Standing at the crossroads of love and spirituality, In Between Homes is a collection of conversations with the Universe mirroring the bittersweet ups and downs that makeup life – the joys of childhood, the despair of loss, the tenderness of first love, the pain of heartbreak, the ruthlessness of survival and the bliss of surrender.
In Between Homes by Meenakshi Shivram is a collection of poems based on five elements – Jala, Bhumi, Vayu, Agni, and Aakash. These poems cover a variety of themes including love, joys of childhood, heartbreak, and sempiternal bliss of surrender.
With an absolutely stunning cover and equally charming writing, reading this book feels good at heart. Each poem has a certain rhythm to it that would make your heart swoon. But most importantly, the words are so gorgeous that you would not be able to help but marvel at their beauty.
While I liked almost all the poems, my favourite had to be Missing Address which gives the message of finding wholeness within. Using powerful imagery and metaphors, In Between Homes bring out emotions beautifully.
While I ended up loving the writing, I felt maybe the poems could have had a better structure to them. To sound more poetic, more in sync. At certain points, I felt that the lines were more poetic in prose than lines of poetry itself.
Nevertheless, if you are the one who enjoys reading modern poetry and worshipping the beauty of the written word, then do check out this short read. It would be worth your time.
They say that poetry is food the soul. For me, it feeds my sanity. Good poetry is what gets me through a bad day, and makes a good day a better one.
Going into this book, I hadn't set any expectations as I hadn't read the author before. I was absolutely delighted after the first couple pieces itself!
The book is a small one, but it takes its time with a reader. It makes you slowly sink into verse till you get to its smooth flow and keeps you hooked. The writer has used simple words, nothing of that flowery flattery, but the writing style is what encaptured my attention.
I absolutely loved this book! It is a tiny little piece of someone's heartfelt emotions and deserves the utmost care 💜
If you looking forward to a pick up some poetry books just because you like late night rainy season read then do check out this book.

This book is not only a collection if poems bit few write ups as well. Starting from the very cover art I truly found the minimalistic design calming and beautiful. Somewhere the white colour soothes my mind whenever I pick this book up.
The author is an impact focused investment banker and a climate change activist. She is also a reader like us. I could see through the pages she had an urge to tell her own story and express herself to the world when she wrote these ethereal pieces. In Between Homes is a beautiful tribute to our hearts that express a series of emotions at various stages of our lives.
It is a collection if conversations with the cosmos mirroring the different often bittersweet ups and downs in our lives even the smallest of moments but truly mark their presence and happenings in our hearts for the long times to come. It's about the innocent days of our childhood, the hearts affairs and it's pains, bliss of surrender at times to go with the flow and later that shows life amidst all its ruthlessness is still worth it all. _______ 👁️Iris 👁️ The moment I saw the pools of your eyes I knew there was no way but down Without a thought I jump right in For in them I shall gladly drown. This is one of the many verses. _______ I also would like to mention the very title poem that was in the last page truly touched my heart and made it glow. I connected to it.
The book is divided into 5 chapters named Jala, agni, vayu, bhumi and Aakash. Each sharing its own hues.
I simply find this book connecting to my heart and whispers me reminiscences of the gone days and my own hopes and desires at some place. I think poem lovers should definitely check this book out. They will find it beautiful and heart warming.
Meenakshi Shivram's in Between homes is a collection of beautiful poems. Poems that remind you that you are the universe.
Divided into 5 parts, Vayu, Agni, Jala, Bhumi, And Aakash, with various themes like love, hope, loss and happiness. We are all part of nature, and with her words, Meenakshi makes us fall in love with nature, with ourselves.
The poems have depth, connecting each element beautifully making you think and wonder about the beauty of nature. While poems like The curse, missing address, and when I am dust will make you think, the poem I am gone, the ache in our souls, in between homes will make you feel that loss.
•though we are blinded by the darkness of separation, stars are being born to light our way to each other again.•
With a pleasant, captivating writing style, the author makes readers fall in love with her words. Each poem has a strong emotion that one could relate to. Some poems are short, while some are a bit longer than usual, both adding beauty to this book.
I loved the way the author conveyed a strong emotion with just a few words and the various topics that the author chose.
•You’ll feel the tune escape your lips and your soul will dance in bliss, Be still, my dear, and let the lover’s breath write stories of magic across your skin.•
Overall, it's a quick, light and beautiful read you will fall in love with. Love reading poetry? Do read this one.
