A steamy, single dad, small town romance set in fan-favorite Lost Harbor, Alaska with a free-spirited heroine and a grumpy hero who can't stay away.
Ice cream goddess and perennial life of the party, Trixie Tran lives life large, from her eclectic wardrobe to her offbeat perspective on, well…everything. No one knows her carefully crafted persona evolved after one life-changing summer during her teens, when a need to belong led to falling for Chase Owens, who betrayed her trust. Now, years later, Mr. Wrong has come back to her tiny town of Lost Harbor… and he’s not leaving until Trixie gives him what he wants.
With his young daughter in tow, rescue trainer Mac Brindisi is in Alaska to fulfill a short-term contract. Romance isn’t part of the plan. He’s also built a career—literally—out of shutting people out of his life. Despite that fact, he’d have to be dead inside not to notice the sexy siren who owns the local ice cream shop. When some rich jerk from her past sails into town, all his protective instincts are activated… and then some.
Turns out Chase is no ordinary rich jerk. Dealing with him will take all of Mac’s skills…as well as courage Trixie didn’t know she had. Can she afford to put her trust in a man again? Or is Mac just another smitten-in-summer mistake waiting to happen?

A return to Lost Harbor, AK, and a single-dad romance? Yes, please! This is one of my absolute favorite series ever, and I can’t get enough of this charming northern town where everyone has each other's back, and its quirky, colorful characters! And finally, one of my favorites gets to find love.
Trixie Tran seems like the good-time girl, with her quick wit, sass, and easy-going approach to life. As the owner of the only ice cream shop in Lost Harbor, Trixie has her finger on the pulse of the town. But for someone who seemingly hasn’t a care in the world, a blast from her past has Trixie ducking and hiding, with a little assist from the hunky tourist and his daughter who just walked into her shop.
Mac Brindisi has been hired to do ocean rescue training for the volunteers and first responders of Lost Harbor. His career with the military and life experience make him uniquely qualified, and he gets to spend the summer with his seven-year-old daughter while showing her a beautiful part of the country.
Oh my heart, y'all, this story!! Gah! I love everything about it. I’m a huge Trixie fan, and it made my heart happy to learn all the different dimensions of this girl. That sunshine and bravado hide so much of Trixie from other people, as well as from herself. But Mac, God love him, he sees the real Trixie. And he adores all the different facets of her. When it comes down to it, this is what we all hope for. Finding it is everything, and reading about it is the next best thing.
From subtly witty to laugh-out-loud hilarious, and sweetly tender to I'm-not-crying-you're-crying, this amazing romance was an epic emotional ride. I loved it so much that, once I got off, I was ready to run around and get in line to ride it again. Humorous, heartfelt, and holy-hot, with the perfect amount of suspense and danger, this epic romantic escape is one you need in your life. The perfect beach read, and one of my favorites this year, make sure you don’t miss this charming, satisfying romance!
To anyone on the outside looking in Trixie appears to not have a care in the word between the ice cream parlor she owns, the great group of friends she surrounds herself with and her energetic personality. While serving Mac and his daughter Piper the past she never wanted to face again resurfaces and Mac steps in to save the day.
Mac and his seven-year-old daughter find themselves spending the summer in Lost Harbor when Mac agrees to teach a water rescue course. He was drawn to Trixie before the incident at her store and now she is only more intriguing. He wants to protect her but that means uncovering her secrets and showing that she can count on him to be there for her as she faces her past.
Trixie is so much stronger than even she realizes and with the support of Mac they prove that as long as they are together, they can overcome anything that life throws at them and are truly meant to be.
Smitten in Summer is the twelfth (and last for now) book in the incredible Lost Harbor series by Jennifer Bernard, set in a small town that borders the beautiful Alaskan wilderness.
Truc Trixie Tran is the life of the party who owns Soul Satisfaction, Lost Harbor’s ice cream shop. Max Brisindi and his daughter Piper are in town for the summer while Max runs water rescue workshops. Max has made a life out of living in the shadows and keeping secrets. When a painful part of Trixie’s past surfaces and threatens, Max is ready to leap into action.
