Adrian Elias and Sage Tamir have been brought together by destiny as soul mates and they aren’t taking that exceptional gift for granted. However, before they can get accustomed to their new life together, they find themselves in trouble and inconvenienced by the powerful council of mages known as the Echelon Imperial. After being called to a mandatory meeting, they are given an ultimatum that could be deadly if they don’t choose wisely.
If that isn’t enough, the vampire Archduke of Chicago, Salino Laurent, calls in the favor owed him for saving Sage’s life. But when Adrian and Sage hear about what he wants, the two mages wonder if it’s even possible and, if so, is it worth the risk? More importantly, will they survive?
On top of that, Adrian gets a time-sensitive case, and this one he knows he can’t do alone. It is magic deeply rooted in darkness; he will need Sage. But if they fail, then a young boy may not get the chance to see his next birthday.
For anyone else, these would be extraordinary circumstances, but for Adrian and Sage, it is starting to feel like a Monday. With everything coming at them from all directions, they will need to be able to trust each other and what they share more than ever before.
Reader Advisory: 18 and older, adult situations and steamy romance. This book features a charming PI who is head over heels in love with a ruthless mob boss who will do whatever it takes to protect him. It also has an opportunistic vampire Archduke whose schemes are more than what they seem. They promise to keep you reading until the last page

Really enjoyed this one, I love how Nicholas's brain works and comes up with these awesome ideas, and I love how fascinating all his books and characters are! This series is just so good, paranormal romance with shifters, mages and vampires. And some hybrid ones hehe.
Loved how Salino and the vampire empire (LOL) was in the center of this story and how deep we got to see into Salino and the vampire's life, it was really interesting, sometimes brutal (just a bit) and really enjoyable.
The little investigation that Adrian had going on with that young boy and the curse, the griezels and all the magic going on, I just loved it. So complex.
Can't wait the next one and see what'll happen with Adrian. And with Salino.... and Sage :D hehe. Love this.
Damn. I forgot how much I LOVED Sage and Adrian. There are so many layers to Sage and all the "baddies" in this series. I mean who doesn't love an anti-hero? I really enjoyed the brief glimpses we get in the head of the Vampire Salino. There is so much more to him than meets the eye. A lot is changing with Sage's transformation and hierarchy of things in the paranormal world. Adrian is still taking on PI cases, yet he's also got hands in Vampire and Mage politics which isn't exactly a good thing. Being the mate of a man like Sage definitely has its own set of issues too. More than once Adrian has to decide if he's doing something he can live with. He's the light to Sage's dark. They couldn't do the extraordinary things they can now without the other. It's like a checks and balances system. Unfortunately, by the end of book 2 that system is pretty out of whack. Magic always has a price, and I cannot tell whether or not the price paid is going to be worth it in the end.
Adrian and Sage's story continues how it left off in book one, full of intensity, heat and the supernatural. This is a series to be read in order and there is an overall series arc as well as developing relationships. We left off with Sage and Adrian being requested at the Echelon Imperial council who it turns out are very interested in having these two, now very powerful, mages, on their side. There is also Salino's request that they need to plan for and Adrian still has his PI business with his partner, Xavier, bringing in clients. A lot going on to keep the MC's excessively busy but it all flows really well throughout the story and I don't feel like we miss out anywhere. Both book one and two take place over quite a short time frame, only days really for each, but there's no denying the strength of the bond and love between Adrian and Sage, and then there's what happens between Salino and Sage, the bond between a sire and his child. Relationships become intertwined and complicated, more so towards the end after the huge event that happens that Sage and Adrian help Salino with. It's entertaining to follow and also interesting to see how their opinions and feelings towards each other are changing. There's many layers to all of the characters in this series which I'm really enjoying. The cliff hanger were left with this time is so much worse than book one's with endless possibilities of what is to come and Adrian and Sage left with little choice than to follow orders. This is such a great series. The two MC's quite literally the light and dark side of mages and balance each other so well in all aspects of their lives. I'm interested to see how book three unfolds and how the plot continues. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
The second book of the series jumps right back into the story but ends with a bit of a cliffhanger though the guys are HFN. Adrian and Sage go before the Mage Council and told to join or else. They are still bound by their promises and ties to Salino, the vampire. again, this is a lot of supernals in the story with a case or two for Adrian and Xavier, along with a lot of steamy sex and a three way. Sage is still too cool for words, Adrian conflicted all the time, and the Lady Shifters rock. There were many typos but perhaps this was only in the ARCs. I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
Blood Dynasty was fantastic!! It takes off as Mafioso Magic ends. Adrian and Sage are requested to visit the Mage Council. The are told they must join but they are bound to promises they made to Salino, a vampire. There is a lot of paranormal happenings, timelines in the pages along with some serious steam. Overall, a seriously fantastic story!! Well written that will keep you hanging on the edge of your seat as to what happens next!
