I was told off as a child for making up stories—little did I know that one day I’d earn my living by writing them!

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg—until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion—stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied—chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures—you can’t beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don’t take my word for it—come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world…so I think it’s over to you!

A marriage destroyed prematurely by false assumptions and lack of communication, gets a second chance in Sharon Kendrick's latest novel.

Basically, this book (while enjoyable) failed to meet the standards by which I measure all Sharon K novels. The first few chapters, leading up to the middle of the story, were great. There was a lot of sexy tension, as the conveniently reconciled MCs sorted out the angsty issues that had led to heroine's abrupt abandonment of the H, on her wedding night, before the marriage was even consummated.

This is heroine, Mia

It's what unfolded after the middle of the story (when they had sex for the first time) that pushed this novel into somewhat boring territory. Sharon Kendrick fell into the "cycle of sex" trap, where too much focus on repetitive banging detracted from the more important issues at hand.

This is the H, Theo:

I found it slightly ludicrous that the heroine, who'd come to the Greek island to spend time with her dying grandfather, barely spent any time with the old man. Instead, there was just a somewhat cartoonishly unrealistic reunion, where the hostile grandfather becomes immediately happy after he thinks the MCs are reconciled, followed by the MCs devoting most of their time to sex.

There's no authorial summary (to save time) of the heroine bonding with the old guy, before he died or her trying to make up for lost time by visiting him regularly. Family means a lot to me, so maybe that's why I couldn't understand why repetitive sex with the H, was more important than visiting the old guy regularly, while he's on his deathbed.

There were at least 3 sex scenes, where I remember reading about the H opening a new condom. That's how often they were having sex during the second half of the story. I'm not one who's easily sidetracked by repetitive sex scenes that don't actually contribute anything to the developing plot. In fact, that nonsense bores me.

When I got to the repetitive sex scenes, I literally had to force myself to keep reading...

Furthermore, the resolution of the MCs second separation (yes, there's another one 🙄) was hurried, tepid and written in a somewhat mechanical manner, as if (and I hate to say this, cause SK is one of my current top 5 HP authors) the author just wanted to get it over with and done, in order to meet the deadline.

Another big gripe I have, is SK's portrayal of the minor storyline that's linked to the dog Tycheros. As a dog person (and all dog people will agree) I can tell, immediately, when someone knows nothing about dogs.

I think SK has a lot of genuine compassion for dogs who need homes and assistance, because she's probably a good human being, but I don't think she's a dog owner or someone who spends lots of time with them. SK wrote about the dog in the most generic fashion.

In fact, other than being told that the dog had one eye and was brown and white in colour, there's nothing else that was provided, to enable the reader to visualise the cutie or see him as something more than just a convenient stock character, whose purpose is to be used as a pawn to highlight the heroine's interest in animal welfare activism.

I'd go so far as to say that if SK's a dog owner, then I'm a 900lb Polynesian lesbian, with a 13 inch penis, who never falls off my surf board while riding the Teahupoo pipeline!

But that's only minor stuff, that will understandably be glossed over by most readers. Maybe I'm judging SK too harshly, because I've been spoiled by Lynne Graham's superb ability to bring pet characters to life, in the most adorably vivid manner.

I can't conclude this review without harping about a few other things:

▪️ WTF is up with that horrendous dress the cover model's wearing? It literally looks like somebody broke into the late Barbara Cartland's boudoir, stole all the pink drapery valances that were on the walls and decided to make a flour sack ruffle dress for the model!

This seems to be the inspirational aesthetic for that dress:

▪️ I wish SK had made it seem like the H was totally crushed after being dumped by the heroine and that it hadn't been so easy for him to move on with his life. He was heartbroken and disappointed that she'd treated him so callously, but he seemed to be living his best life, building his empire and would have never sought her out again, if her grandfather hadn't been dying. I don't care that he wasn't celibate (after the vile things she told him before dumping him) but I didn't feel that he was utterly wrecked by it.

▪️ The epilogue was written perfunctorily, to put it bluntly,or, maybe I've just been spoiled too much by Lynne Graham and Caitlin Crews. But seriously, I know that SK has delivered some amazing epilogues so I'm not trying to throw shade at her. I just wish this one was up to that standard.

On a positive note, though, the MCs respective backstories were handled well by the author. SK provided adequate justification for why each was saddled with so much personal angst and insecurities.

