If you dare to hunt monsters, remember this: One day they will hunt you.
I've always hunted monsters. I'm good at it. Maybe even great. But I didn't know what I was getting into when I was hired to slay a vampire. He's stronger than all the legends say, my tricks and weapons are useless. Now the tables have turned and I'm on the run. Unfortunately, this gorgeous predator wants to teach me a lesson. That means chasing me. That means catching me. That means conquering me. And when he finally does, he'll show me what a real hunter can do.
Author's Note: This is a fast paced dark romance with some potential TWs. They include a hot and heavy chase scene, biting, CNC, "hand-necklaces" and a hero who skews beyond morally gray. They ARE enemies, after all. But I promise it's still a love story with a happy ending!
Just living in a world of twisted, dark romance where monsters roam free. Big fan of teeth and morally gray heroes. Fantasy exists for a reason and I don't know how I'd go on without it. Email me, I'm awkward but nice! janedarkspire@gmail.com
"These fangs can bring pain, death... or intense pleasure. Would you like that? I can show you so many twisted and delicious things."
Wyla is a vampire hunter and Lorence is her target. But things don't always work out like we plan...
It was a short, dirty, intense read! There was drama, violence, intrigue and romance. I thought the story was good, but I wanted more details. Three stars!
important bits: no virgins no cheating dubcon blood play HFN.

This was awesome! It was a short read, but so epically done that is created a dynamic story in a short amount of time. The heroine was amazing and the hero was flawed but good. Such a great story!
The title says it bets an enemies to lover and boy does it not disappoint, throw in a few monsters and the one who hunts them until she comes upon a monster who shows his true colors 😊 Wyla is so funny at times she is a monster hunter so while doing her job which leads her to a castle in the middle of who know where but the thing that got me is she went looking for a monster… see it couldn’t have been me because I would have been out of a job but then that is why Wyla is so entertaining now she gets to this castle and there is a sexy man there that she believes to be a vampire (smdh). After she attempted to kill him, she learns the full truth and it makes her question everything she knew, everything she has done and everything that lead her to becoming a monster hunter. Lorence sexy as all get out man who the tasty little bite that showed up at his door thinks he is a vampire, in reality he is just a creature of the night but he isn’t just a monster I mean well he is but he is a monster with feelings, thoughts, and a sense of moral but the moment the brave, sweet, extremely feisty monster hunter shows up on his door well he wants to have a little fun with her and her beliefs. The moment these two meet the chemistry is instant, intense and the pull between them is too strong for either of them to ignore it but the more he shows the more questions she has so when the chase begins and she is now the hunted but where will it all lead, what happens when he catches her will it be enough, and will it lead them to something like happiness?.

This book was provided to me as an ARC by Booksprout in exchange for a voluntary and honest opinion
This book is the best debut novel I've ever read. It's just that good! It's short, but it actually has a storyline and it's quite spicy. The characters are entertaining and the writing is fantastic!
Wila is a monster hunter, and when her job leads her to a castle in the middle of nowhere, she meets the vampire Lorence (or at least that's what she thinks he is). After the unsuccessful try to kill him, she learns the truth, which turns her point of view at 180*.
Wila is a great female character - she is brave, smart and independent. I loved her plans, and the fact that she wasn't some prude, but actually asked for the things she wanted.
Lorence was hot as hell and just as mysterious. He is a creature of the night with a sense of a moral, so when he meets the brave hunter he is mesmerized by her.
Their relationship is adorable and didn't feel at all rushed. The chemistry was over the roof, and the sparks were flying everywhere.
5/5. Would definitely recommend. I wish the author all the best luck in future books.
Wyla is a monster Hunter with an incredible reputation as a great Hunter and her newest job will be no different. A vampire is killing people of a small town and Wyla knows that she must save the town from the Monster living outside the town.
Upon her arrival, Wyla doesn’t find what she was expecting when it came to the Monster living in the small castle. Instead of a vampire, Wyla finds herself within the home of Lorence, a handsome man who does not turn to ash in sunlight like vampires should, instead he can stand in the sun and doesn’t seem to be a normal vampire.
The story was a quick, fun read with some fun spats between Wyla and Lorence that had me grinning as well as enjoying the way the two main characters bounce back and forth. I love the changing perspectives and reading from Lorence’s point of view, his feelings were a delight to read as he and Wyla enjoy a game between the two of them that gives Lorence a sense of liveliness.
I would love to read more about Lorence and Wyla and see what the two of them get up to after this meeting between the two of them.

