FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley tracks serial killers, using her skills as a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst to get dangerous people off the street and safely behind bars. But prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe knows that just because a killer is incarcerated doesn't mean they're not a threat. His own father, Peter, is a serial killer--in prison but certainly not out of Sam's life, as much as he wishes he was.

When bodies start showing up with Peter's MO, Sam and Grace are both called in to consult. They've met before--and though Grace thought they'd made a real connection, Sam ghosted her. They'll have to get past the awkwardness and mistrust to solve this case--especially because it's about to get personal.

After really enjoying the prior book in this series, “Crossfire”, I was hopeful that I would enjoy this one as well due to Grace’s job with the FBI. I think this maybe my first suspense book with a main character being a behavioral analyst and those parts were really interesting. Grace was super level-headed and because of her education and personality, she views situations different than most Romantic Suspense Female Leads I’ve read and it was really refreshing. I know she should be level-headed in her career, but it was nice to see that and also how she didn’t get offended by anything. I liked her a lot, especially with her discussion about how everyone has choices since The Fall and how that correlates to the criminals and killers she analyses.

I don’t really have many thoughts on Sam, he was fine. Both him and Grace were very fleshed-out characters with very distinct personalities. I will say that the timing of the first kiss really annoyed me. Annoyed me to pieces, actually. Especially since when he snapped out of it, he realized how it was terrible timing. But elsewise, the romance was fine, in my opinion for me.

I did had a nagging feeling about who the killer was and ended up being correct. Which makes me wonder if I should work in this field or was it just a bit too obvious? Hmm. Things to ponder.

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the second book, but that was because Julianna was just the best. I did like it more than the first and also found it to be much less creepier than that book. Probably still not the best read for those sensitive to serial killer plots or such topics, though. ;)

Lynette Eason is a master at romantic suspense!

Her sympathetic characters, Sam and Grace, drew me into the story, and I enjoyed "seeing" them work together to catch the serial killer. Thanks to plenty of action, high stakes, and a developing romance, I needed to keep reading. This definitely wasn't one of those books that I got bogged down reading. I also appreciated the themes of family, justice, and love that wound through these pages. Lynette's fast-paced, clear writing style brought this book together and made it an easy read. I need the fourth book in the series now! Like Lynette's other books, Critical Threat didn't have any questionable content that would take away from my reading enjoyment. Although this is the third book in a series, I believe it could stand fine on its own. Characters from previous books in the series made an appearance, but even though my memory of the previous two books is a little thin, I didn't have any problem following along with the action. I'd definitely recommend this novel to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

Disclosure: I received this book free from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Critical Threat is the third of the Extreme Measures series and the story of FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley and Sam Monroe, both psychiatrists with the agency. They met at a conference and are brought together while working a case that might involve Sam's father. Grace is a strong, likable character. Sam is a good guy with children he is devoted to. Both Sam and Grace work hard and are good at their jobs. Lynn Eason is a go to author for me. I can always expect lots of suspense, danger, and a plot with twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. This one is edgy, and action packed with just the right amount of romance and a faith thread. Another winner for the author and great for those who enjoy suspense with romance and a faith thread. I received a complimentary copy for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts are mine only.

Lynette Eason is back with another heart, pounding, fast paced suspense. Urgency keeps everyone focused on finding a serial killer who is fixated on the heroine. The hero and heroine have to overcome extreme challenges in their past as they take the risk to explore what could be. A really great Reid! Those who love, romantic suspense will enjoy every page.

I’m loving this inspirational romantic suspense series featuring four strong female protagonists who met as teenagers in juvie. It’s been wonderful to see how life has turned out for them. I’ve always appreciated that Eason writes about characters who are flawed and work hard to overcome adversity, learn something about themselves and then live to fight for justice.

Check your queasiness factor at the door for this one! I’ll admit to skipping a few paragraphs when the serial killer was ‘at work.’

Things I enjoyed:
✔️unique characters; a prison psychologist and an FBI profiler
✔️clean, Christian read
✔️authentic characters
✔️plausible plot and ‘non lovey dovey’ romance
✔️action-packed suspense
✔️twisty mystery
✔️allowed readers to get inside the head of a serial killer
✔️gave the readers room to figure out the killer
✔️true crime feel

I enjoyed the focus on forgiveness and the exploration of guilt as much as I liked the acknowledgement that we need to deal with our past so that it doesn’t hamper our future. What stood out to me most was how one decision can put us on a journey towards a completely different life.

