Fueled by dark chocolate and even darker coffee, USA Today bestselling author Jane Henry writes what she loves to read – character-driven, unputdownable romance featuring dominant alpha males and the powerful heroines who bring them to their knees. She’s believed in the power of love and romance since Belle won over the beast, and finally decided to write love stories of her own.
I THOUGHT MARRIAGE WAS ONLY BUSINESS AND LOVE WAS FOR FOOLS
The seventh story in this series, Deviant Doms, had this reader engrossed in the tale and kept the pages turning as the story unfolded. It is a mixture of family, loyalty, secrets, lies, betrayal, mystery, suspense, life and death, danger, and an action romance.
The story will focus on the youngest of the Rossi children, Marialena. Once again, she will do her best to ditch her guard, and this time, it will get her into a different kind of trouble. She will help a young woman escape, but now she is the target. There is an order among mob bosses, and Romeo must comply, or it becomes war. Marialena will find herself in an arranged marriage with Salvatore Capo.
“A home isn’t where I live, home is where the people I love live. Home is where my heart is. I don’t care if he lives in the most magnificent mansion anyone has ever seen, it won’t be home, and we both know it.”
Marialena will only have an hour to pack and be ready to leave with Salvatore. From the time they get on his private plane and have issues, she shows him she has a spine.
Salvatore: You don’t seem bothered by any of this. You don’t seem ruffled at all. Marialena: You didn’t choose an average woman, Salvatore. I’m a Rossi. You’ll have to try a lot harder to shock me. Salvatore: I’ll keep that in mind.
I liked Salvatore and Marialena together. They have chemistry and work well together. I think he is rather surprised at her calmness during tense moments. She may have played games with her bodyguard, but when it comes to herself, she is steady. Salvatore needs a marriage, but he isn’t looking for love. Sometimes, it finds you when you aren’t looking.
Marialena: Some people say life is a hardship. I say life is an adventure. Salvatore: Why’s that? What’s the difference? Marialena: Because you don’t know what’s coming around every turn. But if you view things as an adventure, it’s more exciting and less—well, terrifying. Salvatore: And if you think of life as a hardship, you’d think it terrifying? Marialena: Oh, definitely. I bet if you think about it, you know people that feel that way, too. Salvatore: Are there things in your life you found terrifying? Marialena: Of course. Most people find my brothers terrifying, and while I wouldn’t go that far, I’ve definitely seen them do terrifying things. And my father—he was absolutely awful. Salvatore: Did he hit you? Marialena: Of course. He had a vicious backhand and wasn’t afraid to use it. Salvatore: So your father was terrifying. Understandable.
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil in people. Not everyone that you call family is trustworthy—or has your best interest at heart. Is there trouble in the works that could cause a war between families? Will the truth be unearthed before it is too late?
“They betray you, Salvatore. And they’re worse than your most mortal enemies because they earn your trust before they stab you in the back.”

This book was special to me because it's mostly set in my home town, Tampa, Florida. I just wish it had more about Tampa locations; a dinner out at one of our iconic restaurants like the Columbia or Burns Steakhouse. Maybe a mafia meeting at the Tropicana in Ybor City (a small township in Tampa, known for it's mafia history). That being said, a little more research on Tampa geography was needed. Tampa is not on the Gulf of Mexico. The only waterfront is Tampa Bay. You have to go to cities/towns on the other side of Tampa bay (St. Petersburg, Sunset, Madeira,Treasure Island, indian Rocks, Belleair) to have gulf beach front. All these area, including Tampa are known as the Tampa Bay area. Still...loved seeing my home town in a book.
In spite of the above....I loved this story. I have loved Marialena (MFC) since the first book in this series. She's fiesty, challenges authority (her brothers), stands up for what's right and likes going her own way. Salvatore (MMC) is a new character to this series. A boss in the Tampa mafia, he's been recently released from an 8 yr stint in jail. He's in the new Engand area to catch his arranged, run-away bride.
