Hadley Phoenix has come a long way to find freedom. One thousand, eight hundred and twenty-nine miles, to be exact. With her abuser behind bars and the remnants of her shattered past in the rearview mirror, life seems pretty idyllic in picture-perfect Haven Shore, especially when the handsome sheriff becomes the main attraction.
Could it all be too good to be true? And how do you run when you don't know you're being hunted?
Jonah Sterling swore off love five years ago when his entire life imploded. Instead, he pours himself into his work, proudly wearing his sheriff's badge and keeping his town safe.
When a beautiful stranger drives into town with chaos hot on her trail, his life is turned upside down again as he struggles to walk the fine line between love and duty. Can he save the girl, save the day, and get his happy-ever-after?
The Lady Phoenix is about fighting when you have no strength to lift a fist. It's about keeping the faith when you feel all hope is gone. And it's about rising from the ashes when your life goes down in flames.
Intrigue, romance, twists and turns. I don't often read in this genre, but THE LADY PHOENIX made me wonder why I don't. This book has it all. I didn’t know who or how the baddie was involved until the end. Great read, indeed.
Juliette Willows’ debut novel, The Lady Phoenix, was such a great read. Twists and turns, drama and peril, love, life and death - this book had it all.
With an ex asshole in her past (or so she thought), Hadley moves to a small town named Haven Shore to seek out the life she’s always wanted - a peaceful one - to raise her son without the the worry of constantly having to look over her shoulder. From the moment you meet Hadley, you know she’s tough as nails and won’t let anything derail her from the life she wants and deserves.
Enter police Cheif Jonah - he’s immediately taken by her and falls under her alluring spell, as well as her son, Jaxon. He does everything in his power to keep her safe, even from the moment she steps foot in town, danger is hot on her heels - and it hits fast and furious. Never relenting. Hadley relies on Jonah and the wonderful people she’s met in town to help her through the toughest time in her life.
I was so caught up in the story that the the twist near the end nearly knocked me over. I didn’t see it coming. Willows does a great job keeping you on your toes and really ensuring the stage is set for the story to fully immerse you. Wonderfully detailed with rich charters, this book is sure to keep you turning the page to find out what happens next.
I truly enjoyed this read by Juliette Willows. I’m beyond exited to know that the stories of the folks in this town will continue with their own dedicated books. I’m especially looking forward to Luke and Jo’s story!
Willows has set tone to perfectly keep the story going and growing and I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out. Such a joy reading the story of Hadley and Jonah. Xx
It is rare for me to start reading a book and be hooked right away. It usually takes a good 5 chapters (at the least) before I really start to become invested in a story and begin empathizing with the characters, which by this point I usually end up reading religiously at the end out of curiosity or dire need to know the ending. That being said, this book had me hooked right from the START! I can't get over how instantly I was entranced and this insane curiosity took over me: Who is Hadley? Where are they? What is this past they are escaping from? What is going to happen here?! I just had to keep reading to find out! I was hooked before I even reached the 5th page, never mind the 5th chapter!
Willows 3rd party style narrative gives us all the view points at once, which I thoroughly enjoyed, finding the story so easy to follow. She includes some nail biting twists at every turn along the way. In enters these clever one-sentance cliff hangers at the end of each chapter - they had me squirming in my seat with slight torturing curiosity (in a good way!).
There is adventure, mystery, suspense, wholesome friendship, steamy romance, plus a touch of humor sprinkled in to keep from being too dark; this has everything I could need in a great novel.
Juliette Willows, thank you for taking me on this adventure through your imagination. I can't wait to read the next one.
If you like romantic thrillers this is the book you want!! I could not put this book down!! I love the storyline love the characters. I highly recommend it!!
As a lover of a good mystery, I must say 'The Lady Phoenix' ranks at the top of my list as being a well written, amazing, who-dun-it. Furthermore, the big name authors best look out as Juliette Willows will be burning up the best seller's charts before long. While reading this novel, I felt I scrutinized each character well and pegged the culprit. Much to my amazement, Ms. Willows threw in a curveball ending with an awesome twist, and I totally missed the mark. I read this book straight through in a little over a day. I have high praise for this novel and highly recommend it. Easy five stars.
