An opportunity to read a Michaelbrent Collings collection came my way and I jumped at it! Mr. Collings never disappoints, and this volume is no exception.
I have a fondness for short stories that started in my early teens and remains to this day. I have read hundreds of collections over the years and this one stands out as one of the best. Not all of the stories worked for me, which is not unusual, but the ones that did worked very, very well.
My favorites were:
THE FLOOR IS LAVA This tale was...insane! I thought it would go a certain way, but it went off the rails early on. I live for these types of stories-what type is that you may ask? It's the FUN,
PUNCH-YOU-IN-THE-FACE type!
THE SHORTEST CON Here, we have witches, vampires, trolls and werewolves. I guess there is a Colling's book called THE LONGEST CON and this tale takes place in that world. Now, I have to read THE LONGEST CON too, because this was a blast of a story with a rich environment that I want to learn more about.
THAT'LL SELL What happens if you're an author and one of your characters comes alive?
I CAN DO THIS ALL NIGHT. I only have once sentence about this tale. It's a woman's world. HELL YES to this one!
BUTTON MAN This story was deep and hit home. How dangerous is the phrase "I was only following orders." ?
THE STRANGER is the the final tale and it's more of a novella than I short story. This is the kind of narrative that I'm used to from Mr. Collings-tightly woven, with deep insights into the minds of his characters. Suspense abounds in this one and my entire body was tensed up throughout.
Overall, the stories that worked for me were spectacular! I've read several of Michaelbrent Collings' books at this point, but this was the first story collection. It seems the man has conquered the art of writing tales that feel real, feature characters you can root for, and that create worlds that are interesting and unique. If these are the things you look for when choosing your next read, then choosing this one will surely float your boat!

This is a science fiction anthology with a variety of stories set in the future. In some cases “future” could mean next Tuesday. The stories cover a variety of sub-genres, ranging from horror to humor. Many gave me Twilight Zone vibes. Most or all of the stories have an afterword or foreword, which were really interesting.
Jingle All the Way – a sci fi story designed for a single punch line.
I Am an Ocean, Lucid Dreams, End of Shift, Button Man: These are short stories that reminded me the most of The Twilight Zone. There’s an odd scenario with a twist at the end that conveys a message. More sci fi than horror.
The Floor Is Lava – Not-too-distant future that quickly turns into horror. Things do not go well here.
The Shortest Con – A followup to the novel The Longest Con involving a poker game. Very funny.
That’ll Sell – An author’s characters come to life. I did not expect that ending.
I Can Do This All Night – A what-if scenario that explores sexism.
The Stranger Inside – This takes up half the anthology and is the story that became Strangers. Much of it is the same, but the final novel has more details. The ending is different, and the villain’s personality and motivations are different. Maybe read Strangers first and then compare. This is your trapped-in-the-house-with-a-psycho story.
Language: One f—, a few uses of s—, and that’s about it.
Sexual Content: Some lewd comments and making out; PG-13
Violence: Occasional graphic violence, including torture

I am so lucky to be able to review books from this amazing author. Future Tense-Tales of Apocalyptic Vision is an exceptional book. A collect of short stories that looked in the future and a look into the end of the world, one hysterical (The Shortest Con) and some so heartbreaking (The Button Man).
And then there is The Stranger Inside that is so insidious and terrifying, it should have been a stand- alone novella.
I do appreciate the author’s notes after each story that gives the readers some personal thoughts and how the story came to be.
If you haven’t read a MichaelBrent Collings book before, this is a fantastic introduction to his amazing range in imagination and humor. His writing is both terrifying and smart. I wish I knew goes on in that mind of his.
Highly recommended and release date is 3/23/2022. Get a copy and believe me, you will enjoy every second of this speedy and engaging read.

