I read this book in one sitting, it's so good. Really great worldbuilding with a unique take on vampires plus some nods to traditional vampire lore, layers of factions between the vampires, witches, and humans, and characters that jump off the page. Sarai, the main character, is so much fun to read and I loved the romance with Marcelle. Their chemistry is so great, their heat was sizzling, I couldn't put the book down.
Also I really loved the polyamorous representation! You don't see a lot of polyamorous V situations in reading, and I loved it, so well done! Really liked that there was a lot of focus on the f/f part rather than the f/m. Like, lots of books fetishize polyamory which can be fine but this felt real.
Super excited for book 2 and want to see where the relationship progresses and if new configurations occur! I have my suspicions but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Heads up though that this book has got some intense stuff in it, so pay attention to the content warning if you think it'll apply to you. I did, and I was good. Honestly, I think the intense stuff was handled really well. But I could see someone else not reading the content warning then getting mad or whatever.

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I'm just going to jump straight in. This is the first of the bloodline chronicles and I cannot wait for the next. I have been truly captivated by the story and the characters!

There is fighting, sex and discoveries, all so well put together that it has been a pleasure to read. Both of the main characters Sarai and Marcelle have heartbreaking backstories and have been through so much hardship to do with families that they find it hard to trust anybody, but they have found each other and it's like they've been made for each.

I really cannot wait to find out where these characters go and I hope they get the happiness they deserve.

A recommendation from me for sure

Witch’s Knight by Evelyn Silver is a delight for the PNR fan who geeks out over world-building and magic systems (like me!) I loved the details of the factions of characters which make up her world. From the different witch abilities to the vampire laws, this book has layers & layers of world-building which is 100% consistent throughout the book. (I’m a stickler about these things.) She plays w/ them to convey everything from familial loss to humor. For example, she says you can spot a vampire a mile away by their old-timey hairstyle because (in her world) their hair grows back to its style when they were turned within seconds of cutting. The vampires, made in the 1600s & before, have some real style issues which had me in stitches.

Our heroine is Sarai the witch on the run. She was a book bestie from page 1. She’s a good witch but not a timid doormat, powerful but not rich & entitled, and just wary enough of the vampire world to be credible. I loved her sense of justice which runs throughout the book. She uses her magic to punish those who act against her, but always makes her power doesn’t create a punishment more painful than the crime.

It is one of these punishments which introduces us to the first layer of baddies: the Hunter Humans. I say the 1st layer because when we meet Sarai, she’s on the run from her dad. As the book progresses, we are introduced to more layers of villains which sucked me deeper into the series. (You didn’t think I’d get through a vampire book review w/o a sucking pun, did you?) The hunters are a sect of humans who wish to eradicate magic w/ all the weird science & cult fanaticism we expect in this genre. I love that the author uses them as a catalyst for bigger evil…but no spoilers here.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book. This is one of those authors I’m going to pester for the sequel because I can’t wait to step back into the world of the Ellis Coven & Ulster Vampires. I highly recommend this book to fans of witchy things, paranormal romance, or multilayered, suspenseful, paranormal romance.

Witches and vampires are certainly good to pair together, and there is a lot of potential there, especially when necromantic magic is involved. Opening with a zombie rat (well, mouse) is certainly one way to go about it, and it sets off the chain of events that sees the witch Sarai end up with a rather powerful group of vampires - and becoming enamored with Marcelle, vampire knight, who swears to protect her.

This isn't a light read by any means. There is kidnapping, torture (not graphic, fortunately), violence, and plenty of blood - though the last of those is to be expected in a vampire story. But there is quite a bit of depth here, a well woven plot that starts in this book (and I assume will be continued in the second), and very interesting lore - I especially like the gift aspects of witches that is present here.

Most of the story is told from Sarai's pov, the rest from Marcelle's. This is a poly story (vampires aren't known for being monogamous), the main relationship being between Sarai and Marcelle and that is where almost all of the romantic focus is. Marcelle has another lover (male, with whom she has been a long time), but there isn't a lot of attention to that, for which I was grateful.

There is a lot to like here, and I did very much enjoy the the story. It's told well, is decently paced, and this arc resolves although it does finish on a light cliff. There is plenty of action along the way, the feeding and love scenes are well done.

NB: I received an ARC copy of the story. My thoughts and opinions on it are my own.

Loved the story. Balance between romance, history, fantasy, suspense and humor. Sarai was my favorite. She had chutzpah (sass). I love how the first half of the book elaborates on the fantasy world and really paints the picture with great descriptions. And in the last half of the book The Plot is tied up nicely, but there is suspense so you will not want to put it down. Looking forward to reading the next installment in the series

I've never written an in depth review of a book I've listened to before. I experienced this one through the full cast audio book and am coming at this from the perspective of both a queer woman and hobbyist level audio performer.

