As a fashion photographer, Ryan doesn’t get too many opportunities to rescue damsels in distress. But meeting Emily is the best thing that’s happened to him in a long time. So, he’ll help figure out who wants to harm this amazing woman. He’ll just have to make sure he can help her without dragging her into his own messy personal issues…

It is such a pleasure to discover stories that have everything that you love in a book and Secrets In Oak Creek managed to be one of those books that filled me with joy.

Emily works as a graphic designer and is happy being alone and working from home. When her beloved aunt passes away and leaves her with an inheritance, Emily decides to take the plunge and shift to the house in Oak Creek. Ryan Collins is a celebrity fashion photographer returning to his hometown for a much-needed rest. On the way home from the airport, Ryan witnesses Emily’s accident, a deliberate act by an unknown person that begs reason. Forced to care for Emily’s dog Bentley, Ryan helps Emily settle back to her home and sparks fly.

B K Stubblefield paints a picturesque town beautifully but vices and dangers lurk under the surface of this small-town as Emily understands that her aunt, a fierce protector of abused dogs was on the trail of something quite sinister and deadly. The romance that develops between Emily and Ryan was absolutely toe-curl-worthy. The smoldering sexiness and the burning chemistry had me devour the book in one sitting. The mystery is not too heavy to decode, once the details are brought to light but I loved Ryan and of course Bentley. Dogs in a book are always a treasure and here, Bentley is super cute helping the couple and in one scene literally forcing Emily into Ryan’s hands.

Easy to read romantic suspense, this is book #1 in the Oak Creek series, and Book #2, I understand takes their adventure further and I do look forward to reading it ASAP.

Absorbing ☔☔☔☔☔

A great read from beginning to end, packed full of action and suspense. Emily had decided to move back into her childhood home when her Aunt passed away. The house needed to be modernised, but to Emily it brought back so many wonderful memories of growing up staying with her Aunt and mother in this house. With the house came a Newfoundland dog, who Emily loved.

She was on her way back to the house driving her Aunts car when she found herself being bullied by another car, in the end the other car side swiped her pushing her over the barrier and rolling her car a few times. This was all witnessed by JD and Ryan traveling in the same direction. They has tried to video it but ended up being more aware that the car had been pushed off the road. They pulled over and ran down the embankment to the car, miraculously the driver (Emily) didn't seem to be too badly hurt. Somebody else had called the emergency services.

When they came and took Emily away all she could say was her dog needed to be looked after. Ryan told her he would look after the dog. He had taken the dog back to his house where there are a few funny incidents that go on. Both men visit her the next day to tell her that Ryan was looking after the dog. Ryan was drawn to Emily as she was to him, but nothing was ever voiced.

Emily had broken her leg and cuts over face from the windscreen when it shattered, she was released shortly after and Ryan picked her up and took her back to her house. While she was so incapacitated she decided to clear out her aunts writing desk, where she found several flash drives. With curiosity she loaded each one to the computer, most were manuscripts but the last one shocked Emily to the core. This one she shared with Ryan. This book is very well written and the characters are fantastic. The book is action packed.

An author friend encouraged me to try this author's work and so I purchased a Kindle version and I loved it. The storyline is an original one, no spoilers I don't like giving away the story. The author did her research about the major themes in the book and she penned a compelling believable story.
For a debut novel, B.K. did a wonderful job with her characters, the suspense and creating a small-town feel. I am a dog lover so I appreciated this content.
"The scent of bourbon-infused oak chips mingles with the savory smells of the different meats sizzling on the grill."
"Six-foot-two, dark wavy hair touching his broad shoulders, intense blue eyes that seem to pierce her soul, and a smile that could melt ice..."
"His strong hands not only mix and stir vegetables but also Emily's imagination. The thought of these hands caressing her body send a delicious shiver down her spine."
"I want to see the light shining in your eyes again."

This was a rather compelling romance/ crime drama. It reminded me of a lifetime channel movie. It would actually make a good movie.

The characters were lively and believable. I actually liked the good guys and I greatly disliked the bad guys. It had a good plot. Like all good romances the characters have issues that they need to overcome.

I am always a sucker for animals. Having a rescued bait dog and a abused parrot, there is nothing more powerful than helping a broken animal become whole. This book has a powerful message and honestly Bentley was my favorite character.

The only reason I give it a 4 is because somewhere towards the middle of the book it slows down and I found myself daydreaming instead of paying attention but then it picked right back up and I couldn't put the book down.

I received this book as an ARC from Booksirens this is my fair and honest review.