Jennifer Bernard’s characters leap warmly off the page, and Lost Harbor takes care of its own, whether native or adopted. Smitten in Summer is full of love and friendship and laughter and comfort, even and especially as Max and Trixie take risks and take action. I also appreciated how gently Ms Bernard handles Trixie’s feelings of otherness, and how she truly comes to see how deeply she is loved and treasured not just by a partner but by her family and community.
This return to Lost Harbor is perfect! Trixie has been a fun secondary character and totally shines as the heroine. Add in a single dad and you have the perfect summer read.
I don’t know what made this book special and different from the other Misty Harbor books but it is. I really enjoyed reading Smitten in Summer (and read it in one sitting) and I’m still trying to figure out what made it exceptional. We’ve met Trixie in several of the Misty Harbor books and she has always been a fun character. Most recently we saw her in the first Lake Bittersweet book, The First Love. Little did I know that the Lake Bittersweet book would be so defining to the character of the Trixie we know.
Trixie has always been conscious of being “other.” We find out she is Vietnamese. Her parents settled in Misty Harbor where there were no other Asians. Being small and different she never really fit in completely, and she especially no boyfriends. Until her summer working at the resort in Lake Bittersweet. While there she met one of the rich college boys, Chase Owens, staying across the lake from the resort. Against her friends’ advice she dates this young man with tragic results.
Years later, Trixie has perfected her sassy, wild, eclectic, life-of-the-party personality. Enter handsome, single father, Mac Brindisi and his daughter Piper, literally. They stopped at Trixie’s ice cream shop. Piper is a hoot. And loves the Moose Turd Fudge ice cream Trixie puts on her ice cream cone. I immediately fell in love with Max. It took Trixie a little longer. Mac recently retired from a career in the military which made him extra observant of his surroundings and of people. He now teaches ocean rescue training classes and just happened to be starting a session in Misty Harbor.
The intrigue and mystery soon start once the actors are all in Misty Harbor. I was pretty nervous anticipating what would happen to Trixie and Mac on that yacht. Nail biter.
This is such a fun book (you can’t beat the idea of the Harbor Hotties) but so serious at the same time (racial bias and blackmail). I’ve always loved how Ms. Bernard mixes current issues into her book plots. Plus, we learn so much about Alaska and in this book, ocean rescue training. As always, so many of the Misty Harbor residents walk through the action. Chief Boone, Nate Prudhoe, Maya Badger and her father Harris, and so many more of our Misty Harbor favorites including an introduction to Trixie’s wonderful parents. And even Lake Bittersweet residents Carly Gault and her brother Conor (who was one of the college boys that summer but who rescued Trixie from Chase). The only thing I didn’t like about the book is the cover. The female model does not look very Asian and the male model is not “compact” as Trixie describes him and he just doesn’t seem as intense as he is described.
Nevertheless, everyone should definitely read Smitten in Summer. This book is a winner.
Jennifer Bernard created another amazing story with Smitten in Summer, book twelve in her Lost Harbor, Alaska series, but there being a connection to the Lake Bittersweet series. I’ve been impatiently waiting for Trixie Tran’s story and the wait was well worth it, as Trixie falls for single dad, Mac Brandisi. Trixie is the fun-loving girl that everyone wants to be friends with. She is a free spirit with a wonderful dose of sass and a flair for dramatics; definitely not afraid to be her own person. Trixie runs the ice cream shop in Lost Harbor where she meets Mac and his daughter, Piper; while she is spying on a boat in the harbor. The owner of that boat is a blast from the past, the summer fifteen year-old Trixie spent in Lake Bittersweet, and a bad memory that very few people know about. When the owner of that boat comes into the ice cream shop looking for her she hides behind the counter while Mac stepped in to help her out of a very sticky and uncomfortable situation without batting an eye; despite having only met her minutes before. Mac is a very serious man who with his military training is very private and is uncomfortable opening up to people. Yet, sparks fly when Trixie and Mac are together and the chemistry between them sizzles.