In between homes is my first poem in English apart from my learnings during my education. The author divided the book into 5 elements of nature/Universe. Each chapter is connected with our lives and emotions. Beautifully written book. The first poem talks about a mother's intentions during pregnancy and the mother's grief. The book ends with death and the state of the soul after death. Each chapter is based on different emotions/happenings during our life span. The love, heartbreak, joy of kite running during our childhood time, spending our night time alone with the moon by sharing out thoughts/sorrows, and so on.
The author learned the meaning of faith when she held her hand with a butterfly. "At first I didn't feel him at all- Then I felt nothing but him". She also points out that whatever life we are leading with our materialistic things will not bring happiness. Happiness lies in nature, creatures, trees birds, and so on. Every beauty is nothing but love. Are we the victors? Do we achieve anything by eradicating nature and mankind? "We bring down our hammers to make ourselves gold coffins" The Hunter's duty talks about mothers' love for their children. "Sometimes I imagine myself as the universe itself". I experienced this during my meditation. The last chapter about death is written so meaningfully. How many times do we defeat death? We wanted to live. But finally, death still stands by the door to take along with him. Soul after death - In between Homes. "Though my body may retire When you think I am gone Find me in a baby's yawn When you think that I am dead Find me in a sunset red..." Life is everywhere. We need to find and cherish. I completely adore her work. I completely get connected with the poems. I don't regret accepting this book. Great work of Meenakshi Shivram. Highly recommended. Everyone can get connected with this book.
For she is the spell caster and she is the spell, and with every incantation she weaves, men - like flies, surrender themselves to her honey sweet web, if only for a moment of fleeting ecstasy.
Everything in nature is made up of five basic elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether (space). From the smallest atom to a giant whale to the solar system itself, they even apply towards spiritual experience too. Knowledge of these five elements helps us understand the laws of nature.
This book follows the same assortments right from its index. It classifies each section based on elements & thus follows up with respective poems. What's impressive is the way titles are chosen, the type of alignment in each category which comprises of heart touching poems which bear a resemblance with nature. The universal language of poetry employed with a touch of nature while the attempt to keep them in the bare minimum level to get dispersed in the earth is worth looking forward to.
Similarly, human body is also composed of five elements: • Solid structure such as bones, flesh, skin, tissue and hair represents earth form. • Water forms saliva, urine, semen, blood and sweat. • Fire forms hunger, thirst and sleep. • Air takes care of breathing like expansion, contraction and suppression. • Space takes care of physical attraction and fear.
It's a very small read. Language is simple, easy to understand. A good one-time read.
You must have seen me reading mostly non fiction but deep down in order to get our emotions explore we have got to give it a taste of poetry!!
A good poetry has never done anyone harm but only good! So is this book today that i am reviewing ⭐️

💫 Two of my favorite poems are:
The Ache in our Souls
The moon is my lover I choose to keep secret - when the whole world has fallen asleep, he shines just for me.
I tiptoe through my house, soft feet on hardwood flooring, and I hold my breath at every passing cloud till I can see him again.
And I exhale - for there he is: a vase of iridescence stitched into an inky ocean, and I am transfixed.

The book has really attractive cover that made me pick it up. It’s a short read that can be read in few hours. Hence I will keep my reviews short to avoid spoilers. It’s a collection of poetries, verses and conversations. It’s divided into five parts. Jala, Agni, Vayu, Bhumi and Aakash. The poetries are divided into these sections according to their nature. It’s a collection of conversations with the universe. Author covered topics such as curse, the something missing, the joys of childhood, loss and despair, tenderness of first love, pain and heartbreak, survival, etc. I loved the writing style of the author. It’s unique. Like when you read poem once, you have that urge to read again and each time you sense a sense of more depth to the lines. I liked the language and vocabulary chosen by the author. I liked the way author presented each and every line. It’s too beautiful. Most of the I liked the way author divided poetries into sections. Overall good one. I enjoyed reading it. Here I would like to mention few of my favourite lines so it will give you idea about the book and writing style.
“With glassy eyes, I telescope into myself and as the world slowly stirs awake, I go to sleep.”
