Australian Romantic Suspense Author, Nyssa Kathryn, is a passionate reader and writer of all things romance. Living in South Australia with her hubby and daughter, when she's not spending time with the family, she's either plotting her next story or got her head stuck in a book.
This was my first book from this author, so yes I started the series in the middle. Bit I didn't actually feel like I was missing anything because of that, other than the little shock that Flynn was some kind of super human experiment.
But overall this just wasn't a favorite of mine. The story felt bland to me and I never truly connected to the characters or felt a connection between them. I think this is just a me problem and this wasn't the style of writing for me.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍 Character development: ☹️😮😋😄 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Carina - she needed a job, she was a nurse in the small town of Cradle Mountain, Idaho after meeting the son of the home health care patient she was working fork. She had to talk to the son, Flynn again to try to change his mind about her. She came to town for a fresh start after the hell she lived through in Michigan and her fresh start will be in jeopardy if she doesn’t keep her job.
The Hero:Flynn - he is former Delta Force, who was involved in Project Arma, a unsanctioned project in which he and his team of friends and former military special forces were experimented on and given drugs and animal DNA to create special abilities. They were held captive for two years but now are free and they all moved to Cradle Mountain to be closer to his mother who has Alzheimer’s. The team owns Blue Halo Security, and they still do off-the-books missions for the government that non-enhanced men can’t usually do.
The Story: Carina was accused of stealing drugs from a patient back in Michigan, she was cleared, but Blue Halo Security dug up the dirt on her and Flynn used it as a reason to fire her. She begged for her job, and Flynn decides to give her another chance when his mom insists. He just broke up with Victoria, a doctor who wanted more from him than he was willing to give. Victoria was a bit too cold and unfeeling.
This book was pretty good. There were some threats against Carina and quite a few suspects who were against her, so you never quite knew who was behind it all. I liked how protective Flynn was, all the guys from Blue Halo are like that. There were also some other enhanced men that were against them, so that was another big question in the story that added to the suspense.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Connor Crais and C.J. Bloom. I am not that fond of C.J. Bloom, her voice sounds older than the twenty-something that Carina is supposed to be. Connor Crais has a deep, sultry voice that I really enjoy. He is one of my favorites, though his voice for female characters is not my favorite.
This was not terrible, but not great. There were what I felt ridiculous things going on in this book. The FMC was good, but the MMC was a bit much. And I am not a fan of insta-love. But it was fun at times, and I felt the chemistry between characters was OK.
So I’m just gonna be honest and put this out there. I really wasn’t as excited about Flynn’s book as I have been about the other books in this series mainly because of how he acted at the end of the last book. That only lasted until I got to about chapter 3 then I was hooked. Oh don’t get me wrong there was a couple of places I wanted to slap him upside the head and knock some sense into him.
It was crazy—he knew it was. To barely know a woman and need her like he needed air to breathe. But he wasn’t going to walk away from how he felt.
Carina was accused of something she didn’t do but it keeps following her wherever she goes. She’s been hurt and now she’s leery of trusting anyone.
“But, dear, if someone can get close enough to your heart to break it, then maybe they’re worth the risk.”
There was angst and suspense. So much I couldn’t put this down until the very end. Which also ends in a teaser about the next book.
He lowered his head, touching his forehead to hers. “I would choose you again. Without thought. Without hesitation. Every time.”
Carina really wants nothing more then a fresh start and wants the past to stay there and is hoping her move will give her just that and when she meets Flynn and they form a connection she’s not happy that he digs up everything she wanted to hide all while hiding his own secrets that are about to blow up everything. Loves this and the rollercoaster ride it took me on
I will completely admit that this book pulled the rug out from under me. Twists and turns running ways I didn’t expect and a shocker or two that were just WOW. I was completely engrossed from the beginning and read the whole thing in a few hours. I could not put it down.
This book is intense, intense, intense. There’s plenty of suspense, danger, that insta-lust/love spark with smoldering and steamy scenes, fun times and laughs, heartbreak and tears, mystery, lots of action, and some spiteful people that will have you gritting your teeth.