Watching Mac and Trixie grow closer to each other was beautiful as well how Trixie, someone who claims to not like children, a “no-kid” person, fall for his daughter, Piper. That sunshine and bravado that Trixie exhibits hide so much of her from other people, as well as from herself. Mac sees the real Trixie. And he adores all the different facets of her. Trixie surprised even herself when she had to deal with the owner of the boat and what happened to her in her teen years. She was surprised by her strength in dealing with it and also in the support she got from her parents.
Ms. Bernard wrote an amazing, emotional, sizzling and heartwarming, story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with magnetic attraction, off the charts chemistry, and endearing relatable characters, helping Trixie and Mac find a loving future together. I highly recommend Smitten in Summer to other readers I can’t I can’t wait for Conor Gault’s book and I’m loving this mix of Alaska and Minnesota friendships.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
When I heard Jennifer Bernard was taking us back to Lost Harbor, Alaska for another visit, I was ecstatic. To find it was going to be Trixie’s story made it doubly fun! SMITTEN IN SUMMER is also loosely tied to her new Lake Bittersweet series, as Trixie spent the summer at Lake Bittersweet, and SMITTEN IN SUMMER builds on an incident that occurred that summer that has defined her life since. Trixie is shocked when Chase Owens’s distinctive yacht pulls into Lost Harbor. It’s been 15 years since she fell for Chase who played on her fifteen-year-old insecurities with a horrible betrayal. Trixie has spent the years since creating her larger-than-life persona and protecting her heart, but Chase’s arrival has her ducking for cover, much to the surprise of recently arrived single Dad, Mac. Mac and his daughter, Piper, have come to Lost Harbor for a few months after he was hired to provide ocean rescue training. When he takes Piper for an ice cream cone, he gets more than he bargained for when he finds Trixie hiding behind the counter. Mac and Trixie would seem like an unlikely pair, but he sees through her bravado from the start and quickly becomes her ally and more. I love the two of them together. Trixie has always been such a fun character and we finally get to find out more about her and what makes her Trixie. Mac is the perfect foil for her. Throw in his wonderful daughter, her new friend, Trixie’s parents, and the quirky and loveable residents of Lost Harbor who will do anything for Trixie (and each other!) you have a story that will make you giggle, laugh out loud, and keep turning pages! This book can stand alone but be sure you go back and read more about Lost Harbor and Lake Bittersweet. You will love every visit. Bernard has created a world full of characters you want to live in and writes about it in a manner that is fresh and fun every time. Thanks to the publisher for the chance to read an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own and freely given. #SmittenInSummer #LostHarborAlaska #LakeBittersweet #JenniferBernard
I found this review very hard to write. I wanted to share so much with you all but didn't want to give too much away. I like when I read something for myself and don't have someone telling me the secrets or shocking parts of the book.
The good news is that I can tell you that you'll love Smitten in Summer and the characters in the book. I totally loved Trixie and how she acted. She has a wicked sense of humor and can always have a comeback to anything said to her. She thinks of herself as just a free spirit that has no real responsibility but it's really the opposite. She works at a job she loves and takes care of her parents.
She also says she's not a kid person. All I can say is ha!
I so loved Chase and his "classified" answer to everything. It's funny but also a reason behind it. I love how great of a father he is and how good they are together. His daughter is so sweet and loving. Their relationship is s such a great one.
As these two get to know each other better you'll see just how perfect they are together. They find humor and support in each other. Some people should be together and these are two of those people. This is a wonderful story that you'll enjoy reading. Blog | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Welcome (or welcome back) to the small town of Lost Harbor, Alaska! Yes, everyone knows everyone else’s business but there’s also a very touching sense of community.
In Smitten in Summer, we meet Trixie Tran, a young woman who appears as though she’s living a carefree life, wearing eclectic clothes and operating an ice cream shop filled with fun-named ice cream. But Trixie is hiding a life-changing event that happened when she was very young, away from Lost Harbor but now that past has reappeared in the town’s harbor.
But Trixie is not alone. She has her Harbor Hotties burlesque crew plus friends she literally grew up with in Lost Harbor and…Mac Brindisi.