Blood Dynasty is the second in the Mages and Mayhem series and should be read in order. The story picks up right after book one finishes with Sage coming to terms with his new hybrid situation and Adrian acclimating to living with the mob boss-lion king. As the series name suggestd, there's magic and Mayhem as Adrian and Sage get embroiled in three different issues - an investigation for Adrian's client, Salino needs their help and they're given an ultimatum by the ruling magical Council. And that's all without factoring in the just pride members, Salino’s vampires, griezel and a whole bunch of other stuff to contend with.
It's a gritty read full of supernatural politics, mystery and intrigue. There's a warning for readers who don't like their MCs to play outside of their couple. There's no cheating here, but there is a situation that Adrian and Sage can't avoid. This universe is growing into a seriously intriguing place. Blood Dynasty is an entertaining read, but it leaves us at an interesting HFN point. 4.25*
A copy was provided by GRR. This is my honest review.
This book picks up where the first book in the series left off, and it’s easy to fall right back into the (barely) controlled chaos that is Adrian and Sage’s life. There’s a lot going on here, so much that I won’t even try to sum up each of the plot threats they’re tangled up in, but it all works— there’s an intensity and urgency to reading experience that’s bound up in the fact that there’s never really a dull moment for the characters. The balance of heat, emotion, and plot worked for me, and I enjoyed this installment in their story— enough that I really want to see what happens next.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
As with the previous book in the series, I enjoyed this one and generally liked what Nicholas Bellas is doing here - even when he is being predictable he pulls it off, which goes to his credit.
That being said, there are a couple of things I was not too fond of. One is how Adrian, Sage and Salino are brought together. This was a long time coming, no surprises here. So maybe presenting it as a sacrifice needed to the goddess to bless the spell Salino needed wasn't strictly necessary. It is so for the plotline's development - mainly because of the bond and what it means for Adrian at the end. But I would have been thrilled to see Salino charming his way into Adrian and Salino's pants without that advantage. Because, yeah, he has ways to go yet, but he is, to all ends and purposes, already "in".
Another thing is how low "prostitution" ranks in Adrian's appraisal of crime when he and Sage are discussing what Adrian can and cannot deal with Sage doing. Good to know that Sage hasn't forced anyone into prostitution, but he certainly benefits from others having forced them into it - Sage just bought their debts. To a mob boss like Sage, there is no conflict in doing so, and he even gets to be pictured as the "good" mob boss - as it indeed happens. To Adrian, who is trying to tip-toe the line while keeping some moral compass, this should have made a big difference, in my view (and don't get me started with Bella's oversimplification of "some enjoy get fucked and some enjoy the money"!). Because of this (and other situations), I find Adrian a bit inconsistent - steadily pulling away from that pragmatism I pointed out in my previous book's review. In my view, this moral shifting, with which I don't have much of an issue, is not well explored in the character's development. And that's where I have the issue; Adrian's coming across as whinny and self-delusional. On the other side of the spectrum, I was surprised by Salino's real reason for wanting the overthrow the emperor: family. This seemed to be a bit of a simple reason in the face of Salino's complexity as a character and, in my opinion, would have been better integrated with a similar emphasis on the power of the station.