Carina left Michigan to start fresh after horrible accusations followed her everywhere. Her family knew she was innocent but the stares and whispers were all around and she needed a break. She arrives in Cradle Mountain with hope for a new beginning. She starts second-guessing that new start when she has a run-in with her new patient’s son. He’s gorgeous, intense, growly, and doesn’t trust her. There’s also her reaction to him…just one glance from his stormy eyes and her brain shuts down and she feels like she’s drowning. Then to top it off, her accusations have followed her to her new home and someone seems intent on running her out of town. As things get worse, she has no choice but to put her trust in Flynn and his team to keep her safe and find answers. But the answers that they find are worse than anyone had prepared for.
Flynn is former Delta and one of the owners of Blue Halo Security, formed with his former teammates in his hometown of Cradle Mountain. He and his teammates were kidnapped and their DNA altered by a secret military project called Project Arma. They’re trying to reclaim their lives after the horrors they suffered and part of Flynn’s is caring for his ailing mother and getting her the best care. When his mother’s regular nurse has to leave town, Carina comes to the rescue. But a background check raises all sorts of red flags and Flynn is dead set on her being around his mom. He’s drawn to her for reasons that he can’t explain and that bothers him on more than one level. When accusations are made once again against Carina, he jumps the gun and pushes her away – knowing it’s wrong, but his trust issues from the past deceit with Project Arma get in the way. When instances being to happen surrounding her, he steps up determined to help. He’s going to prove to her that he’s all in and she can trust and count on him.
This was a great book. I loved the characters and the storyline. Flynn and Carina are fantastic characters. He’s intense, sexy, growly, and total alpha. I love the way he is with his mom and the way he’s totally in with Carina. Aside from his one stupid lapse, which he knew was wrong right away, he was completely swoony. Carina was a total bada$$. She was sweet, kind, strong, and resilient. I felt so bad for her in a few situations and was seriously rooting for her towards the end. She completely kicked a$$ along the way and it was great to see! Though I would have liked to see her make Flynn grovel a bit more – the connection between them could not be denied (it was smoking in intensity) and under the circumstances of everything happening around them, the timeline balanced the story nicely to fit with the events occurring. The entire story was consuming but I loved the edge-of-your-seat ending with the shocking conclusion. Fantastic read!! I’m also very intrigued by Aiden’s snippet at the end. I can’t wait to see where Nyssa takes us with his story.
Carina has been hired to care for Flynn's mother who has been dealing with a dementia diagnosis. However, when Flynn does a background check he finds some not so great information and fires her. This doesn't hold thankfully, and Carina goes back to care for his mother. These two had an instant connection, but Flynn has a hard time trust people because of his past.
Carina is trying to move past the events that happened and forced her to leave town, but it isn't easy for her. She is a genuinely good person and wants to just live her life. But what Carina realizes, is that she isn't all that safe in her new life. Flynn is a protector thru and thru but being a lab rat for a couple of years has left him a little bit jaded. He wants to move forward and has been, but still harbors a lot of distrust. Tries to keep his relationships at a base level, but realizes when he meets Carina that just isn't possible anymore.
These two balance each other out, and while there are some hurts that happen, it works. I wanted more of the Blue Halo group this time around, only because they are such a vital part of this series, but I wasn't disappointed with the way in which the story plays out at the same time. We get a little teaser into the next book, which I both love and hate. Carina and Flynn get their HEA, and I can't wait to see more of this found family of characters in the next book.
Flynn and Carina were perfect for each other, and they were a great addition to this series. They both had trouble trusting people after being hurt so badly in the past (for different reasons), so getting closer to each other was a challenge. Yet staying away was even harder.
Flynn was wonderful. Protective, devoted to his very core, loving, and someone you wanted on your corner. Carina was sweet, caring, and resilient enough to handle whatever was thrown at her. After everything she went through, she was her own heroine.
Flynn and Carina were adorable together. Their chemistry was undeniable and their feelings blossomed organically. Reading them was pure delight.
DNF in bi tık üstü. Önermiyorum okumanızı ama ben 5. Kitap olan Aidan a bi göz atarım sanırım. Bu serideki ana karakterler Captain America gibi genetiği geliştirilmiş askerler. Twilight tipi vampir özellikleri var kalp sesi duyma süper hız falan...
When Carina leaves her home town to start a new life she thinks positive thoughts. Her friend is leaving a job and Carina can skip right in and help out and have a permanent job waiting for her. But when Flynn finds out Carina's background he does not want her as his mom's nurse. Carina confronts Flynn and they work out a deal.
Since they're first encounter Flynn cannot get Carina out of his head. And Carina is having all kinds of dirty thoughts about this beautiful man.
