The only thing I intend to do with the rest of my life is to fulfill my promise to the family. Take care of them, support them, and keep the Bianchi's where they belong. On top. I would do anything for my famiglia. But now Amadeo is asking for too much.
Protect Romare Ashford with your life.
Those are his exact words before he leaves me with a twenty-two year old boy. One that's too clingy, too needy, too upbeat. Romare has seen the ugliest underbelly of Atlanta, so why does he still smile as if he doesn't have a care in the world? When my life becomes stuffed animals, binkies, and forced cuddles I'm already in over my head.
But Romare has secrets of his own. Secrets that just might burn my world to the ground...
Cold is part of the Ruthless Daddies multi-author collab and a complete standalone. Expect to find a cold and calculating Daddy, a not-so-innocent boy, all the freakin' steam and a guaranteed HEA. Want more deliciously morally gray Daddies and boys? Grab the whole series!
Hmm. This is very much written like a bad cheesy Wattpad book. Not only with regards to the content, but also when it comes to the actual writing-style. The plot was ridiculous, the characters were ridiculous, the romance was ridiculous. It was all pretty much… ridiculous. The whole thing simply felt so empty and inconsequential. It didn’t have any depth, emotion or logic to it. I also didn’t feel connected to anything that was happening. It left me feeling completely indifferent.
And surely a cheesy Wattpad book can be enjoyable. Questionable writing doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. But then I at least have to love the characters or swoon over the romance. Here I did neither.
Romare had some cute characters traits, but he was so air-headed and dumb, I just couldn’t find it in me to care much. And Vito honestly started out so awful, I couldn’t warm up to him even when he started acting better. I just hated how he treated Romare at the beginning: it was obvious Romare had some serious issues after the abuse and terror he went through, yet Vito was still constantly shouting at him, ordering him around in a very rude way and generally just being plain mean. Eventually he got a lot more gentle with Romare, but he was just not someone I could swoon over as a love-interest.
Speaking of the relationship: the development of it was so weird. Vito goes from acting like a bitch and being completely disinterested to growling “you’re MINE!” with like a snap of a finger. It genuinely gave me a bit of whiplash, and I still don’t understand what exactly made this change from him come about. It was totally random.
Anyway, long story short, I wasn’t feeling this. Maybe it’ll work well for others, but definitely not for me.
For anyone who’s still interested, though: the predominant trope here is grumpy/sunshine, it has a major age-gap with Daddy/Little kink, and there is a mafia setting with forced-proximity. Just keep in mind that, in my opinion, none of these things were executed well, since I normally like them in books (aside from the Little kink: I can't say I have read that a lot yet), but didn’t enjoy them here.
I was not expecting to write a bad review about this read, but Cold has been worse than I would like. Hence, my one and only star🌟 Skyler Snow has previously written Break Me Daddy and Fight Me Daddy which are part of "Mafia Daddies Series" and tells the stories of Amadeo and Gabriele Bianchi, respectively. I've not read these books, but I've also read so good reviews about them, especially the first one, but Cold, a book which can be read as the third installment of the series, has been sadly written with the foot off the pedal 👎
◾ Vito Bianchi is an old member of the italian mafia who works on behalf of Amadeo Bianchi, his nephew. Amadeo asks him to protect Romare, a younger boy and former friend of the family, who was kidnapped several years ago by the russians and who has developed a daddy kink 🍼 as a result of his captivity. There are stuffed animals, binkies and a lof of cuddling here but that's all 🥴
◾ Positives: ✔️ Quotes like this one:
“It was like we were made for each other and I didn't give a damn about testing that theory out with another soul” ♥️ 🌹
or this:
“[…] I kissed him softly. Romare’s eyes widened before he sank against me. I pulled back and rubbed my thumb over his plump lower lip” 💋
This book has his own problems, but I won’t deny that it also has lots of sweet moments 🍭♥️
◾ Negatives: ❌ The lack of plot *SPOILER*: Vito has to protect Romare from the russians, then why hell you take the boy for a walk every damn second? Romare may be stay at home, but Vito takes him to the mall and even they have time to lounge at a hotel. They have issues, of course, and these involve bloodshed 🩸*SPOILER* In addition to this craziness, there are a lot of kinky sex that if you are into all the daddy-baby stuff you could enjoy it, maybe ☹️ ❌ Romare is creepy 🤡 He is like an alter ego of Chucky from Child’s Play, haha 🤡🔪 *SPOILER* I am also in shock from the shop assistant's slaughter at the mall. Mr. Whiskers gives me goosebumps 👻 *SPOILER* ❌ Insta-love: I am not into this trope and here it's bad developed. I don't know, maybe it is beacause of the lenght of the book, but Vito moves from be revolted to be in love in a split second. Romare has the same problem or maybe worst because *SPOILER* he has to struggle with killing Vito to please Sergei, his former kidnapper and by moments I thought that he could slaughter him 💔 *SPOILER* ❌ Italian mafia as a decaffeinated coffee ☕ :
“Coffee? […] I have black and black”
Vito has the same taste as me but his book is utterly sugary 🧁
I'm overly disappointed, but maybe someday I'll read other Skyler Snow's books ♥️ Never say never! 😉
This book was like... too basic to be bad. That's this book in a nutshell. The last 25% was a probable skim for me but the prior 75% was chefs kiss with an extra my-oh-my. I would've given it 4 stars if it weren't for the last thingymajic that made me snooze.
