A Jane Austen Variation #3

Second Chances: A Jane Austen Variation

Rate this book
Divided, Lizzy and Liam are separated by going to two different colleges. An exciting start, making new friends and gaining new experiences, takes an unpleasant turn when their lives are disrupted by a pandemic that results in a lockdown that shuts down the state.

Liam
When Liam moves back across the state - and gains control of his sister Georgie’s guardianship – he enrolls at Lizzy’s college. But he’s carrying a secret that could tear everything to pieces.

Lizzy
Lizzy once again finds herself focusing on her running, academics, and scholarships a little too much. It seems only her new friend Flint can keep her from hyper-focusing and making sure to get some well-needed distractions.

Flint
Flint has a secret; he’s Liam’s cousin and – once Liam moves to town – is sharing a house with Liam and Georgie. No matter what he does, he can’t get his cousin and new best friend to meet.

When things start to fall apart, he has no choice but reveal his secret.

But Flint’s secret about his connections has nothing on the secret Liam has been carrying. When it’s revealed, will everything fall apart?

Second Chances is the second book set in a modernized and loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. This story follows Liam, Lizzy, and Flint through four years of college and a pandemic. The complete trilogy follows Liam and Lizzy through high school and college, through the trials they experience during six years of their lives.

Alicia J. Chumney has her B.A. in English Literature from the University of TN at Martin (2008). Since middle school she has been scribbling in notebooks, on scrap paper, even in a restaurant ticket book one time (she still has the ticket book).

She lives in Tennessee with her cat, Molly, and a stack of books that she doubts she will finish reading in her lifetime. This is mostly because she spends a fair amount of time rereading her favorite books: Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice.

A clean story with 88 chapters (some chapters are super short). Bulk of the story is Elizabeth's college life. She met and became good friends with Flint. Then got reacquainted with her long lost friend (love). The story was interesting enough especially the times she was with Flint. However, there was agony, as the meeting between ODC was very delayed (it felt close to the end).

If you are looking for a love story, with tender moments, you might get disappointed on this one. I feel the second chance was because they met again and it is not a true second chance at love. (No lovesick Mr D).Not also particularly fond of having only a few appearances/mentions of the old (original) characters and introduction of a lot of new characters.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the college life of EB. I am looking forward to the third book, hopefully it is centered in their love story.

I've read several books written by Alicia J. Chumney; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the third book in the Jane Austen Variation Series; the story continues from the previous books about Lizzy & Liam and is best if read in order.