When young girl, aparently running from someone, appears in the shop she's visiting and asks for help, Marialena puts the pieces together and helps he girl escape. When the chaser (MMC) appears she lies saying she saw the girl come in but she didn't see where she went. She has no idea who he is and although she found him attractive, sensed a connection, she also realized he was a dangerous man.
Her brothers confirm it and she worries that even her brothers seem afraid of him. They anticipate the worst and feel the only way to save her is a marriage...something she'd hoped to avoid. But before they can even argue about it, Salvatore shows up at their home demanding restitution. By mafia law he is within rights to kill her, but instead he demands she take the place of the bride she helped escape and he wisks her away to Tampa.
But all is not as it seems in Salvatore's family and Salvatore himself is maybe more than he appears to be. Then there's that attraction between them. And Marialena, being Marialena, is going to make the best of it and make her husband fall in love with her...that is if he's even capable of love.
I loved the banter between the two. I loved how she challenges him and how he softens for her. This was one of my favorites in this series and sadly, the last as all the Rossi's are now married. But fear not, we have the spinoff Montavio series to look foward to (relatives of the Rossi's and the same dominant, alpha males). 5 stars for this one.
No one writes Mafia like Jane. This book is part of the Deviant Dom series and is #7. Books just keep getting better and better. Every one of these books that I finish keeps me waiting in anticipation for the next book.
Salvatore and Marialena- 2 souls, one light and one dark, both looking for their other. He is dark and dangerous; she is light and impetuous, brought together by one unexpected event. This book has plot twists, an upset manipulative mother, and family drama off the charts. Jane Henry has once again brought forth a book, a series that all should read! Sad to see the Rossi family go but definitely will be revisiting them on the regular!!
Squeee … 'Oath of Submission' is the seventh book in Jane Henry's "Deviant Doms" series and if you know anything about Jane Henry or this series then you should know by now that this is one you don't want to miss. It's the youngest sibling's turn. Marialena, the wild child. The romantic. The one with the pie-in-the-sky outlook on things. When she escapes from her bodyguard only to find a woman hiding and pleading for help, Marialena does the only thing her conscience will allow her to do. She helps her without a second thought. Unfortunately, the consequences of her actions result in her being married to the Don of the Tampa, Fl organization. When Salvatore Capo demanded Marialena's hand in marriage Romeo, her brother and head of the family, paled. He knew that Salvatore had just been released from a life sentence in prison for killing his fiancé but he had no choice but to agree. It was either that or Marialena could lose her life and then an all-out war would take place. This was an intense, emotionally packed storyline that had a surprising twist that took it completely over the edge. What an outstanding book. Well done, Ms. Henry!!
Donna L 5.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase RAW AND POWERFUL ENDIND TO A GREAT SERIES Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2022 As with the previous books in this series, the author is well-versed in the mafia lifestyle. This was a tantalizing tease with raw, vulnerable characters who burst with realism. This book starts in the same fashion as the other books, with a female member of the Rossi family being forced into marriage. This is Marialena and Salvatore’s story, filled with danger, betrayal, revenge, violence, and steamy erotic sex scenes. The connection between these two was potent, raw, and intense. They made a perfect couple in an imperfect world.
I admired Marialena for her determination, sarcasm, and humor, which were on another level, along with her quick retorts. Despite her situation, she remained a hopeless romantic who believed in happy ever afters. Marialena got a kick out of ditching her bodyguards, but she went too far and found herself forced into a loveless marriage. Marialena remained upbeat and optimistic, determined to make the best of her situation.
Salvatore was dark, powerful, and menacing. A complex man working through his demons. His past had left him emotionally scarred and damaged. It became apparent that Salvatore was more affected by Marialena than he let on. She changed him by chipping away at his hard shell. I thought he was going to be a one-dimensional character, but he surprised me. Yes, he was violent at times, but he was also tender and protective.
I was exhilarated by this book but sad that the series has finished. It's time to go back to the beginning and start again.