In any case, Salino and Adrian (and Sage) still have much to do and go through, and not one of them will come on the other side unscratched. As I said, I liked the book; the pace is good; the story moves forward fluidly enough (except maybe for the mages' council, but I'll wait for the next book before commenting on this). I look forward to the next instalment.
Before I review this book, I want to thank the author/publisher for the opportunity to review this book. Although I am grateful for the chance to read this book, my review is not influenced by their generosity.
Let's dive in! Blood Dynasty: Dark Romance (Mages & Mayhem Book 2) by Nicholas Bella continues the saga of Adrian Elias (mage) and Sage Tamir (lion shifter, mage, & vampire). Poor Adrian is really in over his head in this book. He's navigating his new relationship with Sage, taking on two different cases with his detective agency, deciding whether to join a mage cult that doesn't exactly leave him many options, and he's asked to take down one of the most powerful vampires and shift control to Sage's sire Salino Laurent the Archduke of Chicago. Thankfully, Sage is there to support Adrian all the way.
Personally, I actually enjoyed the second book more than I enjoyed the first book. I think forcing Adrian and Sage to juggle so many crises at once really kept the pacing and tension consistent throughout the book. I really didn't think there was a lull in the action at any point, which made me really happy as a reader.
As a whole, I enjoy Nicholas Bella's writing style and his ability to tell a fascinating MM urban fantasy. I also thought the sexual balance in the story was just right and actually added to the story instead of just feeling like the author said "pause here for a sex scene."
Overall, I would definitely give this book two thumbs up. Oh, and I think the book ended on a nice cliff hanger, so I can't wait to see what trouble the two get into next. As they say, magic always has a price. Adrian and Sage are clearly just starting to learn that.
Not a standalone. If you're starting here, stop and go back to read book 1.
This picks up immediately after the end of book 1. I liked this much better but the issues and actions felt so crammed back to back, there wasn't enough breathing room between each action. The characters themselves barely had time to breathe before they had to do the next thing a few hours later. I get that everything was urgent but it just felt way too packed.
So anxious for the next book and to find out what the consequences of their big magic are gonna be. The introduction of the mage's council has me anxious. Seems that every time we're introduced to some new leader of a new group, their default behavior is always aggressive and Sage/Adrian is always getting verbally attacked for even making contact. No one seems to like anyone and everyone is super territorial over their own land and people. Everyone needs to chill out, jeez. Are there no nice supernals leaders?
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by the author.
Satisfying, but now I have to wait for the next book again…
I was a bit worried, at the end of the first book, that there was nothing to lengthen Adrian’s lifespan to match Sage’s - especially after the introduction of vampirism. It’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine to read about a relationship where an immortal being gets an HEA but the partner isn’t also made immortal, or is only long-lived as long as the immortal allows it. Unless the relationship is into that kind of power exchange, I find that situation to be stressful and unhealthy and dislike when authors try to make me find it acceptable. But I needn’t have worried, because we get a hint that the events of this book have changed something fundamental.
If the mage’s council is so worried about things, why are they just going after Adrian and Sage? They claim to have dominion over all supernals, so why not also target Salino? Do they know that Sage is also a vampire? What do they know about the pact with the dark god? How do they know what happened? And why are they so insistent that Adrian and Sage join them through coercion? If our MC’s would be valuable assets for their agenda, wouldn’t it be wiser to seduce and entice? I just see Adrian and Sage cooperating in the short term, but working to overthrow the whole system long-term to spite the council’s arrogance.
How will Salino’s actions impact vampire society? What kind of balance will he find with Adrian and Sage now?
We are back exactly where we left in book 1, right after the Echelon Imperial invited them to a meeting. This council of mages gives them the option to join or else... which I must say was not a fan and I feel like we are missing some more context about these people before we can be on board for all of this nonsense. Right after that Salino calls in the favor he is owned and they must find a way to make it happen. On top of all of the above which is already a tall order, Adrian and Xavier have two cases to solve, one that is extremely time-sensitive and needs some dark magic to accomplish.
