Jamison was just doing his job. Protecting the woman his friend loved. But unintended consequences are everywhere. It doesn’t matter how careful you are, eventually they will find you. And what finds him is a woman with dark hair and haunted eyes. A woman who has no idea where she’s from or who she is. It’s information Alaskan Security needs. And there’s only one way to get it. **** Waking up in the hospital didn’t seem right. Nothing did. Except for the way her husband looked at her as she fought to recover from the fall that stole all her memories. She can’t remember a single moment with Jamison, but that doesn’t stop the attachment she feels to him. Having him at her side keeps the fear clawing up her insides at bay. Because she knows he will keep her safe. But the fear isn’t for her. It’s for someone else. If only she could remember who.
DNF 40% This is so slow moving and uninteresting, I’ve been forcing myself to continue and it’s just not worth it. Book nine in a series about a private security company set in Alaska, and still no one in this series has ever really left the building. Why set this in Alaska in the first place? Alaska is an awesome setting for a suspense book. I hope this author can go there one day, or even read some other books with an Alaskan setting, so we can actually have something of Alaska in this freaking series! Also this was very boring. I have looked back on my other reviews of this series and I seem to have found every single book boring or underwhelming. I think it’s time to stop reading these. Don’t recommend. I have several other romantic suspense books I’ve read set in Alaska that I’d recommend over this unexciting one.
If you like a good romantic suspense series filled with sassy and strong heroines, you are right where you need to be. Defensive Alliance is the newest release in the Alaskan Security Series and it is GOOD. First off, I really like the way Jemma Westbrook writes, if you haven’t read any of this series this is a great one to binge and I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series. I know some of you are reckless and don’t read in order *gasp*, but I am not that kind of girl and I like to know the other personas who enter the book a bit. If you have loved the other books, you will love these, because a lot of the other characters make a reappearance. And that is what we love about series - am I right? So the story of Jamison and Sadie starts with her waking up in a hospital with no recollection of the past years. Jamison, a fierce protector, takes it to him to protect Sadie, or is he protecting his friends and himself? Sadie is not one to fool easily and the way she handles the situation is funny and admirable at the same time. It is almost impossible not to love her, with all her grumpyness and sass. The downside is, she is addicted to cake and pie and this book will leave you very very hungry.
So for the story, I really liked that the suspense part - the external threat was new and there is no big plot which stretches over multiple books. We had that in these series, so a nice solved mystery in one book with closure is very nice for the change. I also really liked the energy between Jamison and Sadie, the steam is just flying off the pages and Jamison is Good Girling throughout the entire book. Should you read it? Absolutely!
This series gets better and better with every book. The author has a way of strategically pacing out various plots through each book that has me desperate for the next one.
I couldn’t wait to find out more about the woman at the scene of Naomi’s kidnapping in the previous book. Unfortunately, she wakes up in the hospital with no memory of the last two years of her life. Jamison is the man from Alaskan Security assigned to find out what she knows, but the only way to stay with her in the hospital is as her husband.
Sadie Smith wakes up in the hospital with no recollection of being married to the devastatingly handsome man by her side. She feels an instant connection to him, but something feels off.
Jamison and Sadie test the boundaries of their fake marriage to try to learn the information the other one is hiding. The dynamic between these two is fantastic. Sadie is sassy and strong. She challenges Jamison at every turn while trusting him with everything. Jamison’s need for control manifests in some deliciously dirty ways. Their connection had me deep in my feels.
I love the found family of Alaskan Security and Sadie fits right in. The women of Intel rally around her immediately and the whole team has her back when she needs them the most.
There is so much more to this story that I can’t talk about without spoiling it. I hope I have properly conveyed how much I loved this book with what I could say.
I can’t wait for the rest of Team Rogue and I really hope we get Team Shadow at some point. I NEED Zeke’s book!