Jane Henry’s Oath of Submission gives us Marialena and Salvatore’s story and it’s fab. Ever since we first meet them earlier in the series, I’d been curious to see how her story would go and I loved it. Marialena is just such a doll. As the youngest of the Rossis, she was often treated like a princess, and I loved how stern Salvatore fell for her. And since this is part of a series, we get to see all the Rossis in all their glory and it would be wrong NOT to point out the Rossi boys LOVE of food, because that’s a big a draw for me. Also, that even as flighty as Marialena seems, she’d definitely a Rossi and there were moments in the story, where I just wanted to cheer (her wedding!). Okay, I might have actually cheered. Everything about this story was great for me—how different they were, how well they meshed (that’s the smexy bits), the secondary characters—all of it. Most definitely recommended.
Last Rossi is settled. It starts off trying to be dark but it doesn’t stay that way for long. It’s one of the better books of the series. You don’t hate the H and learn to like him again.
Marialena's story had been a long time coming. Known for finding trouble anywhere. Salvatore came from out of left field though. Was not expecting this delicious piece of Alpha male at all. Love their story and their HEA.
Ok in this book we have the H demanding that her family give the h to him in marriage. He just intends to keep its matter of business, but he doesn't keep it strictly business at all. Then to the surprise of the H , he finds that it is not just business at all. Lots of smut and some danger and action and then we get a great HEA
I love a strong sassy heroine and an equally strong hero. Marilena and Salvatore were awesome in this story. There are secrets, lies, betrayal, action, drama and angst....just what I like in Mafia stories. I devoured this book in one evening. The characters held my interest even when I was sort of mad at them. LOL And that little twist towards the end was something I never saw coming. Fantastic story!

“They betray you, Salvatore. And they’re worse than your most mortal enemies because they earn your trust before they stab you in the back.”
The Castle had been her sanctuary but not even these walls or her brothers could protect her from Salvatore Capo Salvatore had just got out of prison and after eight years was expecting to marry so that he could take over his position, his uncle was going to step down and in stead he finds himself at the Castle having to deal with a foolish girl that interfered and allowed his intended to escape. Marialena Rossi had been in Namesti when the girl had begged for her help and even though she had misgivings she had hidden her not knowing that the man enquiring was in fact Salvatore Capo. When her brother had heard of the situation, he had known that his sister was in a great deal of trouble, within twenty-four hours she was married to the man that had stirred fear in her brother. Growing up in her family her mother had brought her up to be strong and never to show fear and Salvatore and she seemed to be making progress however it was obvious his mother and cousins hated both her and Salvatore, an attempt had already been made on his life with poison, now he had taken to cooking for himself and had become extremely skilled in the kitchen. Then as her own family have come to vist her and Salvatore and many other guests have come to celebrate their marriage it suddenly becomes apparent that Salvatore is acting too many questions about the quarry and her now dead brute of a father and this starts alarm bells ringing.
Now she has suddenly received more information about the girl she had helped escape, it seems that Salvatore’s family are far more devious that even she knew and now her very life may be in danger and she has got to get away otherwise she may disappear with the help of his mother and cousins that have an eye on his throne. I do not want to spoil the story for others reading however, I guarantee that once you begin reading you will not be able to put the book down until you have finished the book and discovered the final outcome.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
I always knew that Marialena's story would be a good one but wow, Jane Henry has hit the back of the net with this one. Marialena Rossi had led a sheltered life since the death of her brutal father, adored and protected my her older brothers, Romeo, Dom of the powerful Rossi mafia family, Ottavio, Orlando, Mario and her sister Rosa.............but the mafia have their own laws, their own type of honour, their own strict code of conduct, their own rules, rules that needed to be adhered to if mafia wars were to be averted. Marialena always knew that the time would come when her brothers would choose a husband for her, mafia daughters were used to form alliances, love didn't come into it, her siblings had been lucky, they were all deeply in love with their partners, if only Marialena could be so lucky. Feisty, unpredictable but loving Marialena had sealed her own fate with a chance meeting with Salvatore Capo and a little deceit, little did she know that the little deceit was to change her life forever. Brooding, morose Salvatore was the black hearted Dom of the mighty Capo mafia family, he knew what he had to do, he had scores that had to be settled to honour his father, he knew that honour and mafia code would stop Romeo Rossi from denying him, Marialena would be his until ......... This is a powerful mafia story, a story of mafia conflicts, of palpable chemistry, of deep love, of conspiracy and jealousy, a real page turner. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
Marialena may be a mafia princess, but she makes a huge mistake by thwarting Salvatore Capo. Even her family does not have enough power to save her. Capo has the right to demand her death. Instead he forces a marriage. No one is pleased.