I felt like maybe it was too much stuff happening for one book. The story with the echelon will go to the next book (since they only had that initial meeting) but they did face some troubles because of their machinations, so far I'm not a fan of this group and I want to see them burn. Since they had to take time over everything else to deal with them I felt it was rushed and took time over the other stuff happening. Salino's situation was interesting but it seems like they give you half the story about the true significance of it, which will carry over the next book as well. The only thing that had some type of closure were the cases, they could drag it to the next book but doubtful, still it was entertaining and I even though I'm not a fan of cliffhangers I'm mildly ok how are they displayed here so far.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book.
You need to read the first book in the series before reading this book. This is a direct continuation of some of the major plot points from that book.
A lot of the issues I had with the first book are the same issues I had with this book. There are too many plots going on for a single book, so there end up being unnecessary plots that just drag the book out. There was no need for the case that Xavier took (I'm not sure if it was meant to be the reason Xavier wasn't around, or if it was another example of Adrian handles the darker side of what Sage is willing to do, but either way it really wasn't needed). As much as I think Salino is an interesting character, I'm not sure why his POV was so necessary to most of the scenes. Honestly, it's starting to read like the author can't decide between this being a monogamous relationship between Sage and Adrian, or if it should be a ménage with Salino (I enjoy some MMM stories, but threesome in this book was just meh for me). I get that the Echelon plot is one building in this book for the next book, but hopefully it will actually get to be the main focus in the next book instead of just one of many (really too many) plots.
If you liked book 1, you'll probably like this one as well. If book 1 didn't work for you, this was really just more of the same.
Human PI Adrian Elias and King of the Lion shifters Sage Tamir are mages whose powers have been enhanced by their true-mate bond. They’ve got a lot on their plates. Archduke of Chicago Salino Laurent has turned Sage into a vampire to save his life and Salino wants Sage and Adrian to help him overthrow the Vampire Emperor through deep, dark magic. Adrian is trying to break a centuries-old family curse which kills all male heirs on their thirteenth birthday. Meanwhile, in an effort to coerce Adrian and Sage, the Council of Mages has revealed that Sage has deliberately killed a griezel (human ghoul), which gives the King of the Griezels the right to declare war on Sage’s pride. Luckily Adrian and Sage have their trusty grimoire which continues to provide them the new spells they need!
This was classic Nicholas Bella: another busy plot chockfull with blood, sex and high-stakes action underpinned by some really creative ideas and supernatural world building! I really enjoyed the storylines and the characters. Although this is definitely Adults Only, I like that Nicholas Bella always provides happy resolutions to each subplot—the innocent and the good may get battered but they (usually!) survive. 🎧 Voice actor Keith Folz has produced another excellent audio narration with clearly distinguishable voice for each other characters and a powerfully emotive performance!
I'm giving this one 3 stars because the action and story are better in this book. And the writing has ticked up from book one. But if you had issues getting through book one, I think you will be in the same boat here. Now remember, I'm a Bella fan, so I'm not sure what happened to these stories, but they just were not doing it for me.
One of the things that really bothered me in this book is that there were like 5 plot lines happening all at once. You start off with our couple getting sucked into the Echelon Imperial for doing such powerful magic, and given a 1 week ultimatum to decide to join or die. And while they should be learning everything about this magical police tyrants, they instead take on 2 cases through Adrian's private investigator business. Oh, and then Sarino chimes in with his 3 day to sever ties with the emperor time table. It is really WAY too much for this book. Xavier and Jewel go off to solve one of the cases, and you just kinda randomly check in with them. Very throw away part of the story to keep Xavior and Jewel out of the book. It's just a big mess of stuff.
I did like getting Sarino's POV in this book, and getting a little bit of history there. That helped me get through this story. Because it was rough.
Adrian Elias and Sage Tamir continue to explore what their new bond means and how to use their new found powers. Before they can settle in, they are bothered by the Echelon Imperial, a council of mages. They put some demands on them when they appear for a mandatory meeting. Then Salino Laurent, the Archduke of Chicago, calls in his favor which may or may not be possible to do. Finally, Adrian has a case where a young boy needs to be saved from an evil spell or he will not see his next birthday. It seems they may have more on their plate than they can handle but that will not stop them.