Okay, I sound like I didn't like this book, BUT I REALLY DID. (the writing could use some improvement yes but reading with one eye open and dead ass tired-beggars can't be choosers)
This could have been something more. I liked the premise of the brainwashed, confused double crossing character being conflicted about which side he's on after getting to know the love interest and eventually falling for them. I am not against reading something like that but with more development throughout!
But Vito and Romare were hilarious😂 I didn't really feel the angst where Ro and his situation was concerned and it was a little lighter than I expected but there was still some sympathy for him so there's that! I had fun with this so hopefully that goes for the rest of the series.
I can't give it more than 1.75⭐, because it honestly doesn't offer anything more than a quick, boring story.
🟣 #1 installment in the Ruthless Daddies series 🟢 Mafia romance 🟠 Daddy/boy; age play 🟡 Age gap - 20/25 years 🔵 younger MMC is severely traumatized (trafficked) 🌶️ Some spice and it was good, but happened way too soon
The story was about Vito, an almost 50 year old guy (uncle) from the Bianchi mafia family, who's being tasked to keep an eye on Romare, a 22-year old Italian young man, who was trafficked by the Russians for 6 years and is very much brainwashed, programmed to do their bidding and is kept as a sex slave.
Romare's story was quite impressive, but when coupled with Vito, I just couldn't feel a spark there. The overall story seemed rushed, a few age play factors thrown in and Vito and Romare then having this insta love story that didn't really move me, at all.
It all happened in a matter of a few days and there was some talking, some eating and some sex and that's it. Nothing worth mentioning, really. A very, very quick read.
I was interested in Amadeo's story though, he's the head of the family and his book Break Me Daddy is said to be pretty good, so I'm going to read that next, before I continue with this series.
I'd fallen for a perfect, dangerous boy who I would kill to keep. The best part? He would do the same for me.
3.5/5 stars rounded up.
I enjoyed this quite a bit and I think the biggest reason was Romare. He was adorable and strong and I loved seeing him overcome the brainwashing that Sergei had inflicted on him. I was grateful the author chose to show how Sergei's influence wasn't easily defeated, and it was something he had to fight for. Vito was a great support for him, and it felt like he needed Romare too. Through his relationship with his boy, he was able to reconnect with himself and with his family. And I just love the Bianchi family in general, so it was good to see them in this. I will say that I thought this was pretty tame for a dark romance and I wish the plot itself had been a bit more suspenseful. Overall though, this was a good addition to Snow's Mafia Daddies series, and also a strong start to the multi-authored Ruthless Daddies series. I intend to continue with both.
I didn't love it or hate it. It was ok. Just wasn't quite my cup of tea.
Tbh, whilst I've read a few daddy kink books, I haven't read a lot with DDLB. When I have its only been lite. I was a bit unsure about picking up this book, as I wasn't sure whether it was light on it or not. But I thought I'd give this book a go, I might surprise myself. I have plenty of times before.
Well, I've now realised I'm not a big fan of DDLB (unless it's very lite). But that's ok. I still love daddy kink. I would have liked to know the age difference. How old was Vito? Vito in the book didn't quite match with the Vito model on the cover imo. I still enjoyed many elements of this story and would recommend to fans of DDLB. :-)
Am reading this and having a good laugh that on page 39, Vito is referring to himself…”I knew what I was. The piranha, the one that was left on the outside.” I think the author meant ‘pariah’. This editing error is 😂 Another niggle, but it’s wrecking the scene for me: Fashionista Tom returns with clothes from his shop for Romare. The way he treated his assistant was shameful and glaring. His a**hole behavior wasn’t even needed for the scene or his character, sassy fashion guy. So, he has Vito’s black card as payment for any clothes being made and modeled and he starts with underwear and hands Romare packages to choose what style. Packages?? Better quality underwear is sold individually and NOT in a package, just like quality lingerie. Was Tom bringing Hanes underwear? This is almost embarrassing in the scene. The writer is giving Vito juvenile behavior with the growling at and slapping at Tom’s hand when he measures or touches Romare. It is clumsily written possessive behavior and is supposed to indicate a growing attachment to his younger man responsibility. This could be written so much better and has been in other mm books. I hope the writing improves, as it’s a premise with tropes that I enjoy. 🤞 I’m out. DNF 29%. Vito is supposed to be hiding Romare from the Russian mafia, so he takes him out without informing his Don and they go to a shopping mall he has rented out after hours to stay open. Stores in a mall staying open after closing hours. This won’t attract any attention.🙄 The scene was unbelievable and ludicrous. This is some very bad writing. The story so far has been badly written. Disappointed, was hoping this would be a good book. It is amateurish and dreadful.
