Spoilers for the second book: The heroine is pregnant by another man, and the hero, after her betrayal, switches to her sister. It's not something I want to read!

it will be very sad if the hero dies in the second book🥹

Whenever I'm in a lil slump, I turn to dark romance... and I mean like really dark. Think of the Inferno series dark.

Now this book, is exactly along that vein (kinda). It's depraved, our male lead here is the villain of the story and it's a tale of psychotic love and obsession. And just what I need. Hence, the higher rating given than it should've been.

Plus, it's short. And I love short dark gritty stories. Like dipping your feet in bubbling vile black oil rather than swimming in them.

P.S. This series is going to be a ten books mini series and also was inspired by the movie Fear (1996).

Perfectly predatory

I was immediately drawn to this dark novella told in a series of past and present scenes. The story depicts a captivated and obsessed Rex and an innocent Cat and their evolving, confining (and toxic) relationship. I liked its complexity and depth even considering its length. The author did an amazing job of showcasing points of view, illustrating fragmented minds. Of course I’m also a fan of the bad (irredeemable?) boy and twisted events. Additionally, lots of spice and a progressive pace, I can’t wait to read how this excellent series plays out. I’m sure to be gutted.

Have you ever read something so dark, something so twisted and so wrong and you wonder if you’re ok upstairs because you loved it? No? Well, have I got a book for you. This first of the series introduces us to Cat and Rexley. Two teenagers who meet and instantly have a connection. Rex is maddeningly obsessed and possessive of Cat. Cat has absolutely fallen in love with Rex. This book jumps between their sweet little high school love in the past and also jumps to the present day where Rex’s maddening obsession is straight up unhinged, unhealthy and straight up psychotic. Check your triggers because this is a doozy of a dark book.

Doesn't deliver.

The book doesn't deliver on the "stalker" trope it states.

Also way too much past and present makes it unenjoyable for me anyway. Also this is NOT a romance!!!

Wow what a way to start this deliciously dark mini series. I love how the book gets straight into the darkness and the crazy nature of the MMC.

This book goes from present time after the FMC has been caught by her stalker to when she started at a new school a few years before.

Whilst reading you get the possessive nature of Rexley from when they first meet to how delusional he now is. Cat is locked away in some very strange conditions.

I loved everything about this story and was hooked from the beginning.

This is a very dark book with lots of triggers so please read the warnings. It’s a fast paced read with lots happening 🖤

After that ending I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next 😱 fabulous start 🖤

I was hyped by the promise of a super dark romance with dubcon and a stalker hero, but the obsession/lust/"love" is way too insta on both sides:

The h after the first meeting "I feel flushed, and my panties are damp " 🤨 for what reason exactly?

Meanwhile, the H is instantly possessive and suddenly cringes at the touch of other women after seeing the h; I do like obsessive and possessive heroes, but I can't take him seriously when there is no building to the relationship or chemistry between the MCs.

I promise you’re not ready. Amber Nicole has gone pitch black… This first installment of Perfect Mistake is a wild mix of sweet young love, terror, possessiveness, and so many nerve wracking moments.
This story is being told in such a unique way with dual POV and repeated time jumps between “then” and “now.” We get to see the somewhat sweet beginning of the teens relationship and some hints that all is not well, before jumping to “now” where the proverbial shit has hit the fan.
This is where you need to steel yourself, as Rex’s treatment of Cat is truly disturbing and hard to read at times. Non-con, kidnapping, psychological abuse, and more.
But damn, I am so invested in this story and can’t wait for part 2.

Well I’m hooked and intrigued! He’s dark and I’m here for it 😈

This starts off with all sorts of mystery and mayhem so be sure to check your triggers. While I don’t personally find it Uncomfortable or too dark, I could see how some people would.

It’s interesting because this is a mini series so we don’t get the whole book and only a part up front. I’m definitely intrigued and want to know more because the current situation for our FMC suckkkkkkssssssss. Poor girl 😅

Too early to tell and give a full review but the start for sure has me interested to want to know wtf is going on, what the heck the back story is and how or will she escape?!

