It’s been over a year since Sam McQuaid has been back home to Shadow Ridge, and this time, he’s returning with a bounty on his head.
Welcome to Shadow Ridge, where LONGMIRE meets JERICHO.
From USA Today Best-selling author Lisa Harris comes an epic new series where the survival of Shadow Ridge depends on learning how to fight crime all over again.
In today’s world, law enforcement agencies across the country rely on forensic tools, DNA testing, and crime labs. But what if that technology was suddenly no longer available? No one in the small, west Texas town of Shadow Ridge knows what took down the power grid, or when it’s going to be back up, but everyone knows exactly where they were the moment it went down. And now, with no electricity, no internet, and no modern technology, the men and women responsible for keeping the town safe are going to have to learn how to fight crime all over again.

Goodness! The new book in the Fallout Series by Lisa Harris is the best one yet! With spine-tingling, non-stop action and tension ratcheting up as the danger closes in, the story of Sam McQuaid, former firegfighter/paramedic and overall good guy is one that is unforgettable. Sam is in a caravan traveling to Texas from Colorado when the caravan is attacked. This scene sets the tone for the whole story…one horrifying event leads to a chain of others that have Sam falling in love and then running for his life. With brilliantly written characters and a plot that crackles with suspense, this book compelled me to keep reading. A great deal happens with Sam on his quest for the truth and his desire to prove that he is innocent of murder, and reading his story was not just entertaining. I felt as though I was with him, urging him on to the safety he needed and the love that overwhelmed him. I enjoyed meeting the new characters in this book, just as I have enjoyed the entire series and getting to know each McQuaid. Sam is my favorite character so far because his honesty and clear self-evaluation are realistic and appealing characteristics. This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the entire series as it is well worth the read, they are all short reads and they are all cleverly written with tight plots and meticulous research. The books are scary good with their realism and the faith that is a foundation of each book is clear and unwavering. Another awesome installment in the Fallout Series. This book features Sam McQuaid who is making his way home to Texas from New Mexico in a caravan. On the way he faces bad guys who will stop at nothing to enlarge their evil plots. With the help of a beautiful sheriff they encounter danger and along the way love. This book has action, suspense and romance. I enjoyed it and recommend the entire series. I've become good friends with the McQuaid family and I look forward to more stories in the series. *I was given a copy of thisbook by the author and this is my honest opinion.
I was waiting for this one for a while now and was so excited when this one hit my kindle. From the first sentence, this story started out strong and filled with action and suspense which did not end.
I loved how the author took Sam's story from the present to the past to show the reader the journey Sam was on to get back to his family.
Up until book 3, readers experienced the blackout from the members of Shadow Ridge and neighbouring towns, so it was intriguing to see how other parts of the country experienced and survived. Readers, along with the characters, also learned more about who is behind the blackout.
Sam's personal journey and struggles with his faith was also a highlight for me.
“I think most of the time we don't stop long enough to be still and hear his voice. We’re so busy being distracted.”
There was one character I've met and had this feeling he is not all he pretends to be, which ended up being a valid feeling.
“It was something he’d always wanted to be. Open to God’s calling, and willing to do the hard stuff. But finding the faith to walk on water was never easy.”
I loved the reunion between Sam and his family.
By the time I finished this book, I was not ready to say goodbye.

I love this series! You need to check it out. Each of these nonstop action "what if" suspense stories, about the grid going down and life as we know it being completely altered, introduces us to a different member of the McQuaid family.
Up until now these addicting and fast paced stories have taken place in Shadow Ridge, Texas. Now in "Deception", we find out how dangerous it has been around the country as well. Sam McQuaid hasn't been home in a year, and wants nothing more than to see his family. The reader finds Sam McQuaid running from bounty hunters shooting at him. "Sam McQuaid's boots crunched on broken glass as he fled up the stationary escalator in the deserted mall, hoping to lose the men chasing him." "Pain shot through his thigh where the bullet wound was still healing." "He hadn't survived traveling the Red Corridor and dozens of roadblocks to end up dead in an abandoned mall." He is trying to get home and then maybe he can prove his innocence.
I love how the author goes back and forth in time to give us the story of Sam's harrowing journey back to Texas. Sam is such a good guy. He had been a firefighter and worked with the search and rescue team. He had been leading a caravan back to Texas with all the lawlessness that has been running rampant. He meets Sheriff Rebecca Holt in a town along the way home. They get to know one another and find they've had common experiences in this new normal. Including how this difficult time has changed their faith. "I think most of the time we don't stop ling enough to be still and hear his voice. We're so busy being distracted." "I'll be honest, my faith has been flipped upside down."
There are "rumors of paid thugs who were being recruited to cause chaos. "Fear has been used for centuries to manipulate and intimidate various populations as a tactic for control."
I am thrilled every time a new book comes out in the Fall Out series! Author Lisa Harris hits it out of the park with these well imagined "what if" stories!
