How would you solve your own kidnapping? And what if the reason behind it was even stranger than you could ever imagine?
When detective Scott Drayco is abducted and given a mysterious puzzle to solve, his predicament is bizarre enough. But after he's released and one of his kidnappers is killed—a man who allegedly died five years ago—what began as a puzzling situation turns into an even stranger quest.
Meanwhile, Drayco's father, Brock, has a new girlfriend with a shady background, and the timing of the relationship feels far too coincidental. When an even shadier connection also appears to be involved in Drayco’s abduction, the stakes become deeply personal.
Feeling stymied at every turn—and unable to get a song the dead man was obsessed with out of his head—Drayco wonders if he’s too close to the case to be objective. Who was the mastermind behind the kidnapping, and what were their real motives? And was the death of the one kidnapper an accident ... or murder?
Drayco does know one thing for certain: he has to get to the bottom of the mystery soon, or more people could die ...
Thanks for visiting my profile! I'm an author of crime fiction, including the Scott Drayco mystery series, which has been honored by the American Independent Writers, Maryland Writers Association, named Best Mystery in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and been a finalist for the Shamus Awards, the Silver Falchion, the Daphne Awards, the Foreword Book Review Awards, and the Kindle Book Awards. Library Journal said of the series, "worth putting on your reading list," and I hope you'll think so, too.
Scott Drayco is at it again in a fairly convoluted story entwining music, history and greed.
From being kidnapped he's forced to try to solve a puzzle and plunges him into a tight little cadre of people who will do anything possible to get what they want, including murder. Are people that cynical? Is there a shred of altruism left in Scott's world? At times it seems not but the reader may be left scratching their heads as the book concludes. I'd give it a 4.5 and might go looking for another one of this series.
[Disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntary read and reviewed it]
Melody of Murder: A Scott Drayco Mystery (Scott Drayco Mystery Series Book 7), my second read from author B.V. Lawson. Captivating, with well-developed characters coupled with an outstanding storyline with its intricately woven twists and turns. Lawson does a good job with her character development; you can like and/or hate these characters. "I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." Now I need to go back to the beginning & get Played to Death (Scott Drayco Mystery #1). I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Scott Drayco books are always interesting to read. This book starts with a kidnapping. The ransom: solution to a puzzle. Thus begins the journey of Scott Drayco to discover who was behind the kidnapping and what was the cryptic meaning of the puzzle. Why was it important?
BV Lawson tells a story that kept me captivated following Scott through the many avenues that climax to a surprising conclusion. Ms. Lawson instills her books with interesting characters as well as plenty of mystery and action.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my opinion.
Scott has been kidnapped -- to solve a puzzle. Why? There are also things that the kidnapper knows about him, but he doesn't know how they know. Then he is released pretty much unharmed, confused but unharmed. But the puzzle haunts him, he didn't solve it completely. The thing that really bugged him the most was a song he heard, an old song that he'd never heard done like this before. Then people are being killed that he knows had to do with his kidnapping. Is he also on this 'hit list'? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Very entertaining.
This starts out with a kidnapping and the action continues throughout with lots of suspense to keep you reading. There is so much going on and trying to keep up with Drayco will make you feel like you’re on a roller coaster ride. There are many characters to make the story line more than interesting. I highly recommend this book as well as others by this author. You can’t go wrong with this series.
Another great Scott Drayco mystery. Detective Drayco is kidnapped, and the ransom is to solve a cryptic puzzle. When he is released, he is determined to find his kidnapper and to discover why. The novel catches your attention from the beginning. I wanted to keep reading to find out the solution.
It started with a kidnapping and rapidly led to not one, but three murders. And the puzzle Scott solves, but not quite. Who is the mastermind behind this whole production? The store owner who sells metal? The sculptor? The retired opera diva? Great story!
