Falling for the Rockstar

Rate this book
Arrogant. Delinquent. Hot as sin.

All words that describe Simon Ashton, lead singer and major pain in the ass. His talent is out of this world—hence the arrogance. But if he doesn't clean up his act soon, he may find himself reliving the glory days from the discomfort of an empty mansion.

That's where I come in, Myka Johnson, PR rep to some of the industry’s hottest artist. I get results and make a lot of money doing it. So when Meteor Records hired me to work my magic on Osiris's leading man, I jumped at the chance.

There's only one problem—no one told me the job include falling for the rockstar.

I really enjoyed this book and I've been going back and forth with the star rating between a 3.5 and 4 stars so I'm settling for a 4 as the lower rating just wasn't sitting right with me. So I was torn.

I've always loved a rockstar romance and this book was no different. Simon is a broken rockstar and causes a million and one problems for his band mates and everyone connected to him. In comes Myka the PR rep that is one of the best. She pulls all the stops out to save the reputation of him and the band.

Simon and Myka are an instant match and they have connection that neither of them have experienced before. This was a fun ride that they both went on. But it wasn't plain sailing at all. I laughed at the banter which there was so much of. Especially from some of Simon's quips. But the tears that flowed from harsh statements and jabs just flawed me at points. You do need to read this book to get all the fun and tears first hand.

I do have some problems with this story. Now don't get me wrong I liked the story and the characters but there were a few things that just didn't sit well with me. I'm from England and although a lot of the sayings and ways were spot on. I felt that at points it was a poor caricature of the boys in Osiris. But that was my only gripe.

This book is a huge recommend from me. It's a quick, insta connection story and so worth the read.

A captivating and emotional page turner!

Myka, a super successful publicist, is tasked with cleaning up the image of rock star, Simon, the lead singer of the band, Osiris. That means no more drugs, booze or potential paternity suits. He is not a happy camper!

Poor Myka has some problems of her own. Cornelius, her sleazy boyfriend, is not only cheating on her, but spending her money like its his. Nevertheless, Myka and Simon are smart enough to make the right decisions. But will they? Brianna and Amber, Myka's best friends, are hilarious and add a lot to the story!

I enjoyed this more than I expected. I liked that it wasn't an immidiate attraction that led to Micah and Simon hooking up/a one night stand, but that it was her denying his advances at first. And that it then proceeded going further later on.

But what I'm really annoyed about in this book is that Micah hadn't broken up with her previous fiance especially because he was a douche and was always claiming not to have any money and 'borrowing' from her and would 'pay them back later', well at least up until her dumped her at the Oasis event. And then it was revealed not long after that he had seen another woman who was 3 weeks from giving birth to their child...

But I'm glad thst it meant that Micah and Simon then proceeded with 'exploring' their feelings towards each other or at least their sexual tension.

But I will say that even though I'm happy that they got engaged because I really like they together, how they have so much in common and have fun and aren't pretending to be someone they're not. I will say that the proprosal is a bit fast especially after he got mad because she had shared at video of him playing the piano and singing without asking him first...

Simon Simon Simon

Simon the rockstar was a definite manwhore. Simon was hooking up with any and everyone to avoid being alone and to hide himself. Myka was in a stale uneven relationship with someone she didnt really love and who was only keeping her from opening up her heart. Simon fell for Myka at first sight and set out to show her the real Simon Ashton. Myka let Simon heal her hurt after her breakup and she finally realized how she deserved to be treated. Simon loved Myka and Myka loved Simon. They went through some trials but were able to overcome them. A definite worthy read.

Enjoyed!
I enjoyed the storyline and the main characters. I only wished it was more to their story afterwards. I would have liked to known what happened next because the story felt like it ended abruptly. 3.5 stars 🌟

A good read which pitted a strong, intelligent and caring woman, Myka, with a rockstar off the rails in Simon Ashton. I enjoyed the dynamic which set up between these two characters, though I did find Simon's reformation a bit of a challenge as well as his 'reasons' for his behaviour historically.
There was some great banter, hotness and fun and I totally loved Brianna!
Overall a good read.💖💖💖💖

I absolutely LOVE Simon and Myka. The back and forth energy, and obviously thick romantic tension between these two characters gave me EVERYTHING I ask for in a feel-good romance. And that piano scene....yumm.

I enjoyed this read and can't wait until the next installment.

Audiobook Review: Narrated by Aure Nash, Martin Martinez

Simon Ashton is the lead singer of the famous band, Osiris. He is known as the trouble-maker, ladies man, and the down side to the band’s reputation. In comes PR rep, Myka Johnson. Myka is known for getting band’s acts together and bringing them success. Simon is Myka’s greatest challenge because he isn’t ready to follow Myka’s strict rules and all his flirting doesn’t help the situation. Simon is a charmer and Myka is determined to not fall for his ways. That is until Simon begins to take her advice and his true self starts to show. Simon may not be so bad after all.