The introduction had me cracking up. Michaelbrent Collings writes some fantastic horror stories and he has a rapier wit. I love his twisted sense of humor.
I love the twisted ‘Ground Hog Day’ type story.
Could make you question technology. Love the references to current times. May have you asking yourself, who am I? What if your characters came to life, coming to you for answers.
Khonra…oh man, I love that ending!
Who would do a better job of running the world, men or women?
The Button Man is thought provoking.
The novella, The Stranger Inside was what I was really excited about, though I love anything Michaelbrent Collings writes. I have read his Legion series, with the Stranger as the star, and I am excited to see how he came to be.
‘God’s chosen his vessel, anointed by blood and fear to purge men and women of their sins.’
The tools of the trade: some electronics and pharmaceuticals, some rope and a knife. He is very hands on. If that doesn’t tell you there is some evil coming someone’s way, I don’t know what will. It was…..grrrrreat for me. LOL
I love all the personal tidbits Michaelbrent Collings shard about himself. I love that he can make be laugh, gasp, shiver, and feel like tI want to puke, all in the same story. He lets his characters be real….making mistakes, paying for them, and they are able to redeem themselves…if he chooses to let them live. LOL

Michaelbrent does it again.
This is a fantastic collection of short sci-fi/horror stories. The tales are mainly set in potential futures, both the near future and distant future. The tales range from ones that will seriously terrify, ones that will make you think, and ones that will make you laugh like a lunatic. And right when you think it's safe to start laughing again, he will bolt you into a house with no way to escape until you give up your darkest secrets.
That isn't hyperbole, I haven't seen my family in weeks, and I'm running out of food.
It's tough to even advise what to expect from this book, as each story is radically different. There is almost certainly something here to appeal to any horror fan, any sci-fi fan, and even a bit for the fantasy fans. Instead, I'll just highlight my favorite story: The Shortest Con. The writing style for this specific story is that rare mix of altered-realism mixed with comedy, that reminds me of both Douglas Adams and Jason Pargin ("David Wong"). It's over the top and goofy, and is a great lead-in to read the full length novel "The Longest Con".
My only complaint (if you can even call it that) is that some of the stories were too short; I'd love to spend more time with Kristoff, to see more of the Button Man's world, and to understand more about how the floor became lava.
So in short, go buy a copy of this right away; Mr. Collings has promised to let me go as soon as he reaches his 10,000,000th sale!

Future Tense is a sci-fi/horror collection of nine short stories and one novella all set in the future, although not necessarily the distant future.
Not all of the stories were a big hit with me, but the ones that were, totally knocked it out of the park.
Among these were, The Floor Is Lava in which old friends reunite... one final time.
Lucid Dreams, about an agoraphobic woman who starts a new medication regimen and suddenly begins to live a full life even though she still can't leave home, and I Can Do This All Night about a man who often claims it's a woman's world but never meant it or believed it, until now.
In my opinion the author saved the best for last with a twisty psychological thriller novella The Stranger Inside which finds a perfect family in their perfect home as they are about to commemorate the anniversary of a tragic loss. What they don't know is that a stranger has been plotting to interrupt these plans in a most horrific way.
Recommended to anyone who enjoys the unexpected, the unusual, and the downright strange. This is a most entertaining collection.

This collection of short stories and one novella is a deeply disturbing tower of multiple horrors! And, I enjoyed every terrifying minute. It’s also hope giving. The novella, in particular, will probably haunt my mind for a long time. I highly recommend it.

Horror brings hope
MichaelBrent is an awesome author. Since I discovered him, I read all his output. As a person, he seems to be very intelligent, genuine, and open. He shares his background, history, and family life with the reader. He is exact in his answers and very open about his situation as an author. His entire vibe comes across in his stories and even when he gives us the most horrific output, there is always a twinge of hope there that we can defeat the monsters or we can redeem ourselves.
It is always hard to put out a book with short stories, especially when an author is prolific. If they are returning to short stories they wrote many years ago, typically those novels do not stay on theme. Although all the stories in this collection are extremely well written, I had a hard time getting into some of them. However, there are a couple that are absolute must-reads.
On a side note, MichaelBrent included the story ‘Stranger Inside’ which is essentially what became “Strangers”. “Strangers” is the novel that got me hooked on this author, so if you have not read it yet, I highly recommend that you skip the last story in this collection and pick up “Strangers” instead. I have read both versions and although it was nice to be reminded of the brilliance of the set-up, “Stranger Inside” is not the story of Legion.
Stories that are MUST READS:
1. I can do this all night (my personal favorite)
2. Button Man (awesome ‘moral of the story’)

