I am Blackmane, feared warlord of the Pleiades.
I have captured a human princess.
Pretty. Sweet. Innocent.
Ripe for the plucking.
I will have my way with her, and her father will pay handsomely for her return.

Won’t he?

As the days go by and my ransom demands go unmet,
As my guards go missing and are found in pieces,
As my spacefaring stronghold falls into terror and chaos, I realize I have made a huge mistake.

This sweet royal angel is an absolute monster.
There’s only one thing to be done with little monsters.
They need to be broken. They need to be tamed.
And they need to be claimed. Forever.

a dumpster full of dog shit on fire.

I didn’t get too far into this hot mess before DNFing. The first bit of oozing putrid slime to assault me was this gem, from the hero’s POV: “Before her father pays the ransom, I intend to put a baby in her belly. She will surrender to my seduction as so many have before her. My seed will travel with her back to her world, and my genetic legacy will emerge between those milky thighs to rule again. By my reckoning, my genetic code sits in the houses of more than a thousand ruling classes. I am everywhere. I am become everyone.“

So we have scumrat hero who fathers children and then abandons them. What a guy!

And then there was the heroine, obviously beyond a sociopath. She was soulless, cruel and somehow this is considered funny. From her POV: “The guard steps out in front of me, blocking the way to the kitchen. I don’t even think about it. I stab him. Nobody else stands between me and the kitchen. I do encounter quite a few other guards. Most of them don’t bother me. Possibly because I still have the last guard’s head tucked under my arm.”

And I’m out…life is too short to waste on such ugly, degraded, toxic shit.

(This really is a 2 STAR, but I'm changing it to a 3 because it made me laugh)
"She's a cross between a serial killer, a puppy, and a model. I don’t know whether to spank her, fuck her, or shower her with treats. Probably all of the above."

Did I like it? - It was diffffffferrrrrrent 😬😅

So I've been on this weird alien kick ever since I read Captive of the Horde King (Horde Kings of Dakkar, #1) by Zoey Draven and I Married a Naga (Prime Mating Agency #2) by Regine Abel . I read the blurb, it was $0.99, and I thought WTH... let's try it.

Yeah... I'm having trouble figuring out what the heck I just read. It was batshit crazy, but I finished it (kinda😬). Skimmed after the public .

~*~Spoiler Warning~*~

So let's start from the beginning. We meet Astaria Grace, crown princess of Pleiades, and she is being kidnapped by an oversized alien with massive arms. Soon she finds out that she was kidnapped by no ordinary alien, but by Blackmane himself.

Yup. So that's him. He's what every ethereal incarnation of pure royalty dreams of. He is no mere brute. Blackmane is a famous alien and princess Astaria's father's greatest enemy. He commands thousands of men and all tremble before his greatness. His plan is to "RANSOM" the princess for money, and to ALSO put a baby in her belly.

Lovely 🤮

"My seed will travel with her back to her world, and my genetic legacy will emerge between those milky thighs to rule again."

"By my reckoning, my genetic code sits in the houses of more than a thousand ruling classes. I am everywhere. I am become everyone."

Yeeeaaah... YUCK! I Don't like it either 🤷‍♀️

See... You really think I would have stopped there, but I DIDN'T! I don't know why! Like I said, it was different and my brain 🧠 just said, "let's keep going!"

So our special widdle pwincess is locked in her cell and hungry. She's not about to let metal bars and a guard stop her, so she gets all stabby. And she's like really good at it 😳.

"The guard steps out in front of me, blocking the way to the kitchen.

I don’t even think about it.

I stab him.

Nobody else stands between me and the kitchen. I do encounter quite a few other guards. Most of them don’t bother me. Possibly because I still have the last guard’s head tucked under my arm."

Honestly, it was kinda funny that this little doll like creature just couldn't control herself from stabbing anything and everything in her way. I mean she broke out of her cell, beheaded a guard, and barricaded herself inside the kitchen eating her way through all the dessert supplies. How is that not funny?!? Soon Blackmane finds out that the princess was locked away in her tower not to keep her safe from others, but to keep others safe from her. Yeah...

“Is that why he hasn’t responded to our ransom?”

“Oh. No.” She’s back to those stiff smiles now. “He won’t respond to that. He’ll wait.”

“For what?”

She looks at me with that eerie gaze, the one that speaks to some disconnect or schism deep in her little soul.

“For me to destroy you, of course.”

See... like it's weird, but it's funny. Morbid, but funny. Blackmane really had no idea what he was getting himself into. 🙈

She gets punished/spanked for killing Blackman's men.

"You. Will. Not. Kill. Guards."