I’m eagerly anticipating book four.

Lynette Eason knows suspense. In this third book in her Extreme Measures series, she takes her readers on a wild, action-packed ride that twists and turns like crazy. Getting a glimpse inside the mind of a serial killer is a rough thing to see. Then there are all the surprises that keep popping up along the way. Totally riveting and attention grabbing, this one is for the keeper shelf.

My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion here is my own.

Definitely high-stakes, heart stopping suspense in this one. Grace and Sam are psychiatrists working for the FBI. Ever since Sam learned his father was a serial killer, he has wanted to help the mentally ill and help catch more killers. When a new case comes up, they work together to profile the person who is committing these bizarre crimes. It is early in their relationship, but things in the past could slow down the romance brewing.
The suspense is non-stop, the killer is crafty and now Grace is in danger. The characters are well represented and have issues that they want to overcome. The faith element is believable and solid.
Ms. Eason is a long time favorite who manages to come up with intriguing, fresh storylines that keep your brain active, trying to figure out who the culprit is.
Kudos to another fast-paced puzzler.

Critical Threat is one of my favorite romantic suspense I've read this year. With a serial killer loose and all kinds of sub plots going on I didn't want to put the book down. This book is the third in the series. I unfortunately, haven't read the first two yet. But boy howdy, I will be reading those puppies soon. Even though I haven't read the first two, I didn't feel lost or not understand what was going on. It read like a stand alone. Believe me, this book kept me guessing until the end. I had my suspicions of who did it, but it really was a surprise with the twists and all. This is a great read and I recommend to all romantic suspense lovers.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Extreme Measures series. I have read and reviewed the first book in this series before picking up this book, but I do feel this book can be read as a standalone. This book is super action packed and fast paced which I loved so much. I also enjoyed the characters in this book so much. I got pulled into the storyline so fast, and I really loved all the twists and turns. I cannot believe how this book ended, and I did not see it coming. I loved the ending so much. Great Read. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Revell) or author (Lynette Eason) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

This book is super action-packed and fast-paced which I loved so much. While tracking a killer, he sets his sights on Grace. Sam is a psychiatrist who specializes in serial killers because his father was one. The romance between Sam and Grace was realistic. It was a thrilling story filled with danger, heart-pounding suspense, and romance, though, comes with glimpses into the inner workings of the minds of serial killers.

If you enjoy an action filled fast paced read, this one hit that mark! From beginning to end this book had me page turning as fast as I could read!

Now this is the third book in this series, and yes, they are all as great as this one, but this can be read alone!

As we get into the case where a serial killer is targeting older women, we are with these FBI Specialists Grace and Peter, and really end up spending a lot of time together!

This read will keep you up late, and you won't know how it is all going to end until the last page is turned! Loved that there is an epilogue!

Teaser that there could be a fourth book coming! Yes!

Suspense at its best!

I received this book through the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Critical Threat is a clean fast-paced romantic suspense. We follow FBI profiler extraordinaire Grace Billingsley as she races against the clock to catch a serial killer targeting women. Along the way, Grace finds romance with prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe. Their paths intertwine as the chase ensues. The victims, the copycat serial killer, the past…it’s like a web with all of the pieces somehow connected.

The third book in the Extreme Measures series can be read as a stand-alone. It was my first Eason book, and I enjoyed it. The action kept me at the edge of my seat while the profiling process kept me completely engaged. At times, it felt like watching a true crime special. I am glad I ventured out of my normal genres.

Thank you Revell, NetGalley, and Lynette Eason for this ARC.

I love suspense books! I might have a problem because I read this REALLY fast... but I'm enjoying myself. *shrugs*

Chracters:
Grace was a great character...behavioral analyst sounds like a super important job and as like a hard one...but she seemed to handle everything pretty well.
Sam...I just loved him and felt so bad that people judged him based on his dad's actions. *hugs* That's so not fair, man.
All the other characters were great...I did wish that Mark had apologized to Sam... but we never got to see it on page, sadly.

Themes:
We are not our past mistakes... or the mistakes and failings of our family. We are responsible for ourselves. Other peoples choices are not our fault...really good stuff.

Romance:
A little bit... three kisses, moved pretty fast because Sam and Grace had met before the book started.

Language:
N/A

Violence/Gore:
This one is also about a serial killer...so 4 deaths, mentions of stabbing, being shot at, almost drowning, being attacked/stalked, tongues being cut out and finger nails removed.

