Loren, Mercy, and Cara Ingalls had risked their lives to break out of The Center - a top-secret black site where they’d been surgically enhanced and rigorously trained into advanced criminal operatives.
Months later, Mercy finds herself with no other choice but to break back in.
Believing she’d been betrayed by the one man she’d trusted, Loren finds herself back within the walls of The Center - and Mercy is determined to set her free, even if that means having to untangle her sister’s secrets first.
Mercy’s not alone. On the trail of his own kidnapped daughter, security specialist Trevor Forrest is just as desperate to break into The Center as she is - and his skills and intel might be just what Mercy needs to stand a realistic chance of success.
But before the two of them can make that happen, Mercy will have to overcome challenges that can’t be conquered with her fists or training - challenges like trusting others, and rationalizing her feelings for Trevor Forrest - the type of man she’d sworn never to fall for.
Because why would she?
Mercy blames love - and Alec Wilder - for what happened to Loren. Why would she ever take the risk of falling in love with a man with the same shadowy past?
Beyond Wilder is the second nail-biting, fast-paced romantic suspense adventure in the Wilder Sisters series - described as “highly, highly recommended” for, and by, fans of strong female protagonists, edge-of-your-seat action, and witty, laugh-out-loud dialogue.
Beyond Wilder is the second book in Leigh Tudor’s Wilder series. You would definitely be lost if you tried to pick up in book two. Go back, read book one, and then pick this one up. The story is written in the 3rd person from multiple perspectives. Living Wilder was primarily from Loren and Alec’s perspective, but Beyond Wilder is mostly told from the perspective of Mercy and Trevor. There are spoilers for book one contained in the review below, so proceed with caution.
Beyond Wilder picks up on the cliffhanger in Living Wilder. Ava (Loren) is being carted back to the Center and her sister, Mara (Mercy) is trying to figure out 1) why Alec screwed her sister 2) how the heck she’s going to get her sister back from the Center. Meanwhile Alec’s partner, Trevor Forrest, who works with him has been looking for his own way into the Center to find his missing daughter.
Ughhhhhhh!! These books are just too freakin’ good! They’re killing me. The last book ended on a major cliffhanger I totally didn’t see coming until it was too late. This series broke all my rules (about reading books with cliffhangers, lol) and I’m SOOO glad I read it anyway!! You would never know this is only the second book by this new author. The writing is fantastic! It’s super smart and witty and the internal and external dialogue will have you in tears from laughing. It’s a tad be slower in the beginning of the book, but definitely not so much that it makes you lose interest. The thing that hooked me in this series SO fast was the storyline. Super original, slightly fantastical, and with tons of turns you never see coming.
The character development in this book is just phenomenal! Mercy is awesome! She’s super smart, but has that same lack of understanding societal norms her sister does, resulting in her saying super crazy things that will crack you up. Trevor is fascinated by her. He finds her “too" everything. Too loud. Too arrogant. Just too much for him to handle, but just too tempting for Alec to stay away. For his part, Alec is so sweet and so determined to do whatever he needs to for his daughter. His attraction to Mercy can’t be stopped and when a “fake relationship” between the two supports a means to an end, it becomes quickly evident that real feelings, rather than fake, are involved. I cannot wait for book 3 to come out!!
At the end of book #1, we read as Loren Wilder - the oldest sister was captured and tricked and headed back to the institute where they had escaped from. This time though, Loren aka Ava Halstead has a plan and hopes that if it works out that she will be holding all the cards. The one thing that Loren didn't count on of course was that she was leaving behind people who love her and want to help. Loren has been a lone wolf for so long and protecting those she loved, she doesn't open up easily to anyone. Mercy aka Mara Halstead isn't ready to lose her sister and let her sister be a sacrificial lamb as they only just got used to a new life. Now Mercy along with newcomers Alex Wilder and Trevor Forrest will head back to Bancroft Institute and rescue Loren. However, Trevor has his reasons as Bancroft institute has his daughter Hayley. During the book, Mercy will discover the three new children who are being raised to be the Halstead sisters' replacements and she isn't ready for them to go through what they did and so she is breaking them out one way or another. Eventually, this results in Mercy finding herself in the middle of a fake engagement with Trevor and playing mum to three children. What will happen though when Mercy gets too close and finds herself falling in love with Trevor? Will she open herself up or will this be another Halstead sister running away as they are better off being lone wolves and sacrificial lambs than living in the real world and facing life's problems head-on? I did get a bit frustrated with the sisters as they put on this big show of "I'm the boss" but deep down they are cowards and unable to let anyone in. It's like picking a freaking side and path and staying on it. Overall, though if you love kick-arse female stories, then the Wilder Sisters series is for you.
