Saving her king gave her one more thing to lose.

While Gandrett and Nehelon are struggling to fit into their new role at the Fae court and secure alliances, Valyn is making his own dangerous alliances.

Addie is left to face the aftermath of a battle that redefines her relationship with the Dragon King, while in the west Brax Brenheran is presented with unexpected support and a theory that could change the course of the war.

In the meantime, Mckenzie is fighting for a way to free the Prince of Phornes of his obligations that would tumble three young royals into misery. To find military support she embarks on a journey which unearths more than just a potential ally.

The book starts off right where the last one ended. I love when authors do that! The adventure starts right away and your left wondering what’s gonna happen next. It was a very well written book and I’m sad that there is only one more book in this series because I love following these characters!

Where is this book? I'm not sure I can wait till spring... 😔 I need it NOW!!!

----

Finally! I got my copy! Full review to come...

----

I've loved every single book of this series so far. However, something about this one wasn't quite as... compelling as the previous ones.
Still, it also had its charms, as well as surprises...
Anyway... all in all, 3.5 stars. ;)

The story moves slowly

The main part of the story is slower than a snails pace. Meanwhile, everyone is being paired up. It doesn’t feel natural to the story. There is also more men/men romance than I care for. I do not think I can continue

Dark Refuge⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book, book 6 of the Shattered Kingdom series, brings all the fire!

Dragon Addie- fighting her way through the Dragon Kings control.
Joshua- doing the same as Addie.
The twin prince's- fighting each other and their past.

Literally everyone fighting battles known and unknown. I'd say this book has the most battles of all, so far. I just couldn't get enough!

Oh the feels🥰- don't worry, despite the battles we have some AMAZING relationship dramas and revelations! Some made me so jealous I wasn't living their life😭. I was smiling like an idiot…and cheering (out loud🤦🏽‍♀️) for some of…all of the relationships. Even if shocked, I still cheered. And shocked I was! I can normally see something coming, not with this. Ms. Steffort has a way of leading you somewhere and then BAM switching everything up. So good!❤️

There are no boring parts, no characters that make you want to skim past their chapters, none of the useless descriptions to get a word count. I think this was perfectly written and swear it needs to be a show or movie.

I absolutely loved reading Dark Refuge and thank the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I cannot recommend this series enough. If you enjoy a wild, fantasy story that breaks from the everyday, this is the series for you. If you enjoy adorable love stories, this is the series for you. This story really has it all!

I knew Valyn wasn't going to step aside gracefully. The book opens with Gandrett and Nehelon in separate jail cells until Valyn can decide what he wants to do with them. Their very loyal friends are like, nah, and get them out as quick as they can. They spend most of the book dealing with Fae infighting and getting no closer to dealing with the Shygon cult who is outright attacking pretty much everyone at this point.

Armand and Addie are in the worst long distance relationship possible. They can see each other but it's not exactly optimal conditions. She doesn't really even care about survival anymore until she can get Joshua to come forward to talk to her. I really have no idea how this situation is going to turn out for those two. The confinement, the mental violations. Bless 'em.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mac and Taghi are living out a rom-com while the rest of them are in an epic fantasy. They are so far removed from the day to day potential of being eaten by a dragon that it feels like a distant problem to them. I mean, Addie is picking folks out of her teeth and they're in a love square down there wherever they are.

I end almost all of my reviews for this series hoping for good things for Gordon and Brax. I think Brax is starting to find something good for himself but then he went and hurt himself fighting a dragon so TBD.

Thank you to Angelina J. Steffort for a copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own. So sorry the review is so late. Fantasy has been really hard for me to keep up with lately.

I really enjoyed this one! The whole book was really good with lots of action and stress...
Gandrett and Nahelion relationship has grown beautifully, though sometimes the writing when talking about them felt repetitive...
I love seeing more of Brax and his interactions with Leonidas, it's the sweetest...
I did get a bit frustrated with Mackenzie and Taghi at times, just becaus it was soooo slow burn throughout and after a point I just really want d them to be straight with each other hahahaha...
The ending was shocking, and there were a lot of really good reveals setting up a great final book!

Not my fav of the series. This book felt like it kind of dragged on. Yes, some things happened, but they definitely could have been condensed.

The switching between POVs is still bothering me. It’s always at the worst time and then it doesn’t tell you whose POV it is… this meant that for the POVs I felt were less or important or I didn’t care about as much, I just skimmed through.

