Lainey hasn't had the best start in life. Her mother is neglectful, and her stepfather is a piece of work. Still, she makes the most of life. She loves attending art college and looks forward to a time when she can be on her own.
Then one night, she is knocked down by a speeding driver, and she wakes up as a member of the undead. Not only that, she has powerful visions of an ancient evil vampire, but people are out to get her and to use her unique powers for their own gain.
With the protection of her maker Tristen, an ancient warrior, Lainey must traverse her new vampire life, attend vampire college, and try her best to stay alive.
Contains mild scenes of child abuse and neglect with violence which may trigger some listeners.
I received this book during the TBR Takeover in June '22. I has a little mix of some of my favorite books like, Harry Potter and Twilight, maybe a little Interview With a Vampire? What I enjoyed most was how much it made me laugh. I don't know if Author Ormerod meant for it to tickle me with humor or not, but it did! Lainey is surrounded by danger as she adjusts to her new life as a vampire and the risks are horrifying but there is just something about Lainey's klutzy ways that entertained me throughout it all. I am a collector of book boyfriend's and though Victor was a cutie, I would collect Tristen for my shelf. He was so protective of Laynie and I have to admit, I was a bit jealous of Christine, wink, wink! If you enjoy a book that entertains you, you will enjoy this book!
Trigger warning My old scenes of child abuse and neglect
This book is about Lainey who gets hit by a car and becomes a member of the undead to protect her maker. Tristan she goes to vampire college. This is an amazing take on the life vampire in the transversing the troubles that she might have how to survive as a vampire. I love the works The author has created and this one is no different. I love how Nicola is able to make stories that keep you flipping the pages she writes stories that suck you in and keep you reading love this story!
This book saved me from a reading slump. It was fast paced but could also be savored. It did have some grammatical and spelling errors that could be distracting at times. I really enjoyed this book, I waffled between a 4- or 5-star review and decided I just needed to take the jump and give it 5 stars. There was a sweet young romance in the story but nothing outlandish. We take a journey through the beginning of afterlife as a vampire. In her human life she lived a very less than ideal life. She was turned into a vampire on a whim which is not usual, most vampires are selected for what they can bring to the community. Shortly after turning they realize that she is a telepath being able to see glimpses from another's point of view. Such a cute and good read.
I really enjoyed this book by Nicola. A different side to vampires, not all of it is "sparkling" in the sun. Providing the characters with being along their own kind and uniting them with studies and a future was not what I expected reading this. There is conflict, romance and determination in this like I haven't read recently.
I found this book on the tbr takeover and love vampires so I decided to give it a go. I really like the story and I became quickly invested in the main characters' life. However, I've dropped my rating down to 3 stars because there were a lot of spelling mistakes and missing punctuation which sometimes made the book hard to read/follow. If the book gets re-edited, I won't hesitate to buy it.
The characters were amazing!! I truly enjoyed reading and getting to know the main character. She was strong willed and stubborn which made her character that much more interesting.
The storyline was incredible, though there were some Grammer and punctuation issues, it didn't take away from the story!! I highly recommend this read!!
This book is very interesting and has a wonderful storyline. Super relatable to my life although I was never a vampire (unless it was in my past life). The flow of the book works well and the chapters are just the right length. Highly recommend
This book was amazing! The story line is epic and it easily flows the whole book. The characters are great as well personally I think Tristen is my favorite. I have never read anything from the author before but I was blown away by this book.
Teenage Vampires that aren’t mushy, cranky, rage against the world. This was a great read and I’m hoping this will be a series. I want to know the back stories of some of the characters, future stories for most of them as well.
This was a good easy vampire story. There was a few little spelling or grammer errors but they did not distract from the good story. I wish this was a series cause I would love to see where the characters go from here.
I loved this story so much. It's not that often I read a book that has me not wanting to put it down but this book had me in deep very quickly. A little more editing could make this top notch but didn't impact my ability to read and enjoy!
I didn't know what to expect but I loved it. When you read teenage vampire, there's a lot coming to mind. Brats mostly, but Lainey had a completley different upbrining and is shows. Still some teenage hormones but the story was really really good. N0t your typical vampire story either, had 'the chosen' vibe but not completley. There was a reason to why she's so powerful. The bond between maker and child was really nice to read and I loved their relationship.