Let's start with the most obvious thing that's the cover of this one🥺 isn't it just too minimal yet aesthetic 🥺❤️ I'm just in love with it!!! 🥰 The cover is so white like I was so scared that I might dirty it🥺😅 but as of now it's good❤️
Now let's start with the actual thing you're reading it for that's, the book 😅❤️ It is divided in 5 sections namely "Jala" , "Agni" , "Vayu" , "Bhumi" and "Aakash" which have 5 poems each that are short and great to read🥰
The book talks about the nature, yes but the nature that's different than the trees, mountains etc. The nature that includes us. It helps one to find their own glimpses in the nature. It talks about the ups and down of life, joys of childhood, despair of loss, tenderness of first love, the pain of heartbreak etc.... This book has something for everyone, no matter what phase you're going through ❤️
The emotions that the author has tried to express were felt throughout and I even got goosebumps at some parts❤️
The language used is beginner friendly yet some words are there whose meaning I had to Google but I could relate and connect to most of the poems🥰 As it's just a 71 page book, I could read it in one sitting and I'm so glad I did🥰 Definitely recommend to you guys as well!!😊
"When you no more find me here And your heart clenches in fear At the thought of me so gone 'fore the light of breaking dawn "
💫 In between homes is a book of poetry. The author has divided the book into five parts earth, water, fire, wind and sky. A set of poems are assigned under each topic. Some poems are written in rhythmic style while some are presented in a way of conversation.
"Test my love; stroke a match Let the match light me aflame, Let the flames ravage my bones, And in the ash, you'll find your name !"
💫 The author has an excellent way of writing and analyzing. She has covered a variety of topics in her poems like life, death, earth, river, rain, storm etc in her book which makes the reading experience more enjoyable. Her poems drowns us into an imaginary world and invokes alot of emotions within us.
💫 My favourite poems are Missing Address and The Ache in our Souls. The book has a beautiful cover and it's just of of the size of a pocket book. It can be completed in a single sitting. I recommend this book to every person who loves to reads poems and wants to dive into a pool of emotions.
"A place to rest And a place to sleep A place to laugh, and A place to weep. "
Book: In between Homes Author: Meenakshi Shivram Publisher: Notion press Page count: 72
✍️ Although you don't judge a book by it's cover but sometimes you can't resist looking at the book cover again and again.
This book looks so soothing, so beautiful. No heavy texture, no high definition shades. Its just simple black and white.. most two common colours of human life.
Now let's dive inside -
✍️ It is a collection of poems and conversations which are categorised under five segments. Each segments depicts different tales, different cultures. Somewhere we can see what we dream and at the very next moment crushed into the harsh reality. Like it helps to remind us our childhood on the other hand it shows us bitter truth of life too .
✍️ very few poem books make us feel like read it one more time. This book is really very short and thin. Anyone can easily enjoy in one sitting and the beautiful illustrations in between pages are truly commendable.
✍️ The writing style is flowery. Uses of some beautiful phases are well appreciable.
The teacher- I learnt the meaning of faith when I held in my hands a butterfly: At first I didn't feel him at all- then I felt nothing but him.
This lovely book of poems was so beautifully penned that I couldn't help but finish till the end when I picked it up, it is a short book but with deeper meanings! I loved the way the poems flows from one to another. The beauty of poetry is that it makes us feel what the poet intended and also make us relate to it giving a sense of deja vu.
It titles under the five elements- Jala, Bhumi, Vayu, Agni and Aakash, all of the titles under which the poetry is written takes us on a journey. The poems didn't have a specific rhythm pattern or rhyme scheme to it almost making it like poetic prose. The poet has put to use metaphors, rhyming words, similes, oxymoron, etc to enhance the overall reading experience.

💕💕💕 This book is quite simple and connected ,with beautiful poetries in it. Author divides the book into 5 sections name as jala , vayu , Agni , bhumi and akash . 💕💕💕💕 One thing I would say that this book definitely connects you . Connects with your emotions. Connects with your soul. Give you inner and mental peace. 💕💕💕💕 Language of the book is quite normal . Nor to hard nor too easy. Wordy as well as expressive. Some are so good in between like the teacher , kites and remember.... 💕💕💕💕 Overall it's a good short read nodoubtly.
Sometimes you read a poem, and you just can't get over it. You get so affected by it that it feels it's somehow stuck with you. . In Between Homes felt different. I really don't know how to talk about a book full of poetry. I mean this book was more of an emotion, a feeling. . Riding high in the sky, between the clouds, I read the poem The Curse, and oh God. I had to close the book and take deep breaths and let that poem sink in completely in my soul. And I so not over the poem. The retelling (if I dare to call it that) of how a storm rises and how the sky reacts is just so beautiful.