This review is really late because I'd been idling on reddit last week, scrolling through all the posts that cover the cringeworthy whinge-a-ton, surrounding Prince Harry's new trainwrecky, ode to victimhood memoir moanoire.

This is not the forum for that bullshit, but I do have a little bone to pick with Prince William, for daring to use my dog's name when speaking to his younger brother. I do adore Big Willy (always have) but my Harold is unamused, to hear that his most noble and manly name has been tainted, by association, in this scurrilous fashion.

Other than the fact that they've both been neutered by the women in their lives, whiny Henpecked Hazbeen and Harold, my furrydorable sweetie, have nothing in common.

Anyway enough of my nasty, evil, judgemental bitchery, before I get on the nerves of the cultist fans who wallow in the putrid pool of pitiful Harkle sycophancy 🙃 ...

Finally, SK is one of my autobuy HP authors and this book isn't gonna change that. Plus, even Lynne Graham (my #1) gets the occasional 3 star review from me.

Safety: The H wasn't celibate during the first separation (5 or 6 years) but he was during the very short second one. The heroine was celibate for both separations. However, when they're together there's no cheating, no OW or OM.

A very romantic and sexy marriage of convenience story! Loved this couple. Their chemistry was sizzling. Epilogue was cute but could have been better. (Heroine tells hero she is pregnant). Good job Sharon Kendrick I just love your couples!

So, this new Kendrick’s rather super all round! It's about the super-hunky, super-arrogant self-made, Theo Aeton. Seven years earlier, he had gotten married to Mia but she flees on their wedding night, before their marital vows can be consumated!

Now she's a humble maidservant, working in London and Theo must find her to take her to see her (estranged) grandfather back in Greece, who is dying. She pretends to that she is still with Theo to ease the pain of her beloved Pappous but it is sheer torture being this close to Theo again. He broke her heart once and he could do it again, so Mia must stay away from him - but is she strong enough to fight her own desire?

From her super tiny staff accommodation in London to the super fabulous Grecian home of her estranged billionaire husband, Mia sets out on a journey she doesn't want to take...

Super-loved it! Super-excited for the next ...

I didn't like it. Not a fan of the 6 year seperation, that they were married and he wasn't celibate sleeping with so many other women.
I get that she left him and he had the right to sleep with other women, however I feel like at the very least he should have gotten a divorce first. He easily moved on with his life while she stayed emotionally stuck on him.

I didn't believe hero at the end when he said he loved her since he proposed, he never went after her or even checked on her wherabouts in all those years (he didn't even know what she did for a living til 5 or so chapters into the book). He easily started sleeping with other women and became the life of parties. P.

Featured in Harlequin Presents February 2023: Box Set 1 of 2. Innocent Maid for the Greek delivers on the title's promise with a cliché second-chance romance. As is so often the case, a single conversation could've solved their issues; however, I think it's for the best that Mia had some time to mature after her whirlwind marriage. I still didn't particularly care either for her or for Theo. He easily could've suggested (e.g.,) that they pretend to reconcile for her ailing grandfather's benefit, but instead, he sprung it on her mid-visit. For my part, I felt terrible for Mia because she (once again) learned that she had to satisfy arbitrary expectations for her behaviour in order to receive love and I wish she'd been able to have a conversation with her grandfather about it. Instead, there's extensive--even excessive--focus on sex. I think physical intimacy can move the narrative forward and I'm open to titillation for its own sake, but I quickly grow bored when it serves as a stand-in for emotional intimacy. Despite an intense heart-to-heart towards the end, I didn't particularly believe in Theo and Mia as a couple and I felt meh about the conclusion. That said, it's exactly what it says on the tin, so if you're in the mood for a paint-by-numbers novella, Innocent Maid for the Greek isn't a bad option.

Theo Aeton went from nothing to having money once he married Mia, only to have her run away after they had just married. She is a curvaceous girl and insecure in herself. Now her grandfather is ill and dying, so Theo searched for his bride to bring her home. He was surprised to find out she was still as innocent in the ways of love since their marriage.

She said some nasty, vile things to him before she dumped him a few years before the book starts. Can one really get over that sort of humiliation? She tried to justify her insults by blaming her mother.

The H wasn’t celibate after she dumped him and that’s okay for me. He should have found a better woman than this h.

Very good romantic story! Main characters were great and the plot was terrific! Part of it was sad for both characters but it does have a good ending which I did like.
