Just finished this book and immediately I want more. Throughout my reviews so far of the previous volumes I’ve described the series as a slow burning fire in the fireplace you might like to stay warm. It’s not a raging fire instead it’s contistent competent and as a result refreshing. It gives you just enough of what you need to make you want to keep going and keeps you comfortable.
No this is a slice of life journey and in the fourth volume the journey continues. Has the title hints at Kingstown is the place our character hits too and this is pretty much a book about getting there and what happens when the character gets there. It follows the same patterns the previous books slice of life some revelations but mostly just events throughout the journey. Now as I said before everything about this book is pretty good but it does have one fault that I consistently bring up while it is comfortable and endearing there are some events that are just not necessary to bring up here. Somethings tend to stretch out just a little too long. While it is slice of life I don’t need to know every life detail and as I’m full volume into the series now I find myself wanting to know more of the major details atlas of the minor details. Looking at how old the main character is now if you stretch this book out it could take years before we see him become a full grown adult so in some sense I think it’s a little bit too focused I think we need to have more time skips now and less event chasing each chapter.
I’ll give you an example in this book a wheel brakes on a wagon happens on a journey but a whole chapter and then some is spent on this wheel. I think it stretched out a little bit too long. We meet one of the side characters parents in this chapter 2 chapters are devoted to meeting these parents now some information is disclosed that is important but it didn’t take two chapters to introduce us to them. OK these are not major faults but they are issues that have to be addressed because I want to see this series continue and if it is to continue it can’t creep along at this pace it needs to be faster more detailed on the major events less detail on the minor events.
His love for Luna is aggravating. I'd tolerate it better, normally, but for a good chunk of the book he was in her company making his pov very boring for me. And Luna's presence also makes Judy's character unbearable because she turns into a jealous harpy, though in no way do I ship them together. This author does seem to have actual character development though, so maybe he'll grow out of it at some point. But that kind of false hope has caused me some serious frustration with past novels I've read. I can enjoy slice of life stories and slowburn romance (Betty Neels anyone?), but I do not like childhood crushes that turn into something more and young sweethearts stories at all. Until he's old enough to actually do something about it, he should be focusing on other things. Sorry for the rant, but I can't help what I like or in this case excessively dislike.
Oh and before I forget. Grub is love. Grub is life. Grub is the greatest most bestest boi.
Now that we're on book 4, the author has found a style that works for her.
We start off with Gil finding trouble and his father William and brother Cam stepping in to help out, while William helps out a friend with a request. After that it's the long awaited trip to the capital to meet the king, and a few other people along the way.
We spend the rest of the book in Kingsburg. Again, this is light slice of life set in a fantasy world. There are a few dangers, but everything works out. I had expected more on a plot that came up in book 4 to replace Count Drace, but I guess that will have to wait until book six.
Still, I had a great time. It's a quick read, and while the editing could be better, it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story.
I read hundreds of thousands of words each year, but I cannot express myself adequately. I love this series and hope for many more books. The fly in the ointment of this series so far, was the idea that Gil's transferred being was on top of the original person, and the original was trapped and dominated by the new soul. That idea made something in me squirm, and dimmed my enjoyment somewhat. Somehow this must be dealt with in some manner. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
This story is no longer about "life as a merchant" of the isekai-ed mid-life-businessman, that becomes Gil. It's the intrigue and complexities of life at Kingstown. Gil goes shopping with Luna, meets the "future mother and law", meets friends who are studying at the magic academy, the magician that saved him from the Noble that ran him over (when Gil was body-switched/isekai-ed to this other world). Complete side-tracked, not as good as the first two books. I find there is no point to this book 4 anymore. I do not recommend this book 4.
This is a wonderful slice of life/portal series. The writer grows in their craft with each novel, and entices you with dreams and hopes for the characters. The changes between pov is a bit abrupt at times, but they are very nessary and flush out the story well. My 2 only complaints are: I want each book to be twice as big and twice as fast! Thank you for this beautiful tale and I have so many hopes for where this story will go.
