Kinsley Skeenbauer, owner of Summoned Goods & Sundries and Craft Donuts, believes Coventry’s upcoming food festival is going to be a weekend of delicious dishes, exciting entertainment, and festive frolicking. And it is… right up until she goes to pick up Lilith on the second morning and finds her dead.
But, you can’t keep a bad witch down. After the funeral, Lilith turns up again. Except that she’s… different. She also can’t remember who killed her. So, she’ll be no help solving the crime.
Or will she?
Since Lilith is technically back, some members of the Coven want to put the whole mess behind them, but Kinsley can’t let it go. There’s a killer on the loose, and who knows who will be next? Couple that with Brighton’s sudden bloodlust for vengeance, and Kinsley has her hands full.
When the murder investigation goes off the rails, some of Coventry’s most guarded secrets are in danger of exposure. If that happens, it could be an end to their relatively peaceful lives in Coventry.
At least Kinsley has her secret weapon. Meri won’t stop until the killer is brought to justice. He’ll help his witch solve the crime one spell at a time.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
spectacularly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is a spectacular entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. It is also one of my favorite series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. This series was a spinoff of an original series that starred the mother of the main character in this series. That series ran for about 12 bucks And her daughter that she had tours in that series grew up and is the main character in this series. It is it a bit into the future but not so far that it makes it sci-fi or weird. The town of Coventry is a town that says upon a line And originally there were two families of witches that lived in the town and ruled the town. The town is full of humans as well as witches and there’s a magic spell over the town that makes humans not notice the magic. Kinsley is the leader of the coven and is also the main character. She is married to the local sheriff And her family the Skeenbore are the main family of witches in charge of magic around the town. Her mother was the last of the line of the other family of witches who helped found the town. She married Kinsley’s father a Skeenbore witch. Like her mother before her. Kinsley has a neck for solving crimes and murderers around town. Especially when there’s a bit of magic involved. She owns a herbal/magic shop that caters to tourists as well as a back room that caters to actual witches. She also owns a donut shop across the street. She is a busy witch and always tends to find those responsible for crimes and mischief around town. Is a very entertaining series that at times can get a bit darker in the story lines but are still very entertaining and a fun read. Check them out.
I really enjoy this story. Meri is delightful as usual. This episode with Lilith had an interesting twist. I look forward to seeing how that story line goes. I have enjoyed so many of Sara’s books. Only favor I ask is please clean up the typos. There were a lot in this release. Meri deserves better!
The girls are getting older, Thorn and Kinsley are going strong. The coven is doing good, all in all everything is doing good. Well except for Kinsleys great aunt Lilith, her death is a mystery and wend Kinsley all over trying to solve her death. With Meri by her side she can do it. Love this series and can't wait for the next book.💚💙
Not the band! Don’t bust out your Aqua Net. Kinsley finds Lilith dead after being poisoned. She investigates her murder. ME ruled it a suicide. Lilith-esque (aka New Lilith) turns up at the funeral celebrant meal after the funeral. While Kinsley learns a lot about Lilith during the investigation. Lilith stole a dog, had an affair with her nieces boyfriend, and saved a dying cow. Kinsley is absolutely overwhelmed by the last thing she learns about Lilith.
Random side stories that didn’t add to the story other than word count: 1) Protesters - the town has had no issues with this in any previous books, so no precedence was set. 2) Goats - sentient goats, who are still people inside, terrorizing the town. So much so that a neighbor gets arrested for firing a gun. Firing a weapon at an animal who is destroying your property is not illegal. 3) Mini-goats - Okay this is actually just funny. It’s basically pointless with the exception of demonstrating Hecates power and control. Also that she can use darker magic for non-lethal and extremely entertaining reactions. 4) Herd - shipping the goats off and then bringing the goat herd back to Coventry and never returning them back to people.
Coventry's Food Festival was off to a much better start than the Beltane Festival. Lilith wants to be early each day to be sure to try everything she can. Kelsey is driving her over and when she arrives with Meri for the second day, Lilith sends her off on an errand to her shop Summoned Goods and Sundries. Meri went with her, and when they return Meri tries to stop her from entering the house.
In the short span of time they were gone, Lilith had died and it looks like murder.
There's much to be done, and the Aunties sort of take over. Lilith was one of them after all.
It's a sad occasion all around and at the funeral protesters show up. They end up as goats since they wouldn't back down, even for Thorn, the Sheriff.
There's a huge surprise after the funeral and the investigation brings many things about Lilith to light, and the results are certainly not what I expected.
Plenty of suspense in this one along with family, love and support.
She is hoping the food festival will be full of fun for everyone and it is to start with. She then finds her dead and a funeral will take place, just when she thought it was all over with she reappears not remembering anything. What is going on? How has she come back to the land of the living? Can she find out? Follow her to see if she can solve it all.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have loved this series of books, which were well written and full of plot twists and humor. Unfortunately, the last two books are like they have been written by a different author. They are full of typos, missing words, and grammatical errors that really detract from the pleasure of reading. The reader should not have to decipher what a sentence is meant to say. The author needs to find a proofreader before publishing a rough draft.
Lovely entertaining read Good characters, twisty plot, and enough teasers to hook me on the next in the series. The only reason it's not a five star for me is the typos. I mark and submit them to whoever is supposed to check on this problem. They interrupt the flow of reading. Hope springs eternal that the next will be typo free. I recommend Sara Bourgeois books.
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In coventry during the annual food festival Kingsley go to get her aunt lilith only to be set on a errand then find her aunt dead now she on the case to find what happened to her. Fantastic
I can definitely recommend this series. As the story gets better with each book, I can't wait to read more. A quirky, magical family just tries to live their lives as things go topsy turvey. I can't wait to keep reading the next books.
Black Magic Mushrooms was a twisted mystery about Kinsley's aunt who loved shadow magic. It's a bit meandering and repetitive compared to others in this series. One didn't get the full force of the developed characters' personalities.
This book was amusing, thought provoking, and unexpected! I totally loved all the twists and turns. My favorite parts involved goats. As you read, you will know what I'm hunting at. Once again, looking forward to the next book!
Lilith was found dead by Kinsley. Everyone was hysterical thinking a witch killer was around offing witches. Not true, the truth is stranger than fiction.