I know I'm probably not supposed to love Rex, but I really really do! I always fall for the psychos.

Perfect Mistake is part 1 in a dark, stalker mini series. Its very dark!!!! Check the trigger warnings!!

I can't wait for more in this series!!

Amber has given us DARK, and i am here for it!! We get POVs from Cat and Rex, who were young and in love. Then something happened and Rex has taken his kitty Cat back.

Perfect Mistake is a dark, twisted, fast paced story and I can't wait to see what Amber has planned for Cat and Rex!!!

As an author who loves to write and read captive/captor stories myself, I couldn't wait to dive into this one when I heard about it. While it's not too dark for me, people definitely need to mind their triggers. I'm excited to see how this mini series unfolds!

So no rating now maybe I’ll read it.

Speechless!! Holy s***! Rex is like 1000% degrees of f***** up, he’s sick, twisted and just so psychotic! And I kinda like it! Poor Cat.
They started dating in high school, he was instantly drawn to her and became extremely possessive- like ott crazy possessive. It jumps from the past to the present throughout book 1, so I’m not sure what exactly happened, but something did and it’s now the present and Cat wakes up chained, gagged and in a freaking dog cage! And to top it off they’re on their own private island he named after her. It kinda gives slight details about something major happening that separates them, and she ran away from him and tried to hide, but he obviously found her. Can’t wait to start book 2- now!!

I need to be honest, I would have like this book a lot better if they had put "then" and "now" Ask 2 different parts. Like the beginning of the book being then and the second part of the book being now. Does that make sense? It kind of made me dizzy. Going back and forth like that. So I didn't enjoy the book as much as I wish I could have. If I could bring into separate the 2, then it was a good story.

If you want a dark book, then this is definitely the book for you!!! Such an intense story with Cat and oh my, Rexley, what a morally grey man. I could not put this book down and man, it had me clutching my phone, all up in my feelings. I can’t wait for more of their story!

If you love those dark book's that one of the mc's checks all the boxes of being an obsessed, possessive dominant alphahole then you need to meet Rexley phew this guy gives a whole new meaning to the word possessiveness, and it's all directed at Cat, poor girl, how will she survives his love This is a quick dark read that will grip you from the start until that small cliffy and leave you wanting so much more of these 2. I'm asking myself wth is wrong with me that this book talks to me on so many levels, and this just Part 1 I can't wait for the next. There are triggers so check them before reading. If this is your jam you definitely need to grab it.

This book have lots of Trigger Warnings so you've been warned.

I LOVE Dark Romance and I tend to keep an open mind when it comes to books that comes with a list of Trigger Warnings. There are some trigger warning that I don't particularly like, like Cheating, R*pe, Child Abuse, Animal Abuse, but it really depends on how the Author takes that situation and write it in a way that is not too hard to stomach. Even though there are quite some TW in this book, it was not explicit or gruesome to read. At least not to me, so maybe I'm a little twisted in the head LOL!

Perfect Mistake Part One is a short story and a spin on 1996 movie, Fear, starring Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon. I've always like Mark's character, David, in the film. You can see in his eye, that he is unhinged and possessive of Nicole, played by Reece. This book is about Cat and Rexley and their very toxic relationship that is similar to Mark's and Reese's characters. This book jumps from Now and Then timeline, letting you know what kind of situation they are in Now and how it slowly starts back Then! I enjoy the dual POV because we get a glimpse into Rexley's dark mind and loveless childhood. I can see how he views Cat as this innocent flower bud waiting to bloom under his care and guidance and someone who would love him wholeheartedly. Cat is a naive young girl who fell for Rexley's charm. She's innocent and a good girl in everyway. To Rexley, Cat is the ultimate shiny new toy that's never been played with, innocent and pure. The need to care or "groom" his new toy is strong and he will be damned to let anyone touch what belongs to him.

We already know how possessive Rexley is when he keeps claiming Cat as his. It wasn't until Cat made a statement to Rexley that I feel really cemented the fate of their relationship.

