“A House in Hana” is the story of Lani, a woman of Polynesian descent, who was adopted at a young age and grew up in upstate New York. She receives unexpected and shocking news that she has inherited a house in the remote, beautiful Hawaiian town of Hana, on the magical island of Maui. After her arrival in Maui, the mysterious and dramatic story of her biological mother and father unfolds, while Lani tries to decide whether she can afford to keep the beautiful but ramshackle house or not. She falls in love with the handsome and caring Max, the house’s caretaker. Lani struggles with one of the most important decisions of her life as her very presence in Hana rekindles the old feud that has embroiled the town for the past thirty years.
After translating many "chick-flick" scripts for the TV industry for the past twenty years, Birgitt decided that it's time to write about her own ideas. In her spare time, Birgitt enjoys obsessively collecting orchids and spending time with her husband, two teenage sons, their three crazy hounds and beloved cats.
I really like the storyline, but the book is not well written. I would love more details and for the story to not jump. I am now reading the second book because i was addicted to the storyline and have to know what happens. I am reading this while vacationing in Maui, so add a whole new dimension to the feeling of reading this. I love Maui after many trips here, so can relate to all the locations being mentioned in book.
My first book by Brigitt and definitely not the last, and not just because it ended in a cliffhanger, She is an incredible writer. What an awesome book. Romance with a mystery to solve. I thought I knew what was going to happen, but I was wrong. Lani set out to Hawaii to find out why she inherited a house from a lady she didn't know, not even by her name. Will she find the answers she's searching for or leave broken hearted.
I loved this book so much. One of the fastest books I've ever read. My in-laws are from Hawai'i and this reflects the amazing Aloha that I get every time I go back. I strongly suggest this book, it kept me guessing, it kept me emotionally involved, and it was definitely a book I could sit on the couch and read, and without thinking about it, hours go by!
For anyone wanting to escape and enjoy the sights & sounds of beautiful tropical Hawaii.. add a love story with some twists & turns making it somewhat a mystery read. Unexpected was recommended by a friend living in Maui. Can’t wait to start the 2nd one in this trilogy. Easy reading but keeps you interested. Would recommend
Interesting story but not well written, very repetitive and clearly not proofread! Many typos that are very obvious. She also states many things about areas on the Hawaiian Islands that are totally inaccurate so anyone trying to follow her experiences on their own could be greatly disappointed by the inaccuracies.
I loved this book. It has the aloha spirit. It features everything... romance, flora, fauna, mystery, delicious food and a virtual trip back to Maui. I've never been to Hana but this book made me feel like I have. Can't wait to read Birgitt's next book. Mahalo and aloha!
This book is a beautiful depiction of Maui. I've been to Maui twice and being able to visualize the places in the book is amazing. I look forward to following along with more of Lani's story.
This is my first book to read by the author.I enjoyed the setting! Who wouldn’t” Hawaii of all places. Her description of places Lani visited was great. I liked the characters too. Of course people have faults and so does Lani and others. I hope the mystery of her biological parents will be solved. I have already downloaded book #2 and will start it ASAP.
I really like this book. It’s a heart warming story. I’m so looking forward to the next book in this series. I am from Kauai and the Island spirit of Aloha is something I can relate to. Also the importance of Ohana is Hawaii. Robert Ericksen