Mac, along with his daughter, Piper, are in Lost Harbor for the summer where Mac has been hired to teach water rescue training to the local first responders. But when he first walks into the local ice cream shop with his daughter, it’s Trixie who catches his eye - both with her looks and her open, friendly and carefree personality. This is in deep contrast to his personality which can be summarized as military classified…so while Trixie is outgoing, Mac is more closed off.
Trixie notices the attractive man under the “dad sweaters”…even as she’s telling herself he’s only there for the summer and she shouldn’t get involved with him.
But, their mutual attraction is strong and when Trixie is confronted by the person at the root of her past trauma, Mac is there to support her…along with all of her friends in town.
This story is filled with great characters, a wonderful small town setting, romance and drama. Lots of fun getting to know Trixie and Mac, and the rest of the town!
I have been waiting for Trixie to get her HEA and this did not disappoint. Her bravado and colorful lifestyle hides a lot about the real Trixie, but from the moment Mac meets her, he seems to see the real her. Mac is visiting Lost Harbor with his 7 year old daughter and plans on doing the job he was hired to do and then leave. He never expected Trixie. This is such a heartfelt story. Mac wants to open up but has never done it (and that closed off persona is part of the reason why he is divorced), so he struggles sharing parts of his life. Trixie brings light to his life and he doesn’t want to lose her. Trixie has been hiding wha happened to her when she was a teenager for years, but when someone from her past comes to Lost Harbor, the suspense starts. She trust Mac and fills him in on what happened (thanks to a Connor) and Mac agrees to help protect her. They are explosive together, each bringing levity to the other. Agreeing to casual while he is in town, neither expects to fall for the other. Just when they think they might have a future together, her past rears it’s ugly head and she pushes him away. Is all lost or can they find their way back together? I love this series and this might be my favorite couple. Strong, stoic hero who is patient and a wonderful dad and a strong, determined (yet vulnerable) heroine who is quirky and loyal help each other become stronger. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
This book had me from the very start. I have loved Trixie Tran from the time she walked on the page. She is an inspiration to women who don't care what others think of her. She doesn't seem out trouble but doesn't run from it either. I could see myself in her. But this book explains why she is the way she is. There is so much more going on with her that we couldn't have imagined. Her story is becoming more and more prominent but isn't talked about. Even she won't talk about it. Until she can't avoid what is sitting just outside the bay. Her help comes from an outsider but one who can defend and protect. Mac Brindisi is in town to train the locals on water rescues. He doesn't expect Trixie at all. But from the first moment he sees her in her ice cream shop, standing on a milk crate, spying on the harbor he's sunk. He sees her in a way that no one else does. He certainly has his own classified past that he can't share but he lets her on further than anyone. Is it enough for the ever curious Trixie? Besides why should she share when he won't? This was an emotional one for me. I wish that no one should go through the doubts that Trixie must endure. I wish that a man can be what he wants to be with the woman he is smitten with. And finally I wish this series would never end.
Not sure how to convey how much I loved this story. There are so many pieces that stole my heart that it’s hard to write them down. First, I loved Trixie (Tran). OMG, she is a hoot! She’s “small” but mighty – personality, feelings, her overall character. She is someone I’d love to meet and get to know. Her parents – so much more than you think when you start the story. Loved them!
And along comes Mac (Brindisi) and his young daughter – excuse me, Piper. (She insists, from the first time you meet her, to be recognized as a person. Such a trip!) Mac is trying to get his footing back in life itself, reconnect with his daughter, spend the summer in Alaska doing the (temporary) job he was hired to do. From the very first pages of the book, he gets drawn into Trixie’s drama and life; man do they hit It off! I loved him, too.
There’s much humor, snark, real issues and feelings to deal with – both good and bad – and an underlying mystery from Trixie’s past that haunts her thru today. Mac is there to help, more than we know, and they make a great team. Just loved them together! Add in Trixie’s parents and Piper, well, it touched my heart. And we get to visit with more crazy characters, from past books, to make this a recommended read from me. Loved it!
