Es como que le faltó desarrollo, algo muy común para una novela corta. Entiendo por donde el autor quiso llevar la historia, lo comprendo teóricamente, el problema es que no lo vi en la historia.
Ya leí tramas en donde dos personas con traumas se vuelven dependientes y se enamoran con el tiempo cuando se dan cuenta de que solo se tienen el uno al otro. Y cuando eso sucede, como lector, te quedas como "está mal, pero se hacen bien el uno al otro" y todo es un poco agridulce (no entremos en lo que es o no saludable, please). Me encanta ese plot (no entremos en mi salud psicológica, please). Y entiendo que esta historia es una de ellas, pero no la vi. Es decir, comprendo que el autor quiso darle ese plot pero, kinda que no lo logró.
Todo fue tan apresurado, y entiendo que es porque es una novela corta. Pero aún así, siento que este tipo de novela quedaría mejor con un trasfondo finamente elaborado y un slowburn intenso y agridulce. Pero bueno.
En fin, aún así la disfruté un poco.

It has been a long time since I last read Ka Bi Qiu’s works. I liked Sunset Boulevard and Handsome Friend but Social Outcast put me off so I stopped reading her works. I picked up Ka Bi Qiu again after a friend recommended this novel to me.
Before I started reading Demoralized Plaything, just from the title and the cover photo, I thought the novel would be toxic, heavy and full of angst. But as I read on, I found it otherwise.
The novel was pretty short so there wasn’t much to say. I was able to finish the novel in less than 24 hours. I like the MC’s uncontrollable and rebellious character. It reminded me of my own past. The romantic development wasn’t so smooth and was kind of abrupt. But I liked the ending and how the love between them was on equal footing. Both the ML and the MC were willing to give their everything to one another and let go of their selfish desires which was different from my recent reads. The author is great in writing smut scenes and it was the same for this novel. The smut scenes were hot.
It was an okay read. A novel that you can definitely finish reading in one sitting if you have the whole afternoon free.

My review might be a little too skeptical.
If you are looking for a light, slightly dramatic and exciting but short read, you are at the right place.
But for me, this was nothing. Nothing memorable. Nothing I’d recommend anyone to read. That doesn’t mean it was bad. It kept me reading until I was done so it definitely wasn’t boring. But it just isn’t something I’d deem a good read either. Definitely liked Outside the Law better.

Can’t say there is anything very special. And the story itself is short, so there is a time skips and not much of emotions and events. I think this gave me a feeling that all was too plastic. I wanted to see more of emotional development from both sides. It was too small.

i like the plot, the smut. the angst tho, not really satisfying. like i feel it could be more? but then it just dropped? kinda. idk maybe im not in mood for this thus 3✨