Wow, this was fantastic! With mages, vampires, shifters and others, the action never stops. One thing they learn is that magic has a cost, some expected and some unexpected; some is pleasurable and some not so much. I love the development of the characters. They are each multidimensional with some surprises thrown in. The various tasks going on are balanced and keep you glued to the pages. The ending sets up the next book which could lead to more danger for our heroes. Nicholas Bella will have you entranced and unable to put down the book.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Once again the story grabs the reader, in the BellaThrall! Edge of the seat read, as all types of creatures come knocking. Aww Adrian has green eyed moment of a jealousy, only to have the grimoire bite him with a needed spell. Oh the hardship for love! Okay between the Council demands, which started off the summoning/meeting with the attitude and Kakashi "MagiGrande of the Echelon Imperial" is just talking about Sage and Adrian for their attitude. Accept the offer or accept the conscious of the decision made to save Adrain, that was the uultimatum the Echelon Imperial was offering. Salino *calling* Sage, to preform a powerful spell in three days time. Their plate is overcrowding because with all the times lines in one week. Sage has another issue brought to light with Damon, because those ahole council kept their word. It so leaves off with a bit of an oops-hanger, but so worth the pains of waiting for more.
The adventures of Sage and Adrien continue and yet again I find myself enjoying the story despite it not being to my usual tastes. This time there’s an added complication, Salino the vampire archduke and a certain debt the two men owe him for saving sage’s life. This Gordian Knit of a tale keeps winding and draws us further and further into a story where two very much opposite men make decisions that shake the very foundations of their world. If the paranormal fantasy isn’t enough for you the sex is fantastic and this time includes a threesome with Salino that is pretty hot and teases of further trysts between the three being possible in the future. The story does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but like the last book it’s more of a tease of the next twist than a traditional cliff.
If you enjoyed the first book and like stories that twist in unexpected ways definitely keep reading the series because this one was of a similar caliber to book one.
I was given a copy of this book for free but this is an honest review.
The world is becoming more intricate as we learn about the inner workings of each species. The mage council that rules them, the vampire hierarchy and the griezels, which is a thorn in Sage's side and who's King I low key hope will find his way in to their bed at some point.
In this book Adrian was somewhat more annoying than the last, and I share Shi's sentiment that he needs to accept things. Because in a world of dark grey you can't expect too much light.
It got a bit too candy sweet with their "I love you" so often after such a short time, when Adrian is nothing but a ball of relationship insecurities. And seeing the big bad mafia boss become soft and cuddly to make him feel secure is a bit strange.
Love Sage and Salino, their enemies to lovers arc is strong, and I love their back and forth, I liked the ending, everything could happen.
My biggest pet peeve in this book is that Xavier is just thrown off somewhere instead of being the good side character that he was in the first book. A best friend calling out bs is needed in a story.
Woah, talk about a twisty, swervy, action-packed ride full of intense magical machinations. So much amazing fun and after that ending, I just gotta have more. “My magic is linked to the light, yours to the dark. We are who we are, but it’s not all black and white.” It’s true, there are lots of shades in this book but they all combine when it comes to how much I love Sage and Adrian. I mean, what’s not to love about these two? Not a single thing in my eyes, and the more I see them together, the more these two connect, the more life throws at them, the harder I fall. I’ll tell you a secret though: I even love the tricky Salino, but shhh, don’t tell Sage. So many layers, so many curves, so much heat, I couldn’t put it down as I had to know what was gonna happen next. Gah, so mouthwateringly good! I don’t know how I’ll last until the next one as I need all my burning questions answered but I’ll find a way. Hmm, maybe there’s a magical solution I can find…
Ah, mayeen yep he's done gone and did it again. *huffs just a bit* Mr. Bella is and will be one of my fav writers. I chanced upon his *Embraced* and it's been a ride ever since let me tell you. Emotionally layered, dark, and gritty. His latest Blood Dynasty whew! I had to pump the brakes and reread a couple of things was like no he didn't, hmmm girl yes he did.