Overall:
This one gave me shivers...I have a harder time with the villians who think they are doing right by God even though they are doing very wrong things. *shivers* wrong on so many levels.
But this was a good read and again...I loved Sam.🩵

4 1/2 stars!

I absolutely loved this book! This is the first book I’ve read by Lynette Eason and now I need to read all her previous books. This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It definitely had some Silence of the Lambs vibes without the gory details. The action, nail-biting suspense, slow build romance, mystery, and inspirational messages, had me devouring this book in just a few days. It was impossible to put down.

FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley has her hands full when a copy cat serial killer is abducting and killing middle aged women. A fellow psychiatrist Sam Monroe is called in to help especially since the killer has a similar MO as his serial killer father currently in prison. Grace met Sam previously at a conference and really liked him. She hoped to build on their connection, but Sam didn’t contact her again. Working together on this case is a little awkward at first, but they grow closer as they get to know each other and open up about their pasts.

The killer becomes obsessed with Grace after he watches her at his victim’s crime scene and begins stalking her. As the clues pile up, Sam realizes his father may have insider information but will he get his father to cooperate before it’s too late? It’s a race against time to catch the killer before he strikes again and prevent Grace from becoming his next victim.

I enjoyed Grace and Sam! Grace carries a lot of guilt over her brother which becomes even more burdensome as the story progresses. Sam is a real support to her as they’re trying to solve the case all while dealing with their own personal issues. Grace is easy to talk to and carries a humility about her that makes it easy for Sam to open up to her. Despite his reluctance to start a new relationship, he finds a deep connection with Grace. I enjoyed the way they were both able to be honest with each other about their past failings. I also liked Sam’s two teenage children. They were both likable and written in a believable, intelligent way. The killer is down right creepy! The way he goes after Grace and his ability to change his appearance had me constantly on edge.

It’s amazing how much the author was able to pack into this book! I thoroughly enjoyed not only the fast paced suspense, but also the romance, relationships, and element of faith woven into the story. It’s a page turner that will have you staying up late into the night. Highly recommend to romantic suspense and Christian fiction readers. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Whew! This book definitely took me for a ride! This is the third book in Lynette Eason's "Extreme Measures" series. Of the three, #2, Crossfire is my favorite so far. The action, twists and suspense in this one were great, but some of the crime details were a bit rough.
I wouldn't really recommend this to young readers.

Prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe/Romanos was interesting, and his kids were amusing. I loved Grace's character as a advisory special agent, and her tenacity for crime solving was admirable. Hers and Sam's dry humor was to die for. This mystery constantly kept me guessing until the last few chapters.

Age rating: 16 and up for blood, violent deaths, and crime scene details.

Thank you to the publisher and author for the complimentary paperback as part of Lynette's launch team. Thank you to Netgalley for the complimentary e-book. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own.

4.5 stars rounded up.

This is one of the two best books by Eason I've read--I've rated her books 2, 3, 4 and 5 stars because I find her books uneven, although they have consistently high average ratings. The blurb gives you an idea about what this books is about--two psychiatrists are part of a team to find a serial killer, and Grace is the one who is the FBI profiler. The blurb covers that.

So, what brought this up for me over the others? It was the voices and conversations between the love interests plus she broke away from certain romance patterns so common in books like this (but of course there is one). There were one or two things I didn't care for so it's not a full 5 stars. The other book that I rounded up to 5 stars was Hostile Intent and I gave the first book in that series only 2 stars, but this

As for this series, I gave the first book 3 stars and the second 4. I have no idea how I'll like the fourth one, but do plan on reading it at some point after it's released.

I had to make a rule for myself with this book. No reading it at night! haha. I'm such a lightweight when it comes suspense- especially serial killer suspense books. This one really kept up with the creepy factor until the very end. It was suspenseful and had great forward momentum. The ending felt so satisfying. So, so satisfying.

Grace and Sam have a growing friendship that turns into more throughout this book. They have complicated, difficult pasts that they still deal with which actually made them even more suited for each other than they (or I) initially believed. They worked together well.

I'm really enjoying this series! It's exciting and gets my blood pumping without crossing my lines of becoming too gruesome or violent. I can't wait for the next book. Is there a next book?! I really hope so!

I don't think you have to read this series in order.

Content: peril, death. Mild violence. Kissing. Some Christian elements.

