‘Until The Cold Is Gentle’ is an emotionally raw debut poetry collection that explores concepts like love, loss, grief, dysfunctional families, and not fitting in the world. And the last section is about living and loving life, despite all.
In this deeply intimate poetry collection of 77 poems, you will experience the most vulnerable depths of the human experience that you may not have personally lived, but you will feel it. This book is not about happy endings, healing, rainbows, and sunflowers. This book is about life; the imperfect, flawed, and behind-the-curtain side of life. About the phase before the healing.
A section of the poetry collection deeply delves into how a dysfunctional family affects the lives of children. It challenges the worldview of the reader and gives them an imagery of the experience. The poems won’t give you advice but will keep you company and you will feel less alone, like a friend we all need when we just need to be heard.
The poetry collection is divided into ten sections that explore different themes but it’s all linked. The sections are not in a sequence in which a story unfolds, but they are the many doors of a house. Each with a story of its own.
So i kept going, There is a home for me, somewhere. I know it because My bestfriend is taking me there, i believe in her Because she is ME. She keeps me going, And one day, i will find a place for her to rest.

'Untill the cold is gentle' is a collection of poems about life and the people and the world.
Pooja Singh says this is for the people- That want to belong To everyone from boken homes To the ones that don't fit in To those that just want to be understood To all the black sheeps of their family To those that saved themselves. ____ The poems in the book talk about the imperfect life, the complex world, nameless feelings, faking happiness, empty spaces in our lives, the quietest nights, the longest winters, broken things that still function. ____
The collection opens with peoms on how the world is changing people and how difficult it is getting to know people. This, the author has stated very beautifully through her poems 'Our Double Lives' and 'Orange with endless layers'. This expressive set of poems speaks volume.
This is the author's debut poetry book and for a debut book i must say its excellent. The poems are all written Eloquently and are deeply Magnetising. They are all very raw and relatable. I love the choice of words and the simplicity with which they are put together. I am in love with the unpretentious feels of the poems. I felt as if these were written for me. As if the feelings that i was holding in my heart and mind for long has now been put into pages. Because i could so relate to these. I also love the cover and the title. It's so aesthetically pleasing...One that will make you want to pick up the book.
All my thumbs are up for this book. Even beginners can read it.
This book is literally amazing!! This book is so special for me that I can never find the right words to describe how I really feel about it. There is something in this books that will make you cry, feel proud of, and smile with every single line. You will be able to relate each poem of this book to some or the other events/moments in your life. I am so amazed by the quality of this book and how this book owns the metaphor in an amazing and magical way.
Some amazing poems in this book: Parents that think of you. A Ruin of Rome. The sound of silence. Givers need someone too. Inner child.
Some of the lines from the book that swayed me away : " let go.. and you'll float" ... The longer you hear, the louder it gets.
I'm yet to meet the person I'll be - when I am free, of me when peace finally found my address and I didn't turn it away.
Pooja singh you have mastered the art of metaphors in this book. You have magic in your poetry. I can keep blabbering about this book and would still say that I'm not able to find the right words to express how it made me feel. I have so may favorites in this book. Please just go and buy this book and read it soon. I highly recommend it to each and everyone of you. Go & buy.
NOTE: I received a free eBook copy of this book from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers (June 2022).
Pooja Singh's debut poetry collection offers up a kaleidoscope of life experiences in verse. Given that Singh is Indian, I had wrongly assumed that more of these poems would delve into her experiences of the culture of that country. But no matter: The collection is still an intriguing jaunt into 21st Century lyrical expression.
The volume is divided into ten thematic sections, with subject matter growing more ominous and painful the deeper one reads into the collection. Singh eventually digs her way out of that deep, dark hole by the final two sections of the book, much to the relief of the reader. One gets the sense that Singh, or someone she knows quite well, has experienced some painful betrays by both family members and close friends, and this is often difficult to see in print. Yet every so often I ran across something quite relatable, like "People That Don't Need You," which seems like Singh had written about my own Ex. There are moments of reflection on the natural world, as well, and bright spots such as "What My Cat Dreams About" to warm the cockles of your heart. Reading the poems out loud enhances much of their emotional effect.
Singh covers broad emotional ground in "Until The Cold Is Gentle," making it difficult to say much else about the overall contour of content in this collection other than the high points I've already mentioned. Nevertheless, her ability to home in on her pain with poetic clarity shows that she has promise as a career poet.
"Some days you are your mistakes, sometimes lessons. Some days you are the memories you made, sometimes the life you missed. Somedays, you are the books you read, sometimes you are but a cemetery of words that died in your mouth."
The book is divided in 10 sections. Each section have a different topic and has 3 & more poems in each. This book has a lot of beautiful and amazing poems which I enjoyed reading.
All were easy to understand and great to read. This book is about life; the imperfect, flawed, and behind-the-curtain side of life. About the phase before the healing. The poems are simple and have a easy meaning. Each section explore different themes but it’s all linked. I don't have much to say about this book. I don't have any complaints from the book. I had a good time reading this and I would def recommend it to everyone to try once.
What to say about this book, I can read it anytime, it felt like I am reading my memories. Anyone can connect and feel the poems. So many things, yet you can relate to all of them in some way.. ♥️♥️ Pooja is an amazing writer. Her poems make me want to cry, and they always hit me right at the heart. She has this way of expressing emotion that is very rare to find. I love her use of detail and the little things she notices, that is true writing. There is always something behind her words. This collection of her poetry is amazingly meaningful and definitely a must read. ♥️
I rarely read poetry books but I've been reading the author for a long time and I always connect with her poems and when I saw that she has written a book, I was immediately interested. I read this book slowly, each section everyday, taking a deep dive in a different world everyday. In these poems, I could see a glimpse of my own life. It is one of the kind of books that make a home in your heart forever.
Loved these lines a lot:
"A bird is a bird even when she doesn't sing. Skies are still skies even on long nights that never seem to end"
Until the Cold is Gentle is a beautiful collection of poems divided into various sections reflecting different topics.. life, society, thoughts in the world, love, friendship, realism, poetry and so much more. There are poems that I read everyday on repeat, there are poems that are close to my heart.. i can say that each poem in here is written beautifully, with meanings engraved that will touch the reader's soul and makes you wonder, makes you think..
There were times that the poems were so heart wrenching, it actually hurt! The poet in a note has added a poem she have written long ago ... And two lines from there really struck with me- "It doesn't have to be beautiful.... It just has to exist." Tresspasser In Your Story, A Ruin of Rome, Seven Worlds, Lost In Translation are some of my favourite poems from this collection. I want to thank the poet for writing these poems which are "flawed, imperfect" but fills the readers with another sensation of reading something that "someone, somewhere in the world, have lived. "
Some of the poems spoke to me on a personal level. This book beautifully expresses the deep emotions of humans and touched me deeply. Definitely worth a read.
Some of my favourite poems are : Curse of hope God Kindness is never about receiving Dear life, I will love you