Sage and Adrian just let me wipe the drool. It's 'bout to be something something going on when you have the *cough* council demanding your presence. You knows they kinda shady, oh oh let's not forget the Arch Duke he really sketchy, and it's all because of the way the duo flings that magic.
There is definitely danger abound, mix that up with an amazing story, stir in some smexy heat and omg you will burn your fingers sliding those kindle pages. We had to wait, but dang it picks up just where the first book dropped us. Oh, our fav pen to paper specialist loves *THAT* drop. So stay tuned it's an amazing read!
He's done it again. Nicholas Bella put a story together that's fantastic and wild, that I couldn't put it down once the action started. It had been a while since I read the first book of the Mages & Mayham series, so the beginning of the story to set the scene for what's going to happen was a bit slow as well as it's a book spanning arc that I don't want to go into, but I believe it will be important for book three. Then open door to the left and Salino, the vampire Archduke of Chicago enters and shit hits the fan. I am glad that Adrian and Sage are both bringing different abilities to the table, they are light to darkness, ying to yang, brains and brawn. I embraced the wild ride and held on while plenty things seemed to go on in lots of places. Looking forward to the third instalment.
I loved the first book, I just want to put it out there, but the second blew the first out of the water for me, which a good author is able to do as the first book is always an introduction to the world and characters.
This second instalment is action packed and we get to see more of the characters, their personalities and relationships. There is almost too much going on in this book but it manages to tread the fine line of having a lot going on and interesting rather than too busy. I don't want to give any spoilers away but you won't regret getting this book.
I love Adrian and Salino, Sage is just a bit too much of a boor for my tastes but I still enjoy reading his interactions with the other characters.
Cannot wait for the next chapter to see how Salino develops into his new role and what exactly the Echelon Imperial are going to want.
Another slam dunk for this series. Wow, so good. Adrian and Sage have a lot going on! Joining their powers and performing some rare and powerful magic has made them a hot commodity. As long as they have each other, they can conquer anything, as they keep proving as the complete each harrowing task with their magic. The soul mates’ amazing chemistry and magnetism was back in full force and was still my favorite part of the book. Salino’s new connection to them is, and will continue to be, an interesting turn of events. Will this new connection last forever? Will it allow Adrian to be immortal? We shall see. Now, they have an even bigger disaster to sort out. These guys are going to need a vacation after all they’ve had to deal with in such a short amount of time. Dexter was a lot better in this novel in comparison to the first. This might be one of my favorite series ever.
Story arcs for days!!! Just when you think Adrian and Sage are going to escape one plot twist…bam!!! Here’s another one!
This is one read that will keep you on your toes with so much going on in the world of mages, vampires and lion shifters. Even the subplots have moments where they step to the forefront. From a council of mages blackmailing our guys, a vampire emperor who needs to go bye bye; to cases at the detective agency requiring our mage duo to cast some serious spells and more!!!
As the second installment in the series it definitely ramps up on the action…in and out of the bedroom. The sex scenes are off the charts mouthwatering deliciousness! DO NOT attempt to read this in public!!! You have been warned!
This is definitely a series that needs to be read in order. As always Nicholas Bella will draw you in with his amazing characters and world building.
This is the continuation of Adrian and Sage's story. Personally this one for me was better than the first one only because it contained more info and I loved that you got to know them better. In this one you see even more how perfect they fit. That one is the light to the other's darkness.
The sex scenes perfectly fitted with this edition and were both steamy and fun to read. The suspense, actions and machinations of all kept you turning the pages and made for a fast and easy read. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I absolutely cannot wait for the next one. Loved all the secondary characters. Definitely recommended.
I received this book as an Arc and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
The subtitle of this series is Mages and Mayhem and there certainly is lots of both in this book by Nicholas Bella. Poor Adrian and Sage are only just starting to get used to their relationship and their new abilities and more things keep happening that they have to deal with. What is bad for them is great for us readers who get this terrific second book in this series. Mr. Bella has a marvelous ability to keep multiple story threads going at one time and juggle them well enough that they are easy to keep track of. If you like your urban fantasy fast paced and exciting then I highly recommend this series to you. This series must be read in order. Enjoy!