I have been waiting for Trixie's story since the very first book in this series and it is finally here! It has also become my favorite of the series also! I know that I have said that before and I am going to blame the fantastic storytelling abilities of Jennifer Bernard for that since each book that came out in this series didn't seem like it could be topped but of course it always was, lol! Mac has got to be the absolute most perfect book boyfriend ever and he was exactly just what Trixie needed to complete and complement all of the extraordinary facets of her very complex individuality! Plus, Mac came complete with the most adorably precocious daughter in the form of Piper who stole my heart from the very first scene. If this HAS to be the end to the series it definitely is going out with a grand fireworks finale but I'm secretly hoping that there will be a reason for Ms. Bernard to return someday with future lost souls whose lives need to be rescued in Lost Harbor, Alaska and whose stories are just begging to be told!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another fabulous trip to Lost Harbor. This time we get Trixie Tran’s book and she falls for single dad, Mac Brandisi. Trixie runs the ice cream shop in Lost Harbor and it is there that she meets Mac and his daughter, Piper, while she is spying on a boat in the harbor. When the owner of that boat comes into the ice cream shop looking for her she hides behind the counter and Mac comes to her rescue, even though he had only met her minutes before. That act made Trixie look at Mac in a different light. I loved the start of Trixie and Mac’s relationship, how Mac fell for Trixie and wasn’t afraid of his feelings for her. Also seeing Trixie fall for his daughter, Piper, even though she claims to not like children. This was a great book and Trixie surprised even herself when she had to deal with the owner of the boat and what happened to her in her teen years. She was surprised by her strength in dealing with it and also in the support she got from her parents. This was a wonderful book and I can’t wait for Conor Gault’s book next.
If you’ve read any of the other books in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series, you probably know Trixie, the owner of Soul Satisfaction, the ice cream shop. She’s an absolute joy to read about. You’ll be laughing out loud many times, while reading this book. Trixie’s love interest is Mac, a single dad that’s come to town for a job. I love single dad stories, so I knew I had to read this. I wasn’t disappointed. We also learn more about Trixie and her parents. I love how she stays close to them to help out her mom with her dad. When Mac helps Trixie out of a situation with a guy from her long ago past, she’s so thankful. This is lost Harbor’s busiest season, so rentals are scarce. She tells Mac that her parents have a mother-in-law suite that they may rent to him. Piper, Mac’s daughter love it, so they’re moving in. Grab your copy of this amazing book and catch up with some old favorites and fall in love with Mac and Piper.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I’ve been patiently waiting for Trixie’s story and the wait was well worth it. Trixie is the fun-loving girl that everyone wants to be friends with. She is a free spirit with a wonderful dose of sass and a flair for dramatics and she’s not afraid to be her own person. The way that she meets Mac and his little girl Piper had me chuckling. That was the perfect way for these two to meet each other. I especially loved the way that Mac stepped in to help her out of a very sticky and uncomfortable situation without batting an eye. Mac is a very serious man who with his military training is very private and is uncomfortable opening up to people. Watching him and Trixie grow closer to each other was beautiful and I found I couldn’t put this story down it was just so good and so entertaining. This story just became my new favorite Lost Harbor book. Don’t miss out on this great story.
This book had me at single dad romance. I'm so glad that I read this one. I just loved Trixie so much. I so want to be friends with her and her girl squad. I love that the people in this small town of Lost Harbor are a beautiful mix of people. Mac and his daughter stole my heart. I loved how they accepted Trixie and her parents. It was one of my favorite things about this book. Mac sees the true Trixie beneath what she shows everyone on the outside. I loved the sense of humor this book has. I chuckled and laughed through out the book. Though this book is mostly light hearted and fun there are some serious topics discussed. It was done very tastefully and brings awareness. The characters in this book are going to hook you right from the beginning. A great eclectic group of characters that make me wish I could go visit Lost Harbor because it feels like a fun place to be. Plus I would so be a regular at Trixie's ice cream shop for sure!!
Do you ever find a character that makes you smile every time you think about them? That's what I've found in Trixie Tran. What an amazing, courageous and unique woman she is. She's the type of woman you want in your corner, who will always have your back and will go to the ends of the earth for you. Can you tell I want to move to Lost Harbor and be best friends with Trixie (and maybe a member of the Lost Harbor Hotties)?
