Captain Rebecca Tansky is facing a court-martial. Reilly and Mitchell have to investigate why she went rogue and committed treason by violating a treaty with a planet that has the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. Reilly knows there is more than what meets the eyes, and they need to discover the truth before Tansky faces a firing squad and the Alliance is drawn into a conflict that they can not win.
Matthew O. Duncan is part of the resurgence of Old School Sci-fi. His books are a mix of Military Sci-fi, Fantasy, Romance, and Mystery weaved together with non-stop action.
( Format : Audiobook ) "Everything was a chess move." A completely absorbing SF story in which Reilly and friends try to exonerate his friend and superior from the accusation of breaking the 'on pain of death' quarantine placed on visiting the planet New Terra, an action to which she'd already confessed. Fast paced, plenty of action, though not the usual battleship engagement kind, and an interesting array of characters. Including Max, a cognitive AI.
Narration by Dave Cruse was excellent: not only did he sound as if he was fully aware of what he was reading but also was enjoying the book also. Well timed and articulate, each character was given an individual and appropriate voice, both male and female completely believable. Not easy, and a fine performance.
My thanks to Free Audible Book Codes from whom I received a complimentary copy of Lt.Reilly and the Tansky Gambit, at my request. Although book four in the Lt.Reilly series, I'm can be read as a stand alone. Very human and fun, this is a good read.
Mr Duncan has written a masterpiece and , for me and anybody who reads him, has added to the creedence of the sci-fi genre. Life in the future will no doubt contain the substance that Mr Duncan so ably confers to us. I can’t envision all of it but certainly most of it. Mention should be made that this is a wonderful story containing a plethora of actual human drama in life with all of its foibles and happiness.
A very good read. Well conceived and internally consistent from beginning to end. Good character development, generally believable dialogue and good side stories. Enough tech and military detail to create believable future. Nice plot twists and extensions. A few artifices and periodic typos.
Good read, well written. And I have to add more words due to the program. Needs a bit of editing. The word oar was used when ore should have been at location 68 percent.
With Captain Tansky up on treason charges, Reilly and Mitchell try to clear her name. With little help from Tansky, they need to dig deep and uncover a conspiracy over 80 years in the making, that could reset the universe.
A good read. No killing of of significant good guys ( including sentient AI's). Happy endings for human characters. Not to much of long explantions (none) as to how the science of space flight works. More E E Smith than Heinlein or David Weber.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
This series is well thought out, lots of action. Believable characters and a fun AI sideline in the 3rd book. I like the fact that it has lots of action, but without the bloody details so many authors feel necessary.
Wow, excellent installment. You hit it out of the park with this one. Great story with awesome twists. Definitely recommend this series and book. You will not regret reading this book.