Ok y’all. I loved Life Flight and I loved Crossfire, but Critical Threat is my hands-down favorite of the Extreme Measures series so far! Everything about it is just perfection. Deep layers, masterful suspense, swoony romance, great characters, and lots of grace (no pun intended).

Psychiatrist & behavioral analyst Grace Billingsley has intrigued me since I first ‘met’ her on the pages of Life Flight, so I was eager to read her story. And let me tell you – it did not disappoint in the least. Her family layers add some extra tension to her character’s journey, causing her to juggle a heavy weight of guilt over her brother’s addiction (and the boundaries she’s had to set) even as she races against time to stop a serial killer. Grace is such a great character – smart, savvy and strong – who had me solidly in her corner from the get-go.

Family layers are something that prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe knows a great deal about too. For starters, his dad is a convicted & imprisoned serial killer whose past crimes bear a marked similarity to the disturbing murders that have been ramping up in the area. The fallout of his dad’s identity destroyed Sam’s marriage (though his former mother-in-law lives with Sam so that should tell you something about his ex-wife lol) so he’s hesitant to get involved with Grace even though his heart definitely pulls that direction. I really loved Sam and Grace – individually and together – and their swoony romance gave me all the feels.

Romance doesn’t dominate the story though because, you know, they’re kinda tied up with this serial killer and time is running out to figure out who’s behind the gruesome killings. I have to admit here that I was COMPLETELY taken off guard when they started to figure it out. I caught up quickly but there was an audible gasp coming from my direction when clues started clicking into place. I adore suspense reads that surprise me so fully, and Critical Threat did just that.

Bottom Line: Serial killers are piling up almost as quickly as bodies in Critical Threat and Lynette Eason does a stellar job once again of creating a riveting read that you won’t be able to put down. Sam and Grace make a formidable team in the FBI task force’s high-stakes mission to catch the killer – or killers – before more bodies taunt them, and I loved watching them work together and, of course, fall in love. Their romance is just as sweet as it is swoony, and they equally support the other in their respective struggles. All of the books in this series are outstanding, but this one quickly became my favorite. Looking forward to book four and Raina’s story next!

It was a pleasure to visit one of the four friends that forged a lasting relationship when they were teenagers. As teenagers the four separately got into trouble and became friends in a rehabilitation program for juvenile delinquents.

FBI Agent Grace Billingsley is a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst. In Critical Threat her skills come into play as the FBI searches for a serial killer that is targeting middle aged women. As Grace works toward finding the common thread among the victims and profiling the serial killer, she is also dealing with a brother addicted to drugs.

The action is strong in second half of the novel as the FBI zeroes in on their list of suspects.

My gratitude to publisher Revell for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Critical Threat is the third book in the Extreme Measures series and what a book. This book is full of suspense and some great twists and turns. There was a creepy factor that was perfect for the book. The killer in this story leaves a Bible Scripture with each victim he leaves behind. It reminded me of the show Criminal Minds. The mind of a serial killer is truly crazy.

The characters were engaging and relatable. I really enjoyed watching Grace and Sam and their growth throughout the story. My only complaint is the romance is light. Definitely the main thing in this book is the suspense and catching the killer.

I loved that the story has a strong faith thread. It flowed well and naturally. Mrs. Eason definitely knows how to write a suspense story and I can't even imagine the research she must have done to give us such vivid details into the mind of a killer.

Overall I thought the story was great and if you enjoy Christian Suspense then you will definitely enjoy this series!

Critical Threat, Book 3 in Lynette Eason's Extreme Measures series, is another example of her well-written, edge-of-your-seat suspense.

There are several elements in this book that make her suspense stories satisfying to read. One is the way she introduces and develop her characters. She tells you what you need to know, when you need to know it, keeping the interest level and guessing level high. The "bad guy" is introduced early, but gradually, so that whether you are caught off guard about who he is or you figure it out on your own, you understand a lot of what got him to the point of what he did. I don't know that I've ever read one of her books without doing a lot of guessing and changing my mind as I try to see how all the pieces come together. I appreciate the well-crafted faith element that feels very natural as it is worked into the story.

Critical Threat is the third book in a series, and there are several characters from the other books who make appearances. But no important details from the first books really carry over, so there is no problem in reading this one as a stand-alone.

I highly recommend Critical Threat to fans of great inspirational romantic suspense. I am looking forward to one more promised story yet to come in this Extreme Measures series.