The good:
It was marketed as a bisexual polyamorous romance of a vampire and witch, almost exactly what I was looking for. I really enjoyed the story, the way the eroticism was handled, the characters, the world. The depiction of someone entering a poly relationship for the first time also felt incredibly real. Doing the audiobook as a full cast production was also an interesting experience, and in some cases I really wish more productions would do something like this, it really helped the characters stand out distinctly. The actors truly sound like they're having a blast, and it's obvious a lot of love went into this production.

The not so good:
Keeping in mind this is the first published novel by this author, the book feels very exposition heavy and the word choice feels a bit juvenile at times though that could easily be a taste thing. The first example that comes to mind is the use of the word druggie instead of addict.
The production of the audiobook itself is not polished. This may bother some less than others, but the audio quality sounded inconsistent to me. The voices were very obviously recorded in different spaces, with differing echoes and room tones. The timing with some of the edits feels awkward, there are at least two times an alternate take was left it, and two flubbed lines I noticed. The acting style is inconsistent across the actors, with some giving understated realistic performances, and others going deliciously campy. There was also at least one instance of a performer delivering a line with neutral affect when the text was saying they should be aroused. The repeating of the full book title before each chapter gets quite repetitive, especially with most chapters being less than 20 minutes long. The impression it all adds up to almost like it was originally released online chapter by chapter like a podfic. This is their first time doing something like this, though, and they admitted to learning a lot.

Conclusion:
The story has me hooked, and I desperately want the next book now! I'm really hoping that the entire cast returns for the next one, and I'm looking forward to seeing how what was learned making this book helps make the next production more polished. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a sapphic romantic story with a vampire (which I was) as long as you aren't bothered by violence and threats of sexual assault.

She’s a witch with a secret so deadly, it could transform the occult world for all time. Sarai is a witch on the run, always staying away from those who wish to wield her power for selfish means. She inherited rare gifts from her parents making her a dual threat. She sticks to the shadows, so she doesn’t draw attention to herself. But she cannot outrun everyone. After she turns a mouse into a zombie, she’s captured by witch hunters. Fearing the worst, she’s surprised when a group of vampires rescues her. One vampire in particular named Marcelle intrigues her. Marcelle is gorgeous, seductive, and alluring. Sarai is walking on dangerous ground, falling for a powerful vampire. Yet, she can’t help herself. The big question is whether Sarai can trust Marcelle with her heart when her blood holds a deadly secret.

Witch’s Knight is a paranormal romance I couldn’t put down. I’ve read a lot of paranormal romance books over the years, but this book is a true original. The premise gripped me from the beginning and didn’t let go until the very end. Sarai is a complex character with many layers. I connected with her and her loneliness. The descriptive narration was so immersive, I became a secondary character, able to feel and experience everything. The world-building was flawless and beautifully detailed. I thoroughly enjoyed the universe Evelyn Silver created. Both the action scenes and romantic scenes took my breath away. The writing reminds me of Lynsay Sands and I was extremely impressed. If paranormal romance is your reading jam, you need this book on your nightstand. If you’re looking for a fresh take on vampire romance, pick up Witch’s Knight. I look forward to reading more from this author. Highly recommend!

The witch Sarai Reinhart has been endowed with special gifts. Having fled from her father’s cruel grip, she tries to live an unassuming life. But she’s captured by a group of witch hunters, the Vasi, whose goals are either to enslave or kill witches.
An unlikely heroine comes to her rescue, the beautiful, if deadly, Marcelle, the Knight Commander of the ruling vampire. Once inside the castle at the center of the power of the kingdom, she becomes their “guest.” She’s surprised to discover, though, she’s attracted to the Marcelle. But wait, there’s more, the king, wants to send her on a mission.
Evelyn Silver has created an imaginative story built on an amazing world where it’s hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys. The characterizations of Sarai and her rare gifts that seem to be at odds with each other give you a glimpse of the complexity of her life. Silver gives the reader a slow burn of a love story, fraught with the very relatable doubts Sarai has over her place in Marcelle’s heart. The author will have you turning the pages, waiting for the next twist in the plot. It’s at the end, though, she really zings you.
Silver’s skillful plotting and engaging storytelling grabs you from the beginning. A creative addition to the vampire genre, Witch’s Knight, leaves you impatiently waiting for the sequel.