"You're mine, Rex, anything that has happened before is non-existent now." His eyes widen, and he leans over to press a soft kiss to my lips. "I'm yours, Cat. I always will be."

It was that moment of what Cat said and Rex's reaction and response that really spoke to me how truly deep Rex took that claim to heart. All this time it was Rex who have been claiming Cat, but this time it was Cat who stepped up and claimed Rex. In my opinion, this was turning point where Rex's possessiveness and obsession turns deadly. He will do ANYTHING to keep her to himself. The saying "till death do us part", wont be strong enough to pull Rex away from Cat.

With that said, due to the title of this book, we know this end on a little cliffhanger. At this point, Cat is at Rex's mercy. Just have to wait for Book 2 to see how their situation pans out. I haven't read much of Amber's other books except the Forever Changed Duet, which I do love, so if this was her gateway to darker romance, I'd say it was pretty good! I enjoyed this and can't wait to see what else Amber have in store for Cat and Rexley.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I love dark, twisted stories (check those trigger warnings, guys and gals). I also love carnivals (nod to the smut scene in the Ferris wheel), so bonus points. Buckle up folks for this fast paced ride!
It’s a nice twist to see a story told not only in different points of view, but also in past and present timeframes. Watching the sweet relationship between Cat and Rex in high school morph into the present-day nightmare has kept me hooked.
She sees the red flags in Rex’s controlling and possessive behavior, but she seems to ignore those early warnings until she’s forced to acknowledge them in high school. Now, Rex holds her captive, and as we observe the repeated physical and psychological abuse, you hope she can hold on to her sanity.
We see Rex’s mental stability quickly spiral towards psychotic in the story, but I think he was just able to hide his mental illness better in high school. Is his version of crazy a result of nature or nurture?
What a great start to a series! I foresee things to drastically worsen in the next book, and I can’t wait.
So, when you’ve caught your breath after the cliffhanger, grab some cotton candy and wait in line with me. We’ll catch the next ride together!

When love turns into obsession. I love everything about the mini-series concept! What a fun thing to do, something a little different – this story works out perfectly. So, Perfect Mistake… it’s so good! It is very dark, and I mean that – VERY dark. You are not ready for it! Read the trigger warnings. It’s not for the faint of heart, and it’s not for everyone. It’s intense; it’s emotional. You’ve been warned. I enjoyed the heck out of it!

This is a story about that first love, the kind that gives you butterflies and your first kiss. It’s also about what happens when that person reveals their inner monster. This is a story about Rexley and Cat. It jumps between ‘Then’ and ‘Now.’ So, we get to see that beautiful beginning of their relationship but then it jumps to ‘now’ and you see the depravity, the darkness, the extent of Rex’s obsession. I enjoyed it, it’s a short story but it doesn’t really feel like it with all the emotions Amber managed to pack in there. It is a very twisted story, filled with obsession, fear, possessiveness, and more. I thought it was well done! After that cliffhanger, I am ready for part two. I want to see what happens next. This will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you love really dark reads you should check this out.

“You were my reason for breathing. For not giving into the darkness and ending my miserable existence. You are my angel of darkness.” “I never wanted to be,” I whisper. “I just wanted to love a boy the way I thought he loved me. I was so naive back then. I thought obsession was love. It wasn’t…”

What happens when love really is obsession? When feeling wanted turns into being possessed. When being someone’s everything is the most dangerous place to be? This book was so good! The darkness that exists on the other other side of obsession and possession is real. This may be Rex’s’ love story, but it’s not Cat’s. The prologue says it best…. “What happens when the monster is in your bed?”

I enjoyed the flashbacks that allowed us glimpses of how things started and the hints of things not disclosed but most likely came to pass. I look forward to book 2 and how the rest of Rex’s love story and Cat’s nightmare unfolds. Check your triggers because this book checks a lot of the boxes!

WHAT???