Jamison is content with his life, but the moment Sadie opens her eyes and looks at him with trust he knows his life hasn't just been lonely... it's been lacking. They are both generally loners, happy in their own company, but they just fit together, their broken pieces easing around the others and filling in the gaps. He breathes easier when he sees her, touches her and she understands him in a way nobody else does. They are both grumpy, sarcastic and snarky...but it is like foreplay for them....the snarkier she is, the more turned on he is. And we all like a dominant, demanding Jamison. Sadie is a completely unknown element to Alaskan Security, but they rally and pull together, testing her, but ultimately welcoming her too...in their own very unique way! I really like this series packed with imperfect characters that are perfect for each other. A great read on Kindle Unlimited.
I’ve been waiting not so patiently for this next book in the Alaskan Security series. Once again, Jemma Westbrook expanded the Alaskan Security world in an unexpected way. This book seamlessly continues the ongoing saga as it starts with Sadie’s point of view.
Sadie and Jamison are thrown together in a marriage neither one was expecting. Both need to use lies to discover the truth. The back and forth play between them in their quest to get information and stay one step ahead of each other was fun to read. It was like a sexy chess game! A game played in and out of bed!
Little details early on made it easy to cheer them on as a couple. It was so good to sense how they belonged together as we read about them discovering and learning about each other. How can you not love a couple that slowly builds a relationship on the fine line between lies and truth? They are both tough, independent people molded into who they are by life’s circumstances. I love how Jamison and Sadie develop into one of the strongest couples in this series.
Wow! This book is fantastic! Jamison has a different job ahead of him. He’s waiting for his “wife” to wake up so he can determine why she was trying to kidnap Naomi, who was she with and if they pose a danger to Alaskan Security. Sadie wakes up to a handsome husband she doesn’t remember and no clue what has happened for the last two years of her life. She is whisked to Alaskan Security and knows she’s not really married to Jamison but the two play the game keeping her secret and hope her memory returns. I loved the special relationship these two have. They’re perfect for each other with lots of sarcasm, joking and steam. Sadie pushes Jamison’s need for control and challenges him in every way but one…sort of lol (you’ll have to read to find out but she’s a total brat). I really enjoyed this book and hearing from the Alaskan Security family.
It is increasingly difficult to stop reading this series. Each story just pulls me further into their world, and believe me, I go willingly!
While this couple has their beginning based in lies, unfortunately it was for good reason. Sadie was an unknown risk, and Jamison was tasked to find out more about her. I appreciated how this storyline swirled around the protection of the Alaskan Security families, and how they included Sadie in this. The search for Savanah was a team effort and I enjoyed how this resolved. This couple has addictive chemistry and steamy scenes that enhanced their HEA.
Sophie tells herself it doesn’t matter if she’s missing memories. She wouldn’t have that many girlfriends but that actually feels good, the pink is a definite no! Handsome Jamison Clarke as a husband is big plus though he’s not a fan of the team plan. Jamison fears they’ve made critical errors Sophie’s too smart to miss. But if he tells, Sophie will be thrown in a cell until she gives the team what they want and he can’t let that happen!
The team wants Sophie to fill in the blanks about the night of Naomi’s near kidnapping. Jamison ‘sees’ Sophie remember something and his flurry of questions makes Sophie confess she doesn’t really remember but is aware Savannah, her twin was abducted, though she can’t say who, why or when. The women get busy as more memories come to Sophie.
To my taste, the plodding pace, mostly sex filled chapters and unclear plot (for half the read) ensured it would be a like but not love outing. Connection came but for this reader it came too late to care. Rating: 3.5stars
I don’t think I have the correct words to express how much I loved this story. Truly. Sadie and Jameson were such a great match… both intense and confident and strong, but they each had an unfulfilled need. They were like two puzzle pieces, fitting perfectly together. The author was able to weave a story that was not only intense and interesting, but also absolutely captivating.
I have been impatiently waiting for Jamison and Sadie's book, and it was well worth the wait.
Sadie wakes up in the hospital not recognizing a soul, but drawn to the man who is said to be her husband. A concussion has stolen her last two years, and Sadie is trying to put the pieces together and figure out why she's in Alaska and who she can trust.