Oh my! What a helluva ride! Clean,clear,crisp and scary ride!!
I do enjoy a short story by golly, but hate them too! You know how it starts out, grabs you tightly by the collar, draws you in deeply then BAM! WHAMMO! the last page, last word stares at you leaving you hanging on that last word begging, wishing for more to appear....but this one. This one here?! Well let me say this---
Michaelbrent has done wonderful storytelling that yes, you want more, but you look for another story too! If you'd ask me to choose, well you'd be waiting..I liked them all! And the Novella, well that was the frosting on the cake! I especially liked the "afterwords" at the end of each story, very deftly "storysplaining".
Michaelbrent keeps his readers interested,enthralled,and wanting more. If you've not read him yet, here's a good start for an introduction. So-go, go get that snack,a cold (or hot) drink and settle in. There are nine stories in this collection, featuring a mixture of sci-fi, horror, dark fantasy, dystopia and the surreal and giving the author a real chance to showcase his skills in various styles of dark short story form.
JINGLE ALL THE WAY – A sci-fi-type story about a company working on a perpetual suicide idea… and they have a great jingle for it!
I AM AN OCEAN – A post-apocalyptic dystopian horror sci-fi in which machines have taken over and offer humans the option of living as either an ‘ocean’ or an ‘island’ from the perspective of a potential ‘island-keeper’.
THE FLOOR IS LAVA – Pure horror. A ‘deal with the devil’ story, in which old friends reunite, take drugs, and revisit childhood games in a far too literal way.
LUCID DREAMS – An agoraphobic woman starts a new medication which truly allows her to start living her dreams.
THE SHORTEST CON – Totally my favourite story! This is very funny urban fantasy noir (which is also one of my favourite genres). It’s light-hearted and silly, but doesn’t veer anywhere near stupidity. It gave me a Douglas Adams mixed with the Dresden Files kind of vibe. And the authorial self-insert reminded me a little of Anthony Horowitz’s Hawthorne and Horowitz series. I will definitely be reading the full-length novel, The Longest Con, after this taster!
END OF SHIFT – A really clever, twist-in-the-tale story about what could happen if a well-known mythological figure changed to a darker, still-related purpose.
THAT’LL SELL – An author’s character comes to life in reality and presents a tricky moral dilemma.
BUTTON MAN – A futuristic dystopia story about life after someone gave the order to press the big, red, bomb button. Grotesque and haunting, the ending of this story hit particularly hard and stayed with me afterwards.
THE STRANGER INSIDE – A novella which became the novel Strangers, this is a serial-killer horror about the darkest secrets of a picture-perfect family – dark, visceral and gory and the dog DOES die (horribly). The ‘I Am Legion’ books are some of this author’s most popular and, while they are not my favourites of his work, they are top-class examples of this genre of horror-thriller for those who enjoy it.