The interaction between Salvatore and Marialena begins with the joining of two strong Mafia families. Because of being forced to leave her loving family, Marialena is filled with sadness, worry, hatred and the possibility of dealing with Salvatore’s stern expectations. Salvatore decides he will completely rule and he will firmly train her when necessary. It is also full of Marialena’s love of life, optimism and her sense of adventure. She tries not to disobey, but bratting is totally acceptable to her. I love her sly humor that actually makes me smile, and I love her eager curiosity and the joy she revels in while encountering new experiences. Their wedding night is beautifully unexpected and full of erotic, carnal and deliciously dirty pleasure and desire.
I found this story exceptionally enticing, exciting and enthralling. Every time I read one of Jane Henry’s books, I swear it is my favorite. Therefore (until the next one), this one is truly my favorite. I could not stop myself from being drawn into the difficult and complex lives endured by mafia children. Marialena and Salvatore are two characters who easily touched my heart.
Oath of Submission is book seven and the finale of the Deviant Doms series by Jane Henry. This book is a perfect ending to a fantastic series.
Because of her accidental interference in his wedding plans, youngest Rossi daughter Marialena is forced into a marriage with monster Salvatore Capo. She’s been warned that he’s a violent and dangerous man, but she’s committed to being the perfect mafia bride. Salvatore actually treats Marialena quite well. He’s caring, generous, and even loving. Things seem to be working out quite well for the two until each receives information indicating they’ve been betrayed by the other. Will this start a war? Are there enemies working against them? If this isn’t dealt with correctly, their relationship will pay the price!
Wow! I really love this book. I love that Salvatore is broken from a bad childhood but lets Marialena’s eternal optimism break down his defenses. Marialena has been a bit pampered and spoiled her whole life, but when strength is demanded of her, she grows a steel spine to make her family proud. If I have quibbles, it’s that the ending was a bit rushed. I’d like to know why the betrayal happened - the motivation. I love the Rossi family, they each got their happily ever after, and I’ll miss this series.
This book can be read as a stand-alone, but you’ll enjoy it so much more if you read the series from the beginning. Let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss!
Oath of Submission Deviant Doms 7 By: Jane Henry Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
Ah, Mariaelena! It's about time she comes into her own. A feisty one she is, from the very start and now her choices have caught up with. Messing with the plans of Salvatore Capo is resulting in the total opposite of her choices. She quickly learns she has no choice though, and while not happy with the circumstance, she cannot deny their chemistry. But he gets a lot more than he bargained for. Yes, he wants her submission, but will she be willing to give it? This sassy woman brought so much to this cold mafioso, and when he thought he would never be attached, she won his heart. This is the perfect ending to the Rossi family series, though I am not sure I was ready for it to be over. They have become like family to me! If you haven't read/listened to these, grab them all and do them in order. While they stand alone, they are best read as they build on each other. Another fantastic romantic suspense series by one of my favorite authors.
And how to make it even better? Finish the series with Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross. These two are the Rossi family and it could not have been better. With accents and building suspense, these two use their real life chemistry to bring the best out in a romance read. Loved every minute of their narration.
The last in the Deviant Doms series is everything we want in this Italian Mafia world...the bloodshed, violence, betrayals and passions are difficult to put down. I read this in one sitting!
Marialena (the baby of the Rossi family) has seen all of her siblings find their spouse in difficult and sometimes bloody conflicts. While she has been able to avoid being married off to build an alliance, she knows her time is running out. But she thought she had more time! Always bold and impetuous, she makes a decision that makes Salvatore Capo take notice of her.