Beyond Wilder is the continuation of the first book. Appearances can be deceiving and everyone thinks that Alec has betrayed Loren. Trevor and Alex accompany her, only to find that she has ulterior motives. The day needs saving and the twist of the plot gets more interesting as the story unwinds. Harsh truths are revealed. This book is full of betrayal, murder, and mayhem. The story ends with another cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book.
Excellent weaving, complex and exciting. Manipulation, lie, it's hard to build romance in this context. The first part allowed you to learn about the characters of the 3 sisters, Alec, the members of the lab before they run away, their relationships, and the creation of new relationships, especially through the eyes of Alec and Loren. This part focuses on Trévor and Mercy. They have a cute side to faking their not-so-faked attraction. I really liked that at the start of this part, the reader is lost, not knowing who to believe, why, how many moves he has over what the other characters are thinking. This narrative is still great, unpredictable, just like the end of this part and I look forward to the last episode. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
After reading Beyond Wilder I think there's a new voice in romantic suspense that everyone needs to keep an eye out for. This book has so many things going for it that it should appeal to a variety of readers. If you like security/secret agent romance, this book has it. If you like romantic suspense, this book hits the mark. If you like edge of your seat action, check that one off. If you like a touch of rom/com in your read, check that box. If you like strong female characters and strong family bonds, you get that too. This book is well-paced and the characters well-developed and likable. This book continues the story of the Ingalls sisters and their brutal upbringing, which continues to haunt the three sisters. Loren has always been the protector and taken the brunt of everything to protect her sisters, including sacrificing herself to save them. Growing up in the Center after being orphaned, the girls were subjected to experimental procedures and violent training regimes at the hand of a greedy madman. They had escaped in the previous book and set up new lives in Wilder, Texas. A bit like fish out of water, the girls managed to burrow deep into the hearts of the townsfolk, especially Loren. It appears she caught the eye of her sexy next door neighbor, Alec. At the beginning of Beyond Wilder it seems all of their hard fought freedom is for naught. Loren finds herself headed back to the Center, leaving her sisters behind. Everyone believes Alec betrayed Loren, but all is not as it seems. What follows is a high voltage roller-coaster ride throwing Loren and Mercy back into the life they swore they left behind. Even with lives on the line and bullets flying, attraction flares between Trevor and Mercy, while walls are thrown up between Alec and Loren. So much happens in this book it is impossible to give away more without spoilers. Suffice it to say that this read does not disappoint. Dive into this series and enjoy. You'll be glad you did.
Continuing straight on from book one, Living Wilder, this story jumps straight into adrenaline plus drama. You definitely go through the paces with that old bag of emotions and then some. Each and every feeling you experience makes you feel more and more a part of the story.
There are definitely some serious elements in the story and these are explored well but laced throughout the story is the best sense of humor, especially from Mercy. Honestly, she has the most wicked humor and quick one-liners, just like Loren, her older sister.
Getting to know Loren, Mercy, and Madame G even better in this book is a delight but add in all of the other wonderful Wilder township characters and it’s like an old home week. I love the new characters in this book too, such a great variety of personalities and Nate is such a hoot! With lots of changes and lots of things happening, this fast-paced story is jammed full of so much there is never a dull moment.
Oh, boy Mercy! What a foot-in-mouth moment! And that ending! I can’t wait for the third book in this series, Loving Wilder, to be released. I am hopeful there will be answers to so many questions in this fantastic romantic suspense series.
The story picks up after the cliffhanger in Living Wilder, and we find Loren on her way back to the Center with Mercy hot on her trail. But things at the Center are not as they once were now that Jasper is in charge, and his reasons for wanting Loren back quickly become apparent. When the harrowing truth of Loren’s secretive past is finally revealed, how will Alec react, and what impact will that have on their future together?
