Fright Bites: Short Tales of Terror

Rate this book
A creak in the night. A spreading stain on the ceiling. The sound of a child's toy.

Seemingly innocent, but these and other innocuous moments form the seeds of terror in these stories from Micah Edwards. Each is a tense tale of terror, self-contained and ready to keep you up late at night, too afraid to turn off the lights.

So, dive in if you dare, and discover that, from construction zones to attics to the blankets of your own bed, nothing is safe. Nothing is secure. And nothing can protect you from the horrors that await.

This wasn't bad as far as short horror goes but the voices of the narrators were all so similar that it started to feel like a lot of bad things happened to this one same guy.

Imaginative, Original Stories with a Disturbing Throughline

Enjoyable, frightening, quick read of terrifyingly twisty little tales. There is a recurring thread that pops up like a nightmare at interval in some of the stories. The sum total is original and the mindscape is suspect.

I’m a fan of short story collections when done well and this is one of the best I’ve experienced recently. Fright Bites is 30 or so short stories by Micah Edwards and for me a 5💫 read.

Each story a strange little bite of horror. A glimpse into various experiences, the characters and worlds are different and yet some stories having an overlapping point that works to help the entire collection feel even more connected. The tone throughout feels consistent - elements of surreal, bizarre, creepy paranoia, dread and fear that comes from seeing what others can’t and knowing it may overtake you.

I love that many of the bites feel like the storyteller is talking directly to you - to share their madness.

This was kindly sent to me by veloxbooks how amazing is this cover! 🤡 this short story collection was so fun to read, I really enjoyed it, I think it had the perfect mix of spooky and downright *weird*, it reminded me a lot of creepypasta, if you like a quick dose of creepy I highly recommend, it would be great for Halloween reading (but Halloween is everyday right?) my favourite story was Crawlspace and Find Me. Do you like short stories? I feel like they can get you out of a reading slump, I find it equivilent to watching an episode of a horror series instead of a movie, not too much to digest at once but enough to keep you engaged and entertained and ready for more (yagetme or am I being odd?)

This book was tons of spooky fun! I loved the compilation of short stories; the book felt frightening and fast-paced. I also was pleased with the endlessly creative subject matters. With topics centering upon sensory depravation, insomnia, and "toy" trauma, the culmination of each story kept me eager for the next. I recommend this book for horror lovers in search of something quick-paced and creepily fun.

Okay

I gave this a three because some of the last few stories were confusing as in, I couldn't understand what the author was getting at. Most were fun to read.

stories were on

The stories were ok. Some caught my attention but a few I had to push through to read them, no matter how short they were.
