Empire of Ruin is the heart-pounding final installment in the Dirty Broken Savages series.

Note: The blurb below contains spoilers, so I'd highly recommend not reading it until you're caught up on the series, starting with book one, Kings of Chaos. You've been warned!

***

I was a good girl once, but now I’ve got bloody hands and a broken heart.

When Julian Maduro and his wretched sister breathed their last, I thought that would be the end of it. But I should’ve remembered the brutal truth that’s been beaten into me over and over again…

People like me don’t get happily ever afters.

Alec Beckham forced me to do the unthinkable, shredding my heart with the squeeze of a trigger. And he’s not done with me yet.

The man who was responsible for the worst torment of my life has decided he wants me as a member of his secret society, a permanent player in his game of manipulation and power.

Fine, you sadistic f*ck. You want me to play? I’ll play. But I won’t do it by your rules, and I’ll do whatever it takes to win.

Because people like me don’t fall in love either. They don’t find their soulmates.

But I did. I fell for the Kings of Chaos, and now I have something to fight for besides just vengeance.

I’m fighting for them.

For us.

**I received this ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review**

I'm so sad this story is over. I've loved everything about it. There are a lot of reverse harem writers, for myself, there are only two that I will read without a clue to what the story will be. Eva Ashwood is one of those two. She writes stories that are different. Stories that are exciting. You can't help but fall in love with the guys and you always want the heroine to get her HEA. River and her boys put me through a wild ride that I won't soon forget! If you haven't read this series you're missing out on something great.

For River, the girl who not once in four books had normal missionary style sex except for the time......which doesn't count, IMO, I'm gonna miss the hell outta you! 💜💜💜💜

Here's my cast,

I thought diving into this book River and her men were going to rain hell down on the city of Detroit. Instead I really found this book didn’t live up to the excitement and danger present in the prior three books. I enjoyed the ride these characters went on and the outlandish drama, but for me this book was my least favorite and let me down. Even their naughty times felt more (literally) naughty than sexy and turned me off.
I was shocked almost from the start how ignorant they all seemed to be and new to the game. They all behaved like they had actual power in the city, just a club and other various fronts we’re not made aware of. After 3 books I was also wondering why they had no gang to speak of, it’s just the three of them? Sure they have a few “connections” but this book just made it seem like they were basically nobodies in a city run by more powerful people. They all made amateur mistakes and the kills came too easy. In the end there’s still some unanswered questions from diff storylines and certain things that don’t make all that much sense but overall I did enjoy the series but now I’m glad to be done.

This was the perfect ending to this series. There was so much to unpack throughout the entire book. I was on pins and needles wondering what was going to happen to Gage from the last book and also freaking out River would go into another emotional hole like she did after her sister died. River and the guys seem to knock down one piece on the board only to have another pop up and their newest kill list was the riskiest one to date. I absolutely loved how far River and the guys came from hating each other at the beginning to now. It was beautiful to see each of their relationships develop so intensely! Omg and that bonus chapter at the end WAS THE BEST!!!

Steam: 5/5* Strong Language: 5/5. Triggers: Self Harm, Violence, Assault, Murder, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Sexual Trafficking, Torture, Kidnapping, Drugs, Incest, Prostitution, Blood Play, Knife Play, Anal, DP

I'm doing one review for all four books. It's the only way not to blow plot points and give away spoilers. This is a dark, revenge themed, organized crime, reverse harem. If you have a trigger, it's probably in this series. If it's not in book one, it will show up later. Read the warnings and heed them.

Having said that, this is an awesome series. It has been described as Den Of Vipers meets Mafia and sleeps with your favorite Bully/Academy. It is that and so much more. This series is four books long so we really get to know each of the characters well. All the nuances of their personalities, fears, old hurts, loves, etc. This was a pleasure because Ms. Ashwood weaves a marvelous tale that is driven not only by action and sex but by the wonderful, strong, female character and her four man harem.