Not only is Falling for the Rockstar dual narration, but it contains noise effects that gives it that graphic audio feel. It took a bit to get used to but it really felt like I was listening to a movie and I haven’t experience that with a contemporary romance before! I usually only see this with fantasy books.

I did feel like the story wasn’t as exciting as I hoped it would be but this is a great introduction to rockstar romance. There are some funny, sexy, and cute moments in here. Unfortunately, I really hated that ending and felt like the relationship went from 0 to 100 but that’s okay. I just feel like everyone needs to experience this audiobook because it was honestly such a good time.

List of Themes in Falling for the Rockstar:
- MF Romance
- Dislike to love
- PR rep/client relationship
- Player MMC
- Ex drama
- Only one hotel room

My Ratings:
Overall - 3⭐️
Angst - 3💗
Spice - 3🌶

The story line was interesting. The band was intriguing. Simon started off as the typical douchey play boy rock star. Then Myke becomes the bands PR and is supposed to "fix them"...mainly "fix" Simon. Clean up his image.

Some things didn't make sense to me and some parts were weird or felt like they didn't really belong.

However, I felt as though the relationship between Myka and Simon progressed naturally and didn't feel forced. I liked that. The while relationship between her and Cornelius was weird and I just didn't like her in the beginning. I thought for a woman so smart and professional, she sure was dumb. I do wish there had been more of a scene and more drama though with the split. Like, it just was a flop break up and they'd been together so long.

I also felt like there would have been more drama with Simon. At the beginning he's made out to be this bad boy with all these paternity suits and trysts...and then he just boom falls in love with Myka and that's it? No woman comes forward with a plot to ruin?

Annd the ending...while I'm happy it's an HEA....it was rushed to me. The way things went between the 2 and the pain caused, it deserved more.

I really enjoyed the story-it was raunchy and raucous and the band was pretty cool and I loved the couples chemistry! They should not work but they do and create a perfect balance for each other.

Falling for the Rockstar

3.5 stars (rounded up for Goodreads)
2 flames

Tropes: Rockstar / interracial romance / reformed playboy / he falls first + harder / workplace romance / forced proximity

Falling for the Rockstar was my first novel I read from ML Preston. I recently met her at Steamy Lit Con and was intrigued by the tropes of so many of her books. I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a rockstar romance about a reformed playboy!

Simon Ashton was exactly that… a playboy who had too much fun indulging in the perks of his ultimate rockstar life. He was a dirty talker who had a revolving bedroom door and never saw the same person twice. Now, his bands label assigned a new PR rep to clean up his image.

Myka Johnson was now the PR rep to the hottest band in the industry. Being thrown into the Osiris band universe definitely has its challenges… the biggest one being not falling for the rockstar. Myka was sassy, determined, confident and a bit of a doormat. She had a dirt bag boyfriend, Cornelius, who constantly used her and didn’t treat her right… cue in Simon!

I did enjoy the storyline and both MC’s. Although, I felt the depth of character development did lack at times for me. If you are looking for a rockstar romance with Hallmark feels, this ones for you!

Such a shame 3.5 stars (contains spoilers)

The book was going so well. The relationship between Simon and Myka was progressing well. However the ending didn’t work for me.
Myka broke Simon’s trust and it doesn’t matter if it turned out fine in the end, it was terrible. Even more so knowing what the song meant to him and his family. She should have talk to him first.
I particularly disliked how everyone was trying to invalidate Simon’s feelings. The music business is murky, you don’t want your inner thoughts put out there without your permission. Yes he reacted badly, however considering the ramifications of her behavior both on a personal and business standpoint, Myka should have been the one going to him first instead of being immature and blocking his number.
The ending was also too rushed. They have barely dated, so it’s a bit soon to jump into marriage as as they don’t know how to communicate with each other. How is Myka going to deal with Simon’s fame during the tour?
Lastly the book fell into one of my main pet peeves. All the friends suddenly sleep with each other and become a couple.
By the way, how old are they?

Myka managers. That's what she does best. Then she accepts the challenge of managing Osiris but not just the band. She has to manage Simon. The out of control rockstar with no sign of stopping ahead.

Simon doesn't want to slow down and give up the life he forever dreamed of. He never expected fire on legs to walk into his life and literally stop everything in it's tracks.

Myka and Simon both develop beautifully through this story and I expected it to be mainly on Simon's side but Simon helps Myka more emotionally than she does him. There are some hilarious side characters who throw in their two cents here and there. Add in Simon's comments about Myka's ex and I was constany laughing.

I listened to the audio book and the dual narration was spot on. The narration for Myka was brilliant, Aure Nash hit every scene exactly how Myka was expressing it. Her passion for the story and the character made listening that much more enjoyable and immersifying.

I wish there hadn't had been so much background noise in the audio because it kept taking away from the amazing narration and story. It kept throwing me out of the book when all I wanted was to stay in this world.

