When these two fiery royals collide, they’ll learn that there’s more to each other than meets the eye. But can they come together as one before dark forces threaten to tear them apart?
Old language mixed up with modern language, main male character was more of a beta who couldn’t think with his own head but needed to be told things by his friend. Heroine the most blandest character I have read in a long time. Not a good read.

Rape is not romance. Rape is not romance. Rape is not romance!!! I don't know why I need to say this. And YES, it was rape. A black woman was kidnapped, whipped, enslaved, raped and impregnated for and by a white man and was called romance. Who TF thought this was ok?!!!!!! When would it have EVER been ok???? Black woman or no. He also manages to use his power and influence to rape another woman in this story. YES the "whore" was raped, no matter if she was "passed around". Could she say no? Did she want to be a whore? He didn't even have respect for her when he was finished using her. YET we are constantly told by other characters that he's not like that. Although he CLEARLY had no problem with those under his command being EXACTLY like that. Somehow, despite this rapist being the OBVIOUS bad guy, we're also supposed to believe that the true villain is another woman. This is a common tactic in these types of books. They always shove a random female character that never gets fleshed out because women just hate other women. On top of the horrendous plotline and subject matter, this book still manages to be consistent in how horribly these types of books are written. I mean, could there even be a saving grace? I had a lot more to say including things like magical negro tropes, virginity /fictional FGM tropes, mammy trope, good girl trope etc etc etc but overall I'm just disgusted.
This book had potential but had so many spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors that it took away from the story. It was honestly very hard to finish. King Zane was detestable, hateful and cruel and the way he treated Anais was unforgivable. He went from dragging this woman through the castle by her hair to having her whipped and tortured in a dungeon. He humiliated and degraded this woman throughout the first two-thirds of the book so it did not make ANY sense how she was supposed to be such a good person that she could not only forgive his behavior but fall in love with him! Seriously?!? Perhaps Anais had a case of Stockholm Syndrome or perhaps she was just that naive and gullible but I have no interest in reading part 2.
This was such a silly childi sh story. The H was a polite doormat and the King was a loser. The writing was ok, but the story chose one dimensional characters. I felt nothing from either character.
Great story. It is well written with an admirable heroine. Anais was strong, intelligent, and likable. The hero was a different story. Zane was arrogant, vengeful, and easily manipulated. I took an immediate dislike to him. And even though he took steps to redeem himself I found myself hoping she doesn’t forgive him. Still a great read.
Characters: 1. Princess Anais of Jharyn, heroine and healer, becomes captive and later wife and mother. 2. King Roland is Anais' father and ruler of Jharyn. 3. Prince Izaak is Anais' brother who becomes ruler and rebuilder of the Kingdom of Jharyn. 4. King Zane of Araynaa, hero, concurred Jharyn took Anais and fell in love with her. 5. General Wesley heads Zane 's military and is his best friend. 6. Marisol is Anais's handmaiden and best friend. 7. Eba is a seer, healer and Anais's maternal grandmother.
I didn't care for this story at all. All of the characters are one dimensional and there is not an ounce of romantic chemistry between the two main characters . Most of the story deals with King Zane's fixation on revenge and on forging alliances to secure his Kingdom; the rest of the story deals with Princess Anais's insecurities and grievances about her mistreated. Grandma Eba gives Zane and Anais reason to trust, be a couple and have many children. She reminds them that their fates are intertwined and have been since their first childhood meeting when she and Anais treated his injury and saved his life.
This was a great dark romance. I may not read the next installment if it's a reverse harem type because thats not my thing. Alot of reviews stated that Zane was evil up until the very end and I'd beg to differ. While he wasn't the sweetest ,hurt people hurt people. He wasn't just evil for no reason and he only wronged those who deserved it and who he "thought" deserved it. I will say even though he was mean he was not mean through out and he struggled with his feelings for her CONSISTENTLY(he pretty much apologizedafter every occurrence), so the reviews that were saying how he just came out at the end about his feelings was very untrue. I'm glad it worked out in the end.
Umm nope. Could care less for the hero. Absolutely no chemistry between. The FMC and MMC , the side characters has better story. I would rather the FMC get with anyone but this MMC. A lot her telling and not showing in the book which made this love story so uncomfortable. I also felt that the language used for that time period was very off. To many modern languages being used.
I do feel that authors is very good at writing just feel line this story just didn’t land well for me. Yet I am totally interested in reading about Marisol and Westly and Reg story. I’m interested to see whom she will choose.
The only reason that I didn’t give this book 5 stars was due to the editing. Other than that, it was a great book. I personally didn’t want Zane Ana Anais to get together due to the fact of how he treated her. He was definitely a horrible person. I spent 90% of the book disliking his character and then all of the sudden he’s change. Nope, not falling for it, he should not have been able to win her heart. Just saying. Now Anais, on the other hand, was an absolute sweetheart. She was kind, sweet, intelligent and caring. Overall, it was a good book.
When you’re so focused on revenge you can’t see any good in anything. Zane was willing to set a fire to his future. The love of his life, his best friends and his kingdom were casualties of the war and hatred he had after losing his family. It takes a drastic event to happen to make him realize he wasn’t the only one hurt and not in this battle of kingdoms and his fight for forgiveness.
