kept wanting more in terms of stylistic choices. good concept though.

What a fun twist on the Peter Pan story! I love how Hook changes his villainous ways and falls for Wendy in the real world.

I'm not much for pure romance so I expected that this book wouldn't be my favorite. It was entertaining and funny to read but I don't think I would read it again.