This installment went in a completely different direction from what I was expecting after that cliffhanger ending in Living Wilder – and I wasn’t disappointed in the least. We learn more about Mercy’s years at the Center and how those experiences continue to impact her efforts to have a normal life, with normal relationships. I enjoyed Mercy’s reaction to first meeting Trevor – a brash, and unfiltered stream of consciousness, as she attempted to take control of her attraction. I loved their battle of wills and spirited banter along with their intense chemistry, and resulting slow-burning romance.
This is a well written tale with well defined, engaging and somewhat quirky characters. I love how Loren and Mercy continue to run circles around the men despite their own impressive combat abilities and take-charge Alpha attitudes. There’s plenty of drama, humour, and angst plus some action & adventure, in addition to some very steamy, explicit encounters. I’m looking forward to Loving Wilder, for the conclusion of this entertaining trilogy.
I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems, and am voluntarily leaving a review.

4+* ARC Review – Keeps Getting Wilder – cliffhanger I was introduced to this author and series through Hidden Gems ARC program. This book is the second book and starts just as the first one ended. This is when, Loren is being returned to the “Center” to keep her sisters safe and in Wilder. Alec, her boyfriend, and his colleague Trevor have been hired to transport her to the Center. Obviously, this causes problems with the relationship between Loren and Alec but additionally added concerns with her sisters. We soon learn that this mission is more than a job for Trevor and Mercy decides she must help her sister and tries to work with Alec and Trevor. The story then focuses on the relationship between Trevor and Mercy as they handle the fallout from the rescue trip. Plus, the author included more flashbacks of the girls’ lives at the Center and how it built a strong sisterly bond between them. There is plenty of action and adventure to keep the pages turning and anxious for the next book.
Book 2 of this series picks up right after the cliffhanger from Living Wilder. Mercy/Mara heard her older sister Loren/Ava give the one word code to stand down, but she’s not going to let her older sister go back to the Center without trying to come to her rescue.
Mercy catches up to her sister’s boyfriend,Alec, who appeared to betray her sister at the end of book 1 and his secret agent partner Trevor. This book shed more light on the unbelievably atrocious years the sisters endured while living at the Center. Each sister carries her own emotional scars and tries to protect the other.
The story has unexpected twists and plenty of suspense and drama. The relationship between Trevor and Mercy is a little whacky but endearing with some unexpected spice moments.
This book ends on a cliffhanger and left me very eager for the last book in the series. I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and the author, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Wilder series is definitely one that I'll be revisiting over & over again as I can't get enough, and it's only a trilogy. Beyond Wilder is the second book in the series which follows Mercy Ingalls. And since the underlying suspense filled plot is a continuance, YOU MUST READ Living Wilder (Book 1) FIRST! Mercy isn't about to listen to her sister Loren (Book 1), who has been taken to The Center again. The fast paced story kept me on the edge of my seat with all the moving parts as I found myself trying to figure out what was around the corner, but alas, I did not so this review will be vague because of the shock value. The twists are coming in hot, the action is heart racing, and humor like you wouldn't believe is going on despite all the serious & dangerous situations. I certainly CANNOT WAIT for the final book and I believe you'll feel the same way after hitting your one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Her sister did something ill advised, so now our heroine is out to fix it. If she can. And she just might need some help. If she can trust our heroine. Oh boy, this is going to take some effort.
This is book two of the series. This one picks up where the previous one ended, so I recommend reading them in order.
This is a romantic suspense story, one of my favorite genres. I love the combination of action, adventure and romance that is blended into the story and this one fits that to a tee. The story is well written and easy to read, but that does not make it simple. There is a lot going on here and it is going to take quite an effort to unravel it. Fortunately, our characters are tough and smart and they are going to need every bit of skill they have. Overall, this was a great addition to the series and I definitely look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems for review purposes.
The plot is disjointed and jumps all over. It lacks a lot of the fun and charm of the first book. Loren consistently makes the worst possible decisions for herself and others. I have no patience with her martyrdom.
There are so many characters and relationships that get no attention. Like, how is Trevor dealing with the three kids? What is Ally’s reaction to what she witnessed? Is she okay with Alec just disappearing for weeks afterwards? And when he return home, she’s still not living at home with him? Why not? If her possible trauma from the incident at the end of book 1 is enough to drive Loren away, why is it ok for her only family to just disappear, and why do we never see or hear from her at all? So many gaping plot holes. I had a hard time finishing it, and now I’m questioning whether finding out what happens is enough motivation to read the third.