This was most definitely a fast paced steamy romance.
Wyla is a monster hunter tasked with killing a vampire in town. Thinking she’s entering into enemy territory prepared for anything, she’s caught off guard with who and what she finds. Not even holy water can protect her from the sinful predator that is Lorence. Will she be able to escape a man who loves a chase?
Although the author states that this is a short and fast paced story, I still wanted more. Everything felt too rushed. Wyla wasn’t as cable as I expected her to be. I wanted more of a fight, more enemies to lovers, more wit and more knife to the throat tension. The story does have potential though.
I did enjoy learning about each characters background. I typically enjoy fast paced romances because you’re not waiting around for things to happen, but I felt a little unsatisfied when it did finally get to the (dare I say) juicy parts.

Thank you BookSprout and Jane Darkspire for send an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
WHAT I LIKED: This book started out as your typical hunter vs vampire novel. Only when he didn't have any of the typical stereotypes of a vampire I was pulled into this story further. I will admit that even for how short this story was, there were still quite a few twists thrown into this book that I wasn't expecting.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I don't think that the X-rated scenes were written all that well.. it was hard to follow what was happening and then all of a sudden it was over.. There are also moments in this book (which might have just been missed upon reviewing) where in the chapter for Wyla, it actually switches to Lorence's point of view for just a moment before going back to Wyla.
OVERALL / RECOMMENDATION: This was a good short story. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy enemies to lovers, and Vampire romances.
Sweet Prey is a short, insta-lust story about Wyla, a monster hunter, and Lorence, her mark. Wyla was hired by the town mayor to kill the local vampire living in a castle. She’s hunted a couple of vampires before but was woefully unprepared for Lorence.
I had to remind myself that this is a short story, which means details are naturally lacking compared to novellas and novels. I would have liked a little bit more world building. I found myself wondering what time period the story was set in. They’re in a castle near a small town, using crossbows and basin tubs, and riding horses… then Wyla’s using a flashlight and asking about a grocer.
I wouldn’t call this an enemies to lovers, even though Wyla and Lorence are technically “enemies.” The chemistry is evident from the start and I enjoyed the spice. Wyla and Lorence’s story seems to be a HFN.
Wyla hunts monsters she’s always hunted them because one day they will hunt her and Wyla is good at hunting monsters maybe even great but She didn’t know what she was getting herself into when she was hired to slay a vampire and he’s stronger than all the legends say so Wyla’s tricks and weapons are useless against Lorene and now the tables have turned and Wyla is in the run unfortunately this gorgeous predator wants to teach her a lesson so that means chasing her catching her and conquering her and when he finally does he’ll teach Wyla what a real hunter can do A totally gripping read highly recommend I couldn’t put it down I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This short story does a fairly good building up not only the world but the backstory. What didn't quite sell it for me was the b@da$$ monster hunter.
One minute she was kicking a$$ and not even nothing to take names because she wasn't going to need to get notes on how she did. She was confidence in a leather and woo be anyone who got in her way. Even when she ruffled, she thought on her toes and remained calm . . . Or so it seemed.
The next moment she's a needy, awkward woman who really seems to have left her brain in her other panties. She completely becomes this overly sexual woman, which is fine, but it just didn't mesh well with the hunter persona.