Carina meets the gang and makes some new friends with the girls of the Blue Halo men and then things start to go really wrong for her.
Accused of stealing drugs, teenagers egging her house, a bottle being thrown at her head, her ex won't take no for an answer, a bad skip in fall that leaves her knee a complete miss..... Carina is starting to think she is cursed.
Flynn and his team get To The bottom of some of the weird things that are happening, while doing so they solve a couple murders, save a couple from a stalker and protect Carina from even more craziness.
It was okay. A bit too much drama with their relationship and a few plot mistakes.
I did enjoy this book, but there were too many protagonists in it. The neighbours teenagers who are making Carina’s life a misery, Flynn’s ex who is a doctor and hates Carina, Carina’s ex who won’t let her go, and letters threatening her. (Really really obvious who it was doing that!) Flynn doesn’t want a relationship so as soon as there are questions about her stealing drugs again he turns on her. She of course forgives him way too easily. Then there’s the plot mistakes that are really silly.
Carina has been hired by a nursing agency to look after Flynn’s mum who suffers from Alzheimer’s and ? When Flynn finds out that Carina has been investigated for stealing drugs before, he sacks her. Without questioning her first, although he can tell when someone is lying with his abilities, and despite the fact that she proved it was false. So we were off to a good start with liking him!!! Not!
Eventually he accepts her back, but watches her like a hawk. He eventually realises she’s innocent but he doesn’t like that he’s developing feelings for her. So as soon as their relationship is tested, he turns on her. Really charming guy! Not!!!
While all this is going on with their ‘relationship,’ the team at Blue Halo are sort of under threat by someone else. It’s just way too much. It was actually getting silly.
One final point. Flynn’s mother at 36 when she had him, wasn’t an old mother! He makes the point that she was so much older than the other parents.
2.5 Stars. Unfortunately, I could not rate story higher. It is definitely, not my favorite of this series so far. Flynn was a turn off. Carina was great for a while until she wasn't. Her own self worth was hampered by quickly putting herself back into a horrible situation. Their story needed more to their ending. The only thing that was endearing was Patricia. This story was not worth my time. I was really disappointed. I hope the next story redeems this disappointment.
Well, Ms Kathryn... Again, you blew me away! You completely threw it all in there this time! Carina was a sweet woman who left her home and moves half way across the country because of rumors. Unfortunately rumors in the medical community tend to lead to investigations. Very similar to Child Protective Services, an investigation must occur on the possible something exists. This gives some immense power, ruins lives, guilty until proven innocent. Carina perseveres and now in Utah it's time for a new beginning, however part of her new beginning is taking care of Flynn's mother, hopefully you've kept up with the Project Arma men and Flynn's mother is how Blue Halo came about, yet Flynn naturally investigated Carina and isn't happy, even though Carina was found that the accusation had no real substance. Yet, half way across the country it followed her. All Carina wants is a chance at a new beginning without the past slamming doors. It takes some convincing, but Flynn gives her a chance to prove herself under supervision. Poor Carina cannot catch a break, opposing forces are coming at her from all sides. Neighborhood hoodlums in training, a jealous ex of Flynn's, and even Flynnnegins to question things and he has finally become part of team Carina. Carina doesn't understand, but this amazing young woman takes care of Flynn's mother, still insists they're just teenagers, and her ex shows to beg her to come home, which leads to even more confusion. Flynn still has yet to understand Carina sees good in people, and always tries to. Suddenly there's another man in loved in the story very much like the Project Arma men...I thought all the bad of Project Arma was controlled, gone, imprisoned... Wll Ms. Kathryn you got me, where did he come from, and what is his goal? This was definitely one of the more "chaos filled" novels of Blue Halo. Flynn and Carina simply cannot catch a break! It's all hands on deck! But, Carina is missing! The obvious is not the case at all! Frankly this novel shocked/surprised me three times! The man like Flynn physically, and two other individuals I thought were definite problem, but certainly not what I expected.