River is on a quest for vengeance. The one thing I really enjoyed about her was that no matter what else was going on, she never lost sight of goal - revenge. So many times you read a novel and once a MC enters the story, the FC turns to him to 'handle' her problem. There's nothing wrong with leaning on each other or becoming a stronger unit. I just hate it when you establish a kicka$$ heroine, make the hero fall for her because of those qualities, and then change her to a damsel in distress. Did the sex suck out her personality? I hope it was really good. Not our girl River. She's an unapologetic Alpha. Her own A-Team. (Look that up kids, TV not the movie)

Then we have Gage, Knox, Ash, and Priest. Who is my favorite? Depends on the hour. They are all amazing. Let me just give you a quote. "I don’t think there’s a single one of the Kings who has any doubts about how much I want them at this point. They’ve all got me fu€king di@kmatized, and they have since long before I was willing to admit it." - River
Gage is the serious planner. The leader.
Knox is the slightly deranged killer. The enforcer.
Ash is the jovial charmer. The conman.
Priest is the damaged thinker. The technician.

This book is rife with twists and turns. Each one ends on an Oh My God Moment. Thankfully, this series was finished before I started reading it because it would have driven me crazy to wait for the next book. The endings and investments in the characters are just that good. Loved them. Having said that, the writing was so good that I would buy, start, and read any new series from this author.

Slight Criticism: Throughout these books, it is mentioned multiple times that the Detroit Police, various Security firms, and the FBI (an agent is a secondary character) are investigating the various "incidents" and they'll have to cover their tracks. Over and over, they leave DNA evidence at the scene of their crimes - blood multiple times, River's panties, ski masks ALL of them were wearing, etc. Forget about bloody footprints, bullet casings, chains, and tools with their fingerprints. I know this is fiction and we're supposed to suspend reality but the premise is that these are successful gangsters in a violent city who rule their world with BRAINS and brawn. What's the point of reading about them coming up with and going over intricate plans for a heist or takedown if they can't be bothered to dispose of their ski masks (hair follicles) anywhere but at the scene of the crime? Rant over and full disclosure- I have met Detroit Police officers so I probably paid more attention to this detail.

*Steam for book one was a 4/5, for the rest of the books 5/5

5 ⭐ I loved it. I’ll revisit it like an old friend. This book is moving right into my favorites category. I would recommend it to everyone, even people that don’t ask. I’ll one click this author’s work in the future.
4 ⭐ A great read. I’ll probably reread again when feeling nostalgic. It was enjoyable, not portable magic. I would recommend it.
3 ⭐ I liked it. It was a nice way to pass the time. I doubt I’ll reread it. I’d recommend it to someone asking for a specific genre. Thanks for the memories.
2 ⭐ I completed the Herculean task of finishing this book. At times, it felt like I was Prometheus and the suffering would never end. It just wasn’t for me but I applaud the author for their effort.
1 ⭐ I couldn’t finish this book or I wish I hadn't finished. How do I put this? It’s not me, it’s you.

This wasn’t my favorite out of the whole series. I’ll be honest I thought about giving this one a 2/5 rating instead.

Smut was good of course but some of it just felt like TOO much. Like the dirty talk at parts were kind of cringe. I also felt like I had to push through several parts of the book because it felt like too much story telling and never getting to the actual point. The overall story just really fell short for me compared to other books. I knew before starting this book that Gage was somehow still going to be very much ALIVE. So ending the last book on that hangover was kinda…eh. Expected. We all knew this.
I will admit the way they planned to kill everyone in the society was pretty impressive and when Preston showed up unexpected, it was a twist I didn’t see coming. River shooting him the way she did disappointed me. I expected a more violent death for some reason because of what she found out about her mother and being Alec’s biological child.

Overall I still enjoyed this series!

Absolutely brilliant, this whole series was bloody everything and more. When I say it’s an emotional rollercoaster, just be ready to cry, laugh, scream, cuss out, shout, cry some more, laugh, get giddy and probably cry abit more.

I’m such a fan of all the guys, but I’ve said it since book 1, Knox has my heart without a doubt 😍😍

Last book in the series and River is out to f*ck up everyone, with her kings backing her all the way. This book has everything, it’s fast pace and flows well. The smut is popping off so good, and when I’m saying every hole is a goal 😂😂.