In an attempt to figure out why Naomi was almost kidnapped, Jamison has to pretend to be the kidnappers husband to try and figure out if they are all in danger. It doesn't take long for Jamison to realize he is over his head with his "wife." Sadie is smart even if she doesn't remember the past few years and is quickly realizing she's been lied to.
Can the two learn to trust each other so that they can figure out who is the actual danger or will it be too late for someone they love?
Jamison and Sadie.. what a couple thrown together in unusual circumstances that has Jamison questioning his actions and ability to do his job. He so conflicted with his part of this subterfuge!
Sadie is questioning everything and everyone around her….she has lost her memory and has woken up with a husband by her side. But deep down she knows it is all a lie…and as things become clearer she continues to plays the game… until the attraction between them is blown out of the water.
Both have dark, traumatic pasts that causes them to be who they are. They realise they are each others other half! Each with strength , go hard or go home attitude and courage to deal with what life throws at them. They are each others sounding board, confidant and they push each other to the brink as “husband “ and “wife”.. I love how they weren’t afraid to admit their fears and that they worked better together than apart…to function they needed each other.
The secondary characters are wonderful and Pierce is just a bossy ,alpha-rish and nosy as always!! They are surrounded by a team of individuals who would do anything for them. The girl hand is just the best…But the friendship Sadie forms with Zeke is so heartfelt , special and heartwarming…I want to know more about him!
Love the angst, adventure, humour and action that it immersed throughout the story… To understand this story it really is best if you read the others in the series as it will more sense and increase your understanding of this wonderful book.
Janice the way you describe the details, the emotions, the action, the environment and then interweave characters, and the backstory is incredible. Loved this so much Thank you ♥️
Smexy, Intense, Suspenseful, and so Worth Waiting For
Jemma Westbrook has given readers another fantastic addition to the Alaskan Security family and series with Defensive Alliance. I love this take on an amnesia love story, and the way it allows the characters to move through their uncertainties to develop a really incredible relationship. Jamison and Sadie are two characters perfectly made for each other. Their raw and honest emotions, coupled with fantastic humor (including snark and sarcasm galore), paint a picture of two characters with hidden depths to their personalities, beautifully brought out by each other.
Jamison is serious book boyfriend material- a sexy dirty talker with a hidden heart of gold and strengths that reach far beyond his physical attributes. And Sadie is a fierce badass who knows how to play the game, but also leaves room to become invested in the relationship she knows she deserves and wants. I love when a character thinks they know what they want, but then they meet someone who turns that expectation on its head and shows them just how great they are together.
The suspense in Alliance is on point. Intense from page one, the mystery surrounding Sadie’s circumstances, and the impact it has on the entire Alaskan Security team, builds consistently throughout the book, culminating in an edge-of-your-seat conclusion readers will truly love.
Westbrook's Team Intel girlgang returns with their signature brand of acceptance, enthusiasm, intelligence, and camaraderie. And the men of Team Rogue show up in a big way for the newest member of their found family.
Alaskan Security continues to be one of my favorite series. I cannot wait to see what Westbrook has in store for us next!
DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Defensive Alliance had everything I love about the Alaskan Security series: action, romance, mystery, suspense and plenty of steam! I also like series where there’s an overarching plotline, and the story continues. (Not to be confused with cliffhangers! I don’t like when the MC’s lives are left in limbo at the end of a book.)
Anyway, this story has an overarching plotline that began with Dangerous Proximity (#8) and picks up in this story with Sadie suffering from amnesia and Jamison claiming to be her husband.
I really enjoyed watching Sadie and Jamison’s relationship develop throughout this book, and their ‘fake’ relationship start to become more real. I loved the cat and mouse game they played in the beginning when they were trying to figure out if they could trust each other. I loved their closeness, and how playful they were. I also really loved that Team Intel played a major role in this story.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Janice/Jemma has in store for this series! I just love being in Alaska with the men and women of Alaskan Security!
Thank you Janice and Julie for the advanced copy!