And of course she likes it and it leads to sex because that's what happens when you read weird alien WTF books. And Blackmane loves it because she is, "the most adorable little murderous maniac I’ve ever had over my knee."

Oh! Something that bugged me. She's suppose to be SUPER innocent. She's been kept innocent because her maidenhead is very valuable and her father threatened that if she got pregnant, he wouldn't keep her safe anymore. He's afraid of her having an heir. So princess Astaria was super innocent before becoming a freak for Blackmane's armored, thick, ridged, and scaled rod. 😂😂😂 (That sentence totally made me laugh)

“Do you know what mating is, Astaria?”

“Mating? As in being friends?”

But then she knows she's about "to come"😅. At this point of ridiculousness, I really shouldn't care about this detail, but I did. 😂😂😂

We learn some really reasonable wisdom from Astaria.

"If you speak for longer than two minutes, you’ve lost everyone. That’s why I prefer to stab first. Gets the attention and holds it."

I mean... I can't fault her logic. 😅

✅ We get some Faye
✅ A magic sword
✅ Another reality
✅ A humanitarian mission
✅ A War
✅ HEA (kinda)

"There is no doubt that she has dedicated herself to me the same way I have dedicated myself to her. We are a match made in the stars, however fundamentally unlikely. We have not explicitly spoken of this bond, but I think we both feel it."

I definitely didn't feel the love, but everything else was weird so yeah... let's just go with it. 😅

I didn't love it
I didn't hate it
I (for some reason) kept reading it
Overall, I'm going to call this a win (I think 😬)

I mean...

“Is being weird a major concern for you? You’ve been a lot worse than weird.”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~

This book is...

✅ 1 Tbsp of The Risk (Mindf*ck, #1) by S.T. Abby
✅ 1 Tbsp of Delirium (Atom and Evil, #1) by Myra Danvers
✅ 1 cup of
✅ And a mountain of CRAZY.

WTH did I just read?!?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

(Just more quotes I enjoyed)
"Being declared special at birth destroys any attempt at proper character development."

"And it has been simply ages since I have stabbed anything."

"With Astaria there are no good choices, there are only less bad ones."

“What are they wearing?”

“It’s a new design. We call it our Astaria blues. It has been designed to thwart the way you kill. Pretty enough to attend a princess, but strong enough to survive her.”

“I can see that,” I frown.

“Is that fair?”

“It’s not unfair,” Blackmane says."

This was a short but engaging book. I loved Astoria and Blackmane. She was the best psycho girl I've read in along time and Blackmane was just the guy to reign her in and tame her a little - but not too much. Unfortunately, this book had too many inconsistencies from page to page on just how naïve Astoria was (one example: at one point, she's utterly clueless about orgasms and further along in the book she thinks about when she used to masturbate. Another, she is afraid to give up her virginity and become useless so she is completely fortified against rape but then acts like she doesn't even know what mating is or how it's done) I would have been a bit more all in, but I kept getting sidetracked by these errors.

Loved it!

It's deliciously wicked, bloody, steamy, and the characters are totally psychotic!

I loved Blackmane and Astaria both! Fabulously hilarious characters! I laughed through most of the book. It was funny and well-written. If you don't have a smutty, sense of humor with a tinge of violence then you might not like this book. It's very tongue and cheek, so if you are too serious you won't like it. But on the other hand if you are that serious, what the heck are you doing reading this genre anyway?

This is a must read for people who enjoy well-written, humorously dark, alien romances and off-the-wall and totally different characters! If that is you, read this one today.

This was so good! Lots of humor. WHY was she so hard to kidnap, hmmm? Why are people mysteriously dying on his ship? A good fun read and it's hot.

well well well

This was as good as bucked by the alien. Here are my complaints: I loved these books so much I wanted more!! They are so good but too short, I crave more detail and these book have the potential to be great series; so many opportunities to branch off into other series about other characters. All this to say I love Loni Renards books and writing. Ransom specifically have such a great story like- very creative and unique. I crave to read a long detailed series from this author! I highly recommend and am quickly moving onto another book of Lokis perhaps a series this time!