WHAT did I just read? Maybe because I am sick and depraved, but this story is amazingly dark! I don’t know how to describe in words my feelings towards the events in this book! I am on edge, it has taken my breath away several times, and brought tears to my eyes for Cat’s situation but at the same time I am over here obsessing over Rex’s next moves and how Cat will get out of it! Please please read the trigger warnings because this is definitely a very dark book. I love how it goes from then to now and both POV, because it gives you some insight to what is going on in each of their minds and the obsession that takes root! I am not shocked by the ending, but I am definitely seeing this storyline through to the very end! This author pulls you into this story from the very first chapter and never lets you go. I love that it was a quick but captivating read, but now I am mortified that the next book is not ready to jump right into because I have to find out what will happen next!

🖤DARK mini series(possible 10 books)
🖤fast paced
🖤dual POV
🖤kidnapper
🖤psychotic unhinged male main character

What did I just read? .. and why did I love it? Let me tell you.

This book was nothing like you have from Amber Nicole. It’s dark, depraved, and completely chaotic in the best way. The storyline is unique and kept me completely captivated.

Cat and Rex were high school sweet hearts. Cat realized quickly how obsessive and protective Rex is.. she shrugs it off.. she doesn’t expect things to get so out of control so fast. She runs… and eventually he follows.

I really liked how the chapters went from past to present. You can see how Rex gradually turns into who he is now. He’s not letting Cat get away from him this time. No matter the cost.

.. at the end of Perfect Mistake I sat there and wondered why I absolutely LOVE Rex.. am I okay? 😂 He has no redeeming qualities or morals but he is the perfect villian.

Perfect Mistake is the first installment of Amber Nicole's mini series of books.

I love that these are easy to read in one go.

Next to the mini series it is amazingly dark story. Perfect Mistake love story started of

as a young couple in love that turned into a story filled with terror, possessiveness and kidnapping.

I like the way the story is told with jumps between "then" and "now". Also with a dual POV.

We see how the relationship started. but also how it is currently going.

Love the cliffhanger. Didn't saw it coming, really well done.

BIG WARNINGS: How Rex treats Cat is not normal and can be seen for people as disturbing.

Non-con, kidnapping, abuse and more so before reading be sure to look for trigger warnings.

This book will not be for everyone.

I for one will be on the edge of my seat for the second book.

@ambernicoleauthor did me fucking in with this one! Hear me out I've only read 1 other Amber book okay (yes sue me I have a never-ending TBR) I was BLOWN away that she went this dark... LOVED IT!!! LOVE THIS FOR HER!!!

There is not one iota of consent in this book unless we talking flashbacks okay?? Girl is kept in a dog crate with a shock collar and SA repeatedly by the boy/man she was once in love with but he RUINED HER.

IF you like the 90s movie FEAR then fucking download this on KU asap. I swear to the LAWD if y'all buy and return I'm calling the OG DAVID and y'all know that bitch dont play.

Spice ummmmm this was a hard one to rate cause of the obvious consent issues. Im letting the damp-o-meter be a 3 okay cause like the sex when they were a couple and not deranged was HOT HOT HOT!!!!

The most tabbooist read I've read to date and the way its written absolutely capituvates. I devoured in one sitting. Amber this is outstanding and I'm desperate for part two!

Rexley is one possessive alphahole but damn if it doesn't make you want him *cough i love the psychos* Rexley is laced in darkness and his thoughts and actions will leave your jaw hanging wide open.

Cat the innocent love of his life. The girl he is obsessed with and damn my heart ached for her. Cat is not the girl she was due to her journey with Rex but they still have their moments and i am so keen to see where this goes!

This is seriously one dark themed booked with lots of triggers and yet i want to devour more of Rexley and where this goes!!

Amber you have absolutely nailed yet another book and the darkness is phenomenal.

Whew. I normally don’t do dark books but this one was worth it. Her flashbacks between past and present are written clear and concise so there is no confusion about timeline. She drops enough hints toward things happening that leave you wanting the next book and she nailed the deprived way a psychopath thinks. I can’t wait for the other books to see what comes next.