If you have yet to read this series, there are two “entry points” into this series. The first one is Loss Recovery (#1) and the second “entry point” is Advance By Bounds (#6). I’d recommend you read the series from the beginning, but if you don’t want to go back that far, you can definitely start at #6 and not feel lost.
I have loved this series since book one. It’s definitely one that builds on itself while still having closure for each new couple. This book picks up right where the last book ended, after Naomi’s attempted kidnapping. It took a few chapters for me to remember the events of the last book, and I definitely would have benefited from a prologue that served as a reminder, but once this story got going, I couldn’t put it down.
Sadie, who was the would-be kidnapper, was knocked out when Jamison took both women down and lost her memories of the last two years. In order to ensure access to Sadie, Jamison poses as her husband and is forced to continue the charade when she wakes up in hopes of getting answers to who the kidnappers were and who Sadie worked for.
I loved the banter between Sadie and Jamison, and even though she knew Jamison was lying to her, she never wavered in her blind trust of Jamison. I loved the game they played, trying to get each other to own up to the lies, and I loved the honesty they shared when they finally let those lies slip away. Sadie was such a mystery and the truths that come out about her were shocking and unexpected. She is definitely not what she seemed.
Sadie and Jamison may have started their marriage on a lie, but they were perfect for each other. Their relationship had a depth to it that shouldn’t have been possible in such a short time and with so many lies between them. Neither were looking for or thought they deserved a marriage, but fate had other plans and it worked out perfectly for them both.
Jemma Westbrook has done it again with her 9th installment of the Alaskan Security series. This is a fantastic book. I read it in less that two days! It picks up right where Dangerous Proximity left off (don’t worry, if you didn’t read that, while helpful, it isn’t necessary) where in saving Tyson’s girlfriend, Naomi, from being kidnapped by Sadie, Jamison accidentally injured Sadie. This book starts out with Sadie in the hospital just waking up with her “husband” by her side, aka Jamison, and no memories of the last two years. Jamison isn’t thrilled about lying to Sadie but they need all of the information they can get from her as to why she was trying to kidnap Naomi. So, of course, they bring Sadie back to headquarters for her to live with Jamison until they figure out what is going on. The book follows Sadie and Jamison and the rest of the gang as she tries to recall the last two years and why someone is holding her sister, Savannah, hostage. The chemistry between Sadie and Jamison is off the charts. You will love them from the very beginning because they both know that Jamison is lying about being her husband but neither of them want the ruse to stop. The are both sarcastic, steamy and fun. You want Sadie and Jamison together throughout the book and your heart melts for Jamison’s story. You don’t want to miss out on this book!

This was one of those books I wished didn't have to end. After each page I kept hoping that wasn't the last, but alas, every good thing comes to an end. I loved that it didn't take Sadie the whole book to figure out what the team at Alaskan Security was up to with regards to her and her memory loss. That, for me was a refreshing change in how writers always play the long game and, in this book, it wasn't the case. Sadie, even having memory loss was someone who knew herself down to her core, knowing even at times if it was hesitantly and made her want to question herself. She knew what she liked and disliked but played along to get to the bottom of things. Sadie fit in so well with the rest of the ladies and her interaction with Zeke made me wish there is a book in Zeke's future, and I cannot wait to read it Don't get me started on Jamison. He didn't want to deceive her and did everything possible to help her regain her memories and to protect her. He found his soulmate and he wasn't going to give that up. He was true to himself in every way. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!!
A “two can play at this game” steamy romance with a “dominant gone submissive” woman for a sexy, addictive, panty melting protector! 🥵
Spice Meter: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yeah—I couldn’t stop turning the pages on this one. Prepare to burn through this book like a bat out of Hell!
Sadie is an unassuming girl—SIKE! Under the thin mask she wears is an obvious bad bitch. We meet her as “a lioness with a thorn in her paw” but you quickly grow to adore the feisty spirit that lives within her. The name of the game is spy vs spy and Sadie is expected to play along as if she doesn’t know a thing. But she’s no fool.