Now don’t get me started on the twists that are just dropping left, right and centre. These had me gasping more than once, even to the end. There were couple new characters that were brought in to help with a situation, and it was also good to read about a past pervious character.

All in all if your into your dark mafia, 4 fit big as men, a bad ass FMC, found family till the day they day, and spice that makes ya knickers wet, then do read this series and thank me later.

I have to be honest....

I love eva. I think, normally, she is kick ass... However, this series just had too much going on...

Even the smut wasn't enough to keep me interested in this last book... I made it to maybe, 70% and that was my breaking point.

I'm just over it now.... Not even priest, who I still love, is enough to make me finish this book. Maybe if each part was a separate storyline...but they are just mashed all together and it just got boring.

I'm done....

And ruin it they did

River, Knox, Ash and Priest are left to deal with the aftermath of Gage’s choice, affecting them all in many ways, but River more so, now that she has to think not just about herself, but Cody and no thanks to Alec for forcing her hand.
It sends River into another downward spiral, lost in her own thoughts of pain and grief, but they don’t let her dwell on it for too long bringing her out of the darkness.
Making a choice, she sends Cody away to protect him, protecting him is all River will ever do for the sake of her sanity and life.
With Alec and the society in play, River has no choice but to acquiesce to his demands or pay a higher price, and it’s all the more frustrating when she is used as an errand girl by Alec for menial jobs.
She finally lays it all out, then becomes fully inducted into the society, as she integrates herself more into this way of life, what she finds is sickening.
And when River discovers the truth about her paternity, her bloodline and the realisation of what her future will look like she knows she needs to get out now.
Together with Knox, Ash, Priest and Gage they devise a plan, to simultaneously take out each of the members in an coordinated attack, enlisting allies in there efforts to put this behind them.
There well thought out plans hits some snags, but it’s not without the challenges which they overcome when having to face some very dark truths and in the end they achieve there end goal.
It’s hard to believe this is the end of this series, it has been a wild ride for sure. Please head the authors warnings for this book as there are themes that may trigger.
This book has it all dark romance, murder, madness, mayhem, revenge, vengeance, violence, adrenaline seeking suspense, twists, turns, truths and betrayals.
This story is told from multiple POV, it will take you on a wild ride, having you turning page after page. This book had me from beginning to end. This author definitely knows how to write and I’ll be coming back for more.
And those MF, MFM, MFMM AND MFMMM s*x scenes were steamy, it had all the angry angst, hate and passion one would expect including those BDSM elements too. They all belong to each other there protectiveness and possessiveness of each other, it’s what binds them as one, it was off the charts and had all of the feels
And that ending, plus the bonus chapter, well dayum, that is a happy ever after I can get behind, because for them it was bittersweet and perfect and so deserved for there family because together, they are forever.

“You are in the presence of a queen.” He growls. “Kneel.”

Holy wow. Eva did not disappoint with the finale to the Dirty Broken Savages series. I got the Arc and I reread it three times in the week I had it before release because I just wanted to keep going. River is everything you could want in a strong, bada$$, female main character. Eva managed to make me feel every emotion while reading for the very first page. She starts it off by including the last chapter of the previous book (if you know, you know) so it would be hard not too. I don’t think there was a point in this book that my heart was not racing out of my chest. Rivers love for her men is absolutely unmatched and I loved getting to see them grow as characters. The spice in this book?? Holy mother of god. Be prepared because there is a lot but it is amazing. Absolutely amazing. This book had my heart from the second I started and it broke it and then repaired it and then broke it some more in a never ending cycle, but god I could keep rereading this book forever. Also seeing the love the boys have for Cody and the love he has for all of them makes my heart so happy.

If you’re even thinking about reading it. Do it. Get it right now. (But start from the beginning of the series because if you already read the series I don’t need to tell you to get this one, I know you can’t wait).

Review:
I wondered how the author would come back from killing Gage off. Ahh, but she does that with a little bit of hope.

Most of all among the plotting and planning along with all the violence and death... Love blossomed and grew.

