Fredrickson's book was the baseline for an elder course at UVA taught by a "super ager," a 90+ y/o "retired" scientist -- researcher and teacher - at the country's three most reputable colleges. Harvard is one and the others don't come to mind at this moment.
Understanding human behavior has been a lifelong passion of mine and here I discovered many ways to upgrade my behavior more than what I've presently been doing. Waking up and growing our positivity opens the doorway in so many ways. Positivity can broaden our minds, build our best futures, and help us bounce back from life's challenges. these are three of the early chapters.
"Positivity" is a book for us all that builds on our present wisdom. I took the course last year and just re-read it again in the face of a country and world that is lost in fear. This book can help.
Positivity: Discover the Upward Spiral That Will Change Your Life by Barbara L. Fredrickson explains her research into how positivity affects people's lives. I took a Coursera course taught by Fredrickson several years ago, but I didn't read Positivity until recently. Positivity illustrates her findings and conclusions in an easy to understand way that left me wondering what the research has shown since Fredrickson wrote Positivity. It's always important to understand that science is always evolving. Fredrickson's underlying principles of positivity's effect on one's life seem to be sound and, frankly, just make a lot of sense. I enjoyed reading Positivity even during the moments when I felt skeptical and found myself at my keyboard looking up things to see what the science has revealed since it was published. Fredrickson's work and presentation inspired me to look for the positive in my life.