★ "I'm going to take everything from you, little hunter. Everything."★
—>>> Wyla is the pro monster hunter who sneaks into Lorence’s castle, intent on his demise to rid the town of Heartwood of this apex predator, but she only ends up presenting a delicious and glorious challenge when he chases back. He definitely has found a worthy opponent and a match!
Enjoyed all their exchanges, whether during the chase, poignant moments, or wicked scenes! Fantastic read - I hope for more in the future from Wyla and Lorence, as well as more stories from this author!
Wyla is a monster hunter. Lorence is who she's supposed to kill. He isn't like the other monsters she's been sent to kill in the past. Nothing she uses is working on him, he tells her to leave, but it won't be easy for her. I love a good chase scene with taunting, and I got just that in this book. Spicy, suspenseful, quick read, and fun! I will read more from this author in the future.

Wyla is a monster hunter, and when her job leads her to a castle in the middle of nowhere, she meets the vampire Lorence or that’s what she thinks… After the unsuccessful try to kill him, she learns the truth, which turns her point of view entirely. This book is an awesome mature read. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Wyla.

Wyla and Lorence's story was a short, steamy, enemies to lovers read. Wyla a monster hunter is hired to end Lorence a vampire, but he's different and he does things to her body she wasn't prepared for.
Steamy scenes, a chase through the forest, some scenes that could be triggering, a change of heart and a HFN ending await you.
Was definitely worth the quick read if you are into vampires...check triggers.

Wyla (h) is a monster hunter hired to kill Lorence (H), a vampire. But Lorence isn't quite what he seems and takes great pleasure in turning the tables on his quarry as he becomes the one doing the chasing. Wyla discovers that there is so much more to Lorence, and they spend more time together. Interesting storyline and loved the MCs. Lot of action, including plenty of heat with biting, blood play, and more.
This is a short and sexy little vampire story featuring an enemies to lovers romance, a mature steamy scene and some dark action with plenty of stakes.
I bled through this in a couple of bites and enjoyed every drip but the corpse ran dry a little to soon to fully sate my hunger.
Recommended for fans of bite sized vampire romance.
Quick steamy read told from A dual POV. Enjoyed the loose beauty and the beast retelling. Wyla is a monster hunter and is hired to hunt Lorence, a vampire accused of killing a few local villagers. A cat and mouse chase and sparks fly. Guaranteed HEA.

I have to admit, I skimmed over a bit of this book; however, for the most part it was very interesting. I liked the interactions between the main characters. I do feel like it was missing something, though…just not sure what. I guess I feel like I was left wanting more in the end.

What is described in the blurb isn't what takes place, in terms of the tone of the book. Lorence is meant to be this scary vampire, he's not. Wyla is also meant to be this badass who is really good at her job, she honestly isn't.
The book comes off as trying to take a darker tone when it isn't actually a dark story.
So, I'm a bit of a sucker (pun v much intented) for a vampire romance and this was a great, quick read. I live for an enemies to lovers trope and nothing streams E2L quite like one trying to kill the other. We get a chase scene, dirty talk and a decent plot with likeable characters all packed into 150 pages. And the cherry on top of it all, he gives her a little nickname 🤌🏻✨️
After reading Tangle of Dragons, I searched for more from this author. I found Sweet Prey; short, hot, enemies-to-lovers, easy & fast paced romance. Wyla - monster hunter Lorence - vampire Wyla is hired to killed Lorence, she never fails a mission....but what happens if she's met her match.... read this sweet, sexy and terrifying novella!
I feel like I've just disembarked from a roller coaster!!! I've been in suspense and then totally shocked and surprised so many times in this book that I can't tell which way is up anymore!.

Short vampire/ monster-hunter read if you are looking for something quick with a bit of a chase. Add in a little family vampire multigenerational drama and you get the making of a lonely, excluded vamp. Has a happy ending.

OMG! the MC was living up to her sass, Wyla was witting her way through this book so fast, she could compete against Lorence. I was in love with them both the moment it started. Everything from the heated kisses to the chase was GIVING. A Hunter/Vampire trope? YES PLEASE!.
This was a really good novella. Steamy scenes, a chase through the forest, some scenes that could be triggering, a change of heart and a HFN ending await you. This was a good read if you like to read about vampires. I would recommend this novella.
I will admit that I've bought it takes a little while to get going for me but what it goes it's really good and it keeps going. I loved the consistent consistent conflict it made the ending so much sweeter.