JINGLE ALL THE WAY – A sci-fi-type story about a company working on a perpetual suicide idea… and they have a great jingle for it!
I AM AN OCEAN – A post-apocalyptic dystopian horror sci-fi in which machines have taken over and offer humans the option of living as either an ‘ocean’ or an ‘island’ from the perspective of a potential ‘island-keeper’.
THE FLOOR IS LAVA – Pure horror. A ‘deal with the devil’ story, in which old friends reunite, take drugs, and revisit childhood games in a far too literal way.
LUCID DREAMS – An agoraphobic woman starts a new medication which truly allows her to start living her dreams.
THE SHORTEST CON – Totally my favourite story! This is very funny urban fantasy noir (which is also one of my favourite genres). It’s light-hearted and silly, but doesn’t veer anywhere near stupidity. It gave me a Douglas Adams mixed with the Dresden Files kind of vibe. And the authorial self-insert reminded me a little of Anthony Horowitz’s Hawthorne and Horowitz series. I will definitely be reading the full-length novel, The Longest Con, after this taster!
END OF SHIFT – A really clever, twist-in-the-tale story about what could happen if a well-known mythological figure changed to a darker, still-related purpose.
THAT’LL SELL – An author’s character comes to life in reality and presents a tricky moral dilemma.
BUTTON MAN – A futuristic dystopia story about life after someone gave the order to press the big, red, bomb button. Grotesque and haunting, the ending of this story hit particularly hard and stayed with me afterwards.
THE STRANGER INSIDE – A novella which became the novel Strangers, this is a serial-killer horror about the darkest secrets of a picture-perfect family – dark, visceral and gory and the dog DOES die (horribly). The ‘I Am Legion’ books are some of this author’s most popular and, while they are not my favourites of his work, they are top-class examples of this genre of horror-thriller for those who enjoy it.

I confess I don’t read enough short stories. I either read classics or a few in magazines from the author’s I follow. So when the request for Future Tense came into my inbox, I knew I would love it because I’m a fan of Collings’s work.
I appreciate the author’s notes at the end of (and once at the beginning of) each story. It set up where Collings was in writing the stories and furthered the story itself. I will keep my thoughts vague on this collection because if you’ve read Collings, you know that his imagination can take the reader anywhere. So it’s good to go into reading expecting twists and horror, some humor, and sci-fi elements that are out there, in a believable way.
“I Am an Ocean” is creepy. I loved the direction it took because I completely wasn’t expecting that. “The Floor is Lava” was filled with nostalgia for me. We played Kick the Can in our youth, which resulted in a shattered wrist for me. But I still think of those days so fondly. The story took a fantastic turn. “The Shortest Con” was amusing, and I laughed out loud a lot. “End of Shift” was a total surprise for me.
Ultimately, all the stories went in ways I couldn’t have imagined. They’re creative, multi-dimensional, and take you into a new world in compact form. I think readers are in for a treat with Future Tense; it’s an enjoyable read the whole way through.

I don't normally like short stories because as soon as I get invested into the characters, the story ends.
But OMG!!!! Collings has a writing style that immediately grabs your attention, throws you into the midst of chaos, and satisfies every desire of the reader.
This newest installment takes you through some bizarre situations and gives the reader pause to contemplate some fairly heavy questions. Stories that make you wonder "what if" and "could that really happen" give this collection its own legs to stand on.
I will read any short story this author writes. I have my favorites (The Floor is Lava *chef kiss*), and I definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Another rip roaring ride with Michaelbrent Collings! His style and pace are always spot on, even when he is writing short stories, as opposed to full length novels. His stories and the characters he creates always draw me in and keep me turning the pages. Some of the short stories here will scare the Hell out of you, and some will make you think, but each and every one will entertain.
It was also great to revisit the beginning of the Legion story line.

As a Collings Cultist I was given an ARC of this book, and here is my completely honest review.
I loved these stories. There’s a great variety that includes both creepy and humorous horror. The novella at the end I was lucky to have read before, as it’s quite disturbing and is also the first story with the Legion character who appears in a book series. It was just as disturbing the second time, and gives a look into the not-so-perfect family that appears so on the surface.
I think my favorite was The Floor is Lava, an adult version of a childhood game. The fun certainly turns gruesome! I Can Do This All Night was probably the one that disturbed me the most.
These were the first short stories I’ve read by Michaelbrent Collings and I definitely hope for more! I’m working my way through all of his books and thought this was a great addition. Definitely recommend it to my horror loving friends!