This is where I stop...you must read, this book moved so fast I was shocked it was over when I reached the end. The pace is definitely fast, the dialogue intense, and the descriptive written setting is such a pleasure to read ! And of course, I am in love with Courtney's coffee shop! It's integral to every novel. Okay readers: If you are reading this as your first Nyssa Kathryn novel 🛑 Stop Catch up! You certainly can read as a stand alone, but you miss so much... Next, Nyssa Kathryn's brain is amazingly scary! She continues to put out new Project Arma novels, Segway into a new series seemlessly, and not once have I been bored out of 13 novels since she began, or was available in the United States. But, bless Ms.Kathryn, all are Kindle Unlimited, catch up it's so worth it! In thirteen novels, one a spin off to great new series, she has not repeated an idea, it's always fresh and riveting! You absolutely cannot go wrong reading a Nyssa Kathryn novel, blowing your mind is definitely her forte! I cannot wait for the next novel, whether this series of her newest!
Congratulations, Ms. Kathryn! You keep writing, I and my crazies will absolutely need more, more, most...

Will he see beyond the rumors …
Wowowowwww ! Flynn and Carina are in for quite a wild chase. I even wondered if Carina might have a skull made of steel with all the blows she receives and still is able to think straight.
Carina and Flynn felt an instant connection, their chemistry is so over the top they can’t think when in the vicinity of the other. Yet, Carina’s past is catching with her and already damaging her new life. With Flynn’s trust issues, they dance around one another but when threats, betrayals and hints of wrong-doings come between them, whom to trust… Attraction does not make a relationship, so when blows rain down, their fragile romantic bond is tested to its extreme, will it snap when the pressure increases?
The author with this book is not kind with her heroes, their HEA will be amply deserved after everything they will have to face. With danger and betrayal surrounding them, what was burgeoning between them, will else strengthen or be irremediably damaged. For them to last, it will be a matter of resilience and faith in the other. 4.5 stars

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
I love this series more with each book I listen to, and this one is no exception. Flynn is the quietest of the group and the one I feel I knew the least about, compared to the others I haven’t listened to yet. I liked this story and the fact that Carina seemed to be cursed with terrible luck. The banter and dialog were witty and fun, and the story had a bit of an edge which was intriguing. And who doesn't love C. J. Bloom and Conner Crais?
Plot Summary: Once Carina was cleared of the charges against her, for stealing medicine from her patients, she decides a change is in order and moves from Michigan to Cradle Mountain. She is working as a private, in-home nurse for an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s, who just happens to be Flynn’s mother and the reason the guys picked Cradle Mountain as the headquarters for their security business. Ever since Project Arma, Flynn hasn’t trusted anyone outside of his teammates, and his mother. His trust issues force him to remove Carina as his nurse. When Carina hears the news of her dismissal and that she is now without a job, her stay in Cradle Mountain could come to an end. Not wanting to quit without putting up a fight, she convinces Flynn to let her stay on in a trial capacity. Initially Flynn is annoyed that he gave in and allowed Carina to stay on as his mom’s nurse, but as he spends more and more time with Carina, that annoyance quickly become an obsession. It’s a good thing Carina likes having him around, given how quickly he can assist when she gets into predicament after predicament. First it is the teen boys egging her windows, then the treating, anonymous letters telling her to leave, and on top of that her ex-boyfriend shows up unexpectedly and unannounced, declaring he is there to get back together, which is the last thing Carina wants especially given her new relationship with Flynn. But when the teen boys go missing and Carina and Flynn are accused by their mother of killing them, things go from unfortunate to dangerous. Especially when another secret about Project Arma is revealed, that threatens all their lives. Flynn is willing to do anything to keep Carina safe, even more so now that he can’t see a future without her.
Favorite Quote: “I would choose you again. Without thought. Without hesitation. Every. Time.”
Flynn wanted to be close to his mother now that her health was declining and he’s finally back from the torturous deceit he endured for two years. Two years taken from his mother and her health was getting worse. Now he just wanted to be there for her and take care of her. The nurse that has taken his mother’s regular nurses place is not a good fit for either of them. His background check on her came back questionable and he can’t have her around his mother. So, he does the only he can do, he informs the agency that she can’t take the job, even though she’s already started. He’s only met her once and she made an impression, but the background check has him questioning her.
Carina has not had any easy breaks recently. The whole debacle of her previous job and life is coming back to cause more trouble for her. She was lucky enough to get the job with the Home Health Agency in Cradle Mountain, but now that job is in jeopardy, and she will have to move elsewhere unless she can convince her patients son that she is the right nurse for the job. He’s a sexy man that has her tongue tied but she will have to get over that in order to convince him to give her a chance. Will her luck change, or will she have to move again?
