The second powerful novel in the Five Crowns of Okrith fantasy series brings us into a new part of the world as the fae princess Rua joins forces with a truly unlikely ally--all with the same romance and adventure readers have come to expect from A.K. Mulford's viral sensation!
A magic sword. A powerful curse. An untested fae princess.
And a continent on fire...
Eighteen-year-old Ruadora Dammacus now possesses the Immortal Blade, a powerful artifact that might be enough to overthrow the cruel oppression threatening the land. Yet when Rua discovers the Northern Court King's uncle is not only alive but has cast a spell on the blue witch army, she realizes that the battle is just beginning.
Venturing into the Northern Court, Rua finds herself working closely with the young Northern King. Her problems are mounting, and the handsome--and perhaps evil--king is only one of them. With the eyes of her newfound family on her, can Rua prove herself worthy of the Immortal Blade and break the curse over the blue witches, or will its magic be too difficult to control?
And, perhaps even more dangerous, is her growing connection to the Northern King and what that means for her people...and her heart.

I don’t cry very often but I cried through out this book and multiply times! It take a good writer to get me crying cause I’ve read a lot of books and some don’t get you in the feels like this one did! It was so well written! If you haven’t read her books you should she is an amazing writer! I savoured reading this book cause sometimes it’s hard to come across a great book like this!
The novel picks up right where The High Mountain Court ended, except now we are following Rua, Remy's younger sister. As we jump right in, there is zero introduction to Rua, yet we are supposed to care deeply for her. Instead, we find her insufferable. Her pathetic poor me attitude makes her extremely unlikable and offers no drive to engage in her story.
The build up to Rua and Renwick feels so forced, like its trying too hard to duplicate Remy and Hale but with a character you don't like and a character you don't care about. Renwick grows on you and he was the only character pushing me through.
The drops of Remy and Hale are more annoying than anything. All of a sudden their whole personality changed to typical "royals". Perhaps this is the intention of the author as this book is Rua's Story and that is just got Rua sees them.
I will give the book a positive, as at about 80% through, the character development does it's job and we are happily on the Ru+Ren train.
Overall, The Witches Blade was a letdown of a follow up to The High Mountain Court. I'm hoping book 3 will pull me back in.
*I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review
I can't get enough of this series. I'm obsessed. While it has a lot of the elements that a lot of other series have, the writing is fresh and engaging. The characters come off the page. They are also witty, smart, and full of banter. The female leads are kick ass! The male leads are bad boys, but support their female counterparts and they're soooo adorable together!
This book was meh.. I actually enjoyed the first one more even though it wasn't spectacular. This one didn't work for me mainly because of main female character Rua. It kind of started well but then it dragged on and on, the whole thing was about nothing. I had to skip some pages. Rua was boring and no major development with her character throughout the 80% of this book, she's just an angry girl but it all magically changes by the end of the book. I did lilke Renwick at least. If I had a tequila shot for every time Rua chewed the inside of her mouth I would be completely drunk by now hahahahah. I'm not bothering with book 3 as I completely lost interest in The Five Crowns of Okrith kingdom and its residents.
Gods this book! How is it possible that I love this so much?! The action, tension, danger, and trauma here is so well done! Our MC is incredible, sassy, and flawed beyond belief. Mulford's talent at conveying emotional turmoil is second to none, and while lost in the pages of this book, I felt EVERYTHING. I loved the character growth, and the mistakes that were made along the way. I loved that nothing was easy, and that the relationships here were raw, and relatable. The plot, like with The High Mountain Court, was epic, building quickly to incredible heights. The world-building too was phenomenal. Vivid, descriptive language painted pictures of stunning scenery, and amazing interactions. Mulford's writing style is a delight - easy to follow, flowing across the page like poetry, and creating a movie-like experience inside the reader's mind. If you haven't picked this series up yet, and love fantasy, action, adventure, magic, and fated love go and get it. You won't be disappointed.
I really adored The High Mountain Court but I have to say this instalment was slightly disappointing from my perspective.
In regards to the 'why' it was disappointing - although our couple in The Witches' Blade was very different to The High Mountain Court, the structure of the story line was almost identical and I found it hard to connect to given I had gone straight into it after reading book 1. So much so that I actually found myself skimming through.
I don't want to give too much away but the last 25% in regards to the FMC & MMCs character development both together and separate is almost an exact replica of Remy & Hale in book 1.
Having said that, I still enjoyed it. I loved Rua's growth with others particularly her relationship with Aneryn and Bri. I love that we got more quality time with the Eagles and saw another few sides of Renwick.
I adore Bri so I will definitely be reading book 3 but would like to see some change in couple development in the third instalment.
Ruadora (Rua) is in the possession of the Immortal Blade. A sword imbued with Red Witches’ magic.
She discovers that the Northern Kings uncle is still alive and has raised an army of Blue Witches to claim the throne (and maybe even all the kingdoms?).
Rua finds herself an unlikely ally in the new Northern King, Renwick. Will she be able to prove herself to her newfound family and is she worthy of wielding the Immortal Blade? Or will the problems she faces be too much and the blade too powerful for her to overcome?