Jennifer Bernard takes us back to our favorite community of Lost Harbor, Alaska, where we catch up on old friends and meet a few new ones. New to town, Mac and his daughter Piper, arrive for the summer so Mac can train some community emergency staff for water rescue and he finds himself smack dab in the middle of Trixie's ice cream shop, her family and her latest problem. Funny, heartwarming and steamy, you can't but help falling in love with the story of Trixie and Mac as they find themselves smitten or something similar.
I liked that this book connected to the Lake Bittersweet series. I especially liked getting to know sassy, spitfire Trixie on a deeper level and why she was the person she was today. I enjoyed meeting sexy, single dad Mac and his daughter Piper. I liked how he was able to see through Trixie to her soul and to the person she really was. Mac was definitely smitten by Trixie. They both seemed perfect for each other, however Trixie did not tend to let anyone in on a permanent basis because of her past. It was nice that Trixie had a chance to deal with her past, be strong and come out a better person for her strength and bravery. She was a role model for other young girls. I liked that her parents and Lost Harbor stood up and supported her. I am going to miss this series since this was the final book and I think it was so appropriate that it was Trixie’s story. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I was completely smitten with Smitten in Summer! I love the Lost Harbor series and have been anxiously waiting for Trixie’s story. Jennifer Bernard made it worth the wait and gave us the additional bonus of a single dad romance!
I love Trixie’s out-there, wild and crazy personality, but my heart hurt for why she felt she had to be that way. It was heartwarming the way everyone rallied around her when her past was brought to light.
Mac is former military intelligence and is in Lost Harbor for water rescue training. He brought his daughter, Piper with him for the summer and is smitten as soon as he meets Trixie. Although Trixie states she is not a “kid” person, Piper definitely proves that wrong.
There is so much I want to say, but don’t want to give anything away. I’ll just end with this is a wonderful summer read that you do not want to miss. It’s heartwarming, liberating, romantic, and..well..just wonderful!
I received an advanced reader copy to leave an honest review of this book. I have read pretty much the entire Lost Harbor series and this book does not disappoint. Bernard has a great writing style and the plot flows smoothly. This is a fun, quick, romantic read.
This book follows Trixie who is a staple throughout the entire series for her quirkiness and fun outgoing nature. I was excited for her to get her own book. Mac is a great counter to her outgoing nature as he is very much a close the vest kind of guy. Former military intelligence he is not one to share but he is quick to step in and help/protect. That is what he does the very first time he meets Trixie and from there he is hooked on her fun loving personality.
Overall a great book with fun characters and good plot. Would definitely recommend.
Trixie Tran, ice cream goddess of Lost Harbor, Alaska. A true free spirit and all around fun person. The person who brings burlesque to Lost Harbor. The one who is up for just about anything.
Mac Brindisi, his whole life is classified the 'I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you' classified. He has changed careers and is in Lost Harbor temporarily with his cute as a button daughter, Piper.
Trixie is NOT a kid person. Mac is a happily divorced dad. Their chemistry is about to make them combust when they're close to each other, so they begin a temporary relationship with their eyes wide open.
When a long ago mistake comes calling, Trixie is a bit terrified about what this person wants from her. Mac decides to help, and Trixie's long held secret makes headlines...not only in Lost Harbor, but internationally.
I tore through this book, couldn't put it down, and then was extremely sad when it was over. Why must I suffer the sadness of loving and reading a really good book too fast!?!?!
Trixie Tran is by far the most fun, bright, shiny and just made me smile character Jennifer has ever written. I have adored her as a secondary character and she is A-MA-ZING as a main character!!! She's a that bright ray of sunshine that you want to see if you lived in Lost Harbor and the perfect partner to her more stoic single dad main lead, Mac Brindisi.
He's new in town, there just for the summer and with him is his seven year old daughter, Piper and while she's super cute, Mac as a single father is absolutely precious. Mac is former military, hence his formal and sort of uptight ways, but Trixie is just the medicine for him to break out the rare smiles that he normally saves just for his little girl.
While Mac is there on a job contract, he also turns out to be the perfect man to help Trixie out of a jam when her unfortunate past glides into port. Whoever would have thought the perfect flavor would show up in her ice cream shop and it wouldn't be cold and kept in her freezer.
