Moon Day #1

Moon Day

Rate this book
In Crescent Brook, moonlight reveals dark secrets.

Even during her senior year, Monday Valko still can’t figure out what earned her the status of outcast at school. Maybe it’s the clothes. Maybe it’s her unconventional upbringing. Maybe it’s the older boyfriend. And they don’t even know about the part where she turns into a werewolf every month. Whatever the reason, to Monday, all these things equal "life as usual."

However, an accident during one of her transformations causes both a disturbance in her wolf pack and a chance meeting with Ravi Freeman, a new kid with an upbeat attitude and a friendly dismissal of the rumors he's heard about Monday. While her friendship with Ravi makes her feel more like a normal girl, the sudden danger to the lives of all werewolves continues to pull her back to the sway of the moon.

This was everything I had hoped for in a NA romantasy!!! By the end of the first chapter I was in love with Monday and her unique little family - the dynamic between Monday, her father, and her caregiver Jericho was both adorable and hilarious! I also love when a book gives me a character to viscerally hate - and Moon Day definitely delivered with Titan's dumb ass. 😤

The world building was really well done for such a short, small scale plot. The werewolves are still very familiar - they change on the full moon, they live with their pack, etc - but there are also many new takes that made the story fresh and fun. The twist at the end truly got me too!

Many thanks to the author for my gifted copy in exchange for my honest review. I truly loved this book, and am looking forward to whatever Cecchini does next!

Edit: review didn't transfer over from my Kindle App on my phone so I'll try again 🤦🏽‍♀️

I was intrigued by a reel on IG describing this book and so I gave it a try. It's been a while since I've read a good werewolf/wolf shifter book and it definitely left me satisfied. I wish I could say the plot was unique but it wasn't, though I will say the character building and writing are great but it didn't quite make up for the rushed unveiling at the end. Ended on a semi cliffhanger so I'm going to wait to see if I'm in a mood for this type of book again in the future before I pick it up.

Rating:

This book will be added to my top reads for 2023.

This book is exactly what I was hoping it to be and more!! A book full of spooky, cozy thrills with a touch of nostalgic vibes!! Werewolves, family drama, and a touch romance, and I found myself not being able to put it down and also taking a break from it because I didn't want it to end too quickly!!! This was a very well written story, where it captures you, and before you know it, you become part of the story. There are so many twits and turns!! Like, wow!! Cailin really knows how to capture the essence of what's going on around the atmosphere of each scene, to the emotion of each character. I am OBSESSED with this world she has created!!

You can tell she really put thought into her character development, and she leaves you hungry to know more!!! Im so desperately excited for more!!! Im screaming!!! At the end of this book, what a cliff hanger!!!

😱I need the next book now!!

Spooky vibes, a unique family, and a forbidden romance make a great combination for a fun quick read. Excited to see where the story goes next and already downloaded the prequel! Looking forward to more Monday and Ravi.

Well I’m conflicted on how to rate this book. Did I enjoy reading it? Yes, that’s the short answer. Did I laugh while reading this? Yes, it has funny moments. It’s fast paced and easy to read.

But after reading Moon Day there are some things that bother me.

Monday as character is good and flawed, but she never deals with the consequences of her actions. Especially towards the end. She runs away from her problems and leaves her family to handle it. The writer could have gone down a different avenue and I wish they did. It would be wonderful to see Monday comfortable being herself and her wolf self. Both coexisting without her being afraid, missed opportunity. Another thing I didn’t like was Monday and how easily it was to manipulate her. Everyone manipulates her for their own good. She doesn’t take a stand until she has deep feelings for Ravi. Who is also manipulating her.

Ravi character is like Blake from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout but he gets the girl at the end. Ravi’s cause for being condescending and manipulative is not justified. The writer could have dug a little deeper into his actions. The justification felt shallow and not enough background information. 🙃

The main problem of this book is the period. It seemed to take place in late 2000’s not 2010’s or 2020’s. From the school set up, the lack of social media, music, and clothes. The lack of gen z and gen Alpha wit. It all feels off for a book published in 2022. If it was published in 2008 or something similar I would understand.

The writer could have expanded on this. More room for other books. I wish this to be a series so the author can flush some things out.

Overall a good read. Would I recommend it? Yes.

*I was given this ebook but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*

Not sure if the time frame because landline was mentioned and I’m like thats not a thing anymore in this day as well as movie video rental stores, yet they have cell phones. So I’m just confused, she mentions the 1990’s like its old times so I just don’t freaking know. This book leans very middle school - young adults, juvenile at times. Monday is aggravating at times, it’s like can’t you tell your boyfriend is a total D bag? It’s sad to see. Tsk tsk tsk. I’m not use to werewolf books, shifters yes but no werewolves, those are different. I didn’t like how nonchalant everyone felt about killing and taking a life, like it’s just the way of the pack.

Haha I do love their relationship. It’s cute. My fave line:
“This is weird, but I’m in.” 🤣

At first I wasn’t sure about this book, I considered not finishing it to be honest but I’m actually really happy I didn’t, I got really into it in the middle and end. It was like a contemporary romance but with supernatural. I saw the “shocker” coming a mile away but loved it. The ending was sad but in a good way, surprisingly I liked it. I wish there was more, like a last chapter that’s like 2 years later kind of a thing. I think the author meant for it to have that sort of feeling though, a sense of longing and what if.