Overall though, this world is really cool. I love Gandrett and Nehelon. I need to know how it ends.

extensive original storyline

I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. There are many complex characters as is present in most people’s lives. Several plots are going on and that keeps everything interesting and on the edge of your seat. I wish there was a little more “spice” as I began my romantasy journey on “ the Fourth Wing” and then the ACOTAR series. It is almost expected ! Still great reading, though!

Amazing!!!!!

I love this entire series! I don't know how I'm going to wait til November for the next book to come out. The characters are so well rounded and complex, the world building is great, and the twists and turns always keep you guessing.

This is the 6th book in the Shattered Kingdom series by the amazing Angelina j Steffort. Let me tell you this packed a punch. It was epic high fantasy romance at its best.

You must read these in order to see how this story unfolds. So if you haven’t checked this series out, I highly recommend you start now.

So many amazing characters in this series, and you get the perfect amount of time spent on each, progressing their journeys. It’s difficult to pick a favourite, as they are all going through their individual trials and form of suffering.

The world building is constantly growing and developing with some huge shocks along the way. At some point everyone is going to meet up and it will be explosive!

Can’t wait for more in this series! Nothing less than 5/5 stars. If you love high fantasy romance, you will be in heaven with this series.

So I read all the six book in a matter of 5 days. That’s how good this series is. Where’s the last book when we need it? I’m dying here thinking of the ending of this instalment and what it will means for the war.
Valyn better get his ass out of the palace and go help Nehelin if he wants Surel to even look at him again.
What happened to Leonidas? Tell me he survived falling with the dragon and Brax will get a moment of respite with him.
Can Fall’22 come any faster pretty please?

unbelievably good

This book was so good, I had to put it down 2 times to breathe through the pain. Angelina was not afraid to cause us heartache. So many relationships grown in the book, and then an many lives lost. Each character has such a strong resilience to stay alive against the dragon king. We learn some pretty epic details about Gandrett that helps us understand who she is. Such a great book

This series had an amazing start, but I'm sad to say that book 6 was hard to finish. (In fact, it took me 2 months to read). It just wasn't very interesting, nothing much happened, and there were too many point of views I didn't care about (Brad, Armand, MacKenzie, Addis, Drew). Boring. The side character relationships felt forced and compromised the literary flow of the story.

There were a few exciting moments at the beginning and end, and I am committed to finishing the series. I absolutely love Gandrett and Nehelon (and Gordan).

I'm finding it harder to review these books as the story goes on. I feel like I'm on repeat with how much I gush about the same things.

This series is wonderful. While I feel like something is consistently missing in the series, I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's the pacing? Maybe it's too much of a slow burn for me, and I'm just DYING to get all my answers. Who knows.

I'm living for these characters. I love them all so much, I can't get enough. I'm entirely invested in each and every one of them, and I don't feel like I want to skip one character's chapters to get to another.

I am just waiting, oh so patiently, for everyone to be together. I can't wait until all of their paths cross.

Okay, this was the slowest burn ever and then when the moments finally arrive they are simply lack luster.
Gandrett and Nehelon or Mac and Taghi.
Neither led to the sort of magically written connections as I anticipated.
The constant switching of POV, especially when you’re in one when the good stuff starts happening and then bam, you’re back with Brax staring at his army?…
I spent so much time on this series, being 7 books look and I won’t be picking up the last one. I have lost care for what happens to every character at this point (and that’s like at least 5 …FIVE ..different points of view.)

I’m moving on. Unfortunate. Had such potential.
Definite YA. 16-17 year maybe.

The story is dragging and felt this book was so slow. Plus why all of sudden add in all the language when it wasn’t in the other books. First few books I felt were great and now I just want it to be done.

I feel really conflicted about this installment in the series. So far it is definitely my least favorite. It is hard to pinpoint down exactly what fell short in comparison to the previous books but I just did not end up enjoying it as much. After all, there is a lot of action keeping the readers on their toes, more than enough heartfelt scenes and a few twist and turns to spice things up. Naturally, the writing upholds the high standard from all previous books. So, what am I missing?
After some consideration, I think my dissatisfaction mainly boils down to the role of our two most beloved MCs in this book. While Nehelon and Gandrett - or just Nehelon, tbh - carried the previous books on their backs, they came across sort of bland in this one. Don't get me wrong, I love them individually and am totally invested in their romance. However, they sort of lost their shine. Their character portayal is so firmly focused and reduced to the romance aspect that it misses any of the former depth and complexity. At least that is how I saw them in this book. Furthermore, the way Valyn evolved in this book bugged me a lot. I don't really see why it was necessary to make him the villain and then give him an easy way out. It just didn't add anything to the story but some uncalled for drama.
Now, all the other side characters definitely saved this book. And that is kind of ironic, since I have never cared for them as much as for our power couple. Although I always really liked what they added to the story. On this note, I am glad that we got some closure for Mckenzie, some progress in Addie's fight and some hope in form of a romantic interest for Brax. Hands down, Brax was my favorite character in this book and his budding romance is completely adorable.
So, war is brewing and battles have already been lost. Faced with an acient evil and odds not on their side, I cannot wait to find out how our beloved chatacters will save everyone (including themselves). And I am beyond excited to hopefully see them all come together once again in their final fight and the aftermath. The fact that we ended on several cliffhangers with precious lives in the balance only exponentiates the anticipation. Argh. I want this journey to end but I dread its culmination just as much. How will I be able to say a final goodbye to this wonderful cast?