I loved this story. Trust is something that does not come easy for some and when you’ve been burned by people you trusted, it is even harder to give that trust to someone. Fynn and Carina have both been burned, the only difference is that Carina isn’t sure who burned her, whereas Flynn was burned by someone he should have been able to trust explicitly. When danger finds Carina, Flynn will step up and protect her, but there will be a few bumps along the way since Flynn isn’t a man that gives his heart or his trust easily and when someone else he had trusted causes trouble for him, things get rough. Flynn and Carina will have a lot to overcome and when the danger knocks harder, Flynn will step up and protect the woman that won his heart. I give this book a 5-star review and can’t wait for more in the Blue Halo series.
Flynn Blue Halo Book 4 Nyssa Kathryn Narrated by CJ Bloom & Connor Crais
I love this series of Delta Force Men. Each has a similar background, but such different stories and Nyssa Kathryn gives it all to us. This one features Flynn. He is the reason the team has settled in Cradle Mountain. It's where his mother is and she is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. She needs some care and finding a trustworthy nurse is difficult. When his goes away, and Carina steps in to take her place, he is ready to take action. She is not the kind of woman he wants in his mother's home. But fate has other ideas. And what he thinks may not be true. That does not stop the niggling doubt even though his feelings for her are outweighing the costs. But strange things are happening now. The twins that live next door to Carina go missing and accusations are flying around. What is going on? Will Blue Halo be able to figure it out and keep everyone safe? I love this one for so many reasons, but I will start with Flynn's mom. There is not a lot of awareness for dementia patients, and this book portrays my grandmother perfectly. Some days on, some days off, Flynn's mom is true to life, has sage advise and love that can be felt down to his soul. Then there is the camaraderie of the team. These men have been through so much, and their loyalty to each other is unbreakable. Lastly, Flynn and Carina, what a pair! These two are so good together, but I am not saying why. Give this a listen(and the others in the series). It's a pleasure to hear their story.
And who better to bring it all to life but Connor Crais and CJ Bloom? Crais pulls out all the feels with Flynn. His anger and frustration is real, but his compassion towards his mom and love for Carina is unmistakable. Bloom flows with every feel. She brings Carina alive with her need to prove her worth, her understanding of her patient and her love. I enjoyed this teams performance.
Flynn and Carina’s story is an amazing fourth book in the Blue Halo series!!
I loved being back in the world created by Author Nyssa Kathryn. Her DNA-altered military heroes are ‘more’. Just ‘more’ of everything. More buff and strong. More honourable and super sensitive to the emotions and chemical reactions in others. More alpha and protective, and absolutely possessive over everything concerning their women. And this most certainly works for me in this book world that I love.
And I loved Flynn and Carina’s story.
Carina was having yet another bad day when we met her. She’s starting over. New town, new job and a struggling to maintain a positive outlook. Even so, she was a true gem and even if Flynn wasn’t going to trust her with the care of his mother, Mama Talbot had a different opinion, so...........🤷♀️ And there is nothing better than a massively buff alpha male conceding to the wishes of his mama 😂
And Carina’s response to the chemistry between her and Flynn left her speechless and stupefied. Probably pretty much what my reaction would be along with some dribbling on the side!!! He was definitely the ‘more’ I mentioned earlier for sure.
Life isn’t easy and sometimes Ms Jackson’s characters make mistakes and occasionally bad decisions, but always for the right reason and because no alternative could be seen at the time. In the Project ARMA and Blue Halo Security series she covers an array of tropes that will give every taste the best way to invest in reading time. From enemies-to-lovers to second chances, it’s all here and I highly recommend these sexy-super-soldiers as guaranteed great reading.