'The Lady Phoenix' is a warm and comfy small town romance novel. It leaves a sweet and satisfying aftertaste (or whatever the reading equivalent for that word is). By the end, all the ends are neatly tied off, and every character is paired and happily in love.
Hadley Phoenix with her two year old kid, Jaxon, fresh out of a bad divorce, is on the lookout for a new place that she can call home. Her search ends in the town of Haven Shore, your average small town where everybody knows everybody. Unexpectedly, she finds herself falling in love with the town's sheriff, Jonah. She seems to be slowly recovering; but of course, if the ominous lines towards the initial chapters' ends were any indication, her happiness was not to last.
I loved how the author drew inspiration from the mythical Phoenix bird, who rises much stronger and even more beautiful from the ashes. Life keeps beating down Hadley, to make her strong and independent (and reveal her inner Phoenix).
The characters were so relatable. I felt each and every one of their feelings, Hadley's hopelessness and weariness as she finds herself clueless as to her tormentors are; her and Jonah's giddiness and excitement of a new blossoming love; and most importantly, the peace and calm at being surrounded by nature and all things natural and beautiful. (One doesn't need to define paradise when one sees it).
Hallmark movie in book form, but with a lot more danger
Romance is not my genre, mostly because it tends to be formulaic and predictable. And while this book lines up with most of those genre patterns, it breaks from it a bit with a genuinely scary villain whose identity remains a secret till the end. The story surprised me at the climax, and the danger escalated steadily throughout. I kept wondering what twisted thing would happen to the main couple next.
Some memorable parts: -"She watched in awe as the stars lit up like a million sparkling diamonds in the indigo velvet sky. A larger-than-life Van Gogh unfolding before her eyes, her very own magical Starry Night." -"Those little things (Brussels sprouts) are like evil cabbage fetuses..." -The almost-argument that the main couple engage in near the 65% point was awesome, and I love the way the man confesses his love to the protagonist. This was easily the best scene in the book.
The writing is clear and easy to follow with no backtracking needed. And the emotionality is solid: the atmosphere feels cozy in some places and freaky in others. I found myself liking the main couple right away. The police work depicted felt realistic, as did the legal stuff. I recommend this for all romance lovers who like intense action woven throughout.
Juliette Willows' novel The Lady Phoenix is the perfect blend of everything. so full of love, kindness, mystery, and thrill This was a real treat to read.
Small-town romances are my absolute favourite. They are full of nice and kind people who welcome strangers with open arms and genuine love. And who doesn't enjoy a happy ending? The ending of these books is almost always predictable, but that does not diminish the desire to read all the way to the end.
This book demonstrates that we can truly start over in life if we so desire. It only takes fighting and defeating your demons, not hiding from them. We all meet people like Richard and JustineThey do not have our best interest at heart, and we should learn to see that and do the necessary thing. Also, we meet people like Jonah and Jo....who loves uncondiotionally, we should never let them go.
My absolute favourite character was Jo. She was such a great friend to Hadley. Friendships are the most cherished possession for me, and I want something like the friendship they both had.
The author has done a splendid job in her debut. I would really love to read from her. This book has everything a book lover wants to read. It was such a soothing read for me... I will surely read this one again.
This is the first work I’ve read from the extremely talented Juliette Willows. I’m now a fan and will be anxiously waiting for more.
The Lady Phoenix is a powerful story of struggle and survival. The main character, Hadley Phoenix, is an ordinary woman with no magical or supernatural powers, only the power of love and the desire to make a better life for herself and her toddler child. In desperation, she flees from a terrible life, a violent marriage, and the hatred of those surrounding her. She ends up in a small seaport town that is so opposite from what she left she struggles to believe it is all real.
But an idyllic life in a beautiful new town was not yet hers. Pursued, threatened, and attacked by those she thought were in her past, she ponders her fate, as well as that of the new people now part of her life.
She must decide between flight and fight. But neither seem a viable option. This story is beautifully depicted and you will easily feel you are in each scene, from the description of the town and people to the feeling of love and fear.
I won’t give away the plot. This is a book you must enjoy for yourself.
The book starts with a mysterious aura. A girl arrives in a new place with no constrains of money to start a new life with no whereabouts. She is planning to start a new life but there is a car following her every where. The past never leaves you. She starts to build up new friendships in the new town where everyone seems to be enthutiastic all the time.