And of course: neither is Jamison.
In a matter of days, Sadie and Jamison go from: strangers —> to husband and wife 🤪 Back to strangers —> and then to INTENSE lovers 🤪 All while solving the tangled web of mystery surrounding Sadie’s life leading up to her crash encounter with Alaskan Security.
This is not a stand-alone book. You’ll be able to enjoy the content of the story but I highly recommend taking a deep dive into the world of Alaskan Security from book one to get the full understanding of these lovable characters and their motives. Enjoy!!
Defensive Alliance is the latest Alaskan Security book by Jemma Westbrook. Once I started Jamison and Sadie’s story, I couldn’t stop – made for a tough day at work the next day. This one highlights confirmed bachelor Jamison Shaw and the woman he’s “forced” to marry, Sadie Smith. When Jamison took Sadie down to save Naomi, he didn’t expect Pierce to suggest he “marry” her to try and figure out what she knows when her memory returns. But, the chemistry between Jamison and Shaw is hiding just under the surface like Sadie’s memories – which are coming back enough to know when she’s being played. Sadie’s lived a hard live of hiding from those who want to kill her and her sister but she understands on a deep-down level that she can trust Jamison, plus, he’s FUN to fluster. When they both start falling for each other, they know they need to come clean. This allows Sadie to shine and show Alaskan Security, she’s more than what she seems. I loved the way Jemma ties this series together and can’t wait for the next edition.
This is a super great book and I can see me reading this again in the future. This started off interesting right from the beginning. I am usually not a fan of stories where the MC has amnesia. It usually comes with confusion and frustration and a lot of internal dialogue of what they are going through. This book is not like that at all. Although Sadie lost her memories going 2 yrs back, she is smart enough to know pretty quickly in the book that all is not as it seems and Jamison may not be her husband as he claims. Sadie is such a strong, intelligent and witty woman that I enjoyed her internal dialogue as she tries to figure what’s going on. Jamison is a straightforward guy who tells bluntly tells the truth. Their personality fits each other and they have the best banter. I loved watching them fall for each other and enjoyed all the time they spent together. The mystery of what got Sadie to try to kidnap Naomi and what happened to Sadie’s sister was intriguing and had me guessing. I highly recommend this book.
This story is a mixture of romance and suspense. Jamieson and Sadie are forced into a situation where they literally learn about each other minute by minute. He’s waiting for his ‘wife’ to wake up so that he and the team can understand why she was trying to kidnap Naomi or not! If she wasn’t why not, who was Sadie with and if they’re a danger to the Alaskan Security team. When Sadie wakes up 2 years of her life are missing! As they process all the information and try to work out if they can trust each other plus ignore the growing attraction between them. The security team gathers as much info as possible and after much toing and froing the picture slowly comes together, can everyone work together and trust each other? A brilliant fast paced read, with excellent and well thought out characters. I do highly recommend you read these books in order to get the full benefits of all the characters and their backgrounds. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jameison works for Alaskan Security on Team Rogue. Sadie is an unknown suspect with a temporary memory loss.
Sadie was hurt and hospitalized and lost her memory of the last two years, And Jameison plays the part of her “husband” to try gathering info.
Sadie wakes up an aware something is off, but somehow she gravitates toward Jameison as a safe haven ( but he has to stay on his toes):because she is smart, sexy, snarky and does not back down from a challenge.
Can she get her memory back and can they have a Happily Ever After? You will have to read the book.
This book has suspense, intrigue, romance, emotions and drama, wonderful characters are well developed.
All the books in this series is great but Defensive Alliance is one of my favorites! When a mysterious stranger suffering from recent memory loss appears to potentially pose a threat to the entire Alaskan Security operation, a safety strategy must be put in place. The solution the group comes up with. . . Have notoriously emotionally unavailable, loner of the group Jamison pretend to be her husband until they figure out what she is up to. Against all his best defenses, Jamison is captivated by the pretty, sharp, problematic Sadie. Both characters have a difficult past. It makes their journey to the unconditional love they find that much sweeter. In a world that is tumultuous, they become each others safe place. Highly recommend this one!