Independent reviewer for archaeolibrarain, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Here's the thing, right? I DNF'ed this book, 2 years ago, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why!

I really REALLY liked this book! It starts off with a zombie mouse, and then runs away with itself!

Sarai is a witch, with dual power. She is in hiding from her father. When vigilanties hunting both vampire and witch find her, she is saved by a vampire. Marcelle is second in command to the vampire king, Setanta. Who wants to use Sarai to form an alliance to fight said vigilanties.

This is wonderfully written, starting off fast and furious and not letting up. Mostly from Sarai's point of view, with Marcelle having the other voice, it really was a great read. It is quite dark in some places, with a slightly deranged witch doing despicable things to Marcelle that is on page, but I do feel that it is needed.

The smexy times between Marcelle and Sarai are not explicit, but they are steamy.

But the thing is: I can't see where this is going, nor how it's going to end. And it's frustrating! Sarai and Marcelle have a relationship here, and Marcelle (along with most vampires, if not all) are NOT monogamous, but the relationship between Marcelle and Setanta takes a back seat to Sarai and Marcelle. I think I would have liked a bit more of Setanta, either as a voice or with Marcelle. He's an interesting character! So, I've no idea if Sarai will end up with Marcelle, or someone else, or no one, because her father might get her!

So, the book ends on a bit of a cliff hanger, with Sarai being confined to the vampire stronghold. Not quite a kindle-throwing cliff hanger but nearly!

I have book 2, Midnight Fear to read next, which is the conclusion of this storyline.

4 very VERY good stars

Me and my craving for engaging, intense and interesting world building, tinged with dark and having a sharp bite, this time around led me to discover a new gem - Evelyn Silver and the Bloodline Chronicles. The story and the plot drew me in to the point that I completely lost track of time and finished it in a matter of hours. It has everything I love about fantasy world building - bonus points for the original twist on the classic depiction of witches, vampires and hunters, the overt bisexuality of the main characters and a female protagonist with a clear command and understanding of her powers, not a helpless damsel in distress - a witch with good judgement of the battles she chooses. Sarai is an intriguing box of surprises and secrets that I can't wait to see more of. This is one of my truly rare dips into sapphic romance and I'm very pleased with my choice to give this author a chance. It was totally worth it.

Lovely little read. Vampire romance stuff to me has often grown tiresome but I feel the author here has done well to keep things fresh and not tired. The vampires here are still beautiful which is preferable but are still dangerous and not to be trifled with, as they should be. All was rather enjoyable, but the best bits to me were the character moments of bonding and getting to know folk which I am always glad to see more of. And the author does not skimp on that, with even small characters (Bear is great) getting a nice distinctive personality.

The only reason it's a 4 and not a 5 are more personal things to me with my own odd taste that others would understandably disagree with. Still, didn't hold me back from enjoying it. I say if ye like vampires or the supernatural this would be well worth the read.

Where do I even begin! This book hooked me from chapter one. Sarai a witch with rare abilities who is hiding her abilities to stay away from her father and others who would use her for her rare powers grows so much during this book.

Marcelle, a vampire centuries old, and a 10/10 baddie, is the perfect companion for Sarai.

The world building, the action-packed scenes and the spicy scenes are to die for. I did not expect to be laughing out loud throughout this book but the author expertly wove in humor with the heartbreak and pain.

I cannot wait to see what Midnight Fear brings!

A quick, delightful book and universe to dive into. It’s nice to read a novel with a paranormal romance leaning to it that doesn’t fall on the tired sword of a love triangle, but embraces a polyamory world view.

There’s plenty of world building, and very little of the “should I, or shouldn’t I sleep with them?” trope that seems to power many PNRs. I’m enjoying the characters, and the tensions being built.

The ending is a bit abrupt, but I’m looking towards the next book in the series.

I was a little sceptical at the beginning of this book would grab my attention.
I needn't have worried.!

While the very beginning did, for me, start of a little shakey, it soon picked up pace, world building and imagination.

I loved the story and the characters.

It is also worth noting that this is my first polygamous and bisexual read. It did not let me down and only strengthened the bonds between the consenting love triangle.

I'm beyond excited to have gotten my second copy of this book! I received an arc and couldn't put it down. I love the feeling of holding a paper copy of a book that I've already fallen in love with as an ebook. I'm one of those people who flip back the pages to remind me of what I've already read. I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. I'm eager to read where Evelyn takes us!

Great book with complex world building that remains easy to follow. I fell in love with Sarai! Interesting story line that twists and turns with an ending that left me satified but wanting to jump right into book #2 Midnight Fear. The F/F romance and polyamory were very well done. I highly recommend this book.