Thanks to Revell Reads for providing a copy of the book. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.

The plot in this story is amazing. The storyline moves at an incredibly fast pace making it very hard to put down. Many twists and turns keep the reader engaged throughout the story. The romance is very much in the background in comparison to many romantic suspense novels, and I am very much ok with that. I really prefer the mystery and suspense to be front and center in my reads.

The characters are interesting, and they definitely have fascinating jobs. The whole idea of how they try to catch a serial killer has always fascinated me. How does one try to think like them? Or figure the why of such evil? These are just a few interesting topics this book will cover.

I’d really liked it if this book had a strong faith theme throughout. It does give onetowards the end for which I was thankful. If you are a clean reads suspense fan, you don’t want to miss this one.

I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Critical Threat by Lynette Eason features a serial killer on the loose. The killer is mocking a past serial killer, and the connections are drawing close to home. The hero, Sam Monroe, is the son of a serial killer who has turned into a psychiatrist. He wants to remove the stereotype of the images of his father from his persona. He works really hard with Grace, the heroine, as she tries to find out who is leaving these women in parks with their tongues cut out. Grace uses her skills to try to stop the killer, but it draws personal as he targets her over and over again. Eason’s writing style is top notch. She dives nicely into the action and does not let go. She allows moments where the characters can flirt with the idea of a relationship together, but the tension keeps getting deeper and deeper as the story moves along. Was I surprised at the villain? Yes, because there is really nothing in the entire plot that leads to this unknown character. No red herrings or even a mention of his name until the climactic moment. I wanted this person to play around the edges of the story to make the villain a little more believable for audiences. Overall, Critical Threat by Lynette Eason is a dynamic suspense story with a serial killer, and Eason delivers exactly what she promised. A non-stop action story with a hint of romance. A keeper for my shelf.

I love Lynette Eason. Why? Lynette Eason provides thrilling suspense and action and a story where even though there is a romance thread which readers can root for, the focus is 80% on the suspense thrill which I love.

This story about a serial killer was captivating, breath taking and fast paced. And when I thought how specific events will happen, it totally went a different way.

Even though this story could have been dark and depressing, with the focus on serial killers, it was also filled with hope. There was one scene where Grace explained the reason she did what she did, with an excellent telling of good vs evil, God vs Satan.

Lynette Eason fans will love this story and fans of suspense who is yet to read a book by this author…what are you waiting for?

This book can be read as a standalone.

What an exciting and thrilling story! Lynette has certainly crafted a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Grace and Sam and the rest of their team are hot on the trail of a serial killer-who may have ties to Sam's serial killer father. I couldn't put this one down. It pulled me in from the beginning of the story and it held my attention throughout. I really liked Grace and Sam as characters and their backstories fit well with the storyline. Another great read from Lynette! Her books never miss!

What an amazing third book in the Extreme Measures series! I’ve been eagerly anticipating this book and it most definitely did not disappoint! I’ve been looking forward to getting to know Grace, she’s an awesome character, and I could so relate to her habit of placing blame on herself for other people’s choices, loved the way she grew throughout the story!
Sam was such a great hero, I loved him so much! There was one particular scene where Sam proved that (and I’m quoting the book) “Real men do cry.” My heart broke for him in that scene, but I love that it was included and the author chose to allow him to be so vulnerable! Brava, Lynette Eason!
I also have to say that I loved preteen Eleni, she was such a fantastic character, and I would LOVE to see her as an adult starring in a future book!
Lynette Eason is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. Her books always whisk me into the story at page one, and I hate to stop reading until I turn the final page. Critical Threat was no exception! Lynette Eason’s brand of suspense is always enthrallingly familiar (which I love!) while simultaneously keeping things fresh and new! This book had me teetering on the edge of my seat in suspense, and kept my brain whirring trying to figure out who the serial killer was!
I loved every minute I spent reading this book! This is becoming one of my favorite series by this author, and I cannot wait to read Countdown. I’ve been impatiently anticipating Raina’s story since first meeting her in Life Flight, and I’m so excited to read her story!
Critical Threat is one of my favorite reads of 2022, and I most highly recommend it! This book does standalone so you could totally start here, but I’d recommend beginning at the beginning with Life Flight because you won’t want to miss a moment of the awesomeness that is the Extreme Measures series!

I loved these two main characters and their relationship! And the plot was very intriguing. The added element of Sam being the son of the serial killer added a great dynamic to the story.
