This is the most beautiful pop-up book I have ever seen. The Queen a celebration of her life and reign is a beautiful little paperback book that comes in a hardback case. It’s full of educational information about our lovely Queen, with wonderful pop-up pictures on every page, that can be pulled out in a long line. It has been set out in a special way so children can read all about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll and children will adore the beautiful illustrations. Although this book only has 24 beautiful pages it doesn’t cost a lot it’s under £6 , so it’s well worth its money to keep as a souvenir.
I absolutely love mine and will keep my copy forever as a souvenir. I recommend this little book The Queen A Celebration of her life and reign, to read and keep forever.
I would like to thank Walker Books for sending me this cute pop up book to read and review
The Queen: Panorama Pops is an unusual little book. Firstly, it comes in a little hardcover case, which you then remove the panoramic pop book from – this is not hardcover, but paper. Secondly, you can open it like a normal book turning each page, of which there are ten (double-sided), or you can open it fully so you can see all the pages at once and it has a concertina effect to it. You then turn it over and read the back of the pages.
The book follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II and is a celebration of her life and reign in her 70th year as Queen. It begins with a short intro about the Queen and then talks about her early life as a princess.
Throughout the book, children will learn about her service during WWII, her marriage to Prince Philip, her coronation, the commonwealth, line of succession, family life, Silver Jubilee, The Trooping of the Colours, Buckingham Palace, and The State Opening of Parliament.
The book is quite tiny in size but it packs a real punch with all the information inside. For royalists or those wanting something for their children to learn about Queen Elizabeth II before the Platinum Jubilee this would be perfect.
I enjoyed the read and learned a few things along the way too. It is also illustrated highly and I love the ‘pop’ effect on each page.
This is a fun little pop-up book of sorts with interesting facts about the Queen and her reign. Unlike a normal book with pages to turn, this is a set of pages which are all attached, unfolding like a long paper with lots of pop ups and papers attached to each other. The pop ups and facts appear on both sides of the fold out paper and the pages are very thick and filled with colourful illustrations and text on matt paper. I’ve added some photos to better explain how this book looks and although it’s quite small in size, a pocket-sized book, it’s a fun and different way to present pop-ups and facts about the queen.
The book comes in a thick card box and you simply slot out the pop-up paper ‘book’ and start reading page by page. There is a short introduction about the queen before the first pop-up page shows a picture of the queen and her family when she was young and has a few words about her early life. Every page is about something different but are all about different things to do with the queen. There are pages on her life during World War 2, her coronation, trooping of the colour and other jubilee celebrations, to name a few. Each of these pages has a few words, one paragraph explaining that aspect of the queen and her reign and I like how I discovered some new things I didn’t know such as some of the things that are inside Buckingham Palace!
Every page is accompanied by illustrations and these are lovely. I like how the style of the pictures is quite simple but they all look so fun and engaging. You can recognise who is who in the pictures and I love some of the details too such as the background on the page about the queen’s coronation. I also love how fun each page looks with the pop-ups, part of the illustrations being on the paper that pops out of the page. There are different types of pop-ups used but it all makes looking at this much more fun. There is a chart of the queen’s line of succession at the end, and I love how this pop-up panorama as it’s called features so many fun pop-up pages to look at and read.
This is a fun introduction to the queen and I enjoyed looking at this pop-up format, unfolding it and seeing each page. If I’m honest I do prefer traditional pop-up books though, only because holding a book with proper covers feels a touch more solid than this one, but I do enjoy the idea of all these pop-ups which can be stretched out and viewed in this way, the book can stand up unfolded a little to see the panoramic view. The only thing that I feel was missing for me though, was that the book just ends with explaining about the state opening of parliament. There’s no final concluding page and for me I would have preferred a final page concluding something about the queen or her reign, seeing as we had an introduction page too. But overall a lovely and fun ‘book’ for kids to enjoy and learn about our monarch. -Thanks to Walker Books for a free copy.