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
In this fourth installment of the Fallout Series by Lisa Harris, the black-out has been in effect for almost a full year. Without electricity, modern transportation, and communication, people are in dire straits to provide for their immediate families and keep them safe. Lawlessness abounds, as people steal, kill, and kidnap, to take whatever they want. Sam McQuaid has landed in the middle of this and while trying to help a caravan make its way back home, they are attacked and two boys are kidnapped. In his search for the boys along with Sheriff Rebecca Holt, Sam realizes there is a traitor among them and discovers who it is, but how can he convince Rebecca of this fact. Will they ever make it safely to Shadow Ridge? Will Rebecca realize where the real danger lies before it is too late? This is a fast-paced, clean, highly intriguing, and thought-provoking novel which I recommend.
I was given an ARC of this book. The opinions expressed above are strictly my own.
Wow! The action starts on page one and keeps you turning pages until you reach the end. Deception has solid characters that you’ll enjoy getting to know and the whole premise for this book and the series is intriguing as well as disturbing. Harris paints a realistic picture, I think, of how society would spiral if the grid went down. Each book has a crime that is solved and this one is no exception. But, the over-arching crime, who brought the grid down and why, is still unsolved. If you like post-apocalyptic stories, lots of action, and a faith element, you’ll enjoy Deception. I received an advance copy, but I’ll be purchasing the paperback as soon as it is available.
Deception, book 4 in the Fallout series by Lisa Harris is a great book! Sam McQuaid tries to help Sheriff Rebecca Holt put a stop to rampant looting and killing by lawless gangs. It will take all of the strength and faith they can muster to stay alive. This is action packed, hard to put down, with a touch of romance and a thread of faith throughout. There are unexpected twists to make things even more interesting. I highly recommend this book! Thank you to the author for the ARC. I was not required to give a good review, just an honest one. The opinion stated is mine alone.
Great series. Fairly easy plots to follow. The books need serious editing for spelling and grammar but the average reader wouldn't notice. Looking forward to finishing the series.
Deception is the newest installment in the Fallout series by Lisa Harris. I was excited to finally get Sam's story because he was the McQuaid sibling who did not make it home before the blackout. It was good to see that he finally makes it home, but he has quite the action-packed page-turning trek to get there. Sam was a part of a caravan traveling back to Texas when he meets Sheriff Rebecca after their caravan is attacked while passing through her town. Once again, it was intriguing to see how crimes are solved and day to day life is accomplished without any power. It was also interesting to see how other areas outside of Shadow Ridge have adjusted to life once the power went out.
Although this story has it's own mystery that can be read as a standalone, readers continue to get more information in each book about who is behind the blackout so I would definitely recommend reading the others in the series first if you haven't already.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this story. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Sam McQuaid had been working as a fireman in Denver. Missing his flight home for his parents' anniversary party, Sam got caught up in the chaos left by the grid going down. When the caravan he is leading across the desert in hopes of reaching Shadow Ridge comes under attack and Sam is shot, rescue arrives in the form of the local sheriff, Rebecca Holt.
Book 4 in the Fallout series, Deception, picks up immediately after the close of Frequency. Most of this story is told in flashbacks and takes place in New Mexico rather than Shadow Ridge. The McQuaid family does come together at the end to help clear Sam's name. Author Lisa Harris reveals more interesting ways people have learned to survive as well as a reminder to be still and listen.
I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review. I also received a paperback edition.
This is the first one in the series where we step away from Shadow Ridge and meet another of the McQuaid family who happens to have been in Colorado when the grid went down more than a year ago. Sam McQuaid is a fireman and is headed back to Shadow Ridge when he runs into some trouble. And a gorgeous woman.
Like all Harris stories, this has good pace from the get go and we get invested in the story immediately. As one would expect, there will always be bad eggs who take advantage of a situation like the grid going down. But it appears the bad eggs in this story might be part of the group that is responsible for the grid going down.
Rebecca Holt is the Sheriff of a town in New Mexico when Sam appears. Together, they must deal with the bad guys while trying to protect people they love and care for. It's a good story that keeps us guessing.
I felt the story wrapped up a little too quickly and wondered if there'd been another 30 or so pages, would have made the resolutions more solid as some things got resolved a little too quickly.
It was lovely seeing Sam meet up with his family once again and for them all to get involved in the final conflict resolution.
I'm looking forward to the next instalment in this exciting and cleverly conceived series.
I’ll say right up front that this series (Fallout) must be read in order. ‘Deception’ is book four and it is just as tense and edge-of-your-seat as the first three books…and a tad bit eerie besides. The Dystopian aspects add an extra thrill…and creep factor if I’m being truthful!
Basically, the power grid went down a year ago and society is unraveling as you might expect. The series features the McQuaid family, each book starring one of the siblings and their personal battles and issues as well as an over-arcing suspense thread about who is responsible for the power grid destruction and what their end game is. Lots of drama and danger and romance, of course!