This book also desperately needs proofing and editing.
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and continues straight on from the cliffhanger in #1. Loren is on her way back to the centre, with Mercy is hot pursuit. Trevor is an operative for Clandestine Security Organization, and he is determined to infiltrate the centre to rescue his daughter. This story gives more of an insight into Mercy’s experience at the centre, and the impact on how it is affecting her life now. I loved how Loren and Mercy run circles around the men in their lives. This is a well written fast paced, slow burn tale, which is intense, and with chemistry, action, adventure, drama, suspense, danger, humor, and is an endearing and steamy read. I was intrigued and hooked throughout this addictive and entertaining page turner, and I look forward to reading the final novel in this riveting trilogy. I highly recommend this talented authors’ work.
I had all kinds of thoughts in my head about this book until I reached the end. But then the sneaky little twist that closes out this story went and blew every thought I had to smithereens. This book picks up right where the previous one left off and goes racing headlong into danger, immediately. With a snarky, irreverent sense of humor that resonates with mine, this book kept me laughing all while I couldn’t turn pages fast enough to devour the story in an effort to find out what would happen next. Anything else I could say would give away the best parts of the plot, which, PS, is all of it. I’ve set myself a reminder to look for book three when it’s due out because I’m absolutely rabid to learn the rest of the story. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
It’s seldom that you find a book in a series that surpasses the first book, but when it does occur you have to celebrate the find. “ Beyond Wilder” was funny, suspenseful, romantic and dark. It had everything. The author should get a standing ovation and a kiss on each cheek—- facial cheeks that is.
The characters were strong, heartbreakingly essential and relatable. The plot was wonderful and had the right amount of angst that made it flow with suspense. I can’t say enough about it. If you are looking for your next summer, fall and winter read, this series is for you. I left off spring because I’m being reasonable and gave the author time enough to write her next series. Hope it’s time enough to top the Wilder books. I love them!!! I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
Mercy usually tries to listen when her older sister gives her an order, but this time she won't listen, she will return to the place she swore was behind her forever. Trevor Forrest, an operative for a security company has been trying to gain access to The Center in an effort to rescue his daughter with absolutely no luck. Mercy agrees to team up with Trevor and his associate to rescue Loren from her seemingly self imposed captivity. Wonderfully well written, and absolutely fascinating characters, I love them. Action, suspense, dark humor, and unexpected twists in the plot make it impossible to put this book down. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.
This story continues with Ava/Loren being taken to the facility and Mara/Mercy going after her.
Beyond Wilder begins straight back in the thick of things. Continuing straight on from Living Wilder. So recommend reading books in order as you don’t want to miss a thing with these characters.
Mercy isn’t giving up on Loren, and will do everything in her power to get her sister back. Even if means returning to the one place she never thought she would have to return..
This book had lots of twists and turns. I loved the humour throughout the drama, danger, action and suspense. I found myself chuckling at the antics of these characters. I’m now left dying to read book 3. It’s a fab series!
It was beyond frustrating to watch Loren go through all the waiting and red governmental tape to be exonerated from the fiasco that occurred at the Center and the crimes she and her sister were forced to commit. It was so much fun to watch Mercy and Trevor wade through the mess of their romantic relationship! I love that couple and the love they both have for the children.
Just when you think there’s enough plot twists in the first book that can’t shock you anymore in the second book. Boy was I very wrong, there were some parts that had me gasping. I’m normally not the type to read books with cliffhangers but I could not put these books down! Looking forward to the next and last book of this series!
Book 2 kept my interest from start to finish - where as book 1 took me a bit to get into. These characters are super frustrating but that's what makes it a good read in my opinion. I love the addition of the kids from the Center. Excited for book 3
This book was almost too over the top. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. It almost felt forced in places. Some of the drama seemed unnecessary and I got annoyed with Mercy. Another quick, easy read but not quite as good.
This series keeps getting wilder. In turns hilarious with all the pop culture/TV/movie references, and heartbreaking with the revealed history of the sisters’ lives. It is over the top for sure. Bit, honestly a very fun read.
Very good second in the Wilder Sisters trilogy. Mercy the middle sister is the focus of this story. Feisty but vulnerable she works hard to try to save her sister and find a normal life for them.
Another great book in this series. I love the humor and snark in these books. The author must have an amazing sense of humor and a slightly twisted mind. lol
