Elise Darcy grew up in North London in the 1970's, the daughter of two baby boomer school teachers. Her love of books began at an early age when trips to Regent's Park always culminated in a visit to Foyles, the legendary independent bookstore in Charing Cross Road. She has fond memories of exploring a veritable Aladdin’s cave of books; a magical place with winding staircases, old creaking lifts, and cosy corners in which to settle down and lose herself in a good book.
After university Elise Darcy worked in London before embarking on her writing career. She now lives in an apartment in a picturesque market town in Suffolk where she writes her novels.
It was slow paced to begin with but then perhaps ended up a little rushed at the end. Some actions by certain characters feel untypical of them and occur very sudden with little build up. Nevertheless it was a nice read. The biggest flaw to this book is that it was clearly written with the intentions of a series as opposed to a book that was successful and hence the story was developed. It left too many questions unanswered for me and ended at a point that felt perhaps a chapter or two too early. As I was left disappointed at the end of the book and cheated from a real ending I refuse to read the follow up books unfortunately, had the end have been better concluded I would have perhaps been more inclined to see where the following books took the story.
What a lovely book, by an author new to me and the start of a series set Suffolk. It's a lovely story, romance and some intrigue too.
Lili thinks she's being whisked off to Aldeburgh for a romantic well away with her, hopefully, soon to be fiancee. Her world comes crashing down and she finds herself in Suffolk with an 8 year old girl.
I couldn't put the book down and read in it 1 sitting, I became invested in the story and it's characters too.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, hoping for some of the questions raised in the first book are answered.
Anyone who likes romance storylines should read this book.
I liked the setting for this story and the general idea. It had a lot of interesting elements that no doubt the next book will fill in some of the mysteries not solved.
The wee girl was a bit of a brat though and didn’t seem to get more polite or be pulled up on her behavior which wasn’t fun. And when someone dies - the lack of empathy from Lili was severely lacking for her friend. She seemed more concerned for herself.
Loved this adventure of lili and Maisie and finding themselves Lili with what’s really important in her life and Maisie with her artistic talent , meeting Joseph and his family has opened up new beginnings and hoping many answers regarding the rings are revealed can’t wait to read the next book so addictive couldn’t put it down
A new author for me and not my usual genre of book but what a great easy read. The storyline is well written and grabbed my interest from the start. I was so desperate to find out the backstory of Lili and where the storyline was going that I read it in one sitting. But alas I came to the end and realised some questions were not answered and immediately looked for the next book in the series.
New Beginnings at the Harbour Inn (The Sunrise Coast Series Book 1)
I really enjoyed this first book in the series. There are lots to come so I shall be reading the next book in the series. I recommend you try this first one too. Written well by Elise Darcy
This book kept me intrigued. I just wanted to know what would be lilies' next move. I look forward to reading more in the second book. I hope its a happy ending.
I have just discovered this author, I'm so glad I did. What a wonderful story she tells. Romance and mystery. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
It's a cute and heartwarming read, though I feel the blurb is misleading as the main character doesn't really find anything out about her past. I do have some theories.