Guaranteed you’ll become as addicted to Ms Kathryn’s books as I am. 5-All-Romantic-Action-Suspense-Stars 🖤💙✦
Flynn's story was not my favorite from the series. Now, before you start dreading the worst hear me out. Did I still enjoy this book? Yes. Would I recommend this book still? Also yes. Why do you ask? Good question let me tell you. Flynn is super intense! He kind of reminds me of Kye or Bodie - From her first series Project Arma. I love his intensity, that bone deep feeling that he knew Carina was meant to be in his life, even with the twists and turns. I think it's Courtney that quotes in the book. "These guys have the protective gene in their DNA" and she is not wrong. Lol. Flynn is no exception Did I love Carina? Yes absolutely! She is freaking strong and has been handed a pretty crappy situation. Poor thing. I felt for this girl, and her determination. She is willing to put herself out there when her world was rocked. So again, what was up with the lower rating than usual. Well for me it was the timing for these 2 characters. I felt there was heat between the two characters but it was all superficial. I didn't feel their connection until way later in the book. I can do insta love stories that is not the problem, but I just felt this was too insta love with the underlying issues that Flynn had and that he didn't trust anyone. Except his team, their significants and his mom. This is the only flaw I was struggling with in this book. It does not make this book bad by any means! It may just mean. When I do re-reads for this series I may only read twice instead of 4 times like I have done with the others. Like I said. I loved Flynn and Carina. Loved them!! I loved the story, it was just timing for me. So I knocked off a star. Doesn't change that I will re read this story, I will still recommend it. I am looking forward to Aiden's book.
𝐌𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: To say this book was perfection for me doesn't sound like nearly enough to describe the feelings I have right now.
I am a massive fan of this authors love stories, she delivers each and every time I crack open one of her books. Flynn was just as incredible as the others. It is fast paced, action packed and had me eagerly turning the pages to find out what happened next.
Flynn is full on alpha protector and I loved that he fell first (𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘥𝘰). The way he not only protected Carina but also his mother was utterly beautiful and had me swooning hard for him. Carina, I loved her! She was strong and her determination made her a true pleasure to read. These two have chemistry people and it was barely contained within these page. The passion and fire they had for one another truely took my breath away.
When I say I devoured it, it mean 𝐈 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐓. I didn't put it down until the last page had been consumed. . . 𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳.
Highly recommend it. Also if you haven't checked out the other books in the 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 yet, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘴𝘬, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶?. . . 𝘎𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵!
Flynn is a former Navy SEAL. He and his teammates had been kidnapped and held hostage forcing them to be a part of experiment to create the perfect super soldier with enhanced abilities. Once that nightmare was over, they opened Blue Halo, an independent security company in the small town of Cradle Mountain, Idaho where Flynn’s ailing mother lives. When a new nurse is assigned to care for his mother, Flynn is livid and fires Carina. Upon his mother's insistence, he reinstated Carina as his mothers nurse and begins to get to know her better. Trust does not come easy to Flynn after what he has been through but he feeling all kinds of things for Carina that he is not used to. Can Flynn learn to trust and keep Carina safe when her integrity is questioned and she is in danger?
Another great book in Blue Halo series. This book can be read as a stand alone with no problems. Carina and Flynn both have ghosts from their past haunting them and when Carina's comes calling, things get complicated fast! This book had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next. I love Carina's character. She is caring, loyal, strong and sassy all rolled into one. Flynn is another great alpha male with the biggest heart around. I love reading this author's books. They have the right amount of suspense, the characters have a depth and backstories to them so you feel like you know them. Her writing flows and is easy to read. I am always impatiently waiting for the next book to come out.
I received a review copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
We are back in Cradle Mountain where Blue Halo has it’s headquarters. This group of men are former Delta Forces members that had been held in captivity, drugged , trained and made stronger when their DNA was changed. After another group from Project Arma helps them escape, their goal nowadays is to help others in need . Flynn Talbot is one of these men. He was the driving force to have the group reside in Cradle Mountain when his mother started developing Alzheimer’s. Needing a nurse to be with her while he’s working, the service company sends Carina Murphy. Carina has moved to Cradle Mountain after she left her job due to false accusations and a trial that destroyed her credibility. At first Flynn doesn’t want her working with his mother, but it soon becomes obvious that she’s innocent. As time spent together has them developing feelings, so do the threats against Carina escalate. Who wants her gone and why? It seems there are more than person as it was first assumed. Will Carina survive the danger surrounding her? Will Flynn be able to save her? This was another great addition to the series. It had touching moments when we see Flynn with his Mom. A reminder that Alzheimer’s disease affects not only those afflicted with it, but also the families. The story is filled with action, bad guys, good hunky guys, a well developed plot and likable main characters. Lastly, we get a chance to “visit” with characters from previous stories. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Flynn is one of the 8 men who make up Blue Halo Security. A company run by men who had been captured and held, drugged and trained as super soldiers. They moved here because it's his hometown, and his mother has Alzheimers. The new nurse, Carina, really needs this job, but she has a past issue on her background check. Plus, someone is trying to run her out of town. Then Flynn breaks up with the cold doctor no one likes, and she takes it out on Carina by refusing meds. There's an ex who doesn't understand the meaning of ex and two neighbor kids that love to torment her. Her life is crazy right now. Flynn is trying to take care of his mom, work, and figure out if there were more victims in Project Arma that no one knew about. Carina is a distraction, but not one he can fight. "Who is after who and why? " is pretty much the name of this one.