I'll probably never get tired of saying it, but everything these authors write, both Skyler and Brea, is pure gold for me. Sure, this one wasn't one of my favorites, but it felt so good to finish it for sure. They made me love mafia books with all my heart and I get attached to every couple so easily!!! Why do they have to be so lovable in their dangerous way????
Aaaah, I'm obsessed! Guess who's gonna jump right into this Ruthless Daddies series after this one. :D
I couldn't stop staring at Vito. He was strange. So far we'd been in his place for over twenty-four hours and he hadn't hit me once. Sure, he was grumpy and demanding, but it never escalated. I was positive that all mafia men were violent, but Vito was just...cranky.
Welp. This author is having a hard time reaching the greatness that was Break Me, Daddy with Ama and Six. It’s like this author had an idea and just went with it without fully flushing the characters and story out to make sense. This had a grumpy mafia guy and a sunshine killer, major age gap, and a Daddy/little dynamic. It could have really worked if this story flowed naturally and more time was spent in character development, but we go from Vito being a major dick to wanting to be Romare’s Daddy so fast I’m looking around on how we got there. And the little dynamic wasn’t really explored—I’m not really a fan, but I’ve read enough to recognize that this was super surface level for both Vito and Romare.
I had a really hard time with this and almost stopped reading multiple times. The only highlight was getting glimpses of Six and Amadeo.
This was a mix between ruthless mafia killers and sweet Daddy/little. I really liked Romare. He had gone through such a terrible ordeal and was so conflicted at times, but deep down he was just a Little that needed a Daddy to love him. Vito was such a stoic man until Romare wormed his way into his heart. They were perfect for each other in that they really understood how the other one was feeling. I have to say that I love reading about Littles and Twinks with a murdery side and this was a very interesting story.
I can't even begin to verbalize how unbelievable this story is. The writing, the plot, the characters, the murders, the crime lord theme, the Daddy dynamic, the finale--nothing was done well.
Where do I even begin with the atrocity that was this book - if you could even call it that?
"Only bad books have good endings. If a book is any good, its ending is always bad - because you dont want the book to end" - someone who said this book had the best ending theyve ever read
WARNING SPOILERS!
I found myself reading this simply by mistake, it was the first thing I seen in the kindle unlimited library and I said to myself, "huh, how bad could it be?". Famous last words as many would say. I went into this book semi blind, I didnt really know what to expect. I know, I know, "Karli! Its a DDBB book! Surely you knew this would happen!" Well to that I say, "fuck you".
Let me start with characters, shall I? (Becasue theres no plot)
I knew, from the moment Romare brought out bloodly Mr Whiskers, that I had walked into a live trap. I knew that this 20 something year old man was going to ruin my day through the "grabby hands for his stuffy". I never knew myself to be so weak willed until he curled up in his little ball and nearly sucked on his thumb. It damn near broke me. And to really dig that knife deeper, he was characterised as a helpless twink with a sad backstory (but even that didnt quite stick) to let you feel bad for judging him. Romare was kidnapped and has been trafficked basically since he was 16 (something that is very brushed aside in my humble opinion), owned and used by a man named Sergei (hes from the Russian mafia! oooo!) and trained like the Black-fucking-Widow to kill (KILL?!) people. This little quirk of his personality is presented to the reader in such a way that it stuck with me - and not in a good way. When given a mall to himself and Vito (I will get into this later) Romare found himself "drawn" to a baby shop. Yes, an actual fucking baby shop for expecting mothers and involved fathers (which Romare CLEALRY lacked). After a shop employee basically just called his ass out on being a fucking weirdo, Romare "seen red" and straight up brutally murdered him. Literally out of nowhere. Stabbed him lterally 20 plus times on the chest and face. It shocked me. It was so random, like an afterthought the author decided to add in. Basically, Romares character was a mess. He was/wasnt obsessed with Sergei, then he was/wasnt obsessed with Vito. It wasnt a love triangle, it wasnt anything that even made sense - it was just all over the place. Romare could have been an interesting character in some regard, but his contsant lack of continuity made it so hard to understand him.