Odd and twisted - dark romance meets screwball comedy

This book is bananas - a violent, sex-filled, hilarious and demented rom com

I was hooked on this book from the moment I read the blurb. Astaria is a beautiful princess held in a heavily fortified prison by her father. Blackmane is the alien warlord who steals her intending to ransom her. He soon discovers the bars were as much to keep her in as to deny anyone else access. Once aboard his ship, he places her in a cell believing her suitably cowed by his formidable reputation. Astaria however is not what she seems or more accurately there is much more to her than first appearances suggest. Astaria quickly (and efficiently if ruthlessly) kills several of her guards. Blackmane is astonished and dismayed to realize she's unhinged and homicidal. He's also wildly attracted to and amused by her plus he sees beneath to the lonely woman who craves love. Blackmane intends to make her submit to him and impregnate her. Like everyone else who's tried to control he learns it's much easier said than done. She's as much a barbarian as he and more than a match for him. When Astaria's past comes calling, Blackmane centers her and protects her. Of course Astaria is oh so capable of protecting herself. I can't tell you the number of times I laughed aloud while reading this book.

Fair warning, this book is not for the faint of heart. Blackmane publicly disciplines her in front of his crew which in turn becomes a very public sex scene. A very hot, very raunchy, public sex scene. Astaria also kills with great skill and little remorse. It's a tribute to the author's talent that the barbarian warlord Blackmane is the voice of reason who teaches beautiful, sheltered princess Astaria about love AND that both characters are so likeable. I want more of these two!!

Oh my goooooshhhhh! This book!!! 😂😂 🖤🖤 I was so not prepared for this, it was SO MUCH FUN. The female character in this book is EVERYTHINGGGG, EVERYTHING! I laughed through this entire book, it was so good. Yes the story line was fine, I mean, I didn’t find this book for a strong story line. I was looking for trashy smut, and yes there is really good smut in here but it’s honestly second to the banter of this book. I will probably read and reread this one because it made me giggle so much. I love that the main character was just such a chipper, demented little psycho 😂

I’m not sure if there was trigger warnings in this book because I personally don’t look for that, but if there wasn’t, there definitely should be. Like….all the triggers lol

Ugh it was so good, okay that’s all.

At this point, Loki Renard has so many books out and they follow a certain formula. The hero will always like spanking the heroine and says she deserves punishment, at some point the hero will have sex with the heroine publicly as punishment (but of course she loves it) and they will live happily ever after.

I enjoyed the book anyway. There was a lot of humor. The heroine kept killing people and laughing about it. She also broke into the kitchen and ate most of the desserts after locking the others out with the thigh bone of a guy she murdered.

Never a dull moment!

Oh my! What can I say about this book that doesn't give spoilers? A murderous princess, a long suffering warlord, and hijinks ensue! You always get smexy value from Loki. I think this was the least dark of her books I've read, but still awesome!

This was an ok read. I really liked the premise, but I feel like it was a bit rushed.

I liked the idea that the h was an unsuspecting psycho that the H underestimates until it's too late, however once they start interacting and he works out that she's killing his men it feels like their connection and exploration of each other's personality is on the back burner. Then the interaction with the Fae dignataries comes and BAM, she's in another dimension and she becomes Queen of the people she finds there after killing the bad guy that nabbed her. Then BAM again! They're back in their normal dimension and the H and h have realised that they love each other after she got kidnapped.

It kind of felt like when you have a quickie with your partner - it feels good and was satisfactory, but it would have been so much more fulfilling and fun if it was longer and you could really explore everything.

Overall: 5/10 for the book and 4.5/10 for spice.

Ransom by Loki Renard is a dark alien romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Aaron Smith.

This is the first book of Loki's that I have read, and it won't be my last. It's been a while since I read an Alien romance and I sure have missed them. I really enjoyed the relationship between Astaria and Blackmane. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.

Aaron did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of his work in the future.

This author is known for writing erotica on the weirder side, and this is no exception. I really enjoyed the sociopathic murderous heroine who didn’t know how to love. It was definitely humorous at times. This wasn’t too hardcore as far as the kinks went. It just had spanking and a exhibitionism punishment scene. My least favorite thing that docked stars was the Hero. He was so icky for having impregnated thousands of women across the galaxy to “spread his seed”.

And by cute, I mean a little dark, a little twisty, and a little stabby and I totally loved it! The princess was nothing that anyone expected, and I love unexpected women and characters. And her outfit choices just tickled me. Astaria has inspired me to find a knife to hide in my hair. (If only I didn't have such thin hair!) And the ending was great. I was wondering how they were going to wrap up this little book so quickly. But Loki Renard managed to do it in a perfect way. If a second book came out after this, I would most definitely read/ listen to it. I think Renard left himself a lot of room to create another book after this. Now that Astaria has her own little mission, and she has Blackmane to help her. Who would have thought, an alien pirate would be the good influence. But that the most you're gonna get outta me! I hate feeling as if I may be revealing too much. But book summaries you read before buying a book give away just as much, if not more. I think. lol. I just want to get across how different this book is, in a good way.
The narrator did a pretty good job. He was easy to understand, and I was able to speed the book u a decent amount and still pick up everything comfortably. I definitely think a dual narrator would have been great here because the POV changes multiple times throughout each chapter. But overall, this narrator did a pretty good job doing the whole book himself. I enjoyed him. And I recommend this book...as long as you don't have delicate sensibilities. (lol)

Ransom is a wonderfully written sci-fi alien romance. The plot, world-building, and characters are well-developed, imaginative, and intriguing, holding my attention. The connection and chemistry between Astaria and Blackmane were well-portrayed. Their story was fast-paced, delightful, humorous, and steamy; I was definitely entertained.