So much was going on in this book. They way everything tied together was crazy smart. Only thing I don't get was the way the hired gun was contacted. Everything else, made you feel like you were right there. These books are more about the drama and the building or fixing of the relationship, and not so much about the sex. There is sex in the book, but it's not a focal point.

Every soldier that was a part of Project Arma has trust issues, for obvious reasons, but Flynn took it to the next level. This whole book was about trust. Trust is such a simple thing, but it can be twisted into so much more. When you break someone’s trust it’s hard to get that back and that’s what Flynn struggles to do.
Carina is hired to be Flynn’s mother’s nurse. She is new to Cradle Mountain and Flynn has his reservations about her because of a false accusation in her past. He wants to make sure his mother has the best care as she navigates Alzheimer’s and he isn’t sure Carina is that person. Flynn quickly realizes Carina could never have stolen prescription pain meds and they fall quickly for each other. But as much as Flynn says he’s all in with Carina he still struggles with how to give her all of his trust. He makes a fatal error in believing his ex, even if it was just for a moment, and Carina isn’t sure she can let him back in.
When Carina’s life is threatened everything changes. For her, there was never a moment she didn’t completely trust Flynn, and she knows nobody will protect her better than the super soldier. While protecting her, Flynn works to show Carina he can be better. They fall back into their relationship pretty easily.
This was a good read. There was a lot of action and suspense. I figured out all of the twists pretty quickly, but the plot was still good and the romance, although fast paced, was believable.
This one was just ok. There were a lot of inconsistencies in the pacing, a few editing/grammatical errors that made you pause and reread, and just an overall cliche.
I have nothing against predictable or cliche stories, I often love them from time to time, but the FMC was the biggest klutz ever and not in a funny way either. She repeatedly made stupid decisions that could harm herself even if it was relatively harmless and he claim to be good at her job while making said irresponsible decisions felt off.
The entire premise of the story is a damsel in distress saved by a big strong man that she shouldn’t immediately want but does. But she doesn’t have to keep getting physically hurt to do so… I contemplated DNF up until about halfway then the story finally seemed to find some grounding. The intrigue of an outside threat kept me reading and I enjoyed how everything played out. Still pretty predictable but with a few subtle twists that had me surprised. I have no problems with instalust/love either but some of their interactions felt disjointed and rushed just so they could make out….
My final issue here is there was like .02 seconds of closure. I understand the entire story happened at a rapid fire pace but the ending left so much to be desired. It rolls right into the next book to keep you reading and with these being standalones I was disappointed to have no real resolution.
I disagree with some of the reviewers of this book. I think every single book Ms Kathryn has written is better than the last one. A few of them said the book wasn't their favorite or that it didn't grab their interest until later in the book. I, on the other hand, really loved Flynn, the latest in her Halo Series. Flynn and Carina's story grabbed me from the first page and kept me reading until I finished it. The hero was a super-strong, alpha male with a tender heart, and an over-protective streak--overall, a thoroughly likeable man. There were times, however, when you wanted to slap him silly, but then you turn around and root for Carina's to let him back in her good graces. Carina is the woman Flynn wants to trust and protect...but she has so many secrets... and he doesn't trust easily. Carina was accused of stealing drugs from her patient and even after she was exonerated she felt she had to leave Michigan and start fresh in another place. Unfortunately, her troubles followed her and Flynn decides not to trust the care of his mother (who has Alzheimer’s) to someone with questionable background. The problems both have to deal with keep you guessing how it will work out, and the story has all the mystery, action, and romance you can handle. You don't want to put it down, but you don't want it to end, either. Nyssa Kathryn has now made it to my top 10 favorite romance authors. (These are the authors I don't have to read the cover pages before I decide to buy or not. If she writes it, I'll read it.) I can't wait to read the next in this series. Take a chance and get the series; you won't regret it.