This entire book is so fun, I seriously never wanted to leave. Like all of the Lost Harbor books, there is adventure and intrigue thrown in, with some sensitive topics this time around. I don't want to gloss it all over with the bubbly fun, but at the end of the day, Trixie and Mac are coming out on top as my favorite Lost Harbor couple.
I can hardly wait to see what's next because this mix of Alaska and Minnesota friendships has been a great blend.
I have become even more smitten with this small town after reading Mac and Trixie’s story and seeing how much he adores his young daughter, Piper. I love reading single dad trope in romance books and author Jennifer Bernard definitely delivers a wonderful, heartwarming story filled with love, laughter, family and friendships in her latest book, Smitten in Summer. I really enjoyed Trixe’s sassiness and fun loving personality even as she’s dealing with personal issues. I loved how supportive Mac was of Trixie and wanted to help her take care of things. The author also did a great job with her details of the Vietnamese culture in this story and I appreciated the authenticity. Another fantastic book in this series
I love visiting Lost Harbor and this was no exception. I have been waiting for Trixie's story for a while and this was a page turner. Trixie, ice cream goddess, is free spirited and always fun to be around. Mac, divorced dad is in Lost Harbor for the summer with his daughter, Piper. Trixie does not do kids but they can't deny the chemistry that they share, so what's wrong with a little temporary fun. Soon a secret comes out about Trixie's past and Mac offers to help.
This was such a delight a read that will keep you turning the pages. The heat will melt the pages as you turn them. It's sad to say goodbye to this fun loving town. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.
Smitten in Summer is the twelfth book in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series. This was a new-to-me author, and I was pleasantly surprised by the book. It was well written, easy to read, interesting, and had great characters. Trixie buries her painful history with smiles and a sunshiny attitude. She never expected Chase Owens, the boy who betrayed her trust, to show up in Lost Harbor or try to blackmail her. Faced with her past, she must choose between two painful outcomes. Mac had only come to Lost Harbor to train the crew on water rescues. He had traveled his entire career, but the warmth of the Lost Harbor community made him want to stay there. He never meant to fall for the carefree ice cream store owner Trixie. This was an entertaining book and I loved Mac and Trixie’s cute meet. I enjoyed meeting all the people from the small town of Lost Harbor and I loved seeing their backup and support for Trixie. This is one of those books you hate to see the end, but it left me with a smile. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We all want someone in our lives who sees us as we really are, and accepts us completely. That is who Mac is to Trixie. Sigh. Just perfect.
I loved getting the chance to read this book by Jennifer Bernard, it was just so well written and a perfect ending to the Lost Harbor books.
Mac and his daughter are in town temporarily, and his attraction to Trixie was NOT something he had ever planned on. Keeping himself closed off to people was what he had become a pro at.
These two really were a great fit for one another. I loved learning about all of the different facets that make Trixie who she is, and seeing how strong she truly is just endeared me to her even more. After an incident happens at her store, Mac is even more determined to protect her no matter what.
So, why took it so long to finish this time? I liked the characters truly and loved to come back to long time favorites. Trixie and her quirky ways were funny from the start und Mac sounded wonderful.
And still … I didn’t grab me like past books of the series. It wasn’t like I can’t put it down because I need to know how it ends. It was a fine, lovely read, but it somehow missed the special Lost Harbor spark… at least for me. The suspense part was rather boring, Chase Owens a douche with no depth at all. 🫣
Nevertheless I enjoyed coming back to lovely Lost Harbor and really hope we will return at some point. I mean, we still need for Ralphie to find his one and true. 🤭
This is the twelfth book in this amazing series, and this is Mac and Trixie’s story. Mac is a grumpy single dad to his daughter, and he is a rescue trainer, who is in Alaska for a short-term contract. Trixie is a free-spirited, fun-loving girl, who runs the local ice cream shop. The sparks fly between these two, and when Trixie’s past come back in the present, Mac helps her out. This is a well written small town romance story, with tension, drama, trust, emotions, humor, engaging and relatable characters, and love, which leads to an endearing and heartwarming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