Aaron Smith did an amazing job with the narration and portraying the characters. His deep voice was perfect for Blackmane, and his tone adjusted very well for Astaria. Overall, Ransom was an entertaining and enjoyable listen, one I'll recommend to fans of the genre.

So. Astoria is an absolute unit. Pretty princess but like if Harley Quinn and princess peach made a baby. She’s taken by bloodbane the most wanted warrior brute in the galaxy cept jokes on him. All those traps and things they thought were to keep intruders from taking her out are actually to keep little miss dainty woman of mass destruction in. She’s secretly the bad guy from kung fu panda but hawt. So hunky alien man takes her. She unalives some guards makes her way to the kitchen and eats all the sweets. Real talk best escape plan. Just wait and 🔪 them off right but she’s had a crush on this man’s for a while. Like kissed his poster as a teenager type. Her body is wrapped in an entire arsenal and she giggles with glee when they think she’s helpless. If you’re looking for a lot of wtaf read this. It is a novella which means not a lot of room for plot etc but def an enjoyable read. Plus alien man peen and spankings. Yumm

Excerpt: She is a prize perfect for ransom, and I have gone to extreme lengths to take her. There is just one small problem. She has broken out of her cell, beheaded a guard, and barricaded herself inside the kitchen and is eating her way through dessert supplies. No sweet treat is safe.

More than a hand few😜

It's not everyday you read a book about a princess locked in a tower not because she is awaiting a kiss from her prince, but because everyone fears she will get a little stabby stabby if he were to kiss her without her permission.

Astoria is unapologetic for who she is and how she acts. She is this way because of how her father treats her. She isn't afraid to defend herself and she learned early on the importance of always having at least one blade on herself at all times. She knows how her father sees her. Humph, she is basically a walking womb to that man, a heifer to be sold at the highest price. She isn't going to let any one lay a finger on her.

Blackmane thought he was soooo clever getting past all those tapes and stealing the princess. Ohhh, he is going to get such a HUGE ransom for her. Hehe he 🤑🤑🤑. Too bad he never considered those traps were to keep something in and less to keep things out cause now he has his hands full with a little blood-thristy harridan who won't stop stabbing everyone in sight. To top it off, her father doesn't WANT HER BACK. What's a space pirate to do?

Astaria Grace is crown princess of the Pleiades and has been kidnapped but a hulking alien, Blackmane. Well known by many, Blackmane is a xenovork. He stories are legend but he is seem to fail this princess. Astaria isn’t a wilting flower. She certainly isn’t about to make Blackmane life easy. She may seem like a spoiled princess but he will learn just is something special.

OK this story is funny. A damsel taken from her tower, not afraid and is moving through the ship without a care in the world. I love that she is barricaded in the kitchen, eating away. Blackmane just can’t seem to understand how a mere human can do all this and yet he still needs to take control. We learn about Asta and her life. I have to say it is rather sad life. A princess lethal yet alone, unwanted. We learn about her parentage as well as her drive. She is funny though. Blackmane seemed like a pirate but is actually a rather sweet commander that rules well. Just a few “stabby stab” issues. We have a world to save, an evil king to take, control of the world, and love.

as wonderful as I expected

I was sold from the blurb. Astaria is actually even worse than I expected. She’s spoiled and rash and murderous… and a ton of fun. I don’t think I’ve ever been as entertained or laughed so much. That’s saying a lot because all of Loki Renard’s heroines are witty, sarcastic, and snarky. Blackmane kidnaps Astaria and intends to ransom her back to the king. Those plans are foiled thanks to Astaria’s penchant for murder and her father’s own greed and depravity. Blackmane got much more than he bargained for. Astaria is by far the worst, but it’s for good reason. I found her to be terrible but also interesting, and I enjoyed learning about her past and how she came to be who she was. I never could have imagined this story going the way it went and that pleases me immensely. It’s well written, engaging, entertaining, unpredictable, and we meet yet another fascinating alien species. Loki Renard is a phenomenal writer, masterful storyteller, and unrivaled creator of worlds. Fantastic work!