Another hit in the Blue Halo series, starring Flynn and Carina. Flynn doesn’t trust Carina and her past has him doubting she can care for his mom, fires her and tries to find a replacement. It’s not easy and in the meantime, his mom wants Carina so he allows it with supervised visits. Carina has no choice but to continue her care of Flynn’s mom, there are no other options in the small town and begins to prove herself to be the best care taker for his mom. Not only does she care for her charge, her feelings and attraction for Flynn grow as well and when he reciprocates, there is no stopping them….until he breaks her trust and a new threat emerges gunning for them. Oh man, I LOVED these two but I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical of Flynn in the beginning, going from one to the next so easily, wasting no time even if the first was the wrong choice from the beginning…..BUT I did warm up to him and his intensity and protectiveness that jumped off the pages for Carina. Carina was an independent strong woman, who didn’t back down and proved she was worth fighting for…and grovelling to get her back. The story flowed beautifully with steam, suspense, twists and turns and it seems there are more surprises coming for the Blue Halo team….CAN’T WAIT!!!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
I had mixed feelings going into this book for a few reasons - Flynn is the whole reason everyone is in Cradle Mountain so something big had to be made of his story - his behaviour at the end of the last book was a little less than desirable of a book-boyfriend-to-be -NK has yet to let me down when it comes to romance, suspense and awesome characters
Well luckily Ms K was well on form with this book and despite a little hitch at the beginning I quickly fell head over heels for Flynn and am now totally team Fly-Rina
I adored Flynn’s character and how close he was to his mum, totally acknowledging her influence on him and how she helped shape the man he is today. He was an absolute mummy’s boy in all the very best of ways. I loved how tenacious Carina was and even through all her challenges she was so determined to do the job/career she adored which made her such a selfless person in my head. All she wanted to do was enrich and support her patients to make the most of their lives no matter what their challenges were. It takes a special someone to do that job and Carina screamed that this was where her whole heart and soul lie.
Their love story was so complex and misunderstanding laden. No spoilers but I found myself frustrated with both at various times but loved how NK represented the non linear line that love can take and how when the heart is involved, sometimes the head can steer us wrong.
The underlying mystery unravelled at a pace towards the end and very surprisingly in some ways, there was some very clever word-smithing in this book that I actually noticed more as the story unwound and I reflected and had “a-ha” moments about.
Twisty, emotional, dramatic and super steamy at times this book is fantastic in its own right but added to the tension beautifully built so far, it ratchets up the fever around this series as a whole.
Eager isn’t the word I would use to describe my need for the rest of this series!!
Flynn is the next hunk from the Blue Halo Security Team to discover that special someone. We finally get to know Flynn better, seeing as his team moved to Cradle Mountain to be near Flynn’s mother as her health was declining, it’s great to get to know both. Flynn has huge trust issues and I can’t blame him after everything he’s been through. However, I was ready to give him a kick in the pants at one stage in the story. 🤣 Mind you, I think he’d agree! As for Patricia, his mother, she’s a beautiful lady and full of wisdom.
Carina is Patricia’s nurse and she is very caring and nurturing, she sure did choose the right profession. Having gone through trauma in her hometown she is aiming for a new start and if her patient’s son just happens to be a gorgeous upstanding citizen of Cradle Mountain—bonus!
Behind the romance and some drama Carina is involved in, there’s more going on and things start to go sideways for quite a few people. I love it when this author weaves multiple threads from a suspense puzzle and I then get to try to work out what’s going on. Ms Kathryn definitely knows how to build tension and drag it out until a thin thread is all that’s holding everything together—brilliant!
This book was amazing! Let me just say that I have loved every single book that Ms Kathryn has given us in this Blue Halo series, and each book just keeps getting better and better. All of her heroes are protective, growly, super strong men that you can't help but love, and that includes Flynn. Flynn was absolutely perfectly imperfect in every way! He's a little bit grumpy, quite a bit gruff and a whole lot of alpha male. I love a good realistic hero that, even when he screws up, he owns it and works hard to get his woman. Carina was the perfect woman for Flynn. He's a protector, and she's a nurturer. Because of their past, both our hero and heroine struggle with trust issues, but they both work so hard to overcome those issues to find their happy ever after with each other. The plot and the story line was fantastic! Ms. Kathryn weaves a story with the perfect balance of mystery, intrigue and action that you just cannot put the book down until you've crossed the finish line. And the steam...woo boy the steam factor in this book was sizzling perfection! You need to read these books like yesterday!! I am so looking forward to the next installment of this series!