This is Sam McQuaid’s story and it starts out with a desperate manhunt (he’s the one being hunted!) and I really don’t want to say much more than that because of the way previous books and characters weave through this one. Here’s a quote that sets the tone of this story:
“Fear had been used for centuries to manipulate and intimidate various populations as a tactic for control And apparently what they were facing now was no different.”
Grim. Heartwrenching. Terrifying. Yet there is still some good in humanity and the McQuaids are among the best.
Sam McQuaid finally arrives on the scene of the Fall Out series in Deception. Sam is everything we've expected and more. When he shows up in Shadow Ridge with a bounty on his head he has a lot of explaining to do to his law enforcement family. Every book in this series has left me ready for more. I mean I don't want to wish my days away but I am anxiously awaiting the next installments in this crazy, too close to home, what happens when the grid goes down storyline. Harris does an excellent job keeping readers turning the pages. She captures our attention from page 1 and doesn't let up. Her imagination and our crazy world come together in an unexpected 21st century meets old west sort of way. How would you survive if the electricity you've come to rely on was suddenly gone indefinitely? Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Deception by Lisa Harris is the fourth book in the Fallout series and a definite must read if you love books with plenty of action, suspense, romance and family all rolled up in one. Sam McQuaid has been trying to get to his family home in Texas for almost year since the grid went down. It has been a long arduous trip made even more difficult by a group of men attacking the group that Sam has been traveling with, kidnapping two young boys and wounding Sam. When the local Sheriff, Rebecca Holt gets involved she doesn't know who she can trust or not. When Sam is in need of medical care she takes him to her father where she soon begins to let her guard down and open up to the possibility of not only trusting someone, but maybe falling in love too. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
A good read. Keep in mind that it is best to read this series in order for it to make sense and keep up with the story line. I am enjoying this series and looking forward to the next one.
Since the grid went down Sam McQuaid is trying to get back home to Shadow Ridge. But on his way home he runs into trouble and now he has a bounty on his head. What happened and how in the world did he get accused of a crime? Will he be able to prove his innocence with his brothers help? Or will the bounty hunters and officers find him first and kill him.
I received this book from the author as a team of influencers but am under no obligation to post a favorable review.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first three, I just couldn't get into it. I think it's because we left the original cast of characters after getting to be with them at the beginning of the story. We were suddenly taken back in time to see how Sam got home. As I was reading through Sam's adventure I felt like I was missing out on what was going on in his hometown. I skipped through some of the story until Sam was back home. I gave it a four because it's not the author's fault that I couldn't get into it because I missed the other characters - that's on me. The story was well written with many tense moments and even one "Ick" moment. Mild romance and no bad words - gotta love that!
Sam McQuaid was trying to make his way home after being away for over 4 years. The last year the country has been in chaos because of the power grid being down. Sam was with a group who was ambushed. Two young boys were taken. Sam and the others continue on as they attempt to keep themselves safe and hunt for the kidnapped boys. This is a tense, suspenseful, novel about the desperation of people who no longer have electricity, no internet, no technology, and no modern conveniences. Fighting against the criminal element who showed no mercy was challenging and frightening. This is a fast-paced novel that kept my interest.
This is Sam McQuaid's story. He is running from bounty hunters for a crime he didn't commit. He seeks the help of his family to clear his name. In this book the McQuaid family is one step closer to finding out who the members of The Realm are that created this chaos. This is the fourth book in the series. After the power grid goes down everyone is searching for a way to survive and if they can to get back to their families. I like the series and it does make you wonder what you would do to survive if the power grid ever does go down.
This is an action packed book with Sam McQuaid running for his life. You are kept on edge the edge of your seat as the men who are tracking him are very good. Sam is going to need every trick he knows to get back to Shadow Ridge and his family to help prove he is innocent.
If you are a fan of romantic suspense, a faith thread throughout the story, and lots of action, you'll enjoy reading this book and the others in the series. I highly recommend reading it.
Like with Frequency, there was still way too much of a focus on the relationship in this book for my taste. That being said though, this is a can’t stop, won’t stop situation. I need answers, and I’m willing to trudge my way through the elements of these books that I don’t like in order to get to the end of the series.
It's a good story about a family going through survival after some event leads to a blackout. This is book 4 of 6 books (then a prequal was written). One for each family member. It was an easy listen.
Lisa Harris, even though this genre is unknown territory to me your writing is just awesome!! We meet Sam and Rebecca and boy oh boy are they in for adventure and suspense and romance, and well the fight of their lives!! This is an edge of your seat, cannot and won't put it down, roller coaster ride with suspense filled twists and turns. The romance is woven perfectly into the story. The faith is an integral part of the story and uplifts you. From start to finish this book draws you in and holds your attention! Do I recommend this book? Thousand times yes!!

Another awesome book. I can’t wait for book five and it’s going to be a while. Read book when you don’t have to put it down and pick it back in up. You’ll be glad you did. Enjoy. And have a Blessed Thanksgiving