Great collection of short stories. They're short stories, so it's hard to review them without giving spoilers, but here are the various themes I picked out:
Jingle All the Way: suicide
I Am An Ocean: free will and caring for others
Floor is Lava: youth and growing old. These characters were my favorite with lots of humor. I'd like to see this one fleshed out as a full-length novel.
Lucid Dreams: isolation and the risks that people take for mental cures.
The Shortest Con: I couldn't pin a theme on this one, but I read "The Longest Con" just to better appreciate this hilarious short story that hints at an upcoming sequel!
End of Shift: "gifts" for the innocent. At first, I imagined this as a twisted version of Legion in retirement. Old man punishes wicked people in ways that they intended to hurt others. Then, there was the twist, and I REALLY wanted a fully explored story of Kristoff's work.
That'll Sell: Stranger Than Fiction meets Game of Thrones.
I Can Do This All Night: sexism.
The Button Man: bombs and who's to blame. This one takes a while to get into, but hold on because the end is worth it. Like, "The Lottery" level of twisted that makes you think long after the story's over.
The Stranger Inside: secrets turn family members into strangers. 1 F-bomb. It's still a great story, but I consider "Strangers" to be an upgrade (which makes sense, since it's a later revision).

Not typically a fan of short story compilations, but I'm glad I read this one.
A little bit of the bizarre, a lot of the dark, gritty, nasty things that might make you cringe, and a bit of flair that is all Michaelbrent Collings. There's personality behind these stories. There's humor, compassion, anguish, and definitely clever storytelling.
I had never heard of Collings until a few years ago, seems like forever, I somehow stumbled upon the story "Strangers" which took me down the rabbit hole that is Legion. Imagine my surprise when one of the pieces in "Future Tense" was actually Legion's story! It was like revisiting it for the first time. Joy! It's quite a story.
But that came after a whole set of different short stories that were all quite unexpected. Out of the lot, I had 2 favorites: The Floor is Lava, and Lucid Dreams. The afterward to Lucid Dreams wrapped that story up nicely, mental health and anguish in hard times, just made sense to me. I struggle constantly with mental health and read to free myself from, well... myself.
All in all, impressive collection of short stories, that I've told a few friends about already-friends that appreciate the speed of a short story, where you don't get attached to the characters and it's over before you can blink, friends that like the bizarre and a little bit of the nasty, friends that are excited for release day.

I avoid shorts, and even novellas. However, I expect I would find Michaelbrent Collings' grocery list mesmerizing. ('Everybody knows' that his to-do list would be a mind-twister!)
So I decided to read "Future Tense"–then discovered that it includes a sort of prequel to the "Strangers" series, a series that has captivated me from it's first few pages.
Here's my take on each of the parts (I say 'parts' because I think "Con" may not be fiction–more of a recollection, but you can decide):

I will begin by saying, I am not usually a fan of short stories. Most of the time I am just starting to get into the story when it suddenly ends, and I am left wanting more. It takes me longer to get through a collection of short stories than most novels. There are a few short story collections that have made it into my “I would read again” list. Stephen King’s “Different Seasons,” mostly because those are longer than most novels and totally satisfy my need for a long story, Robert McCammon’s “Blue World” because those are some of the best short stories I have ever read, and this one. Michaelbrent Collins is both able to masterfully draw me in with most of these stories and satisfy me with a good ending, making me feel totally fulfilled and not leaving me with that “cheated” feeling I get with most short stories. I also love the afterward notes for each story. These give a glimpse into the author’s brain, which I love getting. In this collection you will get 9 terrific short stories and one longer story that will introduce you to a character that will leave you wanting more. Luckily, that character shows up in several novels written by the same author so there is also no “cheated” feeling there! If you have never read anything by Michaelbrent or if you are a longtime fan, you will love this collection.

Like so many, I don't often enjoy books with short stories. When I am reading - it is so nice to escape for a longer period of time. This book came along when I really didn't have good "escape" time so it was a perfect read to be able to put down and pick up without losing my place. MbC does a great job of giving information about each story. I really enjoy seeing how an author's mind operates. I LOVED re-reading the Stranger story. Those are favorites of mine and I'm really hoping that if enough people read this book and love that story - perhaps MbC will write us more with Legion!! Other favorites were Button Man and the Floor is Lava. There was something about the Floor is Lava that made me go back to being younger when you thought this was a real thing. Well I can tell you, even now - I was glad my feet were on the couch when I was reading that one because I'm not sure, yet again, that it isn't possible!!! There was one story that just couldn't hold my interest and I'm not a big fan of sci-fi - so it was nice to be able to read some of his Sci-Fi without it being a whole novel. Long story short - if you are new to MbC or just looking for a little variety in a book - this is a good one to pick up and read.