This is the first book I've read in this series. I saw it in the author's newsletter and thought I'd dive in at the end instead of starting at the beginning. This book is amazing, so now I have to go back to Book 1!
What a creative storyline. The forced proximity, memory loss, fake marriage combo is very well-executed. Sadie and Jamison are fantastic together. The whole family around them in their workplace is exactly what they need. The vibe reminds me just a little of Susan Stoker's Silverstone Towing series. I love how talented authors can take a similar concept and execute it in unique and creative ways to craft engaging stories and worlds.
Anyway - gotta run. I've already got Book 1 on my Kindle!
A perfect mix of romance and suspense. Two people who are forced into a situation without the full story. They finally figure out the missing pieces and learn to trust each other while also falling in love along the way. I loved the humor mixed throughout the book and watching the story unfold from both perspectives was super sweet. He had just enough protectiveness to keep his Alpha status while also allowing her to be in charge of herself. It was also great to see the other couples from the rest of the series! Definitely catch up before you read this one! It could be read as a stand-alone but it would be more enjoyable to have the other backstories! Can’t wait to see who is next!
This is a series that you can’t not read. From the very 1st book to this current book each book has its own personality, it’s not just the same plot - each is different in its own way. Very creative writing 🥰. Defensive Alliance - I couldn’t put it down, the excitement to get to the next page was off the chart, Sadie and Jamison are great together. This book is filled with suspense and excitement. So you NEED to start with Collateral Damage and read straight through to Defensive Alliance, you won’t be sorry. I don’t want to give away anything in the book because you need to read them. Beautiful job Jemma Westbrook.
Alaskan Security knew they needed to keep Sadie close, but they completely underestimated her! Sadie is a smart, quick witted, calculating BAW (bad A warrior). Jamison quickly realized the woman they were keeping under lock and key was much smarter than she let everyone know. It was her strength and tenacity that kept pulling Jamison closer while his bluntness and understanding pulled her in. These two were made for each other! But not it the, she made him softer way, but in the way that iron sharpens iron and brings out the best in each other.
The Alaskan Security series is my favorite series of JW's and this was another great add! This book was more of a stand-alone than some of her others, so if you're looking to get into the AS World, this would be a good place to start if you don't want to go from the beginning! I like that it was a different take on the "amnesia" trope—she may have lost her memories, but that doesn't mean she wasn't smart enough to figure out what was actually going on! I love a strong female lead with a strong (but softy for her) guy! Great (and also ~steamy~ in parts) story!
Sign me up for one of those emotional support fake husbands
Jemma Westbrook\Janice Whiteaker continues to showcase her ability to provide us with strong and complex female characters who keep our heroes on their toes. I loved how Sadie's and Jameson's personalities played off of each other. The Husband\Wife banter was clever, even once the cat was out of the bag. While I've enjoyed the story for each couple in this series it was great how in this case it was the aspects of their personalities that others typically found repellent which drew them together.
I enjoyed Jamison and Sadie’s story. Jamison ends up married to Sadie after she is injured. When she wakes up she can’t remember everything. Jamison values being truthful and honest, so he has a hard time lying to Sadie as part of his job, even if he doesn’t know if she is the enemy or not. Sadie knows he is lying but does what she needs to do in order to figure things out. They are both strong and great at what they do and end up being a great team, in more ways than one. This book is full of romance, suspense and the snarky banter we are used to from the Alaskan Security family.
I've missed Alaska. It's not something I would have imagined myself saying, mind you, but I truly did miss Alaskan Security and all the girl gang and hunky heroes that populate that place. As it usually happens, I find myself falling in love with the H/h of each new story, intrigued by their uniquely fascinating journeys of self-discovery and love. Jamison, dark and brooding, and Sadie, snarky fun bit#$ that she is, are a terrific match, and I thoroughly enjoyed every detail of their story. JW does it up right every time!