In neat, elegant black letters, they all have the words ‘Kill for you,
live for you,
die for you’
marked on their skin.

“Gonna fuck you.
Gonna marry you.
Gonna keep you forever.”

“We plan to spend the rest of our lives trying to top it. After all, baby girl… we have forever.”

I can't wait to read the final epilogue that the line k is provided for at the end of the book by author Eva

"You lit the flames that forged me into this. You sent me to hell, and you expected it to break me, but it didn’t. I’m not ruined. And now I don’t fear the demons anymore. They fear me."

About the Book: River’s actions got noticed by a secret society, a dark cabal that then started putting pressure on her to join, by endangering her Kings of Chaos. Seeing no other way out woman takes up the good old strategy that has not failed her yet. Make a list. A list of names. Names of bad people. Make them stop breathing and keep your family safe.

My Opinion: As is a common problem with these kinds of books, all the plot starts rolling in one direction and any story that isn’t outright serving said direction – dwindles to nothing. Even with one or two plot twists and some action, the book is very boring, with an incredibly weak ending to it. The only reason it was worth reading was to find out how the cliffhanger from the previous book got resolved.

5⭐|4🌶|23%🌶frequency

This is the final and longest book in this series.
It's also difficult to write a review for it after I already wrote 3 for the previous books 😎

I can't say how many ☠️ there are in this series, but A LOT 🙈 It all started so "easily". River wants revenge for her past and the ☠️ of her sister. Only one man was left to get it. But then there was one plot twist after the other... 😱
And with that, so much more happened. And the cliffhangers in all the books 🤯 Honestly, the one in book 3 was the worst.

I'm stopping here, because I've already said everything 😎

Oh... Something I haven't said in my previous reviews: River already appeared in the "Black Rose Kisses" series. You don't necessarily have to read this series first, BUT I recommend it because of reasons 😉 And as recommended by the author, read the "Filthy Wicked Psychos" series 3rd. I haven't read that series yet (ok, when you read this review, I have), but I'll do as soon as I finish this one 😎

Empire of Ruin is the fourth and final installment within the Dirty Broken Savages. The gang is constantly dealing with twists and darkness. Of course, we get a new villain to focus all our hate on - Alec. We meet him in the previous book, at the very end where he makes River shoot one of the guys. The outcome was to kill but what he doesn't know won't hurt him, right?

Lots happens throughout this book, and it only annoys me a little bit that the villains always die so freaking quickly. Okay, more than a little bit. I wanted all the revenge the kings of chaos could give me and then some. Heck, the more bloodshed the merrier.

In the end, things happen within a blink of an eye. Still, I'm happy that the gang is back together and living their best lives. Danger is probably still lurking around the corner, but they can handle it. Probably.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review

I’m honestly not even sure where to start with this book, the plot twists, the characters, the rollercoaster ride of emotions, the steam?!! This book was nothing like I expected and yet everything I dreamed it would be! If you made it this far in the series than obviously you adore these characters as much as I do. Rivers story was one that deserved nothing less than the best happy ending and that’s exactly what she got. No spoilers but everything comes together perfectly. And might I add, this probably has my favorite smut scene to date. I mean wow 🥵. I’m so so happy I got to finish this series and watch the end to an amazing story. I’m so bittersweet about it but so excited to see what Eva has in store next! 5/5 stars!

I hate that it took me so long to finish this. stupid covid.

But holy!
This was the perfect ending to this series, Eva Ashwood doesn’t hold back with plot twist and cliffhangers.

River is a badass heroine, with a lot of trauma. Yet she doesn’t let it impact her revenge she plans to seek.

Knox, Priest, Ash & Gage.
Those friggen men.

I love them all. Knox has my heart & so do the others. But lets face it, everyone has their favorites🥴

I loved how this picks up exactly where the previous book left off, especially after that friggen cliffhanger😤😤 that had be bawling at 3am.

This will forever be one of my favorite series & i’ll never stop talking about it.

I can’t believe my journey with the Kings of Chaos is over. Probably the spiciest series I have read so far. Who’s going to top it??? We shall see.