When people think of the apocalypse, most would think of war, destruction, and of Death riding a pale horse. But simply put, the apocalypse is something viewed as a prophetic revelation. Michaelbrent Collings tackles the subject with ten short stories in Future Tense: Tales of Apocalyptic Vision, which is filled with tales of “the end of it all.”
Known as a prolific horror writer, Collings is exceptional in the short story genre. Just as in his novels, Collings leads his reader up to the top of the cliff and then shoves them off. He quickly sets the plot and sends the reader on an anticipated trajectory, only to change course. His stories do not end as the reader predicts or hopes. They are delivered with as much shock and awe as only Collings can.
With some stories dealing with mental health or talk of suicide, Collings’ work can be triggering. As the author professes, they are a way for him to exorcise his own demons. Future Tense: Tales of Apocalyptic Vision is a great collection of short stories with terrifying scenarios, but it also shows the reader how to fight back.

An interesting collection of short stories with very mixed subject matter.
There really was something for every taste in this book, I enjoyed pretty much all of the stories but there was a couple I couldn't get into not because they were bad stories just simply because I just couldn't engage with them and they didn't work for me personally but don't let this put you off as you may read it and find the same stories I didn't engage with your favourites and not like the ones I liked or you may love them all but you won't know until you read them!
I personally enjoyed the change of format as the books from this author are not normally short stories so it was a nice change to see this author write in this format. The shorts defiantly hit hard and fast paced and a couple of them really got me thinking and it's always good when a book/story has the ability to make you think/feel and this author certainly knows how to do that!
But don't take my word for it, pick up the book and make your own mind up!

This collection spans a wide range of horror stories. There are some that will be compared to Twilight Zone or Black Mirror with their twists on future technology and magical realism. Others are more reminiscent of a hauntingly good nosleep that sneaks up on the reader unaware, drawing them ever deeper into a growing all too believable horror. Some even incorporate humor, and not even all the dark, twisted, macabre sort you might be expecting.
One thing that these stories seemed to have in common though, was that the main characters were successful - be it wealth, power, fame, family, or even just another shot at love. But in every case the success was not what it seemed. Always there was a cost. Sometimes justly deserved, other times that truism that no good deed goes unpunished. But don't think it was just about the horror and unraveling - just as in Pandora's box, through each story wove a thread of hope. A glimmer of brightness and possible redemption in the ashes.

Hope-filled Horror Anthology
I love the playful titles of the short stories in this anthology: Jingle All the Way, I am an Ocean, The Floor is Lava - what an unexpected light-heartedness for horror stories, especially as the titles imply one thing but are often not exactly what you'd expect from that title. (Although my brain wanting the Button Man to be related to Stephen King's Gwendy and the Button Box, probably makes sense that it didn't go that direction!) It also makes me wonder a bit if the book's title is also meant playfully since the stories have a futuristic scope but Future Tense is also a writing term/style....
Beyond enjoying the titles, I also enjoyed the stories themselves. Especially the unexpected direction for some of the stories just made me want to keep reading more. I also really appreciated the author's not after each story. I love anthologies that share some insights into why an author write a story or what inspired it.
If you're looking for a new spooky anthology, I'd recommend trying this one!

Michaelbrent Collings is one of my favourite authors. When he writes horror, it is utterly terrifying. But he also writes quirky, absurdist fare. Sometimes, the two collide in interesting ways. This collection features this last quality. (For the record, some of his work is much more wholesome and whimsical, and I'm also a fan of those works!)
Most of these tales feature interesting twists, so I won't risk spoilers here.
One of the highlights is the inclusion of "The Stranger Inside," which is the story that introduces Legion, who features in several of Collings's novels. Legion is the Collings character that I find most fascinating (although, also, the one I'd least like to encounter!) I found this story pulled back the curtain a bit, allowing me to see where Legion started versus where we last left him.
Bottom line: these are stories for a good scare and a good think!