All her life Anais has had to learn to overcome and survive many hardships thanks to the events that took place before her birth. It’s seems Zane is not out to help make it any easier for her either. I really appreciated Anais’s ability to keep going despite what life seems to keep throwing at her. Plus her natural ability to not let affect her overall personality. I really enjoyed the side characters in this story as well, from Marisol, Izaak, Wesley and Raleigh, let’s not forget to mention Old Eba. I’m really looking forward to book two with Marisol’s journey, I’m hoping she ends up with both Wesley and Raleigh she deserves double the happiness. Join Anais and Zane on their very rocky journey.
Wow! What a GREAT book! Zane and Aniasis kept me on my toes throughout this whole book. I also can’t wait to read what Marisol decision will be either. Maybe it will be a reverse romance because I favor both Wesley and Raleigh? Lastly, I would have rated this book 5 stars, but typos towards the end of the book dimmed this book’s fire for me.
I got so sick of trying to figure out what was being said in this book. This story was riddled with grammatical errors. I almost put it down, but it was too good. I am afraid to read the next one, because you don't have a credible editor. If you feel like rewriting a book, read this one. It is pretty good.
It was not good at all. There was no logic or reasoning in any of the characters motivations. No flow from one action to the other. Phrases like "I'm calling the shots" don't really fit in historical fantasy fiction. I don't know what this was but glad it was free and I can return it.
I enjoyed this book more than I disliked it so that's why it gets a 4point rating. The Hero was particularly irritating. You would think that the so called hero would be wise and intelligent instead he is a brute who can't think for himself. The lack of communication at some point was just so...you know what, the point is I liked it. Despite everything and that's what counts.
The FMC- Anais was so annoying! I hated her, I think SHE didn't deserve the MMC or her brother or anyone And...The MMC is a beta - I agree with one of the reviewers; he's bullied and shamed by everyone. He was brutally abused as a child but noooooo how dare he lash out! I think he was even slapped by one other Male character, Inspite of being a King! WTH.
Shae Evans has become one of my favorite authors. She writes heated love stories with OTT heroes. This story is a departure…a medieval love story with an IR couple. Great story with some minor typos. Marisol has a story next….might it be a ménage!?
Zane's misplaced hate made things difficult in his relationship with Anais, but true love won out in the end, and everyone who deserved a beat down, got one! This was a good book, and I am looking forward to Marisol's book!
This is a must read story! I loved Anna she is beautiful, intelligent and so caring! I loved that she wanted to help everyone even when she needed help! I love Zane’s determination but his hate almost drove away his true love! This really should be a movie.
A well written book, with characters that you can't help but become invested in. Even the time period it's set in gave breath to the story. Be prepared to enjoy the beautiful tapestry that is Anais and Zane.
This was the first story I fell in love with on Wattpad. I couldn't wait for it to be finished. It was amazing from start to finish! I look forward to reading the next installment.
I went into this book with an open mind after reading Want (which, in my opinion, was a horrible book). What stood out most for me in Fire was Princess Anais. My heart melted for her circumstances, and like so many Black women, she persevered through unimaginable hardship. From the way she and her grandmother were treated, to how she was looked down upon in the palace, Anais endured it all with strength and grace. There isn’t much I can say other than that I loved how well she was written. That said, I wish certain aspects of her story were handled differently. For example, I wanted to see Anais give Zane more of a fight toward the end. I also wished for more escape attempts but knowing her altruistic nature, I understood why she stayed. Anais consistently put her people first, always asking about their well-being, and that made her resilience even more admirable. There’s been a lot of debate in reviews about whether Anais was “raped.” Personally, I didn’t interpret it that way especially in the context of her negotiating for both her people’s freedom and her own. If readers want to see what real violation looks like, they should pick up Want (again, horrible book). Zane, on the other hand, left me conflicted. I understood the trauma he had endured, but that does not excuse his behavior. To me, he represents many men in this world afraid to express vulnerability, hiding behind anger or dominance out of fear of rejection. I wanted to see more contrition, more compassion from him, and I didn’t feel he truly deserved Anais by the end. He needed more of a reality check.Prince Izaak intrigued me most among the supporting characters. We only got a glimpse of what kind of king he might become, and if Shae Evans writes another book, I’d much rather it focus on him. Marisol didn’t interest me, Wesley I loved, but honestly, I would have rather seen Wesley with Anais than Zane.My decision to give Fire a four-star rating is based entirely on my love for Anais. I’ve reread this book several times just because of her strength, her stance, and her heart. I only hope the next installment doesn’t stray from the solid writing foundation that Fire had.
Shae Evans is clearly a talented author, but after Want, she’s still on my “bad list.”
Zane was villainous, no doubt about it. But considering the horrors of what he witnessed his kid sister and mother go through, and considering the SAME horrors (rape) he himself went through as a child, it's completely reasonable to see why he is the way he is. That being said, not sure why he thought it a good idea to marry the daughter of the guy who raped him, his mother, and his sister. I disliked how he coerced Anais, also. He coerced the daughter of the man who sexually assaulted him as a child, she got pregnant, and they named the fruit of their fucked up "union" Henry. The end. Didn't find anything cute about them, or Henry the infant for that matter. The end.
I really like this author, and this story was overall okay. Who I did not like was Zane. He was not a good leader, he could not keep a cool head, and was an overall obtuse mAn.