I'm a long-time dog lover and really enjoyed this story of romance with a mix of mystery, and of course, dogs! It was so easy to get involved with the characters, following their slow road to love for each other and their love and concern for the welfare of the pups in their community in serious danger. It's a great page-turner and definitely a 5-star debut novel. I look forward to reading more from this author!

I really enjoyed this book. It kept my interest from start to finish. Emily inherits her aunt's house and a mystery. To help her with the mystery is hunky Ryan and her dog Bentley. Mystery romance.

As usual, I came to this book cold. It's by a local, to me, author, and I had seen it around all the shows and decided to finally get it and read it. I'm not going to cover much of the story, you can learn that by reading the back cover or other reviews. What I will let you in on is the fact that while I've read mainstream books, and local works, and almost all forms of romance, this one goes the mainstream route. Just as things begin to get hot and heavy, the author puts in the three ellipses. After that, we're on to the next scene. So, if you were looking for graphic sex in this, you won't find it. The other things in this book that the author has done her research on is about illegal dog fighting. It's part of the story, but not overall graphic in its descriptions. I would have liked to explore more on some characters in the book, most notably Officer Woodard, but maybe that's for a sequel. Here's hoping.

Not what I expected. I expected some suspense. Maybe a little romance. And just a good read. A page-turner.

Secrets in Oak Creek comes in as my favorite romantic suspense of the year!
this year

What I got was way more. Secrets in Oak Creek was more than a page turner. I was turning the pages in the beginning. And then
half-way through I was on the edge of my seat.

The main characters Emily and Ryan meet when Emily is injured in a car accident. Which turned out to be no accident at all. And Ryan and his friend saw the whole thing. As they rush to help Ryan is begged by Emily to look after her dog. And so a friendship that turns romantic begins.

And then Emily finds that her aunt had been doing some sleuthing and collecting some information about illegal activities by some important towns people shortly before her death.

I was surprised with the subject matter of the illegal activities which included dog fighting. As Emily and Ryan dig they make it their
mission to help the police to catch the criminals and put them out of business.

Secrets in Oak Creek was a fast paced read. There were not alot of characters to keep up with making it an easy read.

Interesting I felt like Emily and Ryan hijacked the story. (the author discusses this topic in an interview over at Silver Daggers. ) Not in a bad way. In a way that they just made me want to finish the story to see what happens.

I didn't get a feeling that Secrets in Oak Creek part of a series but I would like to see more. I enjoyed the characters. I enjoyed the
story/plot.

There was a little language Ryan tended to spout a bit when he was surprised about something. There bedroom scenes are very brief and subtle.

My MaMa would probably really enjoy this once too!

If your looking for a good suspense with some romance check it out!

I received a complimentary copy.

"Ryan and J.D. stay close as Emily is finally tended to by the emergency crew. Ryan staggers up the embankment and walks next to the medics as they carry her on a backboard to the ambulance.”....

Emily returns to Oak Creek after the death of her aunt. Something she discovers in her aunts home opens up dangerous secrets. Someone is after Emily. Her aunt has started something that Emily may have to finish. A car accident, and the man who helps save her that day, become a new part of her life.

Emily makes new friends and settles in to small town life. A dog named Bentley becomes her new love as well. The local animal shelter plays a part in this story. Animal rescue is a theme in this book that I really enjoyed. It also sheds light on the dark side of what some people will do to dogs.

A bit different than the contemporary books I’ve read recently. Her new friends will help solve who would try to kill her, along with putting to rest the “Secrets of Oak Creek.” Is a new love on the horizon?

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals, and I gave an honest review.

Thank you B.K. Stubblefield

Loved reading Secrets in Oak Creek by B. K. Stubblefield. After the death of her aunt, Emily and her dog return to Oak Creek to settle the finances and remodel her childhood home where her aunt lived until her death. On the way there, Emily is involved in an accident where the other car sidestepped her pushing her over the barrier and rolling her car over and over again. JD and Ryan witnesses the incident and run to her and her dog's aid. When the emergency services arrive and take her to the hospital with a broken leg, Ryan promises Emily he would take care of her dog. This starts a series of mishaps, funny situations, a budding romance, and a dog-fighting crime ring that causes havoc on the inhabitants of Oak Creek, especially Emily. I was glued to this book from the start to the very end. Amazing action packed read!