Why is that a problem? Well... Salvatore is a dangerous man, one that makes the usually stoic and controlled Romeo Rossi very cautious and concerned, as well he should be. When tensions cannot be lessened, Salvatore demands Marialena as his bride to correct the situation.
As we all know from the previous stories in the series, these two characters have a lot to discover about each other. Marialena cannot escape the inate dominant tendencies Salvatore owns. The steamy chemistry between them had the pages turning by themselves.
I really appreciate the creativity and skills of this author. I gladly drop into this world whenever possible, and spend time with these well written characters. I strongly recommend reading this series in the correct reading order to get the most from the storyline.
This series has been very entertaining and engaging, (as are all of her series) and I look forward to reading the next one. I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book and voluntarily leave my review.
We finally get Marialena's story! She gets herself into deep doo-doo when she tries to help a scared girl escape a man who is following her. It turns out that Salvatore Copo is not a man you want to mess with. Even Romeo and the rest of her brothers are horrified when they hear the story. When Salvatore shows up and demands that Marialena marry him - since she cheated him out of his intended bride - she is not surprised to find herself on a plane to Florida within the hour. Oops. It seems Salvatore is required to marry before he can take his rightful place as head of the family, er, business. It is a little late in happening since he just spent eight years in prison for murdering his last fiancée. She really shouldn't have tried to poison him. Marialena will make the perfect mob wife since she was raised a Rossi and knows how things work. Well, she will as soon as he gets her properly trained to obey him. Good luck with that, Salvatore, Marialena is no pushover.
Of course there is the usual dominant-submissive stuff. There is also a conspiracy that will change everything for Salvatore and Marialena. Loved the ending. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
I’ve absolutely adored each book in the Deviant Doms series. But this one was my favorite. I loved everything about this book. Salvatore and Marialena are a dynamic duo. They are electrifying and freaking hot together! I loved their back and forth. I loved their flirting and I loved their energy. Salvatore is a no nonsense man. He’s ruthless and without mercy. He’s been burned and deceived numerous times. So he doesn’t trust anyone and is always on guard. Marialena is the baby and darling of the Rossi family. I loved this fearless lady so much. She’s brave and courageous, she loves wholeheartedly and unconditionally. These two on their own are not to be messed with. But together they are a force of nature and not to be reckoned with. Oh sweet mercy they way Salvatore is with her is sweet and possessive and sexy and dirty. In other words the perfect alpha book boyfriend. The way Marialena has is back and looks out for him is a testament to how she was raised. Ms. Henry had me hooked and invested in this couple from the first one to the very last. The story is suspenseful, filled with deceit, lies, secrets and a whole lot of sexy. And that extra epilogue was absolutely perfect and the icing on the cake ❤️
This book deserves way more than just 5 stars! It was phenomenal and what a way to end the Rossi family series. I hate to have come to the last book, but damn all I can say is Jane saved the BEST book and BEST couple for last! Everything comes full circle and we’re taken back to events that happened in book 1. I honestly forgot all about it, and then while I was reading this and pieces started coming together I was like oh my god, no way! I was kinda wondering how Salvatore would play into everything and I was surprised! I absolutely loved Salvatore and Marialena. These two were really good together and Jane wrote their characters wonderfully. He swore he’d only marry her as a transaction and she’d never mean anything more to him. And I loved how spirited Marialena was. Her mouth and sass was funnier than anything and I was giggling a lot at what she said. She pushed Salvatore’s buttons and really brought so much happiness to his life. This book is a definite must read, but definitely read the series in order. The only thing I missed was Nonna and the Rossi brothers fighting over their food!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "OATH OF SUBMISSION" WOW!!! What a fabulous read so full of intrigue, suspense, angst, erotic scenes, danger, secrets, lies, betrayal, duty, intense drama, twists that pull you right into this addicting page turner. Marialena Rossi is a strong, feisty woman who did something that's put a her in danger & destroyed Salvatore Capo's plans, now she has two choices he takes her life or she marries him, bears his children, submits to him, no matter what she'll learn two things vows are unbreakable. Salvatore Capo shows up at Rossi Family to demand Marielena as his bride to correct the situation she caused Romeo Rossi her brother knows he's a dangerous man & shocked by what she did. I definitely recommend to get this riviting, interesting, intense story the chemistry between Salvatore & Marielena is sizzling hot she's a spitfire I loved their story couldn't get enough these two characters are Phenominal together, love all the Rossi's as well you so won't be disappoint such a great story loved loved it!!!!!