But will she be able to hold it up for long ? Is it so easy to build up a new life without concluding the things of past ? In spite of coming out of a disturbing past will she be able to move on? Will Jonah be able to overcome his guilt?
The story greets you with twist and turns and the characters trying to look out for each other. The end was predictable but the way author reached to the end is amazing. This story will give you friendship goals, romance goals, respect goals, understanding goals and sheriff looks goals ofcourse. Its dark but small moments keep it light.
The book never felt long and is fast paced. It will keep you hooked till end. Language being lucid and plot being entertaining it's good for all genre lovers and for beginners as well. A go to book for weekend getaway.
The core message I absorbed from this compilation as well as from my life experience is, when ever we face failure we react by impulsive flighting but our solution always resides in impulsive fighting. By Impulsive I mean to do it by choice, to accept the situation and then fighting with the barriers arising.
The protagonist first choose to shift, then fearfully she runs away but wherever she reach, she has to fight with more obstacles as an add on to her already existing problems. A love life quarrel, the fight to discover the answer for her query, to fight with her own fears and so her struggles keep increasing.
At last she choose to face and solve her core motive which exposes her to a new errand bringing out her new character which she never knew about.
The language is easy to understand and the twists in the plot are entertaining. The suspense created at spots is definitely impressive.
There are multiple side lines getting introduced during the entire story which themselves could become another story for the author. Awaiting another book from her.
Must say, Juliette has done an amazing work in this novel. It has everything in it, love, thrill, suspense, mystery, hatred, abuse, fear and what not. Each and every emotion has been summoned in this one book of 300+ pages. Usually it's tough for me to keep myself hooked till the end of any book, but this one kept me hooked till the end. I was not able to predict what's going to happen next. Usually when you read a book, it takes around 2-3 chapters for you to develop interest in the plot, which sometimes may become boring, but this was kept my interest from very starting. This book demonstrate that we can truly get over anything and start a new life. All you need to courage to fight demons inside you and near you. In this journey of fighting we may meet the characters like Richard and Justin who can never live close to our heart and we can also met some lovely people like..Jonah and Jo, who can be our truest friend. So this is life which keeps going on.
. A book with tropes like- single parent, small town, insta-attraction, cute romance, but also full of suspense, twist and turns.
. From the very beginning to the end author keeps the suspense intacts with little cute romantic scenes in between that you'll always be on the edge. While some of the twist you can guess but some will just surprise you.
. As for the characters both Hadley and Jonah is good, especially Hadley, she's been through hell and back in the book, but she still stands on her own, for which I have to applaud the author. And the other minor characters in the book are also good to follow.
. And an interesting fact, everytime I read about Jonah, he gives me the vibe of Knox from "Things We Never Got Over", I don't know why.
. So from the plot to the characters to the small town vibes to the suspense, it's a must read.
"The Lady Phoenix" is an amazingly perfect novel where each word holds the weightage of lots of emotions and unconditional feelings in it. Love, thrill, mysteries, suspense, entertainment, fear, action and drama will surround the readers and keep them gripped till the last page.
The characters get evolved with their incredibility and actions after each twist and turn. Readers will keep guessing but won't be able to predict the next step, specially climax of the story. With well maimtained sequence, the plot is filled with enormously powerful ride of adventure and sensation.
True to its name and true to the cover, the book is unpredictably dark, enthusiastic and exhausting at the same time. You won't regret reading. Its worth giving a try. Go for it and enjoy the adventurous ride.

The author maintains the suspense from the beginning to the conclusion, interspersed with short, sweet love sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat. . Hadley has been through hell and back in the book, but she still manages to stand on her own, which is something I have to commend the author for. Jonah is also a good character, but Hadley is especially good. and the other supporting figures

The atmosphere in this one is incredible, and I fell in love with Haven Shore within the first chapter. The characters are so lovable and by then end, I knew I was going to miss them.

Based on how many true crime podcasts I’ve listened to, episodes of Criminal Minds, and every serial killer documentary I’ve seen… this book still caught me completely by surprise. I anticipated the romance in this book, but the mystery was an added bonus and kept me hooked from start to finish - I was honestly annoyed when I had to put the book down because I needed to know what happened next.
I highly recommend this read and cannot wait for what comes next for Juliette Willows!