Rating: ☆☆☆☆      Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Angst: 💣💣      Plot: 📚📚📚📚

Cliffhanger? ❌️

Tropes: rockstar romance, enemies-to-lovers, bad boy, BWWM

Simon Ashton is the arrogant lead singer of the band, Osiris. To say he's talented would be a huge understatement. Unfortunately, he's pure trouble with a capital T and if he doesn’t clean up his act he'll lose everything. Now it's Myka Johnson's job to fix his image. As a PR rep, she's very good at her job but what happens when she falls for the bad boy rockstar?

Rockstar romance is one of my favorite tropes so I jumped at the chance to read this one. For the most part I really enjoyed it but it was missing something. I'm not entirely sure what that something is. The communication issues bothered me and the ending was way too rushed. Otherwise I enjoyed my time reading their story. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

Still trying to wrap my thoughts around this one... it was the exact rockstar romance pallet cleanser I needed and the audiobook was a graphic production but there was one or two items that didn't quite land. I think Simon being British and stereotypical in his mannish ways grated on me a little. However once he turned on the charm it worked like magic. I loved getting to see his softer and emotional side.

This gave a realistic depiction of what it is like to date outside your race and added another level with the language/slang differences. Myka introducing him to Ne-yo's say-it, fixing him soul food and explaining certain phrases really shined a light on the cultural differences without making it about over racism.

Not sure if we are going to ge Sebastian and Amber's or Brianna and Andy's romance but honest it may not even be necessary. Overall a decent read.

👍

Simon was spiraling to self destruction and taking his band mates’s success with him … hence why they called for the very best PR for help , Myka Johnson.
The chemistry between Simon and his PR was 🔥🔥, however Myka was already in a relationship and did her best to fight it, until that said relationship exploded in her face … I can’t believe, she let that “Corn Dog”, played her like that!! 🤮
Anyway, I love Simon and Myka together 🙌🔥. Glad you came to your senses,Simon!!

I love Simon & Bastian’s family, and I was hoping for a glimpse of Myka’s parents.
Ps I was hoping for an extended epilogue and was hoping Corn Dog crashed and burned. lol

2.5 I struggled with this book because I just didn’t like the MCs all that much.  Most of the time with a romance, you’re cheering for the main characters through their struggles working towards their happy ending, but in this case, I was a bit meh about them.

This is a story in which a very capable female is having to babysit an unruly male in order to fix his image for his own sake.  An opposites-attract and mild enemies-to-lovers, this story left me a bit cold with too much angst brought on by terrible exes and immature behavior.

I did really like the side characters and would love their stories!

Learning the life of a rock star

Myka just had one job to do and that was to make Simon and the band Orsis look better in terms of the PR , but Myka met some it went from a bad first meeting to seeing another side of him . We watch Simon make changes while myka get emotional blows that he helps her thru and in between it all they get to know each other and myka proves she is good at what she does as the band is brought back to life. I would have loved to have seen what happened with amber and sebastian and Brianna and andy

Not Bad,pretty good

While this was a good story, its missing something. I think the chemistry was not as strong as I would have liked between Simon and Myka. The writer starts out with a really good idea, but somewhere we loose the magic. I think I would.have liked to have seen them more in dating and adapting situations. Overall it was good and entertaining, just not as good as I hoped. Also an epilogue would have been nice.

True Love Prevails

Such a beautiful story. It is something special when the right man or woman comes into your life. There are definitely ups and downs but true love prevails. That’s how this story is for me. We watch not only a man grow from boy to man but a woman who finds her true worth. Together they both built something that not only affected them personally but in their collective business. This is a good sweet read.

Absolutely beautiful

This was such a sweet story! The chemistry between Simon and Mika was beautiful from the start. I don't give a lot of deets in my reviews so as to not give anything away, but I will say that this story had a slow burn that was well worth the wait. For Simon, trust is paramount, and Mika was getting over heartbreak and trying to focus on both her career and relationship. Of course there is a an HEA, But I was worried for a sec!

Myka, work in PR, Simon is typical bad boy rock band singer, somehow those two will come together. Myka has her life together, strong, and has her life together, I love this character. Simon is the stereotypical womanizing rock star, but I like that he has a sense of loyalty too.

This was good. It definitely leaned in on the rock and roll lifestyle, which I like. Otherwise what’s the point.
There was a bit of drama, and I don’t know about the heroine’s taste in men - the hero only narrowly won me over in the end - but I did love the girl friends.
I would read more by this author.

Ok who doesn’t love a bad boy?! When you claim his heart and he shows you the secret tenderness or caring reserved for the woman he loves- then you’ve got solid gold! Simon can take me anywhere anytime anyplace !!

I didn’t even get to 10% of the book but the beginning was so bad. It felt crude. For how many pages I got to, there were too many sexual situations/conversations. Honestly, just unnecessary if the goal was for there to actually be a plot and character development

Nice

It was nice nothing special, I developed no connection or tie to the characters and had to make myself keep comg back to finish because of it. It is by no means bad. It just did have enough quality or development for me. Hope this helps🙌🏾
