This is the second book in the Wayfarer Inn series. I enjoyed spending time with Leslie, Michelle, and Jill as they continued on in bringing the Wayfarer Inn back to life. Getting to know more about these sisters was fun. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Leslie, Michelle, and their newly-discovered half-sister Jill share ownership and operation of their late father's inn on Martha's Vineyard. The second in a series, this novel picks up the story a year* after their father's death, after the sisters have completely a renovation to save the inn. While cleaning out the storeroom, Leslie shoulders the main responsibility for the Inn. Michelle, an aspiring writer and newly single mother, throws herself into activity to deal with her own relationship trauma and tends to get carried away in her ambitious plans. Meanwhile, Jill is dealing with her mother's declining health and an harassing ex-employer.

Leslie is inspired to throw a May Day party, to honor her parents and carry the next chapter of the inn forward. But when she discovers a lock box, the contents may undo her nostalgic intentions. Each sister begins keeping secrets, which they had hoped to move beyond. When a nor'easter descends on the May Day party, a drama storm blows through the inn as the sisters and their guests shelter in place.

The novel has good character dynamics. I enjoyed the sisters and their relationship. The novel doesn't have a substantial central plot and is intended to read as a three part series, but there is plenty action and several subplots that carry the story, and provide character interest. The May Day and mother-daughter themes in the story made this a nice selection for early May reading. The drama in the last 20% became a bit over the top. I did particularly dislike the brother's storyline, and although I have not yet read the other books in the series, I was really dissatisfied by his behavior in certain scenarios and the explanations given for it.

I started reading the series out of order after receiving this title for free; the timing was right to read a May Day centered story. Although this is the second book in the series, I felt I was able to follow the story fine as a stand alone. There plentiful references to the plot and events in first book, which are explained well enough that the reader can follow the character's history and stories without trouble.

The book does end on a bit a cliffhanger, to make you want to read the next book to continue the story, but also not the type of cliffhanger that spoils the enjoyment of this book. The ending starts a new story rather than leaving the main threads of this book hanging.

I often feel obligated into finishing any book I've started. I can not always say that I want to keep reading free book selections, particularly when self-published (and often lacking in editing). But I enjoyed this book well enough that I set aside other excellent and professional published books that I was reading simultaneously in order to read this. The text was clean, and I only noted one or two spots toward the end that could have used some editing attention. I would read the other books in the series. My sincere compliment to the author.

* Note: the text says "a year" (page 10, location 204); I am not sure why the book's description says four months later. A year makes much more sense from the plotting perspective.

Meh

Predictable, schmaltzy, soap opera. I may or may not read the third one. I occasionally take a break from my heavier subject matter but I was fortunate that the last 5 books or so that I read before this were spectacular - how often does that happen? - so I might not need to reach for an easy, mindless one. One thing that would make these milder better is to have someone who knows how to edit go through and correct the typos, for goodness sake!

Holds your attention

I really loved the first book. I felt this one was not quite as good. For three sisters they have more problems than you can multiply, and the way some of them ate resolved seemed to unrealistic and abrupt at the ending of the book. All in all, it was still a good read.

good trilogy

Interesting family twists to keep the reader interested. I enjoy reading how the characters solving their issues. It is lite reading, but good for summer time relaxation.

Available free 4/30/2023 - 2nd in a series and I have read the 1st one. This one was good - light read and short (about 2 hours reading time and a cliff-hanger at the end). Looks like maybe they took one book and divided it into 3 parts? I wasn't sure if I would remember the characters but the book did a good job reminding me of the main characters and their stories.

Not having read the first book in the series I found myself a little confused in the beginning but it all sort of made sense eventually. This is an easy beach read about some sisters that now own an Inn. The May Day Party is in the works when a big storm hits. Among other things...

I love these stories and the characters but this is a really cheap ending. I like the books well enough to want to read the next one. Leaving me hanging on a cliff is unnecessary and cheesy.

I didn’t dislike the book but it really didn’t contain that much of a story to keep me engaged or want to read the 3rd one.

I found this book first without reading the first book, but this was still enjoyable. I would enjoy reading the first book and continuing the series.

A great read

I hate how plans don't go as planed , that's how it's going for the characters. A spring storm and the May day party bring out all the crazy stuff in people a and when it rains it pours . Will the characters every find happiness they deserve . Book three is waiting.

This is a family saga, a genre which I normally quite enjoy but I found this one pretty boring to be honest. It is the 2nd one in a series called the Wayfarer Inn trilogy and although it is a standalone story I think that I might have enjoyed it more if I had read the first book so I had more of the back story. That said book one might be equally as boring and predictable. I wouldn't bother if I were you.