I've enjoyed the serious up til now. I like the idea of an Isekai with a character that's not physically OP and is smart. However, he's made choices that make no logical sense to how is portrayed. Why does Gil think that it is okay to leave his still and barrels out in the open so that anyone can mess with them? It's not just Gil's logic but other characters as well.
In a way, I'm glad I ran out of books in this series. There's really no substance to them but they are addictive... like cinnamon rolls.
It's amazing how little research and care the author put into these books, and yet still produces something so readable. I contrast this approach with other authors, like Michener, who spend years researching a subject before putting pen to paper only to produce something nearly as dry as a textbook.
Gil and friends are on their way to the capital to see the king. Obstacles arise that slow the progress of being ready to leavr. A competitor hires thugs to break Girl's still. Fortunately, he has friends that go above and beyond the call of duty to bring his business back on line. William also gets involved as the Dragon Slayer to track down the culprits. I like the humor, relationships, and intrigue. I look forward to another book.
Til learns more about his transport to the fantasy world an why .
Gil manages to succeed at making Williams Whiskey two varieties one apple an one regular . The king himself has ordered a chess set an a checkers set as a extra bonus set . It must be delivered to Kingstown personally by Gil himself as he's the actual inventor . The trip is a success as far as he's concerned . recommend reading excellent series .
When I first started reading this series, I wasn't sure what to expect. I am pleasantly surprised by how well the flow of actions make this an enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next ! Please keep it moving on. I sense quite a story in here about to come out and enchant us.
As great as always im so enjoying this series totally different and a refreshing change to the normal protagonist trope, yes hes from another world yes he invents things that we take for granted but the storys of all the other characters bring an extra to this slice of life.
The quality of this series is dropping, there are two many inconsistencies. I also don’t like how the interactions between everyone and the MC are going it seems a little trite that all the females are becoming attached to a disabled child romantically. This series needs a timeskip or something.
Excellent story, what hook me was the empathy for the character's lose and pain at the beginning of this series. Going from the broken man to the optimistic outlook of a child, captured an essence of human hope. Also, it was well thought out and interesting story line
This the 3rd time I’ve read the series and still enjoy every book. I’m sad that this author hasn’t continued the series, though I was surprised that I hadn’t written a review for this book. I hope all of you that have enjoyed reading the series will join with me in asking for the next book to be published. We waiting breathlessly.
I loved the book and the 3 before it. I liked the way a adult man handles being in a child's body. All the characters are interesting and I enjoyed their interaction. Can't way for the next book.
Reborn...into a slightly different world gives a man a way to do things differently...makes a splash for Royalty and Assassins. ! Great writer.. worth an afternoon reading time! 5.star.
I found myself skimming through certain parts since they were either irrelevant or not interesting. Its long to get to the good bits but its an interesting story.
I wanted to give this book 5 stars. Maybe because I don't like sudden endings. It just stops. But a good read overall. Would like to know where it's going. Hope the mc doesn't end up with all the female characters in love with him. That's a lame theme
A little short on content, but the story is still interesting after 4 volumes. The pacing is slow moving, and despite that I’m still looking forward to the next book. It’s characters read li
I really enjoy this series. It's very slow slice of life book. If you enjoyed the others this is as good. I'm hoping the next has more about magic and the academy's.
Kathy Rose Is very talented and has created a truly enjoyable series. The range of characters is rich, diverse and very enjoyable. I hope Rose will continue this work; it is not played out yet.
Decent enough SINGLE BOOK. This is not a series. The book endings are literally a cut off mid-plot, every single one. If there hadn't been 4 books already published I would've been exceedingly upset that I wasted my time, but as it stands the book is still unfinished so I am definitely frustrated.
Another great book in this series. I enjoyed the characters as they continue to grow and getting to see the wider world was great. Look forward to the next book.
Isekai'd into a 10 year old body but has feelings for an elf who might be a 20 to 200 years old. Previous books were OK as it was a mere infatuation, but this book just was nauseating.