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

The book picks right where the last one ended and what an adventure this one has been. I loved the new events happening between Taghi and McKenzie, and Miitra and Muriel are most likely part of a sapphic short story which I hope will be more developed in the next book because they’re such a vibe!!

There are also other characters who I feel gave a small hint of something going on between them but nothing is set in stone, but I hope they will because I love the diversity in Angelina’s books and I feel they will add such a different tone to the book.

The book this time hooked me from the get-go, Addie’s going through hell and back but the characters I’ve loved the most were Taghi and Mac, their story has been teasing us for a long time and we’re finally getting some action – nothing smutty, but a lot of tension, stolen glances, stolen smiles and so many sweet moments with beautiful quotes!!

The story even tho is over 400 pages was a quick and fast-paced read and I’ve enjoyed it to the max. I loved the new secrets coming to life, the lineage of Gandrett finally being revealed and the new step in the relationship between Gandrett and Nehelon moves to.

The story definitely has enemies to lovers, forbidden love, found family, found friendship, and fated mate trope. Even tho I’m not a big fan of the fated mate trope this trope was made really good in the book.

There are lots of plot twists in the book that made me lose my mind and the ending was definitely mind-blowing, and I’m really curious about how this series will end because there are so many things going on in all the corners of this book that makes it complex but easy to read and be such a nice story to follow.

Wow! Just wow! So much happened in this book and I am still processing most of it!
Gandrett and Nehelon FINALLY claim each other after a lot of insanity! We got some seriously intense battles on their journey together and seriously fuck Valyn the little prick! Gandrett and Nehelon handled that whole situation with way more grace than I did because I would have just executed him - especially after he had the audacity to fuck up the moment we’ve been waiting 6 fucking books for between Gandrett and Nehelon!
Speaking of Valyn why the fuck is he mated to Surel like I’m not feeling that story line AT all!
I love that we get some more history of Gandrett and finally start to see how she and the Dragon King are connected, but I am curious as to why Liri is so powerful if Gandrett is supposedly a descendant of Vala she should have been able to stop her so we will see how this plays out.
McKenzie and Taghi FINALLY have their moment too like seriously those two were ripping my heart apart! I enjoyed their journey so much in this book and can’t wait to see how these ghosts will come into play!
The Lords of Eedwood had a lot of intense battles and Addie coming to the rescue! Love seeing this connection forming between Brax and Leonidas because that boy deserves some joy in his life!
We ended on some major cliffhangers where we wait to see how Addie will recover after Joshua tried to kill them both and exactly how Ragnar is going to use Gandrett as a weapon.
I am both ready and not at all ready for the final book! This series is doing me in!

I'm glad the romance progresses between Gandrett and Nehelon.
It was also great to hear about her heritage and how she comes more into her own in this book.
Nehelons character arc is going well too, I think he's perfect for the job he didn't want.
Love Gordon but I hope he gets a Mate.
Valyn I wanted to kill but was amused how the circumstances changed.
I'm hoping a romance happens between Palvin and Drew, I feel like there's a bit of tensio there.
Addie I really didn't like in this book, I felt like she's such a weak character until a certain point in the book and then she went back to being weak. Which sucks even more because of her condition.
McKenzie's plot also annoyed me until the later stages of the books, kinda felt like a repeat of the previous book. Though the plot twist was awesome and I like Muriel and Miitra, so I hope we get more of them.
I hope Brad's romance works out too, even though I also don't particularly like his character either. I liked him and his sister in early books, but they've gone full in later book, so I hope they kick ass in the last book.
Leonidas is one of my favourite characters, don't know what happened to him, it was left in the air. Even though I can't pronounce his name haha
Armand went through a lot in this book so I hope he and his crush have a happy ending.
Can't wait for the final book!