I almost gave this 4 stars because I eye-rolled hard at the epilogue with ripping out her birth control (in her arm, friends - do not fret) with the obvious implication of her getting pregnant. Idk something with RH and pregnancy, it feels so out of place to me (I honestly even hated when she was taking responsibility for Cody lol HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO FUCK COMPLETELY UNHINGED WHEN SESAME ST IS ON IN THE NEXT ROOM?????) but then the author was like hey guys I know ending with a potential pregnancy isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but like I’m doing it anyway. Ok girl, atleast it’s acknowledged and you wrote one hell of a fucking series so ty for that bestie.

That’s all for me folks, I’m an Eva fan for life 🤘🏼

Wow!! There was a lot to unpack in this book and I was not sure if I would survive it!! So many heart pounding moments as the author ties up all the loose ends and reveals why our fmc, River, has been through hell and back and where everything originated from. So many twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and my emotions were all over the place. This book definitely brought forth my rage. I was seeing red when Alec revealed himself and the shady f*ck he is, but the shit he pulls in this book…I’m not sure many villains in the books I read have made my heart pound the way this guy does. Some parts made me furious! That’s the sign of an amazing author to evoke such strong feelings like this. River’s guys are the perfect harem. Possessive, protective and the spicy scenes are *chefs kiss* perfect! This is definitely one of my favorite why choose series of the year!

wow Eva Ashwood did it again. I read a ton of reverse harem books towards the end of last year and after I found Ashwood's books she quickly became a favorite. and this series is definitely my favorite of hers now.
I think it was a great end to the series and I love River and all of her guys and their relationship. I think the spice is written really well and didn't seem awkwardly written or forced like it sometimes does in reverse harem novels. I definitely enjoyed this book and it might be my favorite out of the series. The book picks up right where the previous one ends (so if you panicked over that cliff hanger in Reign of Wrath, don't worry. well... maybe just a little ;) but at least you don't have to wait several months, you can jump right into this one.)

If you are looking for a good reverse harem series, I definitely recommend this one! The first one does give off Den of Vipers vibes, but I encourage you to continue reading the rest of the series because it just gets better! And as always make sure to check CWs and TWs before reading.

I’m glad I took a break between the third and fourth books. It was fun remembering everything that had happened and the little character quirks as I was reading. Gage is definitely my favorite; I'm a sucker for a sulky damaged man haha.

Some of the writing is redundant but I still liked the characters and the story. I love a strong female character and the spice level was just as good as the other books.

I’ve really really enjoyed this series. River was a badass and I loved all the men! The storyline was really interesting and had a lot going on throughout the series. The ONLY issue I had with this series but the length of the sexy times. I do love a good detailed scene but I’d say most of the scenes in this series were multiple pages and a lot of people I’m sure love that but sometimes it gets to be too much for me. That was my only issue but even then they were hot and spicy!

(Just barely got) 3.5⭐

After loving the first three books (the third book was even a 5⭐ for me), this final book was actually a bit of a let down for me.

The first 400 pages were really a slog. And because of that, once everything started coming together and they finally stopped reacting and started doing things again, I found it actually hard to be engaged in the story anymore. I literally forced myself through this book, and that just sucks.

I really liked seeing how this story and theses characters tied in with the other series, though.

I was given an ARC of the book because Eva is a QUEEN!!

After the brutal cliff we were left on from the last book, this one picks up right where we left off and it’s just as heartbreaking as you can imagine.

But we’re not gonna talk about that.

River is a bad ass who does whatever she can to survive and her men will literally burn the world to the ground for her. All they want is to keep her safe and protected. But she has to join Alec and his secret society. From there, she leaned about all the horrible things the society is involved in, including the part Alec played in her trauma when she was kid.

Poor River is grieving and trying to raise Cody while dealing with the society and how to get her revenge. Will she get it?
(Oh there’s also an epic crossover from another of her series but I won’t spoil that either)

Overall this whole series was a 5⭐️ read for me and I loved it so much! It’s got plot, spice, revenge, murder, even some primal play thrown in (love that so much)

Thank you Eva for another fantastic series! 😘