Absolutely loved this sequel to The High Mountain Court! It has witches, action, love & even a little steamy spice!
I love the (new) characters and of course reading some more about the ones from the 1st book. Highly recommend!!
I knew that A.K. Mulford would bring another well-balanced fantasy and romance story to the table; however, I did not wholly grasp that her world-building is what kept me engaged with the fantasy side. For those that have followed my reviews, you know that I am not a fantasy reader and get very bored with too much world-building, but A.K. does an AMAZING job at providing the perfect amount of description to keep my brain engaged with this massive world.
As for the romance portion of this story, A.K. once again went from 0-1000 without anything feeling too rushed. I wish there had been less world-building, but this book could be read out of order in some ways. This feeling may be part of A.K.'s overall plan for the series since each book is about new groups, lands, and sections of Orkrith. Overall, I am invested in this series, and I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

The Witches Blade is the second book in the Five Crowns of Okrith fantasy romance series by author AK Mulford. Each book in the series follows a different couple with this one focusing on Rua (younger sister of Remy from the first book) and Renwick, the newly appointed Northern King. The story picks up immediately after the first book finished, so I’d recommend reading that one first. Initially at first I was unsure how I’d adjust to a new couple, but I found that of all the books in the series Rua and Ren were actually my favorite. I’ve read other reviews which say they found Rua to be annoying but I enjoyed her flawed, darker take and her character growth. I also found the romance in this one to be more believable and less insta-love like Remy and Hale. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series which focuses on Bree who has been a favorite since book 1. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for an arc of this book.
Honestly at first I was so dumbounded. It's been a while since I read the 1st volume and I was deadass staring at the book like "who tf is Rua and where is this other girlie that the first book was about???" Well, after understanding it became much more enjoyable to read but still I'd say it wasn't as good as the previous one. Main flaw?? I don't really like Rua. I'm starting to tolerate her now that I've finished but the great portion of the book I just couldn't care less about what's gonna happen to her. Also the romance...it felt so...idk. Forced isn't even a good word because I can say that there was SOME feelings there...but it felt too fast. It's like; one page Rua hates him and the other she suddenly tells him she loves him, girl what? Nonetheless it was okay, the plot is flowing nicely and I'm really happy about Remy's sudden appearance in one moment :p badass queen.
Faes, brujas, romance, rep LGTB, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, amor destinado.
I can't. This book was everything. I was captivated, the friends, the adventures, the pain and suffering of Ru and Renwick, the family bonds, the hatred and revenge. I physically cannot wait for the next book, I am in a post-read slump! I don't want to pick up another book because it won't be an Okrith book. Mulford, you have broken me! 🌶️🌶️ spice rating (of 3)
I'm not going to lie, I balled my eyes out during this book, against my will, and I even tried to not cry, but god damn, especially towards the end. All of these characters have wormed their way into my frozen heart and are here to stay. “I don’t know,” Aneryn muttered back. “I can See through the future, not through walls.” I cackled like a gods damn witch at this, I love Aneryn so fricking much.
Ruadora and Renwick learn to love all of their dark parts together. I love a series with multiple characters of substance. Also found family is one of my favorite tropes, mixed with sibling relationships, I am all in! I enjoyed book 2 more because I was already familiar with how the world and magic works. It was a solid 4 star read, and a half star for the diversity.
If I could give this more than five stars I would. I can relate to Rua in so many ways it’s creepy but I love it. She’s a character that grows on you so much you cannot help yourself but to love her. And Renwick… I knew I would love him too. This world is amazing and its characters make you wish you were part of their family. Like the first book, I have nothing bad to say about it.
I honestly enjoyed this one. My only complaints would be that I found it hard to like Rua and I felt that the relationship was insta-love at the end. Otherwise it was pretty good. 😌
Coming off of the High Mountain Court, I had HIGH expectations. And admittedly, I was afraid that leaving Remy and Hale’s story would not interest me.
Boy, was I wrong.
Off the bat, I will say that Ruadora “Rua” was not my favorite Dammacus. At times, she felt like an unreliable narrator and I grew tired of her inner monologue and personal struggles. But RENWICK. Bri! Somehow their interactions with Rua made it all work. And by the end of the book, I was genuinely tearing up at her character development and the general progression of the story.
This book is not a standalone that should be read without the first book. We don’t leave Remy or Hale behind. It’s simply a perspective shift that focuses on another member of the High Mountain Court—and all others who interact with it.
Back to Renwick, can we talk about his redemption arc???? We all saw it coming from the minute he instinctively protected Rua at the end of book one. But to realize how deep his goodness truly goes?? Also to see he’s just as broken as Rua??? I simp this man!!!!!
The tension and slow burn of their relationship also had me losing my mind. I couldn’t stop reading; I just needed them to fall in love. But the buildup—and the peak—is truly worth the wait.
The setup for the next book is equally fascinating. I love seeing the side characters become more prominent as the series goes on. And Bri and her brother are such wonderful sources of comic relief, I know their story will be a worthy conclusion to the series.