This was a great book with mystery, suspense, some romance and a ridiculously cute dog. Ryan and Emily meet after someone runs her of the road, not only does he help rescue her but he ends up looking after her dog she inherited Bentley and while Emily recovers she learns of what her Aunt had ben up to as well as the potential reason for the attack on her. I really liked how Emily and Ryan slowly got to know each other and how she got to see what having roots and friends she could count on was like, then throw in the mix of a bit of danger along with mystery and suspense and the most ridiculously cute Bentley and you have a book you get lost in where you will laugh, worry, be happy and apprehensive along with other emotions.

Overall this book was great. Stubblefield has a good writing style that gave her characters depth. I really liked the two main characters and enjoyed their growth as people and towards being a couple. The storyline was good as well, with some mystery and danger woven in.

So why not five stars? For me the book was just a little slow in places. There was a lot of life ticking along in the book, which was great for character development and done well, but I found myself at times a bit impatient for something to happen. I know many people who love that style of book, and for them it would be a five star book, so if you are one of those people, then absolutely give this book a go. You will love it. For me, I just wanted a little more.

I enjoyed this story very much! When Emily returns to Oak Creek to attend her aunt's funeral, she finds out that she also inheirts Aunt Millie's estate. When she is returning to a Aunt Millie's house another car sideswipes hers. Ryan and J.D. witness this and Ryan also got it on video on his phone. Someone doesn't want Emily staying around in Oak Creek. What is the big deal here? Emily's aunt also rescued dogs and Emily is now the proud owner of Bentley, a large dog! Small towns hold large secrets sometimes, and someone doesn't want this town's secrets out. Why? Who is this person or persons? You will have to read the book to find out. This book kept me turning pages but if I put it down for a day it was easy to continue reading as if I had never stopped. The main characters were almost too good to be true but not so good as to be boring. I would definitely read another book by this author.

When Emily inherits her aunts entire estate it changes Emily's path. While in town for her aunts funeral Emily decides to relocate and move into her aunts former home. Knowing a dog fighting ring is a local problem, Emily finds some documentation of her aunts investigation and decides she will continue her aunts work.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

If you’re looking for a powerful fast-paced story and plenty of romantic suspense, this book easily rivals those written by best-selling author Linda Watkins.

The underlying theme of Secrets in Oak Creek is the cruelty of illegal dog fighting. It’s an insight into yet another horror inflicted on animals in the name of “sport”, but it also shows the compassion of those who work, unpaid, to prevent it.

“I want to see the light shining in your eyes” is said by Ryan to Emily, but it applies equally to the dogs rescued and adopted by people offering safe forever homes.

A great story that enthralled me and touched my heart!

**Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.**

Secrets in Oak Creek is the first book I’ve read by this author. This book has a little mystery and a little romance. Though the subject matter could be graphic and heartbreaking, it was more surface and less in depth. The romance and mystery felt the same.

I struggled with the writing style of this story. It kept me from being pulled into the story and from engaging with the characters. There were many things in the story that should have pulled at my heartstrings but didn’t because I wasn’t invested with the characters. And I did like the characters, I just wish there was more development of them.

Overall this was a quick read, with a mystery that is solved in the end and a romance that has a HEA ending. I think if you don’t mind the writing style, this could be an enjoyable story to you.

Emily inherits a house from her aunt but before she can settle in she's involved in a car accident. Or is it really an accident?

The first people on the scene agree to take care of her precious dog until she is released from the hospital. When Emily returns to her aunt's house, she discovers a note in her mailbox. "Stay the h--- out of our business." She and her handsome rescuer find more than an old house in Oak Creek. Secrets abound.

Secrets in a small town. Who would have thought?

Well-written and full of suspense. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed reading about Emily and Ryan, but I have to admit that the character who stole my heart was Bentley the Newfoundland dog. I loved the emphasis on Barkville, the animal shelter, and how people in the community brought what they could to support this shelter. Reading about romance is okay, but getting some wish fulfillment on a successful effort to rescue animals kept me turning the pages.

I loved this suspense story. Emily returns to Oak Creek after her beloved aunt dies. She has left Emily her house and her dog, Bentley. What Emily discovers in her aunt's house sets the stage for a well written suspense-filled story with believable characters that will keep you up past your bedtime to finish it. I would highly recommend it. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

An interesting read. Very good considering it's her debut novel. Some heavy subject matter...dogfighting, animal rescues, threats and possible attempted murder. Also some very sweet romance and sweet dogs! Main characters are very likable and the small town feel is very evident.

The story caught my interest - a good balance of action and romance. My main criticism would be Emily’s foolhardy behavior! If she normally investigated mysteries or had ANY self-defense skills to defend herself (or even had let someone know where she was) - great! BUT she was in a walking boot so she wasn’t going ANYwhere very fast! I hope she learned her lesson and will be smarter in the future!