Secondly, theres Vito. Hot, older, italian mob man. He may be a bitch, but hes a bitch with a backstory. Lemme just say this: his character was the worst. SImply because I couldnt keep up with his attitude! He wasnt even hot and cold, he was just infuriating. One minute he didnt even care about what Romare did, the next he was gushing and hot over him. Romare was confusing but at least he stuck to his baby thing. Vito, in some ridiculously set up ploy, found himself watchng over Romare after a rescue mission. Blah blah blah they live together in his house. Typical. Thats not where my problems lie. Vito went from literally despising him to really caring abut him in the span of 3 paragraphs every chapter. A lonely ping pong game of pure unconventional stupidity. He would hate him, but rent out a mall with its own fucking SWAT team? Again, do not think this to be a enemies to lovers, they werent even enemies to begin with. Reluctant acquaintances to age play buddies? Maybe? Vito suddenly, one chapter, decided he loved him. And they confessed their undying love for one another while commiting public indecency.
I cant even review this book in a way that makes sense, simply because this book was so confusing. If you ignore the age play, the ridiculous tropes and the messy characters, under it all youll find no plot, stupid tropes and nonsensical and rushed endings. It was bad. I have tried writing this review for two weeks, and im upset with how awful this is. Theres no plot, barely any porn, just confusion that lingers and anger that stays.
Just pick another book to read, it doesnt get worse than this.
Cold started the Ruthless Daddies series off with a bang. I knew I was gonna love it because it's got them crazy AF Bianchi's in it. Now Uncle Vito is not as cray cray...very grumpy, bad ass and ornery but loyal. When he was assigned to guard Romare, the lost young man who is terribly damaged in all ways, he is determined to do his duty to the family plus take care of the "innocent" young man. Trust was hard to gain between the two...hard truths came out...a lot of violence...some sweet daddy/boy moments...loyalties were tested throughout but all in all we got a strong bond that developed along with love and devotion. This was fan effin tastic. Loved the ending...Romare fits right in with the Bianchi's . Really can't wait to read more of the Bianchi's plus dive in more with this series. 5STARS!!!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I am loving this author and her daddies!!! This was a good installment in the bianchi crime family universe. Ro and Vito were soo good for each other they both had major issues but got together well. There was a little bit of little play, which isn’t usually my thing, but it was very well written and felt very natural to the story based on Ro’s life experiences. We are getting closer to solving the mystery of who is attacking the family.
I am interested to see how the rest of this multi author series spinoff goes. As I have learned reading the Vino and veritas books multi author series can either be really good or really really bad. I will be looking out for the next book that releases next week.
Cold is book one in the Ruthless Daddies series. Each book is written by a different author.
I've really been enjoying reading Skyler's world in Mafia Daddies and his book slides perfectly into that world.
Vito is Ama's (Break Me Daddy) uncle and he has history with the family that I remember was briefly mentioned in Ama's book. Romare was kidnapped as a teenager and after being saved requires protection. It does great with the forced proximity trope as well as a little grumpy/sunshine vibes.
I've read quite a few books where a character identifies as a little but very limited in the dark/mafia world. But I really enjoyed this. I feel like it had the balance for their story. I'm looking forward to reading more from the Ruthless Daddies series and the other authors books.
Cold was fantastic!!! Vito is grumpy and aloof! Romare is sunshine albeit a bit crazy sunshine! Romare was freakin amazing! In the beginning of the story, I was a little worried where the author was going with his character with holy amazeballs, did she produce!! The brainwashing was horrible, but he overcame it. Vito was the perfect Daddy for him. Another fantastic addition to the Bianchi crime family universe! Overall, a fantastic read!! Well written with that perfect pacing that will grip you and not let go.
This was an awesome book. Romare and Vito were exactly who and what the other needed in their lives even though they didn’t know it at the time of their tense beginning. While these two seem opposites they are perfect for each other. Romare may seem shy and sweet, he can be just as cold and deadly as his daddy. This was an awesome book, and I can’t wait for the rest of this series and more of the Bianchi family drama! I would highly recommend this book and Skyler as a must-read author.
I received a free e-book copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
3.5 A nice easy read. I did enjoy this, a just felt it was a little rushed, would have liked more to come from the situation with Sergi. Enjoyed Vitos relationship with this family, liked seeing him warm up to Romare. Romare was cute, I found the ‘cute/psycho’ a bit strange, I understand the jealousy but it seemed a little much for how he was 95% of the time. Didn’t realise Six and Ama had a book so I will probably go and read that now, as loved his bratty behaviour
Cold is exactly what you think it would be for a Mafia MM book. Vito is cold and detached from anyone including his family but when he's appointed to be the caregiver for Romare until the threat is eliminated things start to change!
I enjoyed this one for what it was but there were alot of inconsistences throughout.
I’ve been excited about this series because of the author lineup! What. FABULOUS start!!!! Loved watching Vito and Romario heal as they grew closer together and the family they were robbed of. I cannot close out this review of the greatness that is Skyler Snow without mentioning how amazing she captures the fierceness of the Italian matriarch! Skyler telling you that you did a “great job” doesn’t even begin to touch it!