Awesome collection of eclectic short stories that keep the reader engaged and well entertained! MichaelBrent has an imagination that seeks to delight his readers and he’s mastered the art of turning his imagination into delightful, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes frightful, but always engaging tales that keep the reader wanting more. This collection of stories brings you many hours of pleasure as you think you know what is happening and what will occur and that you have the whole story figured out. Then you reach the end of the story only to find you were so far off base and the what the story is is so much better than what you guessed at! MichaelBrent uses his multi-faceted talents to create stories and tales that delight and stimulate the mind with hours upon hours of amazing reading! Keep the books and stories coming! I look forward to MichaelBrent Collings next book or collection and recommend his books to all!

This is a collection of great stories that run the gamut from horror to science fiction that just makes you think. I'm not sure the "Future Tense" part of the title really matches (other than a clever play with the word "tense" that does tend to fit), but the author explains how the word "Apocalyptic" has many different meanings, and that kind of fits.
All but one of the stories has been written over the last couple years for his Patreon subscribers. (It's well worth being a subscriber if you like his writing - you get a short story and a book each month.) The one exception, which is by far the longest, was published about 12 years ago for Kindle and is apparently now out of print. (At least it shows up here on Goodreads with that date and format, but the Amazon page is gone.)
As I began with, this is a collection of great stories. But I especially enjoyed the insights from the author that appear throughout the book where he talks about the stories, why they were written, and even which one is his wife's favorite.
All but one of the stories has been written over the last couple years for his Patreon subscribers. (It's well worth being a subscriber if you like his writing - you get a short story and a book each month.) The one exception, which is by far the longest, was published about 12 years ago for Kindle and is apparently now out of print. (At least it shows up here on Goodreads with that date and format, but the Amazon page is gone.)

Future Tense
This was an amazing, fast paced read. Michaelbrent Collings’ newest book, satisfied my craving for GOOD horror/sci-fi. Character development was perfectly evolved along side tense and mind bending story telling. Collings ability to segue one scene into the next, was both unique and easy to follow. This method kept the tension high, while giving the reader insight into the lives of the main character(s). I was left with no choice but to keep reading. I was blown away how fluid and easy this story was to enjoy.
I will not discuss the narrative, though I will say that it was well thought out. Michaelbrent Collings obviously knows (or researched) the scientific complexities involved with Future Tense.
As a horror and sci-fi enthusiast, this is a must read. I’ve got a new favourite author.

Oh me, Oh my AND Oh me, Oh my again, as if Michael's writings alone were not enough to drive you off a short dive off a long cliff, he has asked the rest of the world of horrific writing to join with him. The primary premise is that this has to be a look at the future. Now future may be tomorrow, next week, next month, next 10 thousand years, but the authors could only look at what we will have made of ourselves realizing that we will definitely all be crazy and the rich will have drove over the poor and the healthy will have made the invalid their slaves, Now I don't want to spoil any story but if you are into a really good horror story sit down with this book, all your bases will be covered! This is my true and honest review. These are my honest opinions after all who would want them?!

First off, I’m not a fan of short story compilations. There has been only one exception and that was done by Stephen King.
HOWEVER... Future Tense: Tales of Future Apocalyptic Vision by Michaelbrent Collings sits beside Stephen King in my exception list.
These stories are colorful and wonderfully written, and each gives a unique addition to the compilation, sometimes a thriller, sometimes not so much (but yes, really), but each exceptional. The author also gives his thoughts on how the story came to be, which is one of my favorite things to read from an author. Like... how does that wild mind of yours work?!
Michaelbrent Collings is one of those authors who gets it. He can make a horror story into a beautiful thing or a hilarious situation and then ... you’re dead. Or hiding in your closet. Or something.