Marialena is the youngest daughter of the Rossi family and she knows exactly what living in that kind of family entails. She pushes boundaries for sure, but she was raised to know what is expected of a mob wife. What she doesn't expect is to become one practically overnight. Salvatore has the perfect mob princess fall into his lap. He needs a wife, but doesn't believe in love. Unfortunately Marialena is going from a warm loving family to a proverbial nest of vipers. I love how Salvatore is unwilling to trust, but somehow Marialena worms her way into his heart. He might be a ruthless mobster, but for her he's willing to smile. Their romantic scenes are soooooo hawt. Absolutely great HEA. My only regret, since she's the last sibling I think this may be the end of this particular series. Maybe we can get the cousins stories though??
I received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily leaving this honest, unbiased review.
This was one heck of a story, my gosh and to say it was fill of action and drama is an understatement. And the characters themselves, wow! We all know thoughout the other books that Marialena likes to evade her bodyguards and do what she wants to do, however this time her actions have got her into more trouble than she anticipated. And how does she handle this, well i had to give it to her, Marialena handled it the way she handles all things, the Rossi way. She really has to be one of my favourite female characters out of all the Rossi women. She was one very smart and lovely lady. As for Salvator, he is one very bad ass man, but despite his outward apparence he really is a good guy, he has just for so long been let down and used by family for money. He is smart and despite marrying Marialena because he needed a wife she grew on him.
This is one story you really dont want to miss, honestly i know you will love it as myself and others have done
I loved this drama!! The Rossi’s have a new family member. Marialena is finally getting her story told. What a true Mafia story it is. She always has a heart of Gold but yet being born a Mafia Princess, that heart and Spine can become Steel if need be. I always enjoy Jane Henry’s books because at the very core of them, it’s about family. Salvatore Capo comes to the castle and demands Marialena’s hand in marriage. He is the new Don in the Capo family from Tampa. This is definitely an adventure with danger, excitement, twists at every corner and the steamy scenes are red hot. Love is always in abundance when it comes to the Rossi family, except maybe if you get between them for a Tosca and Nona’s food. Then it can be a free for all. This book sees Marialena become her own person. What a wonderful story.
OMG!!! Lena and Salvatore stole my heart!! Jane Henry, you have captured this series so beautifully and left the best for last. Everyone warned Lena that she should be more careful. But does she listen to her brothers? When she thinks she's helping a girl hide, she has no idea who she's messing with. Salvatore Capo!! Even Romeo cannot help her this time. Forced to marry Salvatore, she does what's she's been trained to do her whole life. Be the perfect princess with attitude. I loved how she doesn't cower in fear but stands strong. Once a Rossi, always a Rossi. She sees through the ruthless man everyone knows him to be. Betrayal and loyalty becomes apparent and these two families stand together as one to right a wrong. Lena and Salvatore are definitely a match made in heaven like the rest of the Rossi's...
I am sorry I can't give more than 5 stars because it deserves a lot more! Marialena Rossi's story is by far the best one of this serie. Dramatic, suspensful, sexy, attention grabing that you can not put down!!! Marialena is always getting into trouble by ditching her bodyguards , one day she is in her favorite store where she meets a dangerous, gorgeous man Salvatore Capo. After hiding a woman from him, she is later obliged to marry the man. What started out as obligated marriage will soon turn into so much more. No spoilers, can this Don let himself fall for the feisty mafia princess? Can this mafia princess meet his demands? You have to read this amazing story to find out. I volunteered to review this story.