All in all, it was a five star. I too am shocked that I rated it higher than book one. But while I loved the relationship aspect of the first book, the plot here felt stronger. The action never stopped. The reveals and twists were endless. I found myself second guessing every character and detail. That’s how you do a second book in a series.

That book put me in such a book slump. I feel like if I had read it at another time I would have loved it. I wasn't attached to the characters, their relationships seemed fake. I should wait before reading the rest of the series.
3,75/5 ⭐️ Bonne lecture !
This Freakin Book Wrecked Me In All The Best Ways 🙌 I literally couldn't put it DOWN!! I Had Very High Expectations for this Book because The High Mountain Court was so Phenomenal. And AK Mulford Definitely Brought It.. I'M so in Love with Every Single Character. The Character Development and Plot is hands down some of the BEST I've Ever Read. Each Book leaves You wanting more. It's been a while since a Series has Captured Me Heart, Body and Soul. This Book was definitely Darker than the First and I'm here for it All. Get Ready to Fall In Love with Rua and Renwick 💙 Definitely Your Next 5 ⭐ Read..
This book is the second novel in The Five Crowns of Okrith series. It follows Ruadora Dammacus now that she is in possession of The Immortal Blade, a powerful relic of her heritage which threatens to control her more than she can control it. It is with this power and an unlikely ally that she seeks to free the blue witches from the torment caused by the Northern Court, all while battling her own demons. What a wonderful follow up to The High Mountain Court!
⭐️: 4.5/5, rounded up. The only reason I liked this one less than the first book is because it took me longer to relate to Rua as a character than it did Remy. However, as her character and the story progressed, she definitely won me over! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book about fae but wants to read something more diverse.
🖊: 5/5. I thoroughly enjoy AK Mulford's writing style. It's descriptive, emotional, and well planned.
🌶: 3/5. I've never reviewed a book's spice level before, so bear with me. This book definitely has some descriptive sexual scenes, spanning multiple pages, and the tension leading up to them is great! It's very emotional and real. The characters make mistakes. They grow from them. It's great. However, the spice doesn't take over the plot. I think for me, this was just the right amount.
🌎: 5/5. Where Mulford especially excels as an author is in her world building. Where other fae authors in particular may be vague about each Court (ie, saying the winter court is always snowy and leaving it at that), she gives each Court a life and recognizable culture of its own, down to their trades. I can picture myself walking through the Summer Court and imagine the taste of their drink. Not only that, she has created an intriguing magic system with her different witches!
🙂: 5/5. I mentioned earlier that Rua had character growth that won me over in the end. She starts as a very cold and closed off character, making her hard to initially relate to. As you delve into her trauma, and the trauma of other characters, you realize how complex Mulford has written them to be. You cry with them. You root for them to succeed. You smile at their growth.
🗽: 5/5. You can tell that Mulford puts care into ensuring that her books are diverse in gender, racial traits and features, size, and general representation. I don't think I've ever read another traditional fantasy book with a non binary character or multiple examples of queer couples.
🔮: 4/5: There were major plot points that I could see coming, but I don't think other aspects of the book would have been as successful if it had not been written as it was. It definitely was not enough to ruin any of the story for me, and I did not see the last 25% of the book coming at all!
🍲: 5/5 GOOD SOUP! A personal preference of mine is that I love when an author gets descriptive with sensory details. Invoking senses of taste and smell help me really get sucked in to experiencing the scene with the characters, and this is something else Mulford excels at.
My favorite character is still Bri, and I loved getting to learn more about her in this book. I cannot wait for the next novel in the series!
I loved the first story about Remy and Hale but this book? Its a freaking masterpiece and one of my top reads of 2021!!
The first few chapter started a slow for me but then it went uphill and ended with me hyperventilating. I am so emotional right now that I dont know what to do.
Rua is my fav MC. My heart keo breaking for her over and over again but I am so proud of her progress through this book ❤️ I love how she slowly learned how to accept love and family and how she built relationships with Renwick, Bri and Aneryn and finally Remy. How the blue witches chose her and saved her at the end 💔❤️
Renwick oh man I love you and welcome to my book husbands harem ❤️ So broken, but so good it made my heart ache. Sorry for ACOTAR reference, but he reminds me of Eris and what I want to see of him in the future ohh.
Hello my new fav trope - we are freezing, one cave a body heat with we are still “enemies”
Side character - Bri and Aneryn stole my heart and I CANNOT wait for the next book!!!!
Overall, the characters, the story, the world building and tension 🔥🔥🔥 5/5. If I could give this book 10 stars I would. Ali’s writing progress as an author beautiful. How did they end the curse on the blue witches! I did not see it coming!
I am going to calm myself now and order paperback 😅🥰🥰
ARC provided by the author for the honest review ( but My rambling review would be same anyway)
I need wine now but out 🥲🥲 GO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!

Holy slow burn this was good. Dare I say that I liked Rua more than Remy? I loved that her and Renwick were incredibly flawed and still actively working through their trauma together. The ending was a tiny bit lackluster but I feel like it’s setting itself up well for the next book. I love this little series!