Enter the realms of Neredyn and you will do nothing else until your journey is complete. Filled with magic, fantasy and adventure, this series takes the reader into a world of intrigue and wonder. Readers will follow the paths of likeable characters, from strong female leads, to fierce and handsome warriors, mysterious magic welders, and noble heirs to kingdoms, as well as not so likeable evil characters seeking their own means at the cost of all others. Whilst themes of fantasy are present, it is also easy to feel connected to characters who struggle with normal human emotions of uncertainty, fear, doubt, love, courage and overcoming adversity.

A great balance with varied character development woven together throughout the chapters, delving further into the lives of characters, whilst keeping the reader seeking more and wanting to know what will happen next immediately!

For lovers of Fae, but the story is also original, with unexpected turns. Each book leaves the reader grabbing for the next immediately to continue the journey without further ado, and the Dark Refuge is no different!!

This entire series of books kept me enthralled from page one. They literally include every aspect of an epic tale that I love: fae, magic, romance, dragons, kings and queens, and an epic battle of good and evil with various aspects to keep you on edge.

The characters are all very well-rounded. The author’s writing lets you get inside and feel how everyone is feeling. You actually feel like you are growing along with each person in the story and I never once felt like I wasn’t connected to what is happening in the story.

The story itself is clean for the most part… if you like to feel the love and heart in a good romance novel, this series will do it for you! Very few references to body parts in the romance scenes. There are multiple couples in the story and almost all of them hsve the happy ending they deserve!

If I could turn this into a movie or tv series I would do it in a heartbeat. It has all of the elements necessary to keep you enthralled. Great job, Angelina! I will be following your works from here on out!

This epic adventure continues with many surprises and twists. Gandrett and Nehelon are now king and queen of the fae and both are struggling but with help from loyal friends and family they find their way and create an army to help the humans. Brax, Armand and now also Leonidas are doing their upmost to battle the dragon king and have faced heavy losses but united they do not give up even when it looks so hopeless And Mac and Taghi, continue to dance around each other as they set out on a dangerous mission for help and then there is poor poor Addie, will she ever escape the clutches of a mad man? The world building continues to amaze me, the storyline continues to be gripping and holds you close and as each mini storyline continues to get closer to being one huge epic storyline and come togetherI find myself on the edge of my seat, holding my breathe in places and anxious to read the finale.

Book 6 in the Shattered Kingdom series

Fight for your life!

The characters once again are faced with one trial after another. The heartbreak during some of those trials ripped my heart out, but it was worth it. Dark Refuge is filled with unpredictable moments, magic-wielding humans, devastatingly-handsome strong fae, ghosts, and dragons. Not to mention some of the most swoon-worthy scenes! Continued character growth and world building.

Political Alliances...Chosen Home...Rightful King...
Hope...Fear...Trust...Family...Grief...Strength...Forged Alliances...Heartbreak...Battles...

"As long as she had a breath within her, she would push herself to do whatever she could to protect the people she loved -"
"...all magic comes from somewhere..."
"Sometimes the heart doesn't know what happiness means."
"This world has seen too much pain, and it is time to show it some joy."

Holding my breath to see what lies ahead in the next book.

Great

I waited until the last book was available for me to read before I posted a review. I had bought the first one ages ago and didn’t get pulled in immediately but I’m glad I waited, although I wish I waited until the 7th was out. I’m going to start with my negatives, I did not care for the multiple points of view although I understood why they needed to happen but I am more invested in Gandrett’s story than I was in any others, therefore it pulled me away from emotional investment when the POVs switched. I did not care for Nehelon until maybe the 4th or 5th book. The positives, the world building and the relationship building was pretty good and the writing was fantastic (to me) which goes a long way. The length of these books was also fantastic, which also helps the fact that I skimmed some of the other points of views of the other characters (except Mackenzie because I enjoyed her story too) . It’s definitely a series worth reading.

I have to say how wonderful this book, indeed this series, has been.
It simply wrings the emotions out of you.
You can’t fail to bond with the characters and experience their highs and lows.
I’ve enjoyed the journey and been thoroughly entertained.
At times you could cut the tension with a knife but I find that having multiple points of view helps relieve that tension while at the same time keeping the momentum going.
This is a truly epic adventure with some adult romance moments. Generally not a fan of that but it does blend with the storyline.
All in all a most enjoyable book.
You are left with a hook at the end so you’ll be gagging for the next one.
I loved the book I hope you will too.
